Congrats to Kevin Thibeault, who threw his first ever 300 game today in the youth travel league at AMF Holiday Lanes in Somerset. 😀

2011 state youth tournament results
The results of the state youth championship tournament held at Westgate Lanes the previous three weekends are now available here. Because of all of the events (including all-events) for many average divisions, for brevity’s sake, I’ll only list the champions from Westgate Lanes here:
60 & under all-events, handicapped: Jessie Hanning (2,172)
60 & under singles, handicapped: Alexi Wallace (737)
81-100 singles, handicapped: Corey Marvel (761)
120 & under doubles, handicapped: Anna Blyth & Cameron Kaestner (1,453)
161-200 doubles, scratch: Abigail Murphy & Kyle Major (755)
Congrats to all of Westgate Lanes’ state champions this year. 😀
“Quick-hitter” at state youth tournament
I don’t usually blog about my non-bowling visits to my center these days, but felt I had to note something about my trip there on the first day of the 2011 state youth tournament. Ray at one point called me over when he had sight of me and pointed to me a six year old, who I was told bowls out of Ken’s Bowl in Pittsfield, where the state open tournament is this year. He had what Ray termed “unbelieveable form for his age,” taking six steps to the line like Norm Duke and even getting a little hook out of a very light ball. Ray also gave me an opportunity to have a few words with the boy’s father, which I kept brief because I was due to catch the bus home.
I may have just seen the future of tenpin bowling in New England. 😀
Andrew Anderson shoots 299 in Westgate Lanes youth league action
Congrats to Andrew Anderson, who was just a pin away from a perfect game Saturday morning in the Senior division of the youth league. 😀
March 2011 Northeast Junior Scratch Tour at Westgate Lanes
I’m going to list the winners below, followed by a wrap-up of qualifying. As not all of the divisions had stepladder match play, the note next to each winner will include either their six-game qualifying total or the result of the title match if there was match play.
Prep: Nick Flake (1,147)
Junior Boys: Kevin Thibeault (1,257)
Major: Joshua Regnier (def. Shane Holt 237-197)
Girls: Catherine Bell (def. Jadee Scott-Jones 224-212)
Collegiate: Joe Mello (def. Ryan Graywacz 216-215)
In qualifying, Shane Holt had a perfect 300 game, and Jadee Scott-Jones had a high game of 275.
2011 state championship tournament notes
This post is too late for the entry deadlines for these tournaments, but I thought I’d note where the state championship tournaments are this year with those tournaments approaching competition dates:
- The open state championship tournament will be held at Ken’s Bowl in Pittsfield.
- The women’s state championship tournament will be held at AMF Auburn Lanes in Auburn.
- Westgate Lanes will host the state youth championships on weekends beginning April 30 and ending on May 15.
I’m not sure where results for any of these tournaments will be online (I know Pittsfield’s local association isn’t online, and I don’t know if the women in Auburn have a separate association.), but the youth tournament may be on the state youth association’s site, which I have found and will add a link for to the sidebar.

Handicap is 80% of 220; entry fee is $25 and entries will be taken on a walk-in basis.
March 2011 Westgate Lanes youth tournament notes
Although I’d like especially to keep my readers informed of youth events at Westgate Lanes, I often don’t hear about these until it’s too late, so pardon me if the first note had no advance notice.

Kevin Thibeault throws 11 in a row in youth league
Congrats to Kevin Thibeault, who I believe posted his first career honor score last Saturday in the Senior division of the Saturday morning youth league with an 11 in a row 290 game, which helped him to a 760 series. 😀
Jewel Brown rolls first 300 game in Saturday youth league
Congrats to Jewel Brown, whom the Wednesday nighters have seen when he’s at work, on throwing his first (of, we hope, many) 300 game today in the senior division of the Saturday youth league. I am able to post it same day largely because I learned of it through Sean Richard on Facebook. Congrats again, Jewel! 😀
Tom Hedding rolls to 300 in Saturday youth league
Congrats to Tom Hedding, who had the first 300 of the season in the senior division of the Saturday youth league. The perfect game helped him post a 769 set, also high in the league this season. 😀
Tom Hedding shoots 299 at AMF Auburn Lanes
Prior to bowling tonight, Tom Hedding informed me that he had a 299 game over the weekend at AMF Auburn Lanes in the youth travel league. Congrats again, Tom! 😀
Tom Hedding, Kevin Thibeault run 11 in a row on same day
As noted on the latest update of the standings for the senior division of the youth league, Tom Hedding and Kevin Thibeault both posted 11-in-a-row games on the same day recently. Hedding barely missed a 300 game w/ a 299, while Thibeault posted a 297. Congrats to both on their big games. 😀
300 lightning strikes twice for Brendan Litchfield
This bit of news I received by way of his aunt on Facebook…
Brendan Litchfield has shot 2 300 games in less than a two month span. The first one occurred in the state youth tournament on May 3 at AMF Holiday Lanes in Somerset, and he would then add another one on Friday night at Westgate Lanes in the Friday night summer youth league.
Congrats again, Brendan! 😀 (I’ve congratulated him on Facebook before posting this.)
Tom Hedding rolls perfect 300 in Westgate Lanes youth league
Congrats to Tom Hedding, who rolled the second perfect game of the season in the Senior division of the youth league at Westgate Lanes on Saturday. 😀
Danny Khuu finishes 4th in Pepsi Youth Championships
The USBC reported that Brockton’s own Danny Khuu finished 4th in the boys scratch division of the recent Pepsi Youth Championships held in Detroit, in which bowlers used their 18 game qualifying score from the Junior Gold event, which was held concurrently. Mr. Khuu won a $1,000 scholarship for his efforts. Good shooting Danny! 😀
Danny Khuu, Tom Hedding shoot 300s in Westgate Junior League
Two bowlers in the Senior division of the Saturday morning Westgate Junior League, Danny Khuu and Tom Hedding, recently had 300 games approved by the USBC. Khuu posted his 300 on March 15, while Hedding shot his on March 29. Congrats to both bowlers. 😀
March 2008 “People’s Tournament” @ Town Line Ten Pin
The People’s Tournament site has reported that Ryan Oreste, bowling at his home center and carrying a 174 average, was the winner of the March tournament at Town Line Ten Pin in Malden, MA. David Gordon (Brunswick Lowell Lanes, 210) was second. Greg Hudson (195 avg.) led the Westgate Lanes bowlers (12th), while Linwood Cowen, Jr. out of AMF Taunton Lanes (180 avg.) was 10th.
Youth bowling note: The annual Massachusetts state scholarship tournament will take place on April 5 & 6 (two weekends from now) at Westgate Lanes, so if you want to see the area’s best young bowlers in action, Westgate Lanes will be the place to go in two weeks.
