Congrats to Kris Higgins, who was in my Wednesday night league last year and whom I also know has bowled in the Coke league, for a 300 game the other night in the TNBA league. π
UPDATE: Jose Garcia got video of the last two strikes, which I’ve uploaded and share here, with Jose’s original post having been shared on the Brockton Bowling Association’s Facebook page.
While Rob Young was having a big night at the low end of Westgate Lanes, Jeff Carter, subbing in the Thursday Handicap Doubles league, which they’ve relocated to the high end of the house this year, threw a 300 game of his own. WTG Jeff! π
Rob Young has been the most successful bowler in the Patriots league this season, and showed it again the other night with games of 257, 300, and 248 for an 805 series. Proving some Westgate bowlers wrong, his big night came on lanes 17 & 18…and they say you can’t score at the low end of the house at Westgate Lanes. π
Sean Richard related to me before Coke league last night that he had a 299 game in the first round of match play on Sunday in NEBA’s Bowl Winkles Pro Shop Non-Champions at Apple Valley Bowl in Plantsville, CT. I also found it worth noting that the soon-to-be Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer threw the game against another association Hall of Famer, Ryan Yelle. Good work, Seany! π
This blog’s archives, going back to 2007, only show one 300 game in the Sunday Niters league, thrown by Ken Norris in December of 2009, but none since then until tonight, when Ken again threw 12 in a row. WTG Kenny! π
EDIT: It should also be noted that this is also the first honor score in the league since I joined it last fall, as well. π
Sean Richard added to his 300 game total tonight in the TNBA league, but even I can appreciate his latest 300 game story, as he related on Facebook: It was the first game out of the box with a new ball, Radical’s Jackpot; given that his nickname is “$eany Ka$h”, the name of the ball is fitting. Good job Seany! π
I’ve already noted Grant Henderson III’s perfecto Friday night, but there was another score in the TNBA league that night, with Ed Godino III, who also bowls in my Wednesday night league, shooting 299. WTG! π
Ryan Graywacz, champion of the NEBA event held at Westgate Lanes on Mar. 20, 2016 (Photo courtesy of NEBA)
The New England Bowlers Association reported onΒ their Facebook pageΒ that Ryan Graywacz won his first title yesterday at Westgate Lanes after defeating Matt Janas, 254-204, in the final match. Westgate bowlers cashing were Danny Khuu, Sean Richard, Brian Egan, Steve Dale Jr, and Ryan Yelle.
Also, Eric Frost and Nicole Trudell both had 300 games during the 9 AM squad, and Brian Egan used an 11 in a row 290 last game to get into the 9 AM squad cut.
Danny Khuu did something tonight that no bowler in the Coke league second third was able to, putting up a three-spot out of the gate on the 2007 Weber Cup pattern during the 6 PM NEBA squad. Khuu went on to be the squad leader with a +206 (five games), and John Kirker was the squad cut at +121, with NEBA taking seven bowlers out of the squad with 35 entries.
Not sure how many this is for him, but a lefty not named Sean Richard, Grant Henderson III, had a 300 game tonight in the TNBA league. Good bowling! π
The Bay State Open ran a dual event at Westgate Lanes Sunday, with their first youth singles event alongside an adult doubles event. The appropriate Facebook posts will be linked on the event type.
Champions of the Bay State Open adult doubles event on Mar. 13, 2016, Bill Briggs and Tina Gannon (Photo courtesy of Bay State Open)
In theΒ adult doublesΒ event, Bill Briggs & Tina Gannon were the winners after defeating Roland Sandefur & Tom Hedding 495-469 (with handicap) in a match that saw Gannon answer Hedding’s opening six-bagger with one of her own and Briggs closing out with a turkey. Clayton Hill Jr., along with his brother Bill, cashed from Westgate Lanes besides the finalists (Clayton is a newer bowler in my Wednesday night league), and the other team was Lanes & Games’ Jennifer Dorrington and Β John Litwin. 20 teams entered the event.
In qualifying, Briggs had games of 268, 290, and 258 for an 816 series, which Bill told me was his first 800 series, because he’s never bowled in a house shot league. Also, Sean Richard and John Litwin both had 300 games in qualifying.
Jacob Ostroff, champion of the first Bay State Open youth singles event, held on Mar. 13, 2016 (Photo courtesy of Bay State Open)
The Bay State Open’s first everΒ youth singlesΒ event saw 10 entries, with Jacob Ostroff besting Eldon Dunbar 288-228 (with handicap) in the final match, with Eric Buxton finishing third. Ostroff received $240 in SMART scholarship funds for winning.
Video of both championship matches will be posted here at a later date.
The 300 number was proving a tough nut to crack in the Coke league this season, with a few bowlers scoring in the 290s, but Tim Riordan finally broke through with the first one of the season tonight. WTG! π
Dan Esdale had the first 300 game of the season during the second week of bowling, and bowled his latest one tonight in the Westgate Mixed league. WTG! π
It took him pretty much a year and a half to do it, but “$eany Ka$h” put up his first Underground Bowling Association 300 game today in the Westgate Warriors’ match against Ice Nation at Laurel Lanes in Plainville, CT. Unfortunately, the big score rang kind of hollow, as, despite some very good scores, the Warriors lost the match 26-14.
I’ve mentioned Mark Zimmerman here before a few times for his tournament successes, but never for an honor score until now, as he had a 300 game last night in the Patriots league. And Bill Hill had a 299 game last night in the league, as well. Congrats to both! π
Finalists of the Feb. 21 NAT event at Westgate Lanes: Champion Mike Macedo, runner-up Ralph Dahlgren (Photo courtesy of NAT)
In their current newsletter, the Northeast Amateur Tournament reported that Mike Macedo became just the second back-to-back NAT champion by winning the Feb. 21 event at Westgate Lanes after winning the previous event at Strikers East. Macedo defeated Ralph Dahlgren (who is a Westgate bowler) in the final match, 298-278 (with handicap).
Besides Dahlgren, other Westgate bowlers cashing were Chris Mark, Bill Briggs, AJ Voisine, Hakim Emmanuel, and Zach Thompson. Also, congrats to Mike Antonucci, who had a 300 game during qualifying in this tournament.
It had seemed the only scores by women I’ve been mentioning this season were Tina Gannon’s, but I saw in the updated Patriots league standings that Shirley Major last week had games of 269, 245, and 215 (not necessarily in that order) for a 729 set. WTG Shirley! π
Congrats to Coke league bowler Shawn Hagan, who had a 300 game tonight in his house league, the Trios + 1 league at Town Line Luxury Lanes in Malden. π
I had already reported on Devon McGregor’s 300 game the other night, but a familiar name, Rob Young, also had a 298 game, which, had the old set of awards been in play, meant he would have had the season hat trick in the same league (11 in a row, 300 game, 800 series).
Nearly a year to the day Hakim Emmanuel made bowling history with the first 900 series in Massachusetts, Hakim’s current teammate in the Patriots league, Devon McGregor, bowled a 300 game of his own (although not on the same pair as the 900 series). Zach Thompson’s video of Devon’s last strike is below.
I wish I could mention Tim Major more on this blog, but I am able to tonight, as he started his night with a 300 game in the Westgate Mixed league. WTG Timmy! π
“$eany Ka$h” told me (via photo on Facebook) that he had a 290 game tonight in the TNBA league, and it was about as close as you’ll come to 300 without having it possible in the 10th frame, as he left a stone 9 pin in the first frame (PBA broadcaster Randy Pedersen often calls the solid 8 pin the only true tap in bowling, and, where Sean is a lefty, that would be his 9 pin.).
As posted onΒ their Facebook page, the Bay State Open reported that Corey Hanson was the winner of their Feb. 7 event at Westgate Lanes, defeating John Litwin, 267-244 (with handicap) in the title match. The linked post above has video of the title match, but I’m able to embed it below:
The semifinals of this event provided what had to be, in my memory, the highest-scoring tournament match ever at Westgate Lanes, as John Litwin defeated Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Jim Ferguson with a scratch score of 300-299. The post linkedΒ hereΒ has the video of Litwin’s last strike.
Tonight in the Patriots league proved to be a great night for Ray Fischer, who had games of 280, 268, and 279 for an 827 series, and “Tom Tom” Hedding, who threw a 300 game. Fischer’s series is now the high at Westgate Lanes this season.
In a bit of “clean-up” from last Thursday, a look at the Patriots league standing sheet brought a 297 game by Wayne Andrews to my attention, so congrats to Wayne on a nice game, as well. π
Not long after AJ Voisine wrote some of his personal history, Thomas Roberson bowled his first 300 game tonight in the Rhythm & Bowling league. Henry Webber provided this video of the last strike:
AJ “Big Country” Voisine picked a great spot to bowl his first ever perfect game, doing so to start his team event today in the city tournament. Sean Richard got video of AJ’s last strike, which I’ve uploaded to YouTube and post below.
Also, Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Dan Robinson came close to a 300 himself earlier in the day in the singles event, but had to settle for a 299.
Day 1 of the Brockton city tournament at Westgate Lanes didn’t see a huge scoring pace until the team event, when Chris Carter, Bill Briggs, and Jon Hester had 300 games in the first, second, and third games, respectively. Chris Carter, bowling out of North Bowl, is no stranger to success at Westgate, as he won the 2011 Brockton Bowling Association Bowler of the Year tournament here. I’d also like to specially acknowledge Bill Briggs at this time for his strong support of my social media effort, both here and on behalf of the association on our Facebook page.
Great bowling guys! π
EDIT: Zach Thompson got a video of Jon Hester’s last strike, and, with Zach’s permission, it’s below. π
The Patriots league has been relatively quiet, but I can report on a couple of scores tonight, the big one coming in the form of the third 300 game of the year by Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Rob Young; all of his perfect games this season have been in the Patriots league. Ralph Dahlgren didn’t quite get there himself, but he managed to add a 299 game to the mix tonight, as well.
It was one of those games in which you’re surprised “$eany Ka$h” wasn’t perfect, but in his first game tonight in the Westgate Mixed league, he threw the front 11, then left an unkind 7-10 in the pocket for a 298. Still a good game, Seany! π
