Stephen Major wins Youth Sport Singles Challenge

Congrats to Stephen Major for winning the fourth Youth Sport Singles Challenge, held at Cove Lanes in Great Barrington, MA. The format was similar to a Masters competition at a World Championships, particularly where the lane condition is concerned, as the WTBA Paris pattern was on the left lane of a pair and Sydney on the right. Stephen defeated Andrew Hall by a score of 401-352 in the two game final match.

The Mass. USBC Youth Association ran two tournaments recently at Wonder Bowl, the annual state Pepsi tournament on Apr. 11, and the spring singles tournament the following day. In the former (link is to official results), Isabella Reyes won the U10 girls division, and in the latter, Ethan Reyes won the U15 boys division (competition in the spring singles tournament was based on handicap scores).

Congrats to both. 🙂

Youth doubles league to run Friday nights in summer

For the older youth bowlers, a Friday night doubles league will begin on June 5 and run for 12 weeks. The league will bowl four games per night on three Kegel (Recreation series) patterns (changing every four weeks) and use a modified match point system, as follows:

  • 1 point for individual game
  • 2 points for individual total
  • 2 points for team game
  • 5 points for team total

Note: The above means 25 possible points/night

Cost is $15/week for each bowler, with $7.50 going each for lineage and prizes (gift cards or sweatshirts, to be voted on).

Anyone with questions may see Stephen Major when he is at Westgate Lanes.

Aaron Major bowls 2nd 800 of season in Junior King of the Hill

A tournament I’ve kept quiet about until now is a King of the Hill tournament youth coach Keith Kaestner has been running for the junior bowlers here, and in yesterday’s installment, Aaron Major followed up 258 and 264 qualifying games with a 279 game in his first stepladder match for an 801 series, his second 800 series of the season. WTG Aaron! 😀

2013-14 state youth association awards follow-up

Following up on my earlier report about Shane Litchfield’s high series state award, Rose Hamilton has forwarded me a list of other Westgate youth bowlers who have earned state association awards for last season, as follows:

High Major/Senior Boys Average: Kevin Thibeault 224
High Prep Boys Average: Ethan Reyes 173
High Bantam Boys Series: Dylan Major 454
High Bantam Boys Game: Corey Major, James Theriault 173

Kevin, as well as Stephen Major, have also earned special awards for their respective 300 games during the season.

Congrats to all! 🙂

Shane Litchfield gets high series in state

I reported on it when he shot it, but Shane Litchfield yesterday was notified that he officially had the high junior boys series in the state last season with his 708. He has been invited to the opening ceremonies of the Mass. USBC Youth Association state tournament in April to receive his award. Good job, Shane! 🙂

Kevin Thibeault throws 300 in Tuesday Scratch Sportsmen

Technically, Kevin Thibeault is still a youth bowler, but, because he signed a waiver with the USBC in order to do so, could compete in the Tuesday Scratch Sportsmen league, an adult singles league (and singles leagues are the only adult leagues a youth bowler can compete in via the waiver process), and, tonight, he had his 6th career 300 game tonight in the league. Danny Khuu got video of the final two shots of the game, which I’ve uploaded to YouTube and have embedded below:

The lane condition for the league tonight was WTBA Los Angeles.

Congrats Kevin! 😀

Dec. 2014 Junior Bowling Sport Challenge results

Thank you to everyone who came out today for the tournament. 🙂

Kevin Thibeault wins Junior Bowling Sport Challenge at Westgate

Congrats to Kevin Thibeault, who won the under-20 division of yesterday’s Junior Bowling Sport Challenge at Westgate Lanes. In his final match, Kevin tied Nick Flake with a 195 score, then won a four-frame roll-off 55-51. In addition to Kevin and Nick, Rachel Bamford (U15) and Sam Blanchette (U12) qualified for Junior Gold, and I’m going to assume Rachel won the U15 scholarship division unless I hear otherwise. The tournament was contested on the WTBA Los Angeles pattern.
