As reported on The People’s Tournament’s site, Carlos “Charlie” Aponte (AMF Silver Lanes [CT], 166 avg.) was the winner of the special year-end event at Westgate Lanes. Aponte defeated Mike Klosin (Strikers East [NH], 210 avg.) in the title match by a score of 257-216 (with handicaps). Charlie Aponte collected a check for $5,000 for winning this special event. For the locals, Shirley Major and Brian “Hawk” Earle were both in the top eight.
Additional note: The People’s Tournament will be running a New Year special event, again with prizes of $5,000 for first place and $2,500 for second place (with 32 guaranteed prizes), at Westgate Lanes on January 24 and 25. Entry fees will be $70 mail-in, $80 on-site, and $100 for new members. See the tournament’s web site for more information.
