Jan. 2010 People’s Tournament results

February 7, 2010

(Note: The following is a recap of an event in which the author of this blog participated.)

The People’s Tournament reported Ed Miller (Westgate Lanes, 170 avg.) as the winner of the event held on Jan. 30 and 31 at Westgate Lanes. Miller defeated Lucindo Rosa (AMF Cranston Lanes, 208 avg.) by a score of 195-175 (with handicaps). For the “locals,” Cindy Cabral (155 avg.) was also in the semifinals, while Brian Alleyne (160 avg.), Bill Major (214 avg.), and Greg Hudson (200 avg.) were also in the final eight.

Grant Henderson III rolls to 300 in TNBA League

February 7, 2010

Congrats to Grant Henderson III, who had the first 300 game of the season in the TNBA League the other night. :D

2010 Brockton Bowling Association city tournament, Day 2

February 7, 2010

I had to miss doubles and singles this morning due to the buses not running until close to noon, but I did make it over for the team event. A quick query of Bob Young yielded the fact that Jim Burt had a fourth 300 in this tournament today in the singles event. I watched all of the team event, which started with Bill Major coming only a stone 7 shy of a fifth 300 in the first game. When all was said and done, “Dazed and Confused” (Sean Richard, Rob Young, Jason Sherwood, and Pat Carrara) ended the tournament in first place in both the scratch and handicap team event. Congrats to these four.

Rob Young told me the unofficial standings would be online Tuesday, so I shall post a link to them then.

2010 Brockton Bowling Association city tournament recap, Day 1

February 6, 2010

I couldn’t make it down to the lanes today because of family matters, but Sean Richard gave me a recap of Day 1 of this year’s city tournament via Facebook. The tournament is being contested on the new USBC Blue oil pattern, making Westgate Lanes (I believe) the first center to use one of the color patterns in a regularly-scheduled event. Highlights of the day included 300 games by Tony Bennett and Tina Gannon in doubles, and Nate Abdow added one in singles en route to a 268-300-268=836 series. Congrats to all three on their performances.

Feb. 5 league standings update

February 5, 2010

I’ve already noted that my team only took one point this week, but “Double D” won all of their points, so we slipped into last place in the second half, a point and a half behind “Foxy SRS.” “The Generations” currently hold a two-point lead on “The Dynasty,” “The Mustangs,” and “Warren’s Girls” at the top of the standings. Next week won’t be easy for my team, as we’re scheduled against “Butz-N-Gutz.”

Cross-training #127

February 4, 2010

The Chicago Bears noted that fullback Jason McKie will host a “Celebowl” fundraiser on May 18 at the Vernon Hills Brunswick Zone. Proceeds will benefit McKie’s charitable foundation, which provides scholarships for children and spouses of military personnel killed or injured in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Feb. 3 league night recap

February 3, 2010

My Week 22 bowling, frame-by-frame (Link to series on BowlSK)

I took a warm-up game on the “Main Street” pattern with the newly-dulled-down Hy-Road, and, liking what I saw from my warm-up game, I decided to go with the ball tonight, and that and finally getting somewhat adjusted to the pattern got me more or less back on track, although my first two games didn’t necessarily show it. It was the last game where it finally came together, a one-open 225. If I have more games like that one on this pattern, I should be back to being dangerous.

Result: 171-181-225=577
Average (66 games): 188
Average for last 9 games: 182
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 573

Team was still only able to take a single point. I could’ve earned a split of the points in the third game with the first two in the 10th, but that was derailed by a first-ball “shaker” 7 pin. Of my teammates, Eileen and Carl gave me the most support tonight, as both had all three games over their respective averages.

Virtual league results, Week 4

February 3, 2010

“Size 11′s” got back on track last week, losing only the third game to “Drunken Masters,” a team that includes a couple of chat buddies (“MikeHL” and “lmfcoa”), for another 5/7 week. As a result, we now sit in a three-way tie in points for third place with “Fantastic Four” and the aforementioned “Drunken Masters.” “4 Marksmen” now hold a one-point lead on “Pretty Much Average” at the top of the virtual league standings. Individually, “Joe P.” of “Hambones” had a 300 game in the league he submits from…I’ve congratulated him on the forums.

If you’re wondering why I don’t announce the week’s opposition in the virtual league, it’s because I don’t really know, with the league wishing to keep the schedule unannounced so that bowlers in the league are free to post their scores publicly in the forums without giving their opposition an idea of what they need to win.

Feb. 3 league standings update

February 3, 2010

This update is a week late, but I’ve had to deal with another Internet connection outage since I last bowled and just plain forgot to look for the standings when my service was restored.

Both my team and “Double D” took a point each, so we remain a point ahead of them out of the league’s cellar. “The Dynasty” and “The Generations” are currently tied at the top, with “Butz-N-Gutz” sitting 2 points behind the pace in third. The opposition tonight will be “The Mustangs,” a team my team has done well against this season.
