Feb. 20 league night recap

My Week 25 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I finally had a decent game in the second game, which had so often been my undoing this season, and I thought I could build on that. A couple of missed single pins and a missed ball change (to my Marvel Pearl) later, however, I only had a night just over average.

Result: 170-203-157=530
Average (75 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 176
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 547

Carl and Berta were also both over average on the night, but it wasn’t enough, as we lost all four points.

Feb. 20 league standings update

After winning all four from “Bowling Stones,” “Spare Parts” moved up into a four-way tie for 6th place with “The 5 G’s,” “The Doables,” and “There’s 3 and 2” (listed in pinfall order, with my team being last in pinfall among those teams), seven points behind “Dee’s Boys III,” who are a point ahead of “The Incredibowls” and two ahead of “Split Happens” (my team’s opposition tonight).

My team happened to have the high handicap game of the week, and I had the third high scratch game in my division.

Sean Richard makes perfection a habit in His & Hers

I’ll say it, if no one else has: Sean Richard has been the hottest bowler at Westgate Lanes. The most recent case in point is his fourth 300 game of the season at Westgate Lanes tonight in the His & Hers league, to go along with three 800 series at Westgate and another 300 in the NAT in Gardner. “Seany Kash” also now has at least one honor score in each of his leagues this season except the Coke Classic League.

Congrats again! 😀

Winter 2013 Week 5 virtual league results

“The Four Stooges” won all seven points from “Don’t Look Ethel,” and are now in the league lead by a point over “X-Rated” and two over “Team 3.” We also had the high team game of the week with a 913 in the third game.

Two honor scores were submitted last week, an 803 series from “Dave800” and a 300 game from “Chuck.”

Feb. 13 league night recap

My Week 24 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I was suffering through one of those 24-hour bugs during my Coke league visit on Monday, but to look at my bowling in the first two games, you’d think I was still weak from it. I did manage to get things figured out for the third game, however, and a 218 saved my 500 night. I left more “garbage” than usual, including five splits, so my overall spare game suffered, but I was once again around 80% on my single pins, and it should be said that the 7 pin is no longer spooking me.

Result: 156-150-218=524
Average (72 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 174
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 552

Team won all four points again, including a third game in which we were over 1,100 with handicap. The second game got interesting at the end, but I told my teammates we’d be OK if I got the first strike in the 10th…and proceeded to get that strike.

Winter 2013 Week 4 virtual league results

“The Four Stooges” won a lion’s share five of seven points from “License To Strike,” and my virtual team is now in third place, sitting just four points behind “X-Rated” and a point behind Team 3.

“Joe Bowler” submitted just the fifth 800 series in history, an 804, which was the league’s first 800 series since “B Fury” (then my teammate) threw the league record of 824 just less than two years ago.

Feb. 6 league night recap

My Week 23 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I was largely happy with tonight, despite a couple of bad shots and a couple of bad breaks with the 7-9. I didn’t have many strikes, but I missed nothing really easy until a couple of single pins close to the end of the third game. However, I did make the single pin that counted most, the 10 in the 30th frame, for without that mark, my team would have lost the game; as it was, my team won by a single pin.

Result: 199-164-172=535
Average (69 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 173
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 551

We were pretty much assured the lion’s share by the time I got up for the last time in the night, but the clutch spare turned the night into a sweep for us. 😀

Winter 2013 Week 3 virtual league results

“The Four Stooges” won all seven points from “The Fifth Element” and moved up to third place in the standings, six points behind Team 3 and four points behind “X-Rated.” “Norm3v,” a member of Team 8, submitted a perfect game last week; he has had two career 300 games, and both have counted for the virtual league.

Feb. 3 league standings update

After winning three of four points from “The Girly Man,” “Spare Parts” stand in 14th place, eight points behind a tie for first between “Dee’s Boys III” and “The Incredibowls.” The tie for first is a point ahead of “Split Happens.” “The Mustangs,” who are immediately ahead of us, are this week’s opposition.

Jan. 30 league night recap

My Week 22 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

A bowling friend online in Florida, “sk8shorty01,” gave me a tip during the week on how to adjust for the second game, and it largely helped. I just couldn’t help myself from turning it. Some missed spares, particularly on the troublesome left side, didn’t help matters.

Result: 169-166-178=513
Average (66 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 165
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 561

As mediocre as I was, I outbowled the other team’s high-average sub. Team won first and third games and total by 13 pins for three points.

I’m penciled in for a lesson with Ray tomorrow, so we’ll see how that goes.

Jan. 30 league standings update

After failing to win a point against “Deadwood,” “Spare Parts” now stand in 14th place, eight points behind “The Incredibowls,” who lead by a point over “Dee’s Boys III,” “Angry Birds,” and “Split Happens.” “The Girly Man” provides our opposition tonight.

Jan. 23 league night recap

My Week 21 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I seem to keep missing the transition in the second game, as that has been the worst of my three games this season. Tonight, I didn’t know to pull my Marvel Pearl out until I left consecutive buckets. Did OK on single pins (a couple of missed 10s, but made five others), but my problems came with more than one pin on the deck.

Result: 202-130-177=509
Average (63 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 169
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 549

Team failed to win a point, losing total by over 300 pins. Berta was the only one over average in all three games.

Before bowling tonight, one of my league mates, Ralph Marple III (the son of my old summer league teammate) showed me the desk printout of his newest bowling accomplishment, an open bowling 300 game thrown yesterday at Boston Bowl. WTG! 😀

Jan. 22 league standings update

After winning a single point from “The Doables,” “Spare Parts” are now in a tie for 13th with “Deadwood” (our opponents tomorrow night), five points behind “Sweet Rolls,” who lead “Angry Birds” and “The Incredibowls” by a point two weeks into the second half.

Jan. 16 league night recap

My Week 20 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

It was a difficult night for adjustment tonight, as I wasn’t making much sense of my ball reaction, making it tough to decide what to do. The cause was likely an inconsistent release, as it showed in my spare game with my ball backing up on a number of my left side spares.

Result: 162-150-157=469
Average (60 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 165
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 533

Team won one point against our actual opponents, “The Doables.” Pat was the bright spot of the night, with two games in the 150s to go 82 over-average.

I felt it worthy to note here that Eileen, my former teammate, had both her first 200 game (213) and first 500 series (515) tonight. WTG! 😀

Jan. 16 league standings update

As noted earlier, “Spare Parts” took one point to start the second half, and “The Girly Man,” “Deadwood,” and “Heavy Metal” also won a single point, with my team having the pinfall edge (the tie is for 10th). “Split Happens,” “The Mustangs,” and “Kickin Ass” were the teams that won all four this week. “The Incredibowls” provide our opposition tonight.

Winter 2013 virtual league ramp-up

The winter virtual league session has begun, and I find myself again on the team numbered 4. My teammates this time are “dgordon0408,” “mmalsed,” and “slowdown.” The team took my suggestion of the name, “The Four Stooges,” a nod to a team name from one of my first leagues. It’ll be a sprint, as I only announced a ten-week schedule for the league.

Jan. 15 note

I wanted to briefly mention for the blog that I finally committed to spending an entire evening watching the Coke Classic League action last night. As I’ve usually only been around unofficial practice, and then bugged out when the lanes are turned on for official practice, it was a good night for putting names to faces of everyone in the league that I didn’t really know. I am contemplating joining the league next year, but I’ll have to see where my finances are this summer (I’m also contemplating a Vegas trip for the WTBA World Championships in August, but that’s a longer shot.).

Jan. 9 league night recap

My Week 19 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

As noted in the BowlSK comment, I made an adjustment outside of my comfort zone that helped: Moving out a bit and throwing the ball with less axis rotation. It was a good spare game night, too, as most of the spares I missed were tougher ones.

Result: 176-191-182=549
Average (57 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 175
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 537

I had the last four strikes in the second game to win the point for my team, our only one of the night.

Jan. 9 league standings update

Because only one game was forfeited last week, I wasn’t sure how the points would work out, but I can say now that “Spare Parts” won the point for series total despite losing the forfeited game and two actual games. The result was that we ended in 10th place, 14 points behind “Dee’s Boys III,” the winners of the first half. The second half starts for us tonight against “Angry Birds.”
