The high series to date at Westgate Lanes this season was thrown tonight by Bob Hamilton in the Westgate Mixed league, with games of 267, 267, and 300 for an 834. Also, earlier in the night, Ed Alfieri had a perfect game of his own. Congrats to both! 😀
EDIT: Thanks to Bob Hamilton’s daughter, Stephanie, we have a video of Ed Alfieri’s 300 below. You won’t see a better break for a 300 game than this. 😉
Not many women at Westgate Lanes have bowled a 300 game in our history (Five previously: Sue Sutter {unsanctioned}, Kris Voss, Tina Gannon {see note in comments}, Jessica Lowe, and Melissa Peterson), but Sandi Litchfield joined that club tonight with her first perfect game in the second game of the Westgate Mixed league. She actually had a shot at the women’s state record after a 277 first game and needed to double in the 10th third game to have a chance at an 800 set, but she finished with a 218 for a 795.
Way to go again, Sandi! 😀
Steve Sousa’s video of Sandi’s last strike is below:
I’m usually at least around Westgate Lanes for tournaments, but opted not to go today for the People’s Tournament because I wanted to watch the finals of the Brunswick Euro Challenge (which was streaming on BowlingDigital.com), but Tom Hedding, through a post of the video on Facebook, indirectly informed me that Tina Gannon shot a 300 game today in defense of her title from last month. I’ll have to get TomTom’s permission on the video again before I upload it to YouTube and post it here.
Congrats Tina! 😀
Note: The results will, of course, wait for the tournament to post them on their website.
EDIT: As promised (and it was just waiting for the go-ahead from TomTom), the video of Tina’s final strike:
I’m not sure, but Tina may now be the first woman with two 300 games at Westgate Lanes.
Congrats to Rich Fulton with games of 287, 257, and 256 for an even 800 series tonight in the Coke league. It was the first 800 series in the league since Matt Yandek’s 801 on Mar. 21, 2011. I got video of the last two shots (Rich had the first strike in the last frame as I started the camera.), and it’s below, but those friends of Sean Richard (one of Rich’s teammates in the league) on Facebook can see a better quality video on his timeline.
Getting permission from both Jason Hebert and Jim Lovewell (the latter through the former), I’ve uploaded Jason’s video of the last two shots of Jim’s state record to YouTube and embedded it below:
True Amateur Tournaments reported Alex Aguiar as the champion of the 2014 TAT Roto Grip Amateur Nationals this past week at the Orleans in Las Vegas. In the final match, Aguiar posted a 247 score, followed by Angel Hernandez with 232, Steve Calyore with 190, John Daly with 175, and Brian Dennis with 162 (A bowler in the handicap division was part of the finals, but did not receive handicap.). A live stream of the finals was done on Saturday by Inside Bowling, and the archive of it is below.
I hadn’t seen it on their site, but, now that I found it via Facebook, here’s the video of the title match of last month’s People’s Tournament, won by Paul Loberman over AJ Voisine:
Congrats to Adam Johndrow on his first career 300 game, thrown tonight in the Thursday Handicap Doubles league. The last strike of the game, as recorded by Tom “TomTom” Hedding, is below:
I finally saw the videos for the championship matches of the two NEBA events (the regular one and the senior event, courtesy of NEBA) at Westgate Lanes last November posted. I’ll present the senior event (Tony Reynaud v. John Camara) first:
And the regular event (Steve Wagoner v. Rich Fulton):
Both videos have been edited to remove the “dead space” and are about eight minutes each in length.
Congrats to Ryan Evans, with the second 300 game of the Coke Classic league season tonight. I did manage to get this one on my phone, and it’s embedded below. 😀
Congratulations to Tony Reynaud on winning today’s senior NEBA event at Westgate Lanes, defeating John Camara 238-200 in the title match. I thought this tournament might have also been on the pattern chosen for the open tournament, but the senior tournament was on the Westgate Lanes house shot. Tony’s photo is on NEBA’s Facebook page, for anyone interested.
There were also two perfect games thrown in the senior tournament, one by John Kirker during qualifying and the other by Ralph Dahlgren during match play. I missed getting video of Kirker’s 300, but I did get Dahlgren’s, which is below:
As for the first squad of the open tournament, there weren’t any scores that were too crazy, but I believe Rich Fulton and Brian Egan from Westgate Lanes made the squad cut, so they’ll be back tomorrow for match play. Good work, guys! 😀
This is one of those occasions where I expand the local scope of this blog to post about something big that happened in New England…
The USBC reported that James Williams of Pawcatuck, CT threw, if approved, the 22nd sanctioned 900 series in USBC history last night in the South County Classic league at Old Mountain Lanes in Wakefield, RI. In his 30th frame, a 4 pin fell late first, followed by a late 10, then an memorable light mixer to cement Williams’ place in bowling history. Williams has averaged better than 240 on several occasions and has 31 300 games and 20 800 series since the 2001-02 season, according to his Bowl.com member information.
Congrats! 😀
EDIT: Below is the cellphone video of the last three strikes.
The People’s Tournament reported Nicholas Roppo III (AMF Silver Lanes {CT}, 161 avg.) as the winner of the event held on Mar. 23 & 24 at Westgate Lanes, defeating Neal LeBaron (AMF Silver Lanes, 195 avg.) by a score (with handicap) of 240-228 in the final match. Westgate Lanes bowlers among the cashers were Sam Kamel (190 avg.), Reynard Epps (155 avg.), Al Rue (177 avg.), Keith Tantillo (200 avg.), Bill Kempton (185 avg.), Al Donato (195 avg.), Louis Lam (176 avg.), Alex Major (196 avg.), Brian Alleyne (175 avg.), and Dennis Johnson (183 avg.). While officially representing Town Line Ten Pin, David Chalifoux (206 avg.) from the Coke league also cashed.
To follow up on an earlier post, Cambridge 2, with Coke league bowlers David Chalifoux, Stephen Dale Jr., and Brian Gaskill, were in 42nd place in Regular Team at the 2013 USBC Open Championships at the time of this posting, and Cambridge 1 moved into 4th place Saturday night, with Bill Webb posting a 785 set to lead the team.
The 2012-13 bowling season at Westgate Lanes has been the year of Sean Richard, and he added to his highlights of the season today with his 41st career perfect game in the last game of his singles event in the association tournament. I knew it was only going to be a matter of time before I got video of one of his perfectos, and it’s below:
Sean told me it was his first honor score in the city tournament, so it’s safe to say he’ll remember this for a while. 😉
The People’s Tournament reported Edward Hoefler (AMF Taunton Lanes, 170 avg.) as the winner of the event held on Jan. 19 and 20 at Westgate Lanes. Hoefler defeated Hakim Emmanuel (Westgate Lanes, 191 avg.) by a score of 244-234 (with handicaps) in the title match. For the other Westgate Lanes bowlers, Jim Ferguson (204 avg.) was also in the semifinals, and Sam Kamel (190 avg.) was also in the top 8.
For the first time, the People’s Tournament posted video of the championship match, and you can watch it here below.
Congrats to Jason Sherwood on a 300 game tonight in the Patriots league. The original video below was shot by his teammate, Jason Oh, but I uploaded to my YouTube account to take advantage of the site’s image stabilization.
Congrats to R.J. Martinez, who had the third 300 game of this weekend’s NEBA tournament during the 12:30 qualifying squad today. The last strike is shown below.
Many of my readers already know who won, but my post of the results will be awaiting NEBA’s video of the title match.
The highlight of tonight’s 6 PM NEBA tournament squad was a pair of 300 games, the second and last games of the five game qualifying block, thrown by Alex Aguiar. The video I got of the last strike of the first 300 game is below (The original video was shaky, but has been corrected by YouTube, for the most part.):
Alex did something different this year: He uploaded the “highlight” video to YouTube, and I’m going to try to embed it here…
Alex has a great sense of humor, and the opening gag based on Ralphie’s hats was too good to pass up. You’ll even see me crushing the pocket, for a change…I was wearing a gray sweatshirt that night, and you’ll see me turn to the camera at the end.
Congrats to “Tom Tom” Hedding on a 300 game tonight in the Brockton Ten Pin League. Again, we have video of his last strike courtesy of Adam Johndrow, embedded below:
Congrats to John Mayo on his second 300 game of the season in the Thursday Night Patriots league. This time, Adam Johndrow got video of the last strike, which, after minor fixes, I’ve uploaded to YouTube and embedded below. 😀
The USBC has been running video features on their new BowlTV YouTube channel about this year’s inductees into the USBC Hall of Fame. This week’s feature is about Al Uttecht, who has been posted about here previously, so I’m sharing it here.
The administrivia for this post is that I’ve decided to widen the scope of the “Videos” post category to include all posts with video content from any source, and two previous posts (about two-handers Jason Belmonte and Osku Palermaa) have had the category added.
NEBA has reported that Alex Aguiar of the Tuesday Scratch Sportsmen League won his 9th NEBA title last weekend at AMF Silver Lanes in E. Hartford, CT. Keith Tantillo of the Coke Classic League also cashed in the event. In addition, Sean Richard won the non-casher high game prize and Ed Roberts the senior prize.
NEBA’s homepage (linked above) has a full recap of the event, with links to the match play results and YouTube video of the championship match.
Congrats guys! 😀
EDIT: If NEBA allows embedding on their videos, you can also watch the championship match below.
As I hinted at in my last post, I also brought my pocket camcorder and tripod with me to practice and got some video. I did most of the shooting in the second game, but sort of struggled with my balance, so I worked on that, then got a shot in the last frame. My shot shown below is probably not “perfect” (though my release was a bit better, I think, than in the video I showed “CoachJim” many weeks ago), but I’m only posting it to give my readers an idea of how I’m playing the lanes, on the house shot, these days.
Those wanting a download can watch on YouTube, reload it by making the host read http://www.kickyoutube.com, and it will allow you you download it as an MP4 (which is the format I uploaded it as, anyway).
