Congrats to Shirley Major, who had a 279 high game in a 703 series last week in the Patriots league. 😀

Paris Cook shoots 290 in Boston Rhythm & Bowling
I mention him from time to time for what he does in the local tournaments, but, with this post, I get to mention something he did in the league setting: Paris Cook shot an 11 a row 290 last week in the Rhythm & Bowling league. Congrats Paris! 😀
Sandi Litchfield posts 727 set in Westgate Mixed
Sandi Litchfield has been on a nice little run in the Westgate Mixed league the last couple of weeks, because she, on the same night Bob Hamilton shot his 801 series, posted a second back-to-back 700 set with a 727. One of the games was a 247, but I’ll have to ask her what the three games were.
Congrats again, Sandi! 😀
Eric Durden, Chuck Gerlach, Steve Dale Jr. throw 300s in NEBA at Wonder Bowl
Congrats to Eric Durden, Chuck Gerlach, and Steve Dale Jr., all Westgate Lanes league bowlers who posted 300 games yesterday in the NEBA event at Wonder Bowl in New Bedford. The posted results showed Greg Flamand defeating Anthony Pepe by a score of 276-196 in the final match for his 4th title, and Sean Richard and Jason Sherwood, along w/ Steve Dale Jr., the Westgate Lanes league bowlers who cashed.
Mar. 8 King of the Hill results
The results of today’s King of the Hill tournament:
Match #1: Bob Hamilton def. Ralph Marple 212-155
Semifinal: Hamilton def. Keith Kaestner 227-213
Final: Hamilton def. Jewell Wilson 217-201
King: Hamilton def. Brian Egan 248-214
Note: All of the above were bowling scratch
There were 15 entries, with the cut to the stepladder of 458. Keith Kaestner had a 290 game in the first game of qualifying.
If King of the Hill resumes in this calendar year, Bob Hamilton will remain as king.
Bob Hamilton posts 300/801 in Westgate Mixed
Congrats to Bob Hamilton, with games of 300, 237, and 264 for an 801 series tonight in the Westgate Mixed league. Bob related to me some time ago that the last time he put up an 800, his sister (Shirley Major) also set the old women’s state record, so this has been some time in coming.
Congrats again, Bob! 😀
Sandi Litchfield posts 728 set in Westgate Mixed
Congrats to Sandi Litchfield, with a 246 high game in a 728 set last week in the Westgate Mixed league. 😀
Ray Fischer throws 290 game in His & Hers
Learned of this from his grandson, Stephen Major: Ray Fischer had an 11 in a row 290 game tonight in the His & Hers league. Congrats! 😀
Rich Fulton rolls 800 set in Coke league
Congrats to Rich Fulton with games of 287, 257, and 256 for an even 800 series tonight in the Coke league. It was the first 800 series in the league since Matt Yandek’s 801 on Mar. 21, 2011. I got video of the last two shots (Rich had the first strike in the last frame as I started the camera.), and it’s below, but those friends of Sean Richard (one of Rich’s teammates in the league) on Facebook can see a better quality video on his timeline.
Congrats again, Richie! 😀
Chris Major posts 729 set in His & Hers
Congrats to Chris Major, with games of 267, 264, and 198 for a 729 series this past week in the His & Hers league! 😀
Shane Litchfield throws first 700 series
I thought this worthy of an honor score mention because of his age: After turning 13 and graduating to the Junior division this season, Shane Litchfield today threw games of 211, 248, and 249 for a 708 series, his first 700 series. This has prompted me to wonder who the youngest bowler to throw a 700 series at Westgate Lanes was, and this point is currently under research.
Congrats Shane! 😀
Tina Gannon posts 288 game in Coke league
Consider this a case where I forgot about my “rules” about scores shot by women, even when I saw the game in question: Tina Gannon had a 288 game in the Coke league last week (Feb. 17). Congrats Tina! 😀
Rai Doblmeier posts perfecto in Sportsmen league
I noticed a 17th sheet with a perfect game on the pro shop window today, that being put up after Rai Doblmeier threw it in the Tuesday Sportsmen league this week. The league was on the WTBA Seoul pattern.
Congrats Rai! 😀
Pat Carrara posts perfect game in Coke league
Congrats to Pat Carrara on a 300 game tonight in the Coke league. I was there tonight, and saw the last strike, but didn’t have time to set up a shot with my cellphone. There was a good reason for this: I actually had a chance to run the brackets in the league tonight after having to back out of an opportunity earlier in the season for the last week of the fall virtual league. For a first time, things went fairly smoothly, but, wanting to keep my first time simple, I had to shut a couple of bowlers out after I filled ten brackets. Next time, I will acquaint myself with my bracket software’s refund features and will get everyone who wants in, in.
Jim Lovewell throws Mass. state record 888 series in Gardner
Got word of this on Facebook from Jason Sherwood: Tonight, at Gardner Ten Pin, Jim Lovewell threw games of 300, 300, and 288 for an 888 series, which, if approved by USBC headquarters, will be a new Massachusetts state record. Mike Fabian, with an 883 series on April 16, 2003 at North Bowl, had been holding the state record.
Peter Sands tosses perfecto in Patriots league
Congrats to Peter Sands, who threw a 300 game last night in the Patriots league. It should be noted that he bowls on a team in my summer league, and this is the first time I’ve mentioned one of that team’s (“Wyld Stallyns”) members individually. 😀
EDIT: This also happens to be my 2,000th post to this blog. If you’ve put up w/ me for all of those, I thank you. 😀
Brian Egan shoots 299 in People’s Tournament
Congrats to Brian Egan with a 299 game today in the People’s Tournament. Unsanctioned, unfortunately, so this blog will be the only place you’ll see the game being reported.
Adam Johndrow throws first career 300 in Thursday Hcp Doubles
Congrats to Adam Johndrow on his first career 300 game, thrown tonight in the Thursday Handicap Doubles league. The last strike of the game, as recorded by Tom “TomTom” Hedding, is below:
Sean Richard throws 299 game in Boston Rhythm & Bowling
Congrats to Sean Richard on a 299 game thrown last night while subbing in the Boston Rhythm & Bowling league! 😀
Keith Kaestner posts 290 game in Brunswick Mixed
I didn’t see this until on Facebook later, but Keith Kaestner, my league’s vice president, threw a 290 game to end his night tonight. Congrats Keith! 😀
Bill Major shoots 299 in Coke league
Congratulations to Bill Major, a Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer and reigning Bowler of the Year champion, on a 299 game tonight in the Coke league. After throwing the first 11, Bill left one light to leave the 2 pin standing.
Congrats again, Bill! 😀
Mike Trent shoots 300 in Patriots league
After going half of the season without one, the Patriots league this year finally has a 300 game in it, thrown tonight by Mike Trent. Congrats Mike! 😀
Ryan Evans throws 300 game in Coke league
Congrats to Ryan Evans, with the second 300 game of the Coke Classic league season tonight. I did manage to get this one on my phone, and it’s embedded below. 😀
2013-14 mid-season round-up
With the New Year, I devote the usual post to the high scores for both the men and women at Westgate Lanes during the season in-progress at the unofficial halfway point of the winter season. It will be based on the league standings sheets I have available at press time. High average will be for a minimum of 36 games, and youth bowlers will be included with the adult bowlers if they otherwise qualified.
Men
Average: 229.9; Dan Esdale (Thursday Night Patriots, 48 games)
Series: 790; Ed Alfieri (Westgate Mixed)
Game: 300; Dan Robinson (Coke Classic), Brian White, Jim Alfieri, Bob Hamilton, Rob Dickens, Harry Thibeault (Westgate Mixed), Jewell Wilson, Dan Esdale (TNBA)
Women
Average: 207.2; Chris Major (His & Hers, 42 games)
Series: 744; Tina Gannon (Coke Classic)
Game: 290; Chris Major (His & Hers)
Readers interested in a particular league can check the standings sheets on BowlerExpress at http://www.bowlerexpress.com/4westgate except for the Tuesday Scratch Sportsmen League, which posts only on LeagueSecretary.com
Note: I usually don’t file these posts under Honor Scores, but this is the first time I am aware of Tina Gannon’s 744 series, which I apparently missed when she threw it. Congrats Tina! 😀
Greg Rand posts 290 game in Patriots league
The Patriots league has been pretty quiet for honor scores so far, but, last week, Greg Rand checked in for them with an 11 in a row 290 game. Congrats Greg! 😀
Brian White tosses 300 in Westgate Mixed
The Westgate Mixed league appears to be the “hot” league for honor scores this season, and Brian White continued that trend tonight with a 300 game. Congrats Brian! 😀
Hall of Famers Robinson, Travers go on scoring spree
Tonight was a good night for the lefties on the “Travis” team in the Coke league, as Dan Robinson started his night with the first 300 game in the league this season, then Steve Travers followed the next game with the first 11 before a pocket 7-10 bit him for a 298 game. Both, of course, are Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famers. Congrats to both! 😀
Bob Hamilton tosses perfecto in Westgate Mixed
I sort of hate when someone throws a 300 down the high end of the center (in the Westgate Mixed league), since I usually don’t see those because I’m bowling myself. That said, I liked hearing that Bob Hamilton threw one tonight in that league. Congrats Bob! 😀
Jessica Lowe throws 279 game in TNBA league
Congrats to Jess Lowe on a 279 game thrown last week in the TNBA league. 😀
Steve Dale Jr. rolls 299 game in Coke league
In the third game of tonight’s Coke league session, Steve Dale Jr. ran the first 11 strikes before a ringing 10 pin robbed him of a perfect game, the 299 which is now the high game in the league this season. Congrats Steve! 😀
