After winning two points from Spare Us, Let’s MixEm up is in a tie with Striking Gentlemen for 12th, 12 points behind Last Empire, who lead Creeden’s Mustangs by two points, with Stacked and Sweet Rolls tied for 3rd, four points behind the leaders. 10th Frame Magic will be the team we cross with tomorrow night.

League recaps
Sean Richard slams 299/847 in Rhythm & Bowling
We’re used to big scores from Sean Richard, but the Boston Rhythm & Bowling league provided a new setting for one last night, and it was a monster: 255-299-289 for an 847 set, now high in the house this season. Nice bowling!
Tasheka Douglas rolls 724, Taylor Sinkler 274 in Rhythm & Bowling
I’ve posted about Tasheka Douglas, who had a 724 set last week in the Rhythm & Bowling league, before, but, for this post, she is joined by a new name: Taylor Sinkler, who had a 274 game. Good bowling, ladies. 🙂
2018-19 Pepsi league 4th quarter lane condition
The last quarter of the Pepsi league starts tomorrow night, and the lane condition will be Middle Road (link on name will load the pattern graph).
As an aside, Bill Briggs once told me that his team, now Eklund Electric, has never lost a Coke/Pepsi league segment on Route 66, and that continued, as they won the third quarter this season on the lane condition.
Good luck & good bowling!
Patriots league team bowls 2,257 series
One of the bowlers involved alerted me last night that his team, Team 17, with a lineup of Mark Zimmerman, Jon Hester, and Rob Young, shot a 2,257 team series last week in the Patriots league, which is over the USBC reporting threshold. Here are the line scores, for the record:
Zimmerman: 223-226-278=727
Hester: 278-242-248-768
Young: 258-290-214=762
Nice bowling guys! 🙂
Mar. 13 Brunswick Mixed recap
Before I get started about last night’s league play, I had a practice session with Stephen Major watching, and not only did he give me something to work on, he assessed my arsenal and suggested I start with the Hy-Road. Finishing a second line, I had something like the last six.
My Week 28 bowling, frame-by-frame
The second game is not one I’ll blame on poor spare shooting, but rather missing a ball change, because the Hy-Road was not moving at all, but the Tropical Breeze held me in good stead the rest of the night. Indeed, it was my second-best third game of the season.
Result: 174-133-207=514
Average (78 games): 169
Average for last 9 games: 166
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 534
Composite average (84 games): 171
We were missing both Si and Eric, but won the third game by enough to steal total.
Afterward, I mentioned to Stephen that I had an Alpha Crux at home; he said to bring it over.
2018-19 Week 27 league standings update
After failing to win points from Great Balls of Fire, Let’s MixEm Up is in a tie for 12th with Striking Gentlemen, 11 points behind Last Empire, who lead three teams (Sweet Rolls, Stacked, and Creeden’s Mustangs) by two points. Spare Us are tonight’s opposition.
Ralph Dahlgren shoots 300 in Patriots league
Congrats to Ralph Dahlgren, who had the 277 in Strike F/X’s 857 game last week, for a 300 last night. Sean Richard’s video is below:
Hy Bao rolls first 300 in Malden
I’ve written plenty about the Pepsi league’s Hy Bao and his successes in tournaments, but never for a score, and it was a notable one for him: His first 300 last night in Malden. Congrats! 🙂
Mar. 6 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 27 bowling, frame-by-frame
Multi-pin spares, particularly splits and washouts, doomed this night, with the prime example being the back-to-back 4-5-7s, which told me I could no longer swing it. I missed two single pins, but neither was a 10.
Result: 169-138-166=473
Average (75 games): 169
Average for last 9 games: 163
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 538
Composite average (81 games): 171
Eric couldn’t make it (car trouble) and Si missed the first game; team won no points.
Strike F/X team leads way in Patriots league
The Strike F/X Patriots league team put up an impressive game in their first game last week, with Ralph Dahlgren’s 277 bookended by 290s by John Camara and Alex Aguiar for an 857 game, which would be a pin shy of high trios game in the nation at press time. They finished out with a 2,314 series, also a reportable series. The performance was big enough to make a 300 game by Danny Khuu an afterthought.
Good bowling guys! 🙂
2018-19 Week 26 league standings update
After winning four points from Striking Gentlemen, Let’s MixEm Up is in a four-way tie for 10th with Party of Six, Spare Us, and Great Balls of Fire, the last team which will be our position round opponents tomorrow night. The tie is eight points behind a tie for the lead between Last Empire and Sweet Rolls, with Stacked and Creeden’s Mustangs tied for third, a point behind the lead.
Eric had the high scratch and handicap game in men’s “A”, and Si swept the board in men’s “E”.
Chris Hanson throws 290 in Pepsi league
Shout-out to Chris Hanson, who, subbing for the Spicy Nutz Pepsi league team, put up a 290 game last night. I hope you’ll become a regular member of the league next season.
Donald Graves shoots 300 in Rhythm & Bowling
I wasn’t sure I could share the recap screen photo, but Donald Graves posted on Facebook that he had just his 2nd 300 game last night in the Rhythm & Bowling league. Congrats! 🙂
Sean Richard fires 300/802 in Malden
Sean Richard did it again last night in his Wednesday night league in Malden, going 235-300-267 for an 802. By count, that was Seany’s 5th 800 in the league this year, so I asked him about the Greater Boston association’s record average, and he told me he’s a pin ahead of Ken Corkum’s record of 245.
Keep it up! 🙂
Gary Weiner shoots 299 in Westgate Mixed
Congrats to Gary Weiner for a fine 299 game last night in the Westgate Mixed league. I was told he did it with a ball Sean Richard suggested for him. WTG! 🙂
Feb. 27 Brunswick Mixed recap
My team got good news when Eric Healy, who is on the Sunday night team I sub for, messaged me on Facebook asking if I had room on my Wednesday night team and asked if he could join us after I affirmed that fact. Eric carries a 213 average on Sunday night, so he became our new anchor bowler, with me moving to set-up.
My Week 26 bowling, frame-by-frame
Other than the splits and the washout in the third game, my night was pretty good. The real issue, however, was carrying my 7 pin, all but one of the solid variety.
Result: 174-202-136=512
Average (72 games): 170
Average for last 9 games: 163
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 576
Composite average (78 games): 172
Si was really the one who stole the show, with a second game 267 that was just one pin from a 300 game, and had a 604 total. Eric shot a slightly bigger 600, and even Steve got into the act with a 134 third game. Needless to say, team won all four.
2018-19 Week 25 league standings update
After winning one point from 5 Spares, Let’s MixEm up is in a tie for 12th with that team and Striking Gentlemen (tomorrow night’s opponents), 10 points behind a three-way tie for the lead between Last Empire, Sweet Rolls, and Stacked, with Creeden’s Mustangs two points behind the tie in 4th.
A position round looms next week.
Paris Cook throws 813 set in TNBA league
Last night, in the TNBA league, Paris Cook equaled his personal high series, going 258-277-278 for an 813 series, which is the number I reported for his first 800 series. If you doubt me, feel free to search the blog. 🙂
Congrats Paris! 🙂
Jim Ferguson shoots 300 in Patriots league
Sean Richard posted a Facebook video of Jim Ferguson with another 300 game last night, the 20th of his career and third this month. This is the only one of the three in league play, as the others were in his NEBA win and the association tournament.
Congrats! 🙂
Feb. 20 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 25 bowling, frame-by-frame
Very inconsistent (moves would have the opposite effect) as well as being unfortunate (all of the stone 7s). This is probably part of a February slump I think I get into.
Result: 160-156-171=487
Average (69 games): 170
Average for last 9 games: 162
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 575
Composite average (75 games): 172
Si had a bad night for the first time in a while, so the team only won one (first game).
Steve Travers bowls 299 in Patriots league
Congrats to association Hall of Famer Steve Travers, one of my longest standing friends in bowling, with a 299 in the Patriots league last week. 🙂
Dave Chalifoux rolls 300 in Malden
Congrats to Pepsi league bowler Dave Chalifoux, who had a 300 in the MBTA league at Town Line last night. 🙂
2018-19 Week 24 league standings update
After splitting 2-2 with The Fun Team, Let’s MixEm Up is tied for 11th with Party of Six and Striking Gentlemen, eight points behind a three-way tie for the lead between Stacked, Sweet Rolls, and Lost & Found, with Last Empire one point behind. 5 Spares are tomorrow night’s opponents.
Si was high in his division in every category except for handicap game last week (Brad Doten had 244 with handicap).
Feb. 13 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 24 bowling, frame-by-frame
Found out that my Hy-Road is still useful for down & in shots, but not carrying and missing the spares is still not going to cut it. The missed 10s were particularly frustrating, as I’d thought I’d found a way to cut the hook and the ball still went left.
Result: 150-174-151=475
Average (66 games): 170
Average for last 9 games: 163
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 549
Composite average (72 games): 172
Si had a clean 195-ish game second game, and, where that was my better game, we won it and hung on for total. All three games could have been won, really.
Alex Major tosses 290 in Patriots league
I noticed in the week’s Patriots league scores that Alex Major had a 290 game on what was otherwise a quiet week. WTG Alex! 🙂
2018-19 Week 23 league standings update
After forfeiting to Last Empire, Let’s MixEm Up is in a tie for 11th with Spare Us, 10 points behind Sweet Rolls, who lead Lost & Found by two points, Stacked by three points, and Last Empire by four points. The Fun Team are tomorrow night’s opponents.
Sean Richard posts 290/811 in Malden
Meanwhile, Sean Richard posted on his Facebook that he went 243-290-278 for an 811 set last night in Malden. WTG Ka$h! 🙂
Jake Tobin slams 300/846 in Brunswick Mixed
For our league, 846 is a monster set, and that was the score Jake Tobin threw off last night, going 279-267-300 and really just four pins away from 900. Great bowling! 🙂
Feb. 6 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 23 bowling, frame-by-frame
We were moved at the start because a mess was made near the bowling area, and the pocket was mostly elusive on the new pair. I just made enough spares to get to 500.
Result: 190-155-158=503
Average (63 games): 171
Average for last 9 games: 169
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 577
Composite average (69 games): 173
Because I didn’t have Si (sick) or Steve (left before bowling started), my team had to forfeit, and I’m not sure of the future of the team going forward.
