2017-18 Week 23 league standings update

Updating my league standings:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning a point from Dawg Pound, Let’s Mix Em Up is in a tie for 13th with 5 Spares, eight points behind Spare Change, who are a point ahead of Creeden’s Mustangs, two ahead of Minds in the Gutter, and four ahead of Stuck With Us, Dawg Pound, and Ebony & Ivories. Last Empire will be tomorrow night’s opponents.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning six points from Ten Is Enough, The Three Stooges are tied for 3rd with Broads with Balls, four points behind a tie for first between Here for the Beer and Ten Is Enough. Ball Busterz are the opposition Sunday night. My 259 game and 672 series received high score mention on the standing sheet.

My Week 20 bowling, frame-by-frame

Back-to-back missed 7 pins cost me my high series of the season, but I feel the good swing I had earlier in the season has returned, so I’m hoping for more of the same in the near future.

Result: 180-259-233=672
Average (60 games): 183
Average for last 9 games: 190
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 566

Composite average (126 games): 182

Team crushed second and third games after losing the first game by 2 pins. We were expecting Harry to sub for Peter, but Harry was with his son at NEBA at East Providence Lanes, so we had to take Peter’s blind score.

Congrats to everyone! 🙂

My Week 23 bowling, frame-by-frame

Another reasonable night, with the last game only getting away from me because of bad ball reaction at the end of it. My 4 pin (two misses) prevented me from being perfect on single pins.

Result: 200-188-168=556
Average (66 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 191
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 592

Composite average (123 games): 181

Si (479) was the only one of us with all three games over average; his 185 combined with Tom’s 198 third game helped us win our only point. Opposing anchor bowler shot 763.

2017-18 Week 22 league standings update

Only updating Brunswick Mixed this week, as Sunday Niters had the week off:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning one point from Ebony & Ivories, Let’s Mix Em Up is in a tie for 9th place with four teams, six points behind Minds in the Gutter, who are a point ahead of three teams tied for 2nd, and three points ahead of Last Empire in 5th place. Dawg Pound provides the opposition tomorrow night.

Bill Briggs shoots first Pepsi league 300

Bill Briggs has been a member of the Coke (now Pepsi) league since its beginning, and finally got his first 300 in the league. I should also say that Bill has been one of the biggest supporters of my social media efforts, so I’m happy he finally has a 300.

The video I got is below:

Congrats Bill, you’ve earned this one! 🙂

EDIT: My report that this was Bill Briggs’ first 300 ever was in error, and this was just his first one in the Pepsi league. The post has been edited.

Ed Merriam elected to Mass. state USBC Hall of Fame

A source on the state board has informed me that the late Ed Merriam has been posthumously elected to the Massachusetts State USBC Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service. As noted in his obituary, Ed was association manager for the Pittsfield Bowling Association, was a member of both the Pittsfield USBC and Youth Halls of Fame, and was past president of the Berkshire County Youth Bowling Association. Ed was also known by me to have been state association manager briefly before his passing.

Ed will be inducted during the opening ceremony of the state tournament at AMF Chicopee Lanes.

My Week 22 bowling, frame-by-frame

Steady night tonight, with my second game being more or less saved by punching out in the 10th. I did miss a 10 in the second game, but made two others later, with no other single-pin misses.

Result: 201-173-198=572
Average (63 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 191
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 602

Composite average (120 games): 181

Team was leading total after two, but lost total in the third game, and it was more a case of opponents getting hot, as Si had a 174 in that game.

Stephen Major shoots 816 in His & Hers; Ray Fischer bowls 290

Congrats tonight to Stephen Major, who recorded 238-280-298 for an 816 set in the His & Hers league, which was his 2nd 800 series. I also need to note a backlogged score from that league last week, as Stephen’s grandfather, Ray Fischer, had a 290 game, so congrats to him, as well. 🙂

UPDATE: I just realized that, with Tim Major’s 265 third game, Stephen and Tim have a 563 doubles game, over the USBC’s reporting threshold. Congrats! 🙂

2017-18 Week 21 league standings

The usual standings update, after Week 21:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning three points from Stuck With Us, Let’s Mix Em Up is tied for 9th with that team and Lost & Found, five points behind Minds in the Gutter, who are two points ahead of Ebony & Ivories (tomorrow night’s opponents) and Spare Change, and three points ahead of Last Empire, Creeden’s Mustangs, and Dawg Pound. I had the high handicap game of the week (260) in the men’s “B” division.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning two points from Broads With Balls, The Three Stooges are in 3rd, eight points behind Ten Is Enough, who lead Here for the Beer by two points, with Broads With Balls 4th, ten points behind the lead. The league is not bowling Sunday (Super Bowl Sunday), and we bowl against the leaders, Ten Is Enough, when we return. My 220 game was worthy of high score mention on the standing sheet.

Jan. 28 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 19 bowling, frame-by-frame

Things were going fine until I lost my carry in the third game and my spare game went with it. I only did enough to just get average.

Result: 185-220-138=543
Average (57 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 176
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 566

Composite average (117 games): 181

We had command of total after two games (splitting the games), but then lost the third by enough to lose total by one pin.

Richard, Hagan, Chalifoux win titles in Greater Boston city tournament

The Greater Boston USBC Bowling Association has posted results of their city tournament, held last month at Town Line Luxury Lanes, to their Facebook page (as a series of individual posts), and Sean Richard won scratch singles and all-events in the tournament, as well as Pepsi league bowlers Shawn Hagan and Dave Chalifoux figuring in the scratch team title as members of Beat the Lefties. Congrats guys! 🙂

Update: I’ve been informed that Brian Gaskill and Steve Dale Jr. of the Pepsi league were also members of the winning Beat the Lefties team. Thanks to my source for the heads-up.

Danny Khuu wins handicap title at RI USBC Doubles Championship

As shown in the above Facebook post, Westgate bowler Danny Khuu teamed with Bruce Hall to win the handicap title at the inaugural Rhode Island USBC Doubles Championship, which was held the last two weekends at Walnut Hill Bowl in Woonsocket. Hall & Khuu were actually leading scratch with a 1,944 (four games) going into the final day, but were bested by Paul Smith & Joey Transue with a 1,989, with Hall & Khuu’s 1,944 still being good for the handicap title.

WTG “Khuulade”! 🙂

Westgate bowlers win titles in Southeastern Mass. USBC trios

According to a post in the association’s Facebook group, Ed Grossett, Rene Thompson, and Mike “Sensae” Reed, all bowlers in Westgate’s Boston Rhythm & Bowling league, won the handicap title in the Southeastern Mass. Bowling Association’s trios tournament last Sunday at Wonder Bowl in New Bedford with a 2,316 total, and the Pepsi league’s Chuck Paige teamed with Jayme Silva and Mike Berube to take the scratch title with a 2,207 total. Nice bowling, guys! 🙂
