2018 Brunswick Mixed roll-off

Dawg Pound used an 1,113 third game (with handicap) to erase a 33-pin deficit and win the championship of the Brunswick Mixed league over Sweet Rolls, 3,050-2,980. Ken Gerraughty (663) and Jake Tobin (675) led the way for Dawg Pound, while Shawn Coles (648) was high man on Sweet Rolls.

Congrats to Dawg Pound, who are in Ken Gerraughty’s photo below:

2017-18 Week 36 league standings update

Just one league to update, and it’s about the final second half standings:

  • Brunswick Mixed: As a result of splitting 2-2 with Striking Gentlemen, Let’s MixEm Up ended the second half in 6th place. Sweet Rolls swept all four from Creeden’s Mustangs and are the second half winners, bowling against Dawg Pound tomorrow night for the league championship. I’ve given the roll-off “live blog” coverage in the past, but may not tomorrow night, as I’m not sure about the status of the wifi connection. I’ll still make sure I post the result of the roll-off.

Gino Beniamino bowls 300, “Mr. 900” 299 in Pepsi league

There were a couple of big games in the Pepsi league last night, not the least of which was a 300 by Gino Beniamino, and he made another close approach to one later in the night with a 289. A more notable game than that, however, was bowled by “Mr. 900” Hakim Emmanuel, who had his very first 299 game after the run of 300 games that started with the 900 series. As happens often, a 10 pin stood on the last shot.

Nice bowling guys! 🙂

May 9 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 35 bowling, frame-by-frame

After three consecutive open frames in the middle of the first game, I was chasing the score a little bit, but I still had a shot at my +1 if I could go sheet after the strike in the 8th third game, which fizzled by missing a 2 pin and chopping a baby split. My spare game was balanced by making every 10 pin, as well as a couple of tougher splits.

Result: 150-194-204=548
Final average (99 games): 179
Average for last 9 games: 176

Final composite average (183 games): 179

We would have moved ahead of our opponents with a third game win, but my failed baby split conversion cost us, as their anchor went spare-strike to win by one pin.

2017-18 Week 35 league standings update

Just one league to update:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning three points from Spare Change, Let’s MixEm Up is in 6th place, seven points behind Creeden’s Mustangs, who are a half-point ahead of Sweet Rolls, a point-and-a-half ahead of Last Empire, and four ahead of Minds In the Gutter. Tonight is a position round, so the team in 5th place is Striking Gentlemen, whom we’re a point behind. Kathy had the high handicap game and series last week in the women’s “C” division.

May 2 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 34 bowling, frame-by-frame

I mostly struggled with my release last night, failing to connect on a double and leaving multi-pin spares more often than not. The third game had a chance to be clean, but I missed the pocket in the 10th, leaving a tough spare.

Result: 154-154-180=488
Average (96 games): 179
Average for last 9 games: 165
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 581

Composite average (180 games): 179

Team won a close second game (by two pins) and the third by enough for total.

2017-18 Week 34 league standings update

Update on my league standings after Week 34:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning all four from Knock Em Down, Let’s MixEm Up is in a tie for 5th place with Striking Gentlemen, six points behind Creeden’s Mustangs, who are a half-point ahead of Last Empire and Sweet Rolls and three points ahead of Minds in the Gutter. Spare Change will be our opponents tomorrow night; for the leaders, Creeden’s Mustangs bowl against Minds in the Gutter, Last Empire against 5 Spares, and Sweet Rolls against Gutt Er Done.
  • Sunday Niters: The 4-4 split against We Don’t Give a Split enabled The Three Stooges to remain in 6th place in the final second half standings. Broads With Balls won the half by four points over Ten Is Enough.

“Mr. 900” slams 300/815 for first 800 series

It was known at the time of his 900 series that Hakim Emmanuel never had an 800 series. But, tonight, in the TNBA Mixed league, he bowled his first 800 series by going 278-237-300 for an 815. There have been many coincidences surrounding Hakim, and his first 800 series came on lanes 47 & 48, the 900 pair, which this video of Hakim’s last two strikes recorded by Kris Higgins confirms:

Congrats Hakim! 🙂

Jim Ferguson 299/835, Bill Major 300/824 lead wild Patriots league scoring night

Last night was such a crazy scoring night in the Patriots league that I felt the best way to present the scores would be in list form:

  • Hall of Famer Jim Ferguson had the best night of all, going 299-279-257 for a personal high 835 set.
  • Hall of Famer Bill Major posted 266-258-300 for an 824 series.
  • No honor game for “TomTom” Hedding, but he threw 269-277-268 for an 814 series.
  • Finally, “Mr. 900” Hakim Emmanuel put up a 300 game first game, as did Ralph Dahlgren. Hakim’s was on 25 & 26, meaning he now has a 300 game in the original building (up to lane 32).

Nice bowling all around guys! 🙂

UPDATE: Sandi Litchfield got this video of Ralph’s last shot:

Apr. 25 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 33 bowling, frame-by-frame

I bowled well enough to get my +1 tonight, but I also left some pins out there in single-pin misses, especially the two 8 pins I left on great shots. However, to provide the balance, I converted a couple of splits.

Result: 195-188-173=556
Average (93 games): 180
Average for last 9 games: 181
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 625

Composite average (174 games): 179

Si pre-bowled a 580, which provided us the foundation with which to win all four.

2017-18 Week 33 league standings update

Updating my league standings after Week 33:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After splitting 2-2 with Sweet Rolls, Let’s MixEm Up is in 8th place, nine points behind Creeden’s Mustangs, who lead Last Empire by a point-and-a-half, Sweet Rolls by 2.5 points, and Minds in the Gutter by five points. Knock Em Down will be tomorrow night’s opposition.
  • Sunday Niters: After failing to win points from Ball Busterz, The Three Stooges are in 6th place and will bowl against We Don’t Give a Split to end the season Sunday night. Broads With Balls are leading by four points over Ten Is Enough, seven points over Suzy’s Crew, and ten points over Here For the Beer.

Apr. 29 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 29 bowling, frame-by-frame

My night started out poorly (four straight open frames), and I never really recovered, though I bowled better after my ball change. My conversion of the 4-5-7 was probably the highlight of the night, given how difficult it is to cover the corner pin on that split.

Result: 138-170-171=479
Average (81 games): 179
Average for last 9 games: 163
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 572

Composite average (171 games): 179

Ed was the only bowler present who shot 500, but we still failed to win points.

Apr. 18 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 32 bowling, frame-by-frame

I was on one of my weaker pairs tonight, and largely bowled like it, with no strikes on the right lane until the third game. Given how the night went, the 190 third game felt like a moral victory.

Result: 146-110-190=446
Average (90 games): 179
Average for last 9 games: 174
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 545

Composite average (168 games): 180

Team managed to split 2-2, with Tom being the high of the bowlers actually there (two of the opponents pre-bowled).

2017-18 Week 32 league standings update

My leagues’ standings after Week 32:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning three points from Minds in the Gutter, Let’s Mix Em Up is tied for 7th place with Dawg Pound, seven point’s behind Creeden’s Mustang’s, who are a half-point ahead of Sweet Rolls (tomorrow night’s opponents), a point ahead of Last Empire, and three points ahead of Minds in the Gutter. As our secretary is on vacation, I do not have divisional high scores for the week.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning two points from Ten Is Enough, The Three Stooges are in 6th place, 21 points behind Broads With Balls, who are four points ahead of Ten Is Enough, 11 points ahead of Suzy’s Crew, and 12 points ahead of We Don’t Give a Split. Ball Busterz are our opponents Sunday night; for the leaders, Broads With Balls face Adam & Steve (Team 4), Ten Is Enough face Here for the Beer, and Suzy’s Crew face We Don’t Give a Split. The last position round for the second half is next week.

Apr. 15 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 28 bowling, frame-by-frame

I was only ordinary tonight, but I managed not to shoot myself in the foot with single-pin misses. My only opens until the third game were on splits, and I had the misfortune of chopping a fence type of spare in that game.

Result: 158-190-162=510
Average (78 games): 180
Average for last 9 games: 163
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 592

Composite average (165 games): 180

Ed was the only one of us over average, and team only won the second game.
