Nov. 28 league night recap

My Week 13 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK)

The lanes favored my weak equipment for the first time in a while, but I realized probably late that I needed to keep my speed up, which led to an inconsistent release.

Result: 165-200-162=527
Average (39 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 183
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 541

There was not much the team could have done tonight, with Shawn putting up a 750 on us, which included a 278 second game (front 9). Carl actually had the high game for my team, stringing five in a row for his first time in the third game for a 201.

Nov. 25 league standings update

After winning the lion’s share from “There’s 3 and 2,” “Spare Parts” moved into 2nd place, two points behind “Dee’s Boys III” but a point ahead of “Split Happens.” “Sweet Rolls” (Shawn’s team) await us this week, with a date with the first place “Dee’s Boys III” next week becoming important if we can hold position.

Nov. 21 league night recap

My Week 12 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I seem to be stuck in a “one good week, one bad week, one good week…” rut, and tonight was the bad night’s turn, though I did manage to find my good release and reaction in the third game to get over average.

Result: 130-160-186=476
Average (36 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 178
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 543

The night didn’t start well for the team, as we lost the first game by 66 pins, but we never gave up on the night, winning a close second game and the third game by better than 200 pins. Carl and Brian (the latter in the pre-bowl) were both in the 170s in that third game.

Going to post about something else that happened in the league tonight shortly. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! 😀

Fall 2012 Week 10 virtual league results

There was no change either in “Fantastic 4’s” position in the standings or the number of points behind the lead despite winning five of seven from “Pocket Rockets.” “Front 9” and “Cold Turkey” are now the teams tied for the lead, with Teams 2 and 10 three points behind.

Individually, my 73-over game and 132-over series were both the high over-average performances of the week. 😀

Nov. 18 league standings update

After winning all four from “The 5 G’s,” “Spare Parts” are now in 3rd place, just two points behind “Split Happens” and only a point behind “Dee’s Boys III.” “There’s 3 and 2” will provide the opposition in the coming week.

I’ll comment to this post when I know if either me or any of my teammates won a “Turkey Shoot” prize.

The reunion

Not really a NEBA note, though this note is about something that happened at the tournament. When I thought I reconnected with George Hamilton Jr. early in my return to bowling, I would later learn the man I was talking to was actually Ralph Dahlgren. Happily, though, I did reconnect with the real George Hamilton Sunday at the tournament, and I was very happy to fill him in on everything that has happened since I came back. Like his brother, Bob, George was cracking me up during the day, so I was quite pleased to get reacquainted. Just need to get George’s phone number and/or electronic addresses now. 😀

Nov. 2012 NEBA honor score note

Meant to mention this earlier, but Jon Van Hees, just back in New England from the World Series of Bowling in Las Vegas, posted an 11 in a row 290 game in the fifth game to get into the 9:00 AM Sunday squad cut.

Also wanted to mention that the tournament was contested on the Kegel Boardwalk pattern, a pattern Alex Aguiar historically has excelled on at Westgate Lanes.

Nov. 14 league night recap

Now for the post that gets me caught up…last night! 😀

My Week 11 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

A much bigger number was out there, but I let the second game get away from me, and if I approached my other two games, the 700 would have been had. The clean third game felt great, too…haven’t really had a game like that in a while. 😀

Result: 245-167-236=648
Average (33 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 190
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 530

I could take pride that the game and series were high on the pair even with one of the best bowlers in the league crossing lanes with me. As for the team, we took all four, with the team scoring 1,100 in the third game with handicap.

Last night was also the annual “Turkey Shoot” in the league, with a cash prize going to the bowler in each of the six average divisions (three for the men, three for the women) with the most pins over average on the night. I was 135 over, which at least put me in contention for the men’s “B” prize. 😀

Nov. 7 league night recap

Almost caught up with the backlog…this will be last week’s bowling…

My Week 10 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I just took a step back last week, with lack of good execution all around. It would figure, though, that I threw my best shot to end the night.

Result: 171-141-170=482
Average (30 games): 171
Average for last 9 games: 175
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 518

My team had a great night, however, starting out with three consecutive “star frames” (everyone with a mark in the frame) and ending with five of those on the night en route to a sweep.

Oct. 31 league night recap

Third post of backlog…

My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Not quite the success of two weeks before, but still three games over average. The first game really showed me the potential of my Nano on this shot, though I threw two really poor shots in the 10th, the first to lose count on my double, and the second to lose count filling the spare.

Result: 224-188-176=588
Average (27 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 192
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 544

This was the only losing team night of the backlog stretch, winning only the third game, in which Berta pre-bowled a 191.

Oct. 24 league night recap

Second post of backlog…

My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Not many strikes, and my spare game really let me down on this night, but I did see that my Nano became playable, which would pay future dividends.

Result: 168-180-157=505
Average (24 games): 170
Average for last 9 games: 182
Next week’s AVG+1: 529

Taking just a pin off the last-frame double wood leave proved costly, as we lost the third game forfeit point by a pin.

Oct. 17 league night recap

Going through a fit of insomnia after my most recent league night, I’m starting posting of the backlog sooner than I perhaps might want…

My Week 7 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

This was perhaps the first sign that I turned the corner with my game, with three of my most consistent games in some time. As I said in the BowlSK note in the third game, I probably should have changed balls sooner on the right lane, but recognizing that I had to may have saved my six.

Result: 227-197-211=635
Average (21 games): 170
Average for last 9 games: 174
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 521

Carl (first game) and Berta (third game) both had a game in the 180s to support me in a sweep of the points.

League recap backlog to be made up tomorrow

The standing issue of having my “old” BowlSK information transferred to my “new” Google Account (actually, the one I’ve always had that I changed the email address on) has been successfully resolved, and, as a result, I am announcing that the entire backlog of league recaps (including tonight’s) will be made up tomorrow. Each night will have a separate recap and will have the same presentation, including my averages and +1 scores after each night’s bowling.

Alex Aguiar wins 4th NEBA title of year, 14th all-time, at Westgate Lanes

As I figured out that the video of the title match could take some time in being posted, I decided to go ahead with the results and post the video later.

NEBA reported that Alex Aguiar won his 4th NEBA title of 2012 this past weekend at Westgate Lanes. The title is his 14th all-time, tying him for 2nd on the all-time list with Chris Rebstock, Barry Warshafsky, and Bill Webb (who cashed in this tournament). Alex defeated Bill Holota by a score of 212-192 in the title match. The posted prize list and match play results also show that Westgate Lanes league bowlers Stephen Dale, Jr., Jim Ferguson, Danny Khuu (who was high qualifier), and Brian Gaskill cashed in the tournament.

Fall 2012 Week 9 virtual league results

“Fantastic 4” took the lion’s share (five of seven) from “Front 9,” one of the teams close to the lead going into the week. “Fantastic 4” still managed to lose a position, falling to 5th, a point behind “Schnitzengiggles,” but the race for the lead got a lot closer, as my team is now just four points behind “Front 9” and Team 2 with three weeks left on the schedule.

Alex Aguiar throws pair of 300s in NEBA at Westgate Lanes

The highlight of tonight’s 6 PM NEBA tournament squad was a pair of 300 games, the second and last games of the five game qualifying block, thrown by Alex Aguiar. The video I got of the last strike of the first 300 game is below (The original video was shaky, but has been corrected by YouTube, for the most part.):

Boy, do I love having my new phone! 😀

Jon Van Hees taken by Chris Barnes in inaugural PBA League draft

This is one of those occasions when I expand the local scope of this blog to mention a New England bowler who has made an impact nationally. 😀

As reported by the PBA, Jon Van Hees of Charlestown, RI was chosen as the supplemental player by Chris Barnes in tonight’s inaugural PBA League draft. The PBA League is the introduction of a team concept to the regular PBA Tour schedule, and will take place during next year’s Winter Swing portion of the schedule. I did get to chat with Jon on Facebook, and he told me that Barnes told him it was between him and Nathan Bohr as the last regular player, but Bohr’s Wichita State collegiate experience won out; Barnes was happy when Van Hees was still available as the supplemental selection, however.

Here’s hoping Jon sees some action in the first PBA League season. 😀
