Cross-training #64

The New Orleans Times-Picayune notes that New Orleans Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic will hold his second annual “Peja’s Charitabowl” on Dec. 7 to benefit his children’s foundation, which promotes health and fitness education through basketball. No word on if Chris Paul is scheduled to appear at the event.

Yes, Peyton Manning, the NFL’s cover boy, is a bowler, as confirmed by a note in an article on a motor sports site. The event is the PeyBack Bowl, to be held on Aug. 18 in Indianapolis, which benefits Peyton Manning’s PeyBack Foundation. He will be joined by IndyCar series drivers Scott Dixon, Sarah Fisher, and A.J. Foyt IV (which is why the note appeared on a motor sports site), along with other national and Indianapolis local celebrities.

The Chicago Cubs released information on closer Kerry Wood’s Strike Zone Celebrity Bowling Tournament, which will take place on Aug. 6 @ the 10pin bowling lounge on N. State Street to benefit the Chicago Public Schools’ Organic Schools Project. As is the norm with these events, it will also include a memorabilia auction with a total of 150 items.

This web report notes that New Orleans Saints (and former USC) running back Reggie Bush (with actress Kim Kardashian in tow) was a participant in Arizona Cardinals (and also a USC alum) quarterback Matt Leinart’s second annual charity bowling event at Hollywood’s Lucky Strikes Lanes. If I can find a more complete report on the event (with other sports stars in attendance noted), I’ll post a follow-up.

Cross-training #45

This gave me an opportunity to combine a “Cross-training” post with real bowling news. 😀

According to this note in the Winston-Salem (NC) Journal, homegrown NBA star Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets (perhaps my favorite NBA player other than a Celtic) will have a bowling event as part of his weekend to benefit his CP3 Foundation. The event will pair 5 PBA stars with 5 NBA players, marking the first time the PBA will participate in an event with other professional athletes. The event will be held on Sept. 20 and air on ESPN on Oct. 19 to kick off the new season of PBA telecasts (although it’s not officially a PBA Tour event).
