Feb. 18 league night recap

My Week 23 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Tonight, it seemed for most of the night that I was snakebitten on one lane or the other. I had no marks on the left lane at all in the first game, and, when I seemed to find it on that lane, I started leaving frames open on the right lane in the second game. I sort of put it together in the last game, but still left a couple of frames open.

Result: 138-146-164=448
Average (69 games): 165
Average for last 9 games: 154
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 519

Barry had a 216 first game, which would be the only point we won.

Feb. 18 league standings update

“Turkey Hunters” are now shown in a tie for 16th place with “Creeks Mustangs”, eight points behind “Bowling Stones”, who lead “Y Not Us” by two points and “Knock Em Down” and “Sweet Rolls” (the latter team whom we’re bowling against tonight) by 2.5 points. Note: There was a scoring error affecting my team and is not properly reflected in the standings that we hope to resolve tonight.

My Week 22 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Tonight for me could be called A Tale of Two Games: As well as I bowled in the first game to get my 212, I may have bowled worse in the third game, a 109 with only two marks and no marks after the third frame. Seven splits were most of my problem, but everything just seemed “off” after the first game.

Result: 212-159-109=480
Average (66 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 168
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 538

Barry matched my bad third game with a bad game of his own, and we ended up splitting 2-2 after winning the first two games.

Winter 2015 Week 4 virtual league results

“Diamond Flush 2.0” could only win two points from Team 3, and we’re now tied for 3rd with Team 8, five points behind “The Big Red One”, who lead Team 3 by two points. Individually, “TimL”, one of the members of the team opposing us last week, shot a 298 game, which I was told was the first 290+ game in 27 years at his eight-lane wood center in South Dakota.

Feb. 8 league standings update

After winning all four points from “SR Spares”, “Turkey Hunters” moved up to a tie for 14th with Team 16 and “Anger Management”. “Bowling Stones” finally lost some points (1.5), but we remain behind that team by 8.5 points, and they lead “Spare Change” by three points and “The 508 Boys” by 3.5. We bowl against “Looking For Wood” Wednesday night.

How “sweep” it is

I hinted at what this post was going to be about when I said in my league recap that a “teaser” was going to be in my bracket profit/loss sheet, and can now actually reveal, after Shawn sent me last week’s brackets, that I had a clean sweep of the brackets I entered in a week for the first time. Two of the wins came against Barry, two against Fred Mellin, and the other against Liz DiBenedetto. Mike DiBenedetto beat Koniev Yoyo in the final of the only bracket I wasn’t in. Of course, a clean sweep meant a $20 profit for the week.

My Week 21 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I just couldn’t get out of my own way tonight. I left what seemed like a whole game’s worth of splits, and, when you’re doing that, there’s not much you can say except that it’s not your night.

Result: 149-150-167=466
Average (63 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 517

Fortunately, my bad night didn’t hurt my team, as Donald chipped in a 140 second game, and Barry was steady all night; team won all four.

There will be good news in brackets, which I will devote a separate post to once I receive a file from Shawn. A hint may be found later when I update my profit/loss worksheet. 😉

Feb. 2 league standings update

After winning one point from “Spare Change”, “Turkey Hunters” have slipped to the bottom of the second half standings, 10 points behind “Bowling Stones”, who have yet to lose a point three weeks into the half. They lead three teams, “Y Not Us”, “Spare Change”, and “Striking Gentlemen” by four points. We bowl against “SR Spares” Wednesday night.

My Week 20 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

This was no disgrace tonight, but I thought I bowled a little bit better than I scored, too. The main thing was that I closed my games well, and it’s often not how you start, but how you finish. The 6-7 in the second game was as tough a split as I’ve made in a while, as well.

Result: 202-194-175=571
Average (60 games): 167
Average for last 9 games: 173
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 545

As well as I bowled, we managed only one point on the night.

I’ve been having a few “dry” weeks in brackets, mostly due to poor first games, but I should be a threat in them this week.

Jan. 27 league standings update

After failing to win points from “Bowling Stones”, “Turkey Hunters” are now tied with “SR Spares” at the bottom of the standings. “Bowling Stones” have won all eight of their points so far in the second half, and they lead by two over a four-way tie involving “The Doables”, “No Names”, “The 508 Boys”, and “Knock Em Down”. With the storm, bowling tomorrow night is still in question, but “Spare Change” will be our next scheduled opponents.

Winter 2015 Week 2 virtual league results

“Diamond Flush 2.0” won four points from Team 8 and are now tied for 2nd with Team 3, three points behind “The Big Red One”. Individually, “RayRay”, a member of Team 5, posted a 290 game last week.

With a winter storm approaching, I might not know if I’m bowling until that afternoon, but, if my league is canceled, I do try to make it up that weekend for the virtual league, if I need to.

Jan. 20 league standings update

The one point we won from “No Names” put “Turkey Hunters” in a tie for 11th with seven other teams, led by “Oddballs” and “Striking Gentlemen”. “Y Not Us”, “Bowling Stones” (our opponents tomorrow night), and “Creeks Mustangs” were the teams winning all four points to start the second half.

Winter 2015 virtual league ramp-up

Meant to post this earlier in the weekend, but the new virtual league finds me as teammates with “6_ball_man”, “BOSStull”, “Smooth Stroker”, and “Vic44”, with “BOSStull” being the only teammate I’ve been with previously. Recycling a name I had when my virtual league’s team number was 6, the team’s name will be “Diamond Flush 2.0”, with 2.0 being the “version number” (To explain the logic, 6 is the atomic number of carbon, which, when under pressure, can become a diamond; flush can mean the poker hand of all diamonds, as well as how we hope to hit the pocket. 🙂 ).

Bruce Perry throws first honor score at Ryan Family Amusements

I usually don’t report on honor scores away from Westgate Lanes unless they involve Westgate bowlers, but, due to the notability of this one, I’m making an exception: Bruce Perry threw a 298 game in the NAAITL league Tuesday night at Ryan Family Amusements in Raynham, MA, which is the first honor score thrown in USBC-certified competition there since the center converted duckpin lanes into tenpin lanes in the summer of 2013. The league itself had been bowling at AMF Taunton Lanes, which closed last summer. One of the league’s officers, Steve Parmeggiani, told me on Facebook that Bruce only left a 7-10 split in the game.

Congrats Bruce! 🙂

Jan. 14 league night recap

My Week 18 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

One thing summed up my night tonight: I left the 7 a lot and missed it a lot. Oddly enough, however, I was dead perfect on all of my other single pins, including my 10. A couple of doubles covered up two open frames in the third game for my only decent one tonight.

Result: 142-160-189=491
Average (54 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 552

My good third game turned out to be the point we won tonight.
