Shane Litchfield throws first 700 series

I thought this worthy of an honor score mention because of his age: After turning 13 and graduating to the Junior division this season, Shane Litchfield today threw games of 211, 248, and 249 for a 708 series, his first 700 series. This has prompted me to wonder who the youngest bowler to throw a 700 series at Westgate Lanes was, and this point is currently under research.

Congrats Shane! 😀

2014 USBC Open Championships oil patterns

As the usual service to my readers, I will link below the two patterns (one for team, one for doubles & singles) for this year’s USBC Open Championships that were released today:

Team: 43′ length, 24.4 ml total oil, 2.65:1 ratio

Doubles & Singles: 40′ length, 26.062 ml total oil, 2.89:1 ratio

I know Junior wants to use the team event pattern next week for the Coke league, but the USBC is using the new Kegel Flex lane machine this year, so I don’t know how the pattern will be adapted for our older Ion machine.

Feb. 26 league night recap

My Week 23 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I thought I was OK through two, mostly because of the way I finished the second game, but then the wheels just fell off of the proverbial wagon.

Result: 157-189-144=490
Average (69 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 181
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 566

Team won all four, with the team winning the third game because everyone else picked me up, led by Berta with a 190 game.

Last week was a good one for brackets, where, after a dollar refund, I beat Carol Andersen and Steve Corradina in two of the brackets and came in second to Shawn and Ed Godino Jr. in the other two. The two brackets I won accounted for the black number.

Feb. 22 league standings update

After winning three points from “The Incredibowls”, “Snakes On A Lane” stand tied for 14th with “Nuckin Futs” and “WTF Over”, eight points behind “Bowling Stones”; their lead is by point over “We Split 4 No 1” (our opponents in the coming week), Team 16, and “Sweet Rolls”.

Feb. 19 league night recap

My Week 22 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

At the end of my night, I told Karen, my partner in the mixed doubles last weekend, about this and asked her where this was when I was bowling with her. I was mostly happy with how I bowled, and, while there’s always a clunker in the three with me, it seems, I did hit my +1 on the button. There was only one missed single pin (a 7), and I made both of my splits as well as a couple of washouts. I really just need to learn to relax when I bowl, because I do well when I’m relaxed.

Result: 226-192-163=581
Average (66 games): 176
Average for last 9 games: 182
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 597

It was a quick night, with two bowlers absent on both teams, and a vacancy on the other team, besides. Team took three of four, with Brian over average for all three games.

I should say I usually dread February, because not much good happens to me in that month, but my average has been trending up in the month this year rather than down, so I hope to carry this through the rest of the winter season.

Winter 2014 Week 6 virtual league results

“Tripped 4s” lost five of seven points to Team 1 despite setting a new league record for a five-man team series with 3,378. We now trail “6-Pack Abs” by 16 points and are in 5th place; the leaders have an 11 point lead on Team 1.

EDIT: Forgot to mention also that “BOSStull” of “Good Luck Bad Luck” submitted an 811 series this week, and “sk8shorty01” of Team 3 had a 290 game, in addition. The league at-large averaged close to 208 for the week.

Feb. 15 league standings update

After winning three of four from “Split Happens”, “Snakes On A Lane” are now tied for 17th place, nine points behind “Bowling Stones”, who are two points ahead of a three-way tie for second between “We Split 4 No 1”, Team 16, and “Sweet Rolls”. “The Incredibowls” will be my team’s opponents in the coming week.

Feb. 12 league night recap

Before bowling started tonight, the league voted to make up the missed week last week later in the season, but another weather cancellation would result in that week not being made up.

My Week 21 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I recognized early on that I was rushing through my bowling and trying to force it, but it took the rest of the first game for me to completely calm down. Once I did, however, I generally made better shots, and the scoring followed, particularly in the third game.

Result: 160-186-220=566
Average (63 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 175
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 581

It was a quick night, because Berta and Brian pre-bowled last week, not knowing whether we’d cancel for snow. Team took three of four after losing the first game by 51 pins.

I got a $1 refund from my brackets, but lost all four I was in. I recently also decided to calculate my profit/loss in Excel, reconstructing my bracket results from my league night posts. I will share the worksheet at the end of the season.

Pat Carrara posts perfect game in Coke league

Congrats to Pat Carrara on a 300 game tonight in the Coke league. I was there tonight, and saw the last strike, but didn’t have time to set up a shot with my cellphone. There was a good reason for this: I actually had a chance to run the brackets in the league tonight after having to back out of an opportunity earlier in the season for the last week of the fall virtual league. For a first time, things went fairly smoothly, but, wanting to keep my first time simple, I had to shut a couple of bowlers out after I filled ten brackets. Next time, I will acquaint myself with my bracket software’s refund features and will get everyone who wants in, in.

Winter 2014 Week 5 virtual league make-up

My make-up bowling for Week 5, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I suppose I could have just given up on the week and taken 10 off my average, but I’m not one to “mail it in.” There were just not enough strikes for me out there, and the spares I did miss were costly, as well. Still, it was a tall order, because my team needed me to shoot 214, 222, and 194 in each game to get to our team average, and that might have been asking too much today.

Feb. 5 cancellation note

I figured I should note here that, with a snowstorm having hit this morning, my league canceled for tonight. We probably won’t make up the night, but that leaves me without my regular virtual league score, so I plan on going in this weekend to get my virtual league bowling in for the week (it’s allowed under our rules).

Winter 2014 Week 4 virtual league results

“Tripped 4s” won only the third game from “The Ocho”, leaving us tied for third with them, six points behind “6-Pack Abs”, who increased their lead to three points over “Good Luck Bad Luck”.

A member of Team 1, “Rocket Jr”, submitted a 297 game last week. It should be noted that he’s a clean series machine, because I almost expect him to tell me he had 30-clean when he submits every week (and it was last week). And he’s still only a youth bowler. 😀

Feb. 2 league standings update

Failing to win points from “Bowling Stones” meant that “Snakes On A Lane” slipped into a tie for last place with “WTF Over” (Note: There has been an 18th team that joined the league to begin the second half.) and the sweep enabled “Bowling Stones” to take a one point lead over Team 16. My team bowls against “Split Happens” this week.

Peter Sands tosses perfecto in Patriots league

Congrats to Peter Sands, who threw a 300 game last night in the Patriots league. It should be noted that he bowls on a team in my summer league, and this is the first time I’ve mentioned one of that team’s (“Wyld Stallyns”) members individually. 😀

EDIT: This also happens to be my 2,000th post to this blog. If you’ve put up w/ me for all of those, I thank you. 😀

Jan. 29 league night recap

My Week 20 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

The third game had a kind of “too little, too late” feel to it, but some of that was my own doing w/ the single pin misses.

Result: 169-137-193=499
Average (60 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 179
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 556

Team lost three rather close games; I really needed the first strike in the 10th third game, but didn’t get it.

Jan. 22 league night recap

My Week 19 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Just not enough good shots tonight. The splits in the second game were pretty much my undoing, because if two of them were makeable spares, I probably had a chance to go over average again.

Result: 182-156-173=511
Average (57 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 180
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 530

Team lost all four, but an extra spare by us in the first and/or third games might have been the difference for the points, because each of those games was lost by ten or fewer pins.

Shawn refunded me $1 again, so there were only four brackets, one of which I won by beating Jo-Ann (who knocked me out of two of them in the second game) for a $1 profit.

Jan. 21 league standings update

Eight teams won only one point in the first week of the second half, but “Snakes on a Lane” stood on top of all of those by having the best pinfall, so, for the moment, we sit in 10th place. “Bowling Stones” was the only team that won all of their points to start the second half, so their lead is a point over eight teams.

“3 Plus 2” are tomorrow night’s opponents.

Winter 2014 Week 2 virtual league results

“Tripped 4s” took the lion’s share (five of seven) from “Live2Bowl”, and now stand in a tie for the lead with “Good Luck Bad Luck” (more on them later), a point ahead of both “Live2Bowl” and “6-Pack Abs”.

“Good Luck Bad Luck” had a league-history top three game (1,201, good for third all-time) and series (3,344, good for second all-time), but, surprisingly, the game was not helped by an honor score, even though “BOSStull” of that team shot a 299; the honor game for “BOSStull” came in the first game (the big team game was the third).

Jan. 15 league night recap

My Week 18 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I want more nights like tonight. I made a parallel 1-1 move inside to start the second game after coming in light late in the first game, and it not only got me more in the pocket, but also improved my carry. I didn’t have to make another move the rest of the night.

Result: 178-214-213=605
Average (54 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 181
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 573

We did make a team name change for the second half (to “Snakes On A Lane”). My teammates thought it might improve our luck, but we still only took one point tonight (second game), with Pat putting up a 410 (80 pins over average).

Last week, I made it through three brackets, but lost to Shawn in the third game in all three; it was still a $1 profit.
