I finally saw an update for the Wednesday summer league and learned that a member of the Brunswick Mixed league, Sammy Wong, had a 299 game last week. Very nice! 🙂

Keith Kaestner throws 290 in Monday doubles
The Monday Summer Doubles league has been updating standings same-night, but I didn’t realize that until last night, when I saw that Keith Kaestner had a 290 for the high game of last week. Nice bowling, Keith! 🙂
Sean Richard tosses 299 at Wonder Bowl
I saw Stephanie Bourhill’s Facebook video of Sean Richard’s 300 attempt in the Wonder Bowl Summer Classic league last night, but left a solid 9 pin for a 299. Sean additionally reported that an open 8th frame in the third game cost him the 800, but bowled a 268 fourth game to go over 1,000 for the set.

Danny Khuu shoots 299 in Monday doubles
On the first night of the Monday summer doubles league, Danny Khuu put up a 299 game, which was probably his last bowling before his Vegas nationals trip. WTG! 🙂
Aaron Major sets new BPUSBC record average
Tim Major reported to me that his son Aaron finished the His & Hers season with a 241.6 average. As Jim Ferguson’s record average last season was 240.83, Aaron becomes the new BPUSBC association record holder. Congrats Aaron! 🙂
Corey Major becomes youngest with 300 at Westgate
Congratulations to Corey Major, who bowled his first 300 game tonight in the Adult/Junior league. As I was able to confirm with Rose Hamilton, Corey, at age 14, is now the youngest bowler with a 300 game at Westgate Lanes, pending formal USBC certification.

Billy Trudell wins 2nd NEBA title at Westgate
Following a thrilling tie at 236, Billy Trudell defeated Jalen Scott-Jones 49-40 in a 9th & 10th frame roll-off to claim his 2nd title (first singles) at the NEBA Westgate Lanes Open. The title match punctuated a fun match play portion of the tournament, which also saw 16-year-old Nate Purches take down New England bowling legend Mike Lichstein in the first round, as well as a sibling “rivalry” match in the semifinals (Billy Trudell vs. his sister Nicole).

Westgate’s cashers were Aaron Major & Kevin Thibeault, who both reached the quarterfinals, along with Alex Aguiar & Shawn Hagan; Jim Ferguson was high senior out of the money.
Sunday’s qualifying was highlighted by Eric Copping’s 264-300-290 for an 854 (first three of five) on the 12:30 PM squad, and a 290 by Bill Webb and a 299 by Brian Boghosian on the 9 AM squad.
Blanket congratulations to all, and thank you to the NEBA tournament staff for running another great tournament.
2019 NEBA Saturday notes
A couple of notes/observations from tonight’s NEBA squad:
- Jim Savasta had the high game on the squad with a 299, with a 9 pin spoiling the perfecto.
- Both lefties on the squad, Westgate’s Aaron Major along with Jalen Scott-Jones, made the squad cut. With PBA Tour champion Anthony Pepe, also a lefty, due at Westgate in the morning, tomorrow will be really interesting.
Aaron Major posts 804 in His & Hers
As announced by the BPUSBC above, Aaron Major threw 279-268-257 for an 804 series tonight in the His & Hers league. Aaron actually needed a 266 third game to break Jim Ferguson’s association record average, but Sean Richard reported to me that Aaron left a stone 8 pin in the penultimate frame, which cost him the record.
Congrats again, anyway, Aaron! 🙂
Shawn Hagan rolls 300 in Pepsi league
The Pepsi league season also ended with a bang last night, with Shawn Hagan putting up a trey, the last shot of which is shown below:

Sean Richard throws 810 in Westport
“$eany Ka$h” has been bowling the Westport Trios league at Holiday Lanes on Monday nights rather than the Pepsi league. While it took him until the last night, he finally broke through last night, posting 267-266-277 for an 810 (see above). WTG! 🙂
Bob Hamilton throws 300 in Westgate Mixed
Congrats to BPUSBC Hall of Famer Bob Hamilton, who had a 300 game on the Westgate Mixed League’s position night, which was his second in the league’s last three weeks. I’m not sure, but his team may be in that league’s roll-off next week.

AJ Voisine rolls 300 in team at Mass. state tournament

Rob Young emailed me a couple of Westgate scores yesterday from Sunday at the state tournament, Rob himself with a 290 in team, and Brian Egan with a 298 in doubles. Good bowling, guys! 🙂
Sean Richard posts 290/804 in singles at Mass. state tournament
According to the recap he posted on Facebook, Sean Richard had 236-290-278 for an 804 in singles at the Mass. open state tournament in Auburn. He had decent scores in his other events, coming away with a 2,226 all-events score. Good bowling! 🙂
Ed Ashbaugh tosses 300 in Falmouth
Per the post above, Pepsi leaguer Ed Ashbaugh had a 300 game last night in the Thursday Night Mixed league at Trade Center Bowl in Falmouth, which, judging from his other recent posts, was his first in that house. Congrats! 🙂

Sean Richard rolls 297 in Patriots league
Sean Richard had a rare choke on a 300 last night, finishing a game out with a 297, but I can’t let it be said that he didn’t have an excuse: He became a grandfather for the first time this week, so congratulations to Seany, his son Matt, and Amanda, the mother.
Jon Hester rolls 300 in singles at Mass. open state tournament
Brian Egan was not the only Westgate bowler with a notable score today at states, as Jon Hester had a 300 in his singles event. Seany also had this video:

The state tournaments usually don’t start until after Easter, but Easter Sunday at the open state tournament in Auburn proved kind to Brian Egan, who went 300-253-258 for an 811 in the doubles event. He was bowling with Sean Richard, who recorded this video:

My team was bowling against Livin on a Spare last night, and, in the last game, their anchor bowler, Bobby Geddes, bowled his first 300 game. All I could do was smile at the achievement…WTG Bobby. 🙂

Sean Richard fires 290/838 in Spring Holiday Doubles; team shoots 558/1579
The real story of the BPUSBC Spring Holiday Doubles tournament yesterday came in the first squad, in which Sean Richard went 259-289-290 for an 838, which, with Jim Ferguson’s 227-246-268=741, was good for a 558 high team game and a 1,579 series, both of which will be reported to USBC headquarters.
There was one other score yesterday, a 290 bowled by Mike Morrissey. Good bowling to all! 🙂
Bill Briggs slams 300/833 in Pepsi league
It may be time to crown Bill Briggs “King of the (Middle) Road” at Westgate Lanes, because not only did he bowl his second 300 game of the quarter last night, but bookended that with games of 257 and 276 for an 833 set, rare territory for the Pepsi league. Great night, Billy! 🙂
Shawn Hagan wins NAT “Throw the Low”
The Northeast Amateur Tournament reported on Facebook (must be logged in to view) that Shawn Hagan defeated Jim Ferguson, 255-254 (with handicap) in the title match of yesterday’s “Throw the Low” event at Westgate Lanes. In this format, the bowlers bowled four games of qualifying, with the high three only counting toward the total. It was Hagan’s first NAT singles title.
Congrats also to Kevin Kelliher, who had a 297 in qualifying.
