This Jacksonville TV station report notes that Jaguars players Scott Starks and Rashean Mathis will be the hosts of the second annual “Stars and Strikes Celebrity Charity Bowl” at the Jacksonville Bowl America. The event benefits Clara White Mission, a charity devoted to helping the homeless and disadvantaged. Other Jaguars players and local celebrities will join Starks and Mathis.

This Fox TV station report out of Atlanta notes that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward’s 2nd annual celebrity weekend will include a charity bowling tournament. Ward, the MVP of Super Bowl XLIII, is a Georgia native.

The San Francisco 49ers noted that their rookie class took time off from their first off-season program to have a bowling tournament. Linebacker Scott McKillop had the high game of the outing, a 176.

The Florida Times-Union reports that Jacksonville Jaguars safety Reggie Nelson will host the Mary Lakes Invitational charity bowling tournament on Saturday, June 27 at Orange Park Bowl America. The event honors Nelson’s mother, who died from breast cancer in 2006, and will benefit the North Florida affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.

The Huntington (WV) Herald-Dispatch notes in their calendar Miami Dolphins QB Chad Pennington’s 1st and 10 Foundation Celebrity Bowl, to take place Saturday at Colonial Lanes in Huntington.

Major League Baseball noted that Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino was honored with the 2008 Lou Gehrig Memorial Award partly on his work, along with Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, with the “Get In The Game” charity bowling and billiards tournament, which benefited the Philadelphia Futures mentoring program.

This press release by the NFL Player Charity Foundation notes that New Orleans Saints defensive back Mike McKenzie will host his fifth annual celebrity charity weekend, which will include a bowling tournament, to benefit his 34 Ways Foundation. The PBA reported that PBA Tour stars Sean Rash and Dino Castillo teamed up with the New York Knicks (along with other New York celebrities) last night for Knicks Bowl 10 at 300 New York. The event benefited the Garden of Dreams Foundation, which supports kids in crisis by allowing access to exclusive events at Madison Square Garden.

The La Jolla Light notes that San Diego Padres first baseman (and San Diego native) Adrian Gonzalez will host a “Celebrity Bowling Bash” to benefit his foundation (which assists underprivileged youth in San Diego). The article doesn’t give an exact date or a venue, but I would assume it’s this week somewhere in the San Diego area.

This motor sports site notes that some of drag racing’s best will take to the wood next Thursday as guests of the USBC to participate in the USBC Open Championships at the Cashman Center prior to the NHRA event at Las Vegas Speedway. Three teams, representing the Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock divisions, will participate in the team event and get VIP treatment, including visits to the scale room and squad room, as well as the traditional walk down the center aisle.

The New Jersey Nets site announced the team’s fourth annual “Nets Basketbowl,” also to be held today, at Wallington Lanes, which will involve the Nets’ players, coaches, and the Nets Dancers. The event benefits the team’s charitable foundation.

This AP wire report notes that Chicago Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro took his team bowling Tuesday during their Florida road trip to give them a break from practice and hopefully lift their spirits. The boost in morale that might have been gained probably wasn’t enough, however, as the Bulls were crushed by the Orlando Magic last night.

This hockey news site notes that the entire Montreal Canadiens team went to a tenpin bowling center in the Edmonton area yesterday as a team-building activity instead of holding a normal practice. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette notes that Penguins players will serve as team captains at a Pens and Pins charity bowling tournament, benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Thursday at the Crafton-Ingram Bowling Lanes. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette noted that outfielder Torii Hunter of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, a native of Pine Bluff, was in Springdale, AR for the Wilsons3 Foundation’s Strikeout Child Abuse Celebrity Bowling Event. The Rocky Mountain News reported that Denver Broncos Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall has been incorporating bowling into his activity schedule as he prepares for the game in Hawaii at the University of Central Florida, his alma mater. He stated that he had not been faring well in his bowling, however, as well as on the golf course.

I’ve mentioned Boston Red Sox reliever Manny Delcarmen’s “Bowlin’ Strikes for Schools” event before, but the Boston.com events calendar also notes that this year’s version of the event will take place tomorrow night, also at Kings.

I actually heard about this on the radio, but this Boston.com calendar item notes Celtics captain Paul Pierce’s “The Truth Strikes Again” celebrity bowling event at Kings on Monday, which will benefit Pierce’s “The Truth Fund.”

How did World Series champion and first-time Gold Glove winner Shane Victorino of the Philadelphia Phillies celebrate his accomplishments? By bowling with family and friends at the Red Rock Casino (home of the PBA’s Tournament of Champions), according to the Las Vegas Sun. The Chicago Blackhawks reported last Wednesday that defenseman Brent Seabrook would hold his first annual “ICE Bowl” on Saturday at 10pin Bowling Lounge in downtown Chicago, which involved several of Seabrook’s teammates. The event benefited the Inner City Education Program, which provides educational opportunites to area youth in low-income families who play organized hockey.
