Dec. 2015 year-end SEMBA results
With the Senior Eastern Mass. Bowling Association ending up guaranteeing $1,000 for first place, there were 19 entries, with 10 cashing, who are the following (with final scores, 30 bonus pins for winning in match play):

Hy Bao wins Dec. 6 Bay State Open

The Bay State Open reported on their Facebook page that Hy Bao was the winner of the event held on Dec. 6 at Westgate Lanes. Hy Bao defeated Tim Major by a score of 216/258 to 199/214 in the final match. Jon Hester, Matt Richard, and Mark Zimmerman were the other Westgate bowlers who cashed.
Brockton USBC BA Championships set for Jan. 30-31
The Brockton USBC BA will conduct its 53rd annual championship tournament on Jan. 30 & 31 at Westgate Lanes. An entry form is available online here and also available on the association website and via a link on the Facebook event created for the tournament. Mail-in entries will close on Jan. 18, but walk-ins and re-entries are permitted, based on lane availability. The tournament is open to USBC members, with members who are not already Brockton Bowling Association members able to enter by paying the local association dues ($7).

Nov. 29 No-Tap Shootout results
Junior announced a change in the strike jackpot structure this week, with five no-tap strikes (not natural) in a row now getting 40% of the jackpot, six in a row 60%, and seven in a row 80%. This will be subject to change, but, as will be noted below, it did work well.

During the shootout, TomTom got six no-tap strikes in a row for $1,134, and Al Donato later got five in a row, with Junior making the payout an even $300 for him.

Tyrone Thornton & Jazz Israel win doubles in TNBA regional
The TNBA reported that Coke league bowlers Tyrone Thornton and Yoron “Jazz” Israel (the latter whom is just a sub in the league right now) were the winners of the men’s handicap doubles event at the recent TNBA Eastern regional tournament, which was held at ABC North Lanes in Harrisburg, PA. The pair shot 1,193 scratch for a 1,466 handicap total in the event.

Sean Richard posts 300, 299 in Greater Boston city tournament
The Brockton Bowling Association will not have its city tournament until later in the season (it’s soon, though), but “$eany Ka$h” didn’t have to wait to post scores in an association tournament, as he had a 300 game in singles and a 299 game in doubles today in the Greater Boston city tournament at Town Line Luxury Lanes in Malden. Congrats! 🙂

I want to note that, along with the usual Westgate bowlers, North Bowl had a good contingent present today, and Hunter Moore, the youth bowler on Rose Hamilton’s team, bowls out of Wonder Bowl. I know Marcia appreciated the participation from other houses today, so thanks to Rose for getting the word out about our Adult/Junior tournaments. 🙂
2015 Mass. women’s state senior tournament results
The Massachusetts USBC Women’s Bowling Association has posted results of this year’s women’s state senior tournament (PDF file linked), conducted last month at Cove Lanes in Great Barrington. The state champions were Patricia Noyce, representing the Worcester County association, in Class I (65 & over) and Karen Umbrello, also representing Worcester County, in Class II (50-64). Patricia Sweeney (3rd) and Doris Woods (6th), representing Tri-City, also placed in Class I.

Nov. 2015 Adult/Junior scheduling note
I was late finding this out, but the Adult/Junior doubles tournament that I thought was going to be today was rescheduled for next Saturday (Nov. 21), so I’ll will add the new date to the calendar.
2015 Mass. state youth singles tournament results
The Massachusetts USBC Youth Association has posted the results of their annual singles tournament (PDF file), held last Sunday at AMF Auburn Lanes. I’ll note the division winners below (all divisions competed with handicap except for scratch):

The Massachusetts state association has posted results of the 2015 state senior tournament, held recently at Greylock Bowl & Golf in North Adams. I’ll note the champions below (scores are with handicap):

Brian Egan wins 2015 Brockton BA Bowler of the Year

Danny Khuu, the defending Brockton Bowling Association Bowler of the Year tournament champion, was in prime position to defend after becoming the top seed in the stepladder in this year’s edition today at North Bowl Lanes, but, in the end, Brian Egan needed a double in the 10th frame to win and got the two strikes, becoming the newest Bowler of the Year champion. Stepladder results follow below:

AJ Voisine & Danny Khuu win NAT doubles at Westgate

The Northeast Amateur Tournament reported on their Facebook page that AJ Voisine and Danny Khuu were the winners of the doubles event held today at Westgate Lanes, defeating the father-son team of Bert & Jeff Santos, 1082-996, with handicap, in the two game final match.
Also, Matt Senay, bowling out of Lowell, posted a 300 game during qualifying, with AJ adding a 297 game in the round, and Danny Khuu bowling a 290 game in an earlier round of the head-to-head finals.

2015 UBA Westgate schedule change note
For anyone planning their bowling for Westgate’s UBA weekend on Dec. 5 & 6, please be advised that the UBA matches have been rescheduled for that Sunday at 1 PM. As a result, the NAT and the Bay State Open have also swapped dates, with the NAT scheduled for Saturday with a 1:15 PM first squad time, and the Bay State Open running at 3 PM Sunday following the UBA matches.
Sean Richard wins back-to-back Bay State Open titles in Malden
The Bay State Open announced on their Facebook page that Sean Richard made it back-to-back singles titles with his third overall title Sunday at Town Line Luxury Lanes. Sean defeated Marc Braunstein, 218-175 (with handicap), in the final match.
Oct. 10 No-Tap Shootout results
Kevin Thibeault won today’s no-tap shootout with an 844 score, with Kris Higgins’ 840 good for second and Adam Johndrow’s 808 third. There were 18 entries. Neither jackpot was hit, with Junior adding money to the 900 series jackpot to make the initial amount $100.
No-Tap Shootout adds optional 900 jackpot
For Saturday’s no-tap shootout, a $5 optional jackpot will be introduced, which will be won with a 900 no-tap series; however, three natural strikes must be bowled in the 10th frame of the third game to win it. We hope to see you.
Oct. 3 No-Tap Shootout results
With a field of only seven bowlers today in the no-tap shootout, Adam Johndrow placed first with a score of 815, while Kevin Thibeault and James Lawson tied for second with 809 (they decided to split the second place money rather than bowl a tiebreaker).
“Mr. 900” wins NAT at Town Line

The Northeast Amateur Tournament reported on their Facebook page today that “Mr. 900” Hakim Emmanuel won the event at Town Line Luxury Lanes in Malden, defeating Bill Sheehey (who my readers know I know from the BowlingCommunity forums), 578-554 (with handicap), in the two-game final match.
Bill happened to throw his third 300 game during qualifying, so congrats to both Hakim and Bill. 🙂
No-tap shootout set for Oct. 3
The no-tap shootout tournaments will resume for the season on Oct. 3, with the no-tap strike jackpot now at $1,405, which is won by throwing seven no-tap (not natural) strikes in a row in the same game. We hope to see you there.
Chuck Paige II wins NAT doubles at Strikers East

The Northeast Amateur Tournament reported on their Facebook page that Chuck Paige II and his partner Jim Handy won the doubles event held on Sept. 20 at Strikers East in Raymond, NH, defeating Sean Richard and Danny Khuu, 974-961 (with handicap), in the two-game final match.

Tina Gannon wins RI Ladies Classic in Cranston

The RI Ladies Classic reported that Coke league bowler Tina Gannon won her first title in the season-opening event today at AMF Cranston Lanes after defeating Shaunna Varin 274-221 (with handicap). Tina came close to the RI Ladies Classic’s second 300 game in its four-year history in the title match by throwing the front nine.
2015 Brockton BA Bowler of the Year set for Nov. 1 at North Bowl
The Brockton Bowling Association has noted on their website (in the upcoming events) that the 2015 Bowler of the Year tournament will take place on Nov. 1 at North Bowl Lanes. Qualifiers will be mailed entry details by the end of the month, and you may see the qualifying criteria on this page, but please note that, rather than city tournament, Brockton Bowling Association members who cashed in the state tournament are qualifiers.
2015 state senior tournament information
Both state senior tournaments for this year will take place on Oct. 24 & 25, with the men’s tournament at Greylock Bowl & Golf in N. Adams and the women’s tournament at Cove Lanes in Great Barrington. Both tournaments are open to bowlers age 50 and over, and are six games over two squads. Entry flyers are at bowling centers statewide.
Brian Egan wins 2nd NEBA title at Town Line

The New England Bowlers Association reported on their Facebook page that Westgate bowler Brian Egan won his second NEBA title tonight at Town Line Luxury Lanes in Malden after defeating Dave Kipperman, 40-27, in a 9th and 10th frame roll-off after a 204 tie in the final match.

Ed Roberts wins PBA60 regional event in NC
Over the years, Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Ed Roberts has won a number of tournaments at nearly every level. One thing he hadn’t done, however, was win a tournament in the PBA.
That changed on Sept. 5, however, when he won the PBA60 Wilson & Son Pest Control Super Senior South Open at George Pappas Victory Lanes in Mooresville, NC. As the linked results page shows, he qualified 15th with a +138 (eight games) and went through the match play bracket, defeating Roy Buckley 257-219, 214-276, 228-217 in the best-of-three final match. The tournament was contested on the regional Carmen Salvino pattern.

Sean Richard wins Bay State Open in Woonsocket
The Bay State Open posted about their event yesterday at Walnut Hill Bowl in Woonsocket, RI, where the winner was Sean Richard, defeating Randal Dunbar by a 234-223 score (with handicap) in the final match. The video is below:
Sean Richard also had a 296 game in qualifying, and he and Danny Khuu both had 300 games during the head-to-head finals.
