Hamilton posts 300/834, Alfieri 300 in Westgate Mixed

The high series to date at Westgate Lanes this season was thrown tonight by Bob Hamilton in the Westgate Mixed league, with games of 267, 267, and 300 for an 834. Also, earlier in the night, Ed Alfieri had a perfect game of his own. Congrats to both! 😀

EDIT: Thanks to Bob Hamilton’s daughter, Stephanie, we have a video of Ed Alfieri’s 300 below. You won’t see a better break for a 300 game than this. 😉

My Week 32 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Second games have generally been the bane of my bowling existence this season, and tonight was another case-in-point. If you’ll refer to my log (in the “Author’s links”), I am now averaging almost a full 10 pins under my first game average in the second game this season.

Result: 187-133-165=485
Average (96 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 169
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 566

Team generally got run over the first two games, but we salvaged the third game.

Krushas, Joyner bowl 300, Sherwood 299 in Apr. 27 NAT

Although I didn’t bowl in the tournament this time, I hung around the NAT for qualifying today, and there were three honor scores to report. The morning squad saw Jason Sherwood have a 7 pin rob him on the last shot for a 299 game, while Jay Krushas and Tarik Joyner both had a perfect game during the afternoon squad.

Congrats to everyone involved, and I’ll post a recap when the results are up on the NAT’s website. 🙂

Bourdon and DeMarsico throw state tournament record 1,578 doubles set

I already noted one record score today, but I was made aware tonight of another state tournament record, this time in doubles, by Chris Bourdon and Scott DeMarsico, bowling out of Mt. Greylock Bowl in N. Adams, with a 1,578 set. Bourdon shot 788 and DeMarsico 790 in the effort, which took place on the 3:30 squad. Scott, coincidentally, was co-holder of the old doubles record, a 1,574 with Gary Superneau in 2007 at Mt. Greylock Bowl.

Congrats! 😀

Apr. 26 league standings update

After winning three points from “SR Spares”, “Snakes On A Lane” stand tied with “Anger Management” and “3 Plus 2” for 11th place with two weeks left in the season. “Mustangs” are the new leaders, by a point over Team 16 and “Bowling Stones” and two points over “We Split 4 No 1”. My team finishes the regular schedule with “3’s Company”. For the leaders, “Mustangs” will bowl against “Bowling Stones”, Team 16 against “The Doables”, and “We Split 4 No 1” against “WTF Over”.

Apr. 26 notes

A couple of notes I’ve been meaning to pass along:

  • Westgate Lanes is once again participating in “Kids Bowl Free”, which allows children registered on the “Kids Bowl Free” website two free games a day throughout the summer, which can be a $500 value.
  • Something new this year…USA Pro Shop is offering a 25% discount on Brunswick bowling balls (which may also include DV8 and Radical) if you bowl in a summer league at Westgate Lanes this summer. See Ray in the shop for more details.

My Week 31 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I don’t use my Reign of Fire often because I sometimes think I have problems getting it to rev up, but, when I was lost in the second game, I thought to pull it out of my locker with nothing to lose, salvaged something out of the game, then proceeded to have one of my few clean games of the season, which I was proud of also because I converted a couple of splits, including a 3-6-7-10, to stay clean.

Result: 180-146-197=523
Average (93 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 526

Team won the first game big, lost half of the lead in the second game, then rallied around me to win the third game for three points.

Ferguson & Dahlgren win NAT doubles at Town Line

This is a backlogged item that can’t be properly sourced because the NAT has been transitioning to a new website, but I did report it on the Brockton Bowling Association’s Facebook page the day it happened…

Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Jim Ferguson teamed with Ralph Dahlgren to win the Northeast Amateur Tournament doubles event on Mar. 16 at Town Line Luxury Lanes in Malden. The pair defeated Paul Smith and Scott Fisher in a two-game final match by a score of 986-860 (with handicap).

The administrivia attached to this post is that I do now know the URL for the new website and will update the sidebar link to the NAT.

Apr. 20 league standings update

After failing to win points against “The Doables”, “Snakes On A Lane” are alone in 14th place, a point behind our week’s opponents, “SR Spares”. We are 10 points behind the leaders, “Bowling Stones”, who lead “Mustangs” by two points and “Spear Me” by 2.5 points. The leaders’ lane assignments have “Bowling Stones” against “Sweet Rolls”, “Mustangs” against “3 Plus 2”, and “Spear Me” against “The Dynasty Is Back”.

I neglected to mention in last week’s recap that Brian had a 497 scratch set, and that should be a high (scratch or handicap) for men’s “C” last week.

Sandi Litchfield throws perfecto

Not many women at Westgate Lanes have bowled a 300 game in our history (Five previously: Sue Sutter {unsanctioned}, Kris Voss, Tina Gannon {see note in comments}, Jessica Lowe, and Melissa Peterson), but Sandi Litchfield joined that club tonight with her first perfect game in the second game of the Westgate Mixed league. She actually had a shot at the women’s state record after a 277 first game and needed to double in the 10th third game to have a chance at an 800 set, but she finished with a 218 for a 795.

Way to go again, Sandi! 😀

Steve Sousa’s video of Sandi’s last strike is below:

My Week 30 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Left side spares were my weakness tonight, particularly where my single 7 was involved, as I missed all three of those, and pulled a 2 pin, as well. The positive I’ll take from this is that I did find a comfortable line in the third game with my Marvel Pearl for my 215; I just wished my other two games were like my third.

Result: 146-154-215=515
Average (90 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 163
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 617

The opponents’ pre-bowls were pretty good, particularly from their anchor, and the bowler present for them had two good games, as well. My team lost all four as a result.

There was a $1 refund on brackets, but that was all I got back from last week.

Apr. 16 league standings update

Winning three of four from “Anger Management” found “Snakes On A Lane” tied with them and “The Doables” for 10th place, 10 points behind the pace set by “Bowling Stones” with four weeks left. “Bowling Stones” lead “Mustangs” by two points and Team 16 by four. My team bowls “The Doables” tonight, but I’ve been told most of them have pre-bowled, so it could be a quick night. For the leaders, “Bowling Stones” bowl against “Spear Me”, “Mustangs” against “Sweet Rolls”, and Team 16 against “Anger Management”.

Hagan bowls 300, Yelle 298 in Coke league

The closing moments of the second game in the Coke Classic league tonight saw Shawn Hagan and Ryan Yelle both with a chance at 300 only a couple of pairs away. Shawn connected first on his 300 game, while Ryan left the baby split on his last shot for a 298 game. Sorry, no video on Hagan’s perfecto, but it should be noted that I’ve run brackets in place of Eric Durden twice this season, and there was a 300 both times, the other 300 having been bowled by Pat Carrara earlier in the season.

Congrats Shawn and Ryan! 😀

Winter 2014 Week 14 virtual league results

“Tripped 4s” managed only two points from “Good Luck Bad Luck”, and we’re now one point behind Team 3 in last place entering the last week of the league. “6-Pack Abs” clinched the championship with one week left, so congrats to the members: “Dennis Michael”, “Domokun”, “Doogie”, “General Pounder”, and “Joe Bowler” (the last two of whom are now two-time champions).

2014 Westgate Lanes scholarship tournament results

The winners of the scholarships in the annual Westgate Lanes scholarship tournament, held today (all scores are with handicap):

Boys

  1. William Russell-Null 829 ($500)
  2. Kevin Thibeault 757 ($250)

Girls

  1. Taylor Harris 714 ($250)

Aside from some of the People’s Tournaments, I don’t usually mention prizes won in tournaments, but I do so with the scholarship tournament to point out to the parents of prospective youth bowlers that their children can win scholarship money in bowling. 🙂

Kevin Thibeault wins 2014 Mass. Pepsi tournament

The Mass. USBC Youth Association reported that Kevin Thibeault was the winner of the under-20 boys division of this year’s Massachusetts Pepsi scholarship tournament, which was contested last weekend at AMF Holiday Lanes in Somerset. Stephen Major was also reported as the fourth place finisher in the division.

Congrats to both, who will be going to the Junior Gold tournament in Buffalo, NY this summer. Kevin earned his spot back in September, and Stephen qualified on Mar. 30 in a tournament at AMF Auburn Lanes.

My Week 29 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

The lanes seemed tough tonight, so I was fairly happy with my 495, because I thought my look was a bit better than a couple of my higher-average opponents (who I realized I forgot to note when I posted the standings update today: “Anger Management”).

Result: 183-151-161=495
Average (87 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 166
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 604

As I alluded to, two of my opponents were well under average, and the result for us was three points.
