Jon Van Hees finishes 8th in 2012 USBC Masters

After surviving a match with Steven McCracken 595-541, Jon Van Hees was eliminated by Bryon Smith 703-602 (match play brackets were linked in a previous post) and, according to the tournament standings on PBA.com, finished in 8th place. Congrats to Jon on an impressive run in this major tournament.

I’ll comment with the winner after the televised finals on ESPN.

Jon Van Hees defeated Tom Baker 676-664 in his first match this morning, but then lost to Chris Warren 720-631 to move into the losers bracket. Jon awaits the winner of the match between Jack Jurek and Steven McCracken at press time.

2012 USBC Masters update #1

According to the most recent published match play bracket, Jon Van Hees is through to Friday’s third winners bracket round in double-elimination match play after defeating Bryan Kretzer 669-660 (three-game, total pinfall matches) and Tom Daugherty 641-434. Alex Aguiar was eliminated in the first losers bracket round after losses to Nathan Bohr (672-657) and Robert Gotchall (670-628).

The PBA reported that New England bowlers Alex Aguiar (Dartmouth, MA, 11th) and Jon Van Hees (Charlestown, RI, T20th) have both qualified in the top 20 at the USBC Masters, taking place at the Sunset Station Strike Zone in Las Vegas. Match play gets underway later today, and I will continue to track their progress.

I’m thinking now that if I can just get everything together, I could make a run, but I’m still too inconsistent. The game I bowled well (except for the missed 7) was the third game. It’s fortunate I’m due back in tomorrow for another lesson.

If Berta didn’t have an under-average second game, she may have been able to make another run at 500 tonight. Team only won one point, mostly thanks to Jim, our league president, throwing a 729 at us, which is as well as I’ve ever seen him bowl.

Winter 2012 Week 2 virtual league results

“Diamond Flush” had a one-point net loss to “Got Wood?” in Week 2, and the match could’ve easily been tilted one way or another…my team only won total by 20, and handicap was a factor in the first two games, with my team losing the first game by only two pins. We remain in last place, with “2-bit Bandits” the top team after Week 2, two points ahead of Team 10 and “Ordinary Average Guys.”

Kris Voss posts 716 set in Westgate Ladies

Congrats to Kris Voss, who happens to be a 1984 classmate of mine at Brockton High School, on having games of 247, 225, and 244 (I don’t know if these are actually in the order bowled.) for a 716 set last Tuesday night in the Westgate Ladies league.

Splitting the points against “Outta Da Guttah” didn’t turn out to be that harmful for my team, “Pinfall Wizards,” because there is now a three-way tie in points at the top between us, “Deadwood,” and “The Mustangs,” with “Deadwood” having the pinfall advantage over my team and the latter team with less pinfall than us.

“Dee’s Boys II” provides the opposition for my team this week.

If my readers have noticed that there’s been nothing new in the USBC’s RSS feed in my sidebar since the World Women’s Championships in September, it’s because the USBC has developed a problem with the feed. I have alerted them to the problem, but these things may take time to be rectified. Please bear with me…I have little control over it.

I usually don’t get off to good starts, and I was clean through 12 frames tonight, but with the spare misses after that point, I definitely left some pins on the deck.

It was a good night for Brian, who was over 400 for the first time in my memory, but the team only managed to split the points after our opponents ran away with the second game.

Alex Aguiar wins NEBA Cambridge Credit Counseling Invitational in Norwich, CT

Congrats to Alex Aguiar on yet another NEBA title, this time the Cambridge Credit Counseling Invitational last weekend at the Norwich Bowling & Entertainment Center in Norwich, CT. The title is Alex’s 11th.

Spelling of bowler’s name corrected in posts

I have been alerted via a recent NEBA result that I may have been in error on a bowler’s last name, with the bowler with a recent 300 game in the Tuesday Scratch Sportsmen league having the actual last name of Corneau (the R and N sort of blend together for Comeau on the LeagueSecretary.com standings sheet). The error has been corrected both in the initial post about the 300 game and in the mid-season round-up post.
