The scoring pace in the Patriots league this year has been stellar, but, except for the 900 series last month, tonight might have been the highlight of that league’s season. The biggest part of the night was Mikey Trent (Jr.), who threw his first 800 series with games of 246, 290, and 267 for an 803. Danny Khuu added a 300 game, and Jim Johnson and Rob Young both had 11 in a row 299 games. Congrats to all, and I’ll add video of Danny’s 300 if I get it.

Gary Weiner bowls 300, Melissa Gabriel 287 in Westgate Mixed
I’ve known him since just about a short time after I returned to bowling, and, tonight, it’s my pleasure to report that Gary Weiner threw his first 300 game in the Westgate Mixed league. One of his teammates, Lisa Lach, recorded the video below:
The game after Gary was perfect, Melissa Gabriel was on the verge of becoming the third woman to throw a 300 game at Westgate this season, but fell short on her 11th ball for a 287.
Congrats to both! 🙂
Mar. 18 league night recap
My Week 27 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)
I really only had it together in Game 2, with splits dogging me in the first game, and then losing my release in my last game. The one good game did prove enough to help me to another 500.
Result: 160-198-148=506
Average (81 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 173
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 559
The one good game was also the only game the team won, but it ended up being by enough for total.
Jim Andersen pretty much cleaned house in brackets last week, but I did make one final, beating Shawn in that to break even for the week.
Gary Warner posts 290 game in Westgate Mixed
While John Kunan was perfect, someone I knew first from outside of bowling (softball, actually), Gary Warner, also had a 290 game last week in the Westgate Mixed league. Congrats Gary! 🙂
Mar. 17 league standings update
After winning one point from Team 16, “Turkey Hunters” are now tied with “Ebony & Ivories” for 15th place, 9.5 points behind “Bowling Stones”, who lead “Y Not Us” by a point, “Sweet Rolls” by a point and a half, and “Knock Em Down” by 2.5 points. The “Bowl Pack” provides the opposition tomorrow night.
Keith Tantillo, Brian Egan shoot 290 games in Coke league
The Coke Classic league was quiet in the honor score department for the second third of the season, but the last third started tonight with some fireworks, as Keith Tantillo and Brian Egan had 290 games on the heels of each other. Good work, guys! 😀
Winter 2015 Week 9 virtual league results
“Diamond Flush 2.0” won five of the seven from Team 8, and are now in 5th place, 17 points behind Team 3, who are now 13 points ahead of “The Big Red One” and Team 4 (members “Bwlnggd”, “Doogie”, “explorer05”, “mmalsed”, and “slowdown”), who had a top three all-time team series last week, landing second on the list with a 3,385.
James Lawson, Mo Wideman bowl 300s in Rhythm & Bowling
The Boston Rhythm & Bowling league had been relatively quiet for high scores this year until today, when two bowlers, James Lawson and Mo Wideman, both bowled their first perfect games. Henry Webber got the last strikes of both games, and I’ll start with James Lawson’s:
And Mo Wideman’s:
Congrats to both of you! 😀
Shirley Major throws first 300 game in Patriots league
It seems Shirley Major has done it all in her Westgate Lanes career, including the old women’s Massachusetts state record of 817 in 1996, but she had never bowled a perfect game until tonight in the Patriots league. Jason Sherwood got the final three strikes of the game, and his video is below:
Congrats Shirley! 😀
John Kunan bowls 300 in Westgate Mixed
It’s been more than a couple of years since I could post about one of his scores, but I finally heard from John Kunan again tonight, with a 300 game in the Westgate Mixed league. Congrats John! 😀
Mar. 11 league night recap
My Week 26 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)
After spending the entire month of February under the 500 line, I seem to have come out of it. I was happy that I could put together more than a double on a couple of occasions tonight.
Result: 176-161-204=541
Average (78 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 564
Open frames in the 10th meant trouble tonight, as the opposing anchor struck out in the 10th in each of the first two games to take the points. The game I did close out well, we won.
There was also better news in brackets last week, as I beat Shawn and finished second to Fred Mellin in the other bracket for my $2 profit.
Christine Major bowls 288 game in His & Hers
It’s been a while since I’ve reported a score by a woman, but Christine Major had a fine 288 game tonight in the His & Hers league, and was just a pin shy of 700 for the night. WTG Christine! 😀
Mar. 10 league standings update
After winning three points from “Ebony & Ivories”, “Turkey Hunters” now sit in 15th place, 7.5 points behind “Bowling Stones”, who lead “Y Not Us” and “Spare Change” by a point and “Sweet Rolls” by a point and a half. Team 16 will be our opponents tomorrow night.
Winter 2015 Week 8 virtual league results
“Diamond Flush 2.0” could only manage two points in the rematch with Team 5, and are now in 6th, 15 points behind Team 3, who lead “The Big Red One” by six points and “The Chat Line” by eight.
Individually, “Fin09” of Team 3 had another 300, and “VampyreBowler” of Team 8 had a 290 game, the latter score which I alluded to in my Saturday night Facebook status (his real team set a new house record in Frederick, MD).
Darrell Pesta bowls 826, Bill Hill 804 in Patriots league
One would think that, after Hakim Emmanuel’s 900 series in the Patriots league two weeks ago, nearly everyone else in the league thinks they can shoot 800. Thursday night, two bowlers actually did: Darrell Pesta, with games of 267, 279, and 280 for an 826, and Bill Hill, with games of 269, 268, and 267 for an 804 and his first 800 series ever. Congrats to both! 😀
Mar. 6 North Bowl honor score note
Tonight, in the Friday Early Mixed league at North Bowl, Nate Abdow had a 299 game and Andy Nichols a 290 game. Ordinarily, I would only note the scores on the association’s Facebook page, but something unusual about these made them worthy of mention here: They were bowled by members of opposing teams (same pair) in the same game. Congrats guys! 🙂
Mar. 4 league night recap
My Week 25 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)
I made the decision tonight to play straighter up the track than I usually do, and the decision largely paid off. If not for three single pins on the left side that I hooked past, I had a night where I could have averaged 180, which is a far cry from my bowling of the last month.
Result: 160-173-181=514
Average (75 games): 165
Average for last 9 games: 159
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 526
One of the single pin misses was an 8 in the 10th frame of the second game, and missing that cost the team the second game, as we ended up losing the game by a pin. Team did win the other two games and total, as Barry had the best night on the pair (550).
Mar. 4 league standings update
After winning two points against “Knock Em Down”, “Turkey Hunters” stand in a four-way tie for 15th and will bowl against “Ebony & Ivories” in tonight’s position round. The deficit is eight points to the leaders, “Sweet Rolls”, who now lead “Bowling Stones” by a half-point, one over “The 508 Boys”, and 1.5 over “Spare Change”.
Peter Sands throws 290 game in His & Hers
Congrats to Peter Sands, with an 11 in a row 290 game tonight in the His & Hers league. 🙂
Emmanuel 900 series gets USBC nod
It didn’t take as much time as I thought it would, but an item that came up at my association’s board meeting today was that Hakim Emmanuel has received formal USBC approval of his 900 series. Congrats again, Hakim! 😀
Winter 2015 Week 7 virtual league results
Four points from “The Big Red One” left “Diamond Flush 2.0” 13 points behind the leaders, Team 3, who lead “The Big Red One” by six points and “The Chat Line” by seven. Individually, “Vannman” of “The Big Red One” submitted a set of scores that included a game in which he converted the 7-10 split, the first such instance in league history. The big split conversion helped him stay clean for the entire night.
2014-15 Coke league last third note
The Amateur Bowlers Tour (ABT) has returned to Westgate Lanes…sort of. While the ABT itself hasn’t returned to New England, the Coke league will be using one of their patterns, #3, for the last third of their season, the overhead graph of which you may find here. It’s a long (44′), relatively light volume (about 23 ml) pattern w/ about a 4.8:1 ratio.
Major 300, Thibeault 299 pace Westgate in junior travel league
I want to say that this was in the position round in the Southeastern Mass. Junior Scratch Travel league, but Stephen Major had a 300 game and Kevin Thibeault a 299 today at Holiday Lanes in Westport en route to winning the league for the third straight year. Congrats guys! 😀
Feb. 25 league night recap
My Week 24 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)
The first game looked like it might be the start of a repeat of last week, but I managed to stay clean until the 10th in the 2nd game. I threw away single pins, though, missing five of them tonight (all corner pins).
Result: 144-179-152=475
Average (72 games): 165
Average for last 9 games: 155
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 542
Barry had the best night on the pair tonight (591), but we got croaked in the third game for total after winning the first two.
February’s always been a tough month for me, it seems, but I hope the turn of the calendar will also be a turn of the corner.
Winter 2015 Week 6 virtual league results
This post is late because my timing was tight yesterday with having to leave for Coke league early…
“Diamond Flush 2.0” lost all seven to “Seven Wonders” and now stand in 6th place, 12 points behind Team 3, who lead “The Big Red One” by four points and “Seven Wonders” by seven points.
Plenty in the high score department this week: “Fin09” of Team 3 had a 300 game en route to an 808 series, which was the league’s first instance of the 300/800 feat. “trekguy” of Team 5 also had a 300 game, and “Fin09’s” 300 game helped his team to a 1,209 game, which is third all-time in the league.
Ryan Evans bowls 300 game in Auburn
As it turned out, Hakim Emmanuel was not the only Westgate bowler with a 300 game Thursday night. Coke league bowler Ryan Evans had one in the Thursday Knights league at his home center, AMF Auburn Lanes. Congrats Ryan! 🙂
Feb. 21 league standings update
After winning one point from “Sweet Rolls”, “Turkey Hunters” are in 16th place, 9.5 points behind “Bowling Stones”, who lead “Sweet Rolls” and “Oddballs” by 2.5 points. “Knock Em Down” provides the opposition in the coming week.
900 series Bowl.com follow-up
It’s already in the Bowl.com RSS feed in the sidebar, but I’ll also link here Matt Cannizzaro’s article on Hakim Emmanuel’s 900 series, which also has Jason Sherwood’s video, with the entire 30th frame.
EDIT: Hopefully, I can get Jason’s video to appear here. 🙂
Hakim Emmanuel bowls first perfect 900 series in Mass. history

History was made tonight in the Thursday Night Patriots league on Lanes 47 & 48 when Hakim Emmanuel, carrying a 217 average in the league into tonight’s action, bowled the first perfect 900 series in Massachusetts history and just the 27th in USBC history. Hakim used a Hammer Infrared Vibe XR drilled by Alex Aguiar at Strike F/X Pro Shops, and, as he told me over the phone, was standing on the 30 board looking third arrow. He said all he was thinking about was throwing three good shots in the 30th frame.
Danny Khuu did get the last strike recorded, which I’ll share below:
Congrats Hakim! 😀
Hamilton, Cook bowl 300, Esdale 290 in Westgate Mixed
The Westgate Mixed league’s night started with a familiar name, Bob Hamilton, going perfect, and ended with Paris Cook, who only joined the league last week, tacking on a 300 game of his own. Oh, by the way (imagine me doing my best Chris Berman impersonation), Dan Esdale also had the last 11 in a game tonight for 290.
Congrats all around! 😀
EDIT: Thanks to Danny Khuu, I have late video of both 300 games; going in order, Bob Hamilton:
And Paris Cook:
