Congrats to Kevin Thibeault, who had games of 257, 276, and 269 for an 802 series today in the youth league! 😀

Files news about honor scores rolled in local leagues and tournaments
Brian Egan shoots 300 in Brunswick Mixed
It hasn’t happened often in my league since I joined it, but I’m happy to have viewed, from a few pairs over, Brian Egan’s perfect game tonight. Congrats buddy! 😀
Adam Johndrow bowls 300 game in His & Hers
Congrats to Adam Johndrow, with a 300 game, the third of his career, tonight in the His & Hers league! 😀
Roy Ellis, Mike Griffin bowl 290
I tend not to combine honor score posts, but, not wanting to make two posts, I decided to here. On Thursday night, Roy Ellis bowled a 290 game in the Patriots league, and, on the following night, Mike Griffin had one in the TNBA league. Congrats to both! 😀
Mat O’Connor bowls 296 in Westgate Mixed
I often don’t hear about scores in the Westgate Mixed league until a week later, just due to that league bowling at the same time as me, but Mat O’Connor, who I believe is getting his first mention here, threw an 11 in a row 296 in that league last week. Congrats Mat! 🙂
John Mayo bowls 300 in Patriots league
While at the center for other business tonight, I learned that John Mayo had a perfect game last night in the Patriots league. Congrats John! 😀
Adam Johndrow posts 11 in a row 279 in Rhythm & Bowling
Adam Johndrow was asked to sub in the Boston Rhythm & Bowling league last night, and in one of his games, missed a 10 pin before rattling off the last 11 strikes for a 279 game. WTG! 🙂
Aaron Major shoots 300 back-to-back; Kevin Thibeault also bowls 300
In something that’s not really news by now, Kevin Thibeault had his third 300 of the year, and second in the senior youth league this year, today. However, today belonged to Aaron Major, who posted perfect games for his first two games, and then added a 224 for an 824 series. Congrats to both! 😀
Bruce Perry throws first honor score at Ryan Family Amusements
I usually don’t report on honor scores away from Westgate Lanes unless they involve Westgate bowlers, but, due to the notability of this one, I’m making an exception: Bruce Perry threw a 298 game in the NAAITL league Tuesday night at Ryan Family Amusements in Raynham, MA, which is the first honor score thrown in USBC-certified competition there since the center converted duckpin lanes into tenpin lanes in the summer of 2013. The league itself had been bowling at AMF Taunton Lanes, which closed last summer. One of the league’s officers, Steve Parmeggiani, told me on Facebook that Bruce only left a 7-10 split in the game.
Congrats Bruce! 🙂
John Hayes Jr. throws perfecto in BBIS
Congrats to John Hayes Jr. on a 300 game last Friday night in the BBIS league. This is another league that uses more challenging patterns, and the league had WTBA Atlanta out for Hayes’ effort. 🙂
Matt Richard throws 290 game in Patriots
It turned out that Jason Sherwood’s 11 in a row last night wasn’t the only one in the Patriots league, as Sean Richard alerted me to one by his son Matt; Matt did get the spare in the first frame for a 290, however. Congrats Matty! 😀
Jason Sherwood throws 11 in a row 279 in Patriots
Tonight, Jason Sherwood shot a 279 game probably the hardest way you can, by missing a 10 pin in the first frame and following that up with the last 11 in a row in the Patriots league. WTG! 🙂
Westgate Warriors win first ever home match; Shawn Hagan throws 290 game
The Westgate Warriors defeated Pound For Pound 30-10 in their first ever home match by a score of 30-10 (points are given game and series for each match, scratch and two handicap, and also for the overall team total). The effort was paced largely by Shawn Hagan’s 290 game in the second handicap match, though the scratch match, with Sean Richard, Brian Egan, and Danny Khuu competing for the Warriors, was won handily by the Warriors, as well.
Elsewhere in the building, a 300 game was posted by Jesse Pickett, a member of the New England Heat, in the second game.
Jim Ferguson throws 300 in Walnut Hill marathon
The BBIS marathon wasn’t the only marathon tournament in the New England region today, and a Westgate bowler left his mark in one of those, as Jim Ferguson threw a 300 game in the 2nd four-game block of the 16-game marathon at Walnut Hill Bowl in Woonsocket, RI. Congrats Jim! 😀
Jan. 2015 BBIS marathon results
The results of today’s BBIS 10-game marathon tournament (scores are +/- 2000 after handicap added):
- Yat Voong +397
- Ed Roberts +301
- Rich Brignolo +253
- Louis Lam +249
There were 19 entries. Tim Major left a “fast 8” (4-7) in the first frame of Game 7, then ran the last 11 for a 290, the high game of the tournament.
Thank you to everyone who entered and congratulations to the cashers. The tournament management hopes to plan another one for May or June, after the state tournament.
2014-15 mid-season round-up
With the New Year, I devote the usual post to the high scores for both the men and women at Westgate Lanes during the season in-progress at the unofficial halfway point of the winter season. It will be based on the league standings sheets I have available at press time. High average will be for a minimum of 36 games, and youth bowlers will be included with the adult bowlers if they otherwise qualified.
Men
Average: 234.1; Sean Richard (Thursday Night Patriots, 45 games)
Series: 837; Ray Fischer (His & Hers)
Game: 300; Brian Egan (Coke Classic), Kevin Thibeault (Tuesday Scratch Sportsmen, Saturday Seniors {youth}), Chuck Gerlach, Bob Hamilton (Thursday Night Patriots)
Women
Average: 208.7; Shirley Major (Thursday Night Patriots, 39 games)
Series: 730; Sandi Litchfield (Westgate Mixed)
Game: 300; Sandi Litchfield (Westgate Mixed)
Readers interested in a particular league can check the standings sheets on BowlerExpress at http://www.bowlerexpress.com/4westgate except for the Tuesday Scratch Sportsmen and BBIS leagues, which post only on LeagueSecretary.com (LeagueSecretary.com link is to center index page).
Kevin Thibeault throws 300 in Tuesday Scratch Sportsmen
Technically, Kevin Thibeault is still a youth bowler, but, because he signed a waiver with the USBC in order to do so, could compete in the Tuesday Scratch Sportsmen league, an adult singles league (and singles leagues are the only adult leagues a youth bowler can compete in via the waiver process), and, tonight, he had his 6th career 300 game tonight in the league. Danny Khuu got video of the final two shots of the game, which I’ve uploaded to YouTube and have embedded below:
The lane condition for the league tonight was WTBA Los Angeles.
Congrats Kevin! 😀
Bob Hamilton shoots 300, Sean Richard 299 in Patriots (includes team honor)
Congratulations to Bob Hamilton on a perfect game tonight in the Patriots league; congrats also to Shirley Major, as Tim Major told me she shot 236 in that game, making the game a 536, better than the 526 game they had the week before the Thanksgiving break (and, of course, a mixed doubles honor game). 😀
Congrats also to Sean Richard, with a 299 game tonight! 😀
Henry Webber shoots 299 in Westgate Mixed
Meanwhile, down at the other end of the house, Henry Webber checked in with a 299 game tonight in the Westgate Mixed league. WTG Henry! 😀
Christine Major throws 288 game in His & Hers
She was probably hoping for a better night than a 611, but Christine Major did have a 288 game in that tonight in the His & Hers league. WTG! 😀
Matt Richard bowls 299 in Rhythm & Bowling
Most of my readers know that Sean Richard has 50 career perfect games, but his son Matt moved a step closer to starting to follow in his father’s footsteps tonight with a 299 game in the Rhythm & Bowling league. Congrats Matty! 😀
Jason Sherwood throws 300 in NEBA non-champions at Lang’s
I don’t have final results for the tournament yet, but I needed to note that Jason Sherwood threw a 300 game today in the NEBA non-champions event at Lang’s Bowlarama in Cranston, RI. The video of the last strike, recorded by Robin Goernert, is below.
Congrats Jason! 😀
Sandi Litchfield throws 2nd career 300 in Westgate Mixed
One of the other things I did catch tonight was the second perfect game thrown by Sandi Litchfield, which makes her the first woman with two sanctioned 300 games at Westgate Lanes (Tina Gannon also has two 300 games at Westgate Lanes, but one of those was in the People’s Tournament, which is unsanctioned.). Congrats Sandi! 😀
Bob Hamilton throws 826 set in Patriots league; Team also qualifies for honors
Congrats to Bob Hamilton, with games of 279, 257, and 290 for an 826 set tonight in the Patriots league. Moreover, I’ll link his daughter Stephanie’s Facebook photo of the desk printout here, as, given that, he and Shirley Major threw a 526 third game and a 1,506 series, both of which are national honor scores for a mixed doubles team. Congrats to Shirley for this, as well! 😀
Bob Hamilton posts 290 game in Patriots league
Congrats to Bob Hamilton, with an 11 in a row 290 game last Thursday in the Patriots league. 😀
Keith Tantillo shoots 290 in Coke league
Congrats to Keith Tantillo on a nice back-eleven 290 game tonight in the Coke league, for which I managed to sneak in a post on the association Facebook page in the middle of the third game while running brackets. The team wasn’t completely sure when I asked after the game, but they want to say Keith left the “almighty 10” in the first frame.
Danny Khuu wins 2014 Brockton USBCBA Bowler of the Year

Congratulations to Danny Khuu on winning the 2014 Brockton Bowling Association Bowler of the Year tournament today. The stepladder results were as follows:
Match 1: Danny Khuu def. Bob Hamilton 256-191
Semifinal: Khuu def. Ryan Yelle 249-180
Championship: Khuu def. Jason Sherwood 257-205
Khuu was dominant throughout the stepladder, and the title match was no exception, with Sherwood just staying clean and Khuu throwing an opening four-bagger before leaving a 10 pin, from which point Khuu cruised to victory.
There was one honor score in the tournament, belonging to Ryan Yelle, who closed his round of eight match with the first 11 before catching a bad break with an 8 pin.
Full results will be available soon on the Brockton Bowling Association website.
Paris Cook posts 299 game in TNBA league
Although he hasn’t broken through with a 300 game, Paris Cook is the first bowler with two honor scores at Westgate Lanes this season, following up an earlier 290 game in the TNBA league with a 299 in that league last night, with only a 4 pin preventing the perfecto. Congrats again Paris! 😀
2014 Westgate Lanes NEBA results
NEBA reported Mike Lichstein won his record 28th NEBA title, and his 4th at Westgate Lanes, this past Sunday. They reported on Facebook that Lichstein defeated Alex Aguiar by a score of 217-205 in the title match. Westgate Lanes bowler Sean Richard made a run into the quarterfinals before losing to Lichstein, and he was joined out of Westgate Lanes as cashers by Brian Gaskill, Jason Sherwood, Danny Khuu, Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Jim Ferguson, Eric Durden, Bob Hamilton, and Kevin Thibeault (who, competing as a youth bowler, will have his prize money deposited into his SMART scholarship account). Brian Egan of Westgate Lanes won the prize for high game outside of the cut.
The title match itself was a classic, as Aguiar had an early split, but it became apparent that whichever bowler could figure out the right lane first would win, and Lichstein broke through in the 9th frame. When Lichstein struck in the 10th to seal his victory, he was overcome by emotion (as it was his first NEBA title in four years) and flopped down on the approach. Entertainingly, Aguiar mimicked the gesture when he finally struck in the 10th on the problem right lane. An observation of Lichstein I made during match play was that he was constantly giving his opponents encouragement during the match. Mike Lichstein is a bowler who gets it, which reminded me of what the great bowling writer Chuck Pezzano said about the mindset of most bowlers: You want your opponent to bowl well, too, just you a little bit better.
There were five 300 games in the regular NEBA tournament, and I already posted about Brian Gaskill’s on Saturday, but one I missed on Saturday was thrown by Bob Dimuccio Jr. There were three more perfect games on Sunday, all of which I have video for, and I’ll go in order. First, Mike Wilson:
Charlie Bonis Jr.:
And, finally, Dave Martorella:
In addition, Mike Lichstein had a chance at one before a “super washout” (1-3-4-6-7 for a lefty) derailed him on the last shot.
2014 Senior NEBA results
According to the prize list posted by NEBA (via Facebook), John Kirker won the NEBA senior event held this past Saturday at Westgate Lanes. The match play results show that he defeated Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Jim Ferguson by a score of 246-191 in the title match. John Hayes Jr. was the other Westgate Lanes casher in the event.
There were two 300 games in the senior tournament, including John Papa, who had a 300 game in this event last year, as well, and Marcel Lessard, the video of which is below.
