2014 Mass. state tournament notes

With information on all three state tournaments for 2014 having been posted, I can now note the important dates:

  • The open tournament will be held weekends from Apr. 26 through May 18 at Brunswick Lowell Lanes, with an entry flyer available online from the Greater Lowell Bowling Association (link is to Word document). Mail-in entries will close Apr. 13.
  • The women’s tournament will be held weekends from May 3 through June 1 (with the exception of Memorial Day weekend) at Cove Lanes in Great Barrington, with an entry flyer available online from the state women’s association (link is to PDF). Entries close on Apr. 1.
  • The youth tournament will take place weekends from Apr. 26 through May 4 at AMF Town & Country Lanes in Shrewsbury. I’m sure Rose Hamilton will be on top of it, but entries for that tournament close Feb. 24.

Good luck & good bowling to everyone participating in the state tournaments.

Cindy Cabral wins women’s singles title at TNBA regional tournament

The TNBA reported that Cindy Cabral of Dorchester, MA, who bowls at Westgate Lanes in the Boston Rhythm & Bowling and BBIS leagues, was the women’s handicap singles champion at the TNBA Eastern Regional tournament, held on Nov. 9 & 10 at Brunswick Zone Carolier in N. Brunswick, NJ. Cindy threw a 621 scratch series for a 777 handicap score. Other Westgate Lanes bowlers did well in the tournament, so it is suggested to check the results index for links to the event results.

Nov. 12 league standings update (with additional note)

After failing to win points from “The Dynasty Is Back”, “Crazy Eights” fell into a tie for 14th place with “WTF Over”, 13 points behind Team 16, who are 2 1/2 points ahead of “Anger Management” and three points ahead of “The Mustangs”. Due to a shift in the schedule because of teams being added to the league, we bowl “Anger Management” for a second time in the first half tomorrrow night.

Tri-City raffle note: The Tri-City WBA will run their annual Christmas dinner basket raffle (the basket includes a supermarket gift card for the ham or turkey) from Nov. 17 to Dec. 17 (drawing on the last day), and will benefit the Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL). Tickets are $1 each, and can be purchased from any Tri-City board member or at the desk (For the Kingston bowlers reading this, raffle tickets will also be available at the desk there.).

Chris Major throws 11 in a row 290 in His & Hers

Congrats to Chris Major on her 11 in a row 290 game tonight in the His & Hers league, and it’s been posted on the Brockton Bowling Association Facebook page; as some of you are aware, I’ve been gradually shading the page to include news about the women and youth bowlers in the association’s centers. 😀

EDIT: Chris’s first two games were a 234 and a 193 for a 717 set. Congrats again! 😀

Melissa Peterson rolls first 300; Sandi Litchfield throws 279

It was “Ladies’ Night” in the Westgate Mixed league tonight. First off, in the second game, Sandi Litchfield left a 10 pin standing (making the spare) with the rest strikes for a 279 game. However, the night belonged to Melissa Peterson, who, in the third game, rolled her first perfect game. This was a game I could have had video of, but I noticed the game too late to get set up with my phone.

Congrats to both Melissa and Sandi! 😀

Dec. 2 league standings update

After losing all four points, “Spare Parts” fell to 4th place, five points behind “Dee’s Boys III,” who lead both “Sweet Rolls” and “Split Happens” by four points. My team has a chance to close ground on the lead, as we have “Dee’s Boys III” as opponents in the coming week.

Virtual league note: The virtual league was given Thanksgiving week “off,” so scoring in that league resumed this week. I will have the usual results post tomorrow.

Tri-City tournament note: The Tri-City Women’s Bowling Association’s city tournament scheduled for this weekend at Westgate Lanes was canceled.
