Aaron Major, the reigning NEBA Rookie of the Year, may have come up just short of his first title yesterday in Auburn (which I shared live on the Facebook page), but he did something else notable: He had a 300 game bowling against Jim Dumas in the first match play round (of 16). Good work, Aaron! 🎳😎

Matt Jackson victorious in NAT Old School Singles at Westgate; Calvin Scott nails perfecto

The Northeast Amateur Tournament reported on Facebook (must be logged in to view) that Matt Jackson was the winner of the Old School Singles event held yesterday (Sept. 13) at Westgate Lanes, defeating Calvin Scott 245-210 (with handicap) in the final match. In the “Old School” format, all of the qualifiers bowled two games, with the top four scores advancing to the stepladder final round (qualifying pins did not carry over). Joe Bourhill, Danny Khuu, Bob Goulart, Ethan Reyes, Cameron Kaestner, Mike “Sensae” Reed, and Chris Zalewski were the Westgate bowlers cashing.
Calvin Scott, the runner-up, had a 300 game during qualifying for the event on the second squad, the final strike which was recorded by Sean Richard and sent to me for posting here:
The event drew a healthy 91 entries, a good number, considering the current public health situation.
Congrats to Matt and Cal, and all of the other cashers. .🎳😎

Aaron Major slams 300/846 in His & Hers
Aaron Major had his best league night yet, according to his mother, Debbie, when he went 289-300-257 for an 846 the other night in the His & Hers league, noted also in the league’s weekly highs. Debbie messaged me asking if I was aware; I was, not having posted yesterday due to dealing with Hakim’s 5th anniversary. However, I did put it up on the association’s new Instagram, which I’ll embed here if I can figure out how to do it.
WTG Aaron! 🙂
Note: Aaron’s average in the league is currently 250.50. The highest average in the state that I’m aware of is Alex Aguiar’s 250 for 96 games in the old Westport Match Play Classic league at Holiday Lanes in the 2009-10 season. Henry Verdini, president of the state association, along with his wife, Barbara, are helping me try to find other state record candidates.
UPDATE: Attempting to embed the Instagram about Aaron’s night here:
