Fall 2015 Week 12 virtual league results

Furious Five won four points from The Lion Killers, but, more importantly, VEGBAGS were swept by Team 8, the third place team going in, so we’re now six points behind the lead with three weeks left, followed in third by Team 8, four points behind us.

The league had its best week of the season last week, averaging 206+. πŸ™‚

Nov. 29 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 12 bowling, frame-by-frameΒ (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Except for a couple of frames in each of the second two games, I couldn’t get out of my own way tonight, as I seemed to be dropping everything.

Result: 117-156-134=407
Average (33 games): 170
Average for last 9 games: 155
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 542

Composite average (69 games): 169

Lee tried picking me up with a 738, but we only managed four points, which really should have been six if I got any count filling the 10th first frame.

Nov. 29 No-Tap Shootout results

Junior announced a change in the strike jackpot structure this week, with five no-tap strikes (not natural) in a row now getting 40% of the jackpot, six in a row 60%, and seven in a row 80%. This will be subject to change, but, as will be noted below, it did work well.

The results:

  1. Tom Hedding 890
  2. Stan Lewis 878
  3. Shirley Major 836
  4. Jeff Carter 820
  5. Ken Norris 815

There were 27 entries.

During the shootout, TomTom got six no-tap strikes in a row for $1,134, and Al Donato later got five in a row, with Junior making the payout an even $300 for him.

Congrats to everyone! πŸ™‚

Tyrone Thornton & Jazz Israel win doubles in TNBA regional

The TNBA reportedΒ that Coke league bowlers Tyrone Thornton and Yoron “Jazz” Israel (the latter whom is just a sub in the league right now) were the winners of the men’s handicap doubles event at the recent TNBA Eastern regional tournament, which was held at ABC North Lanes in Harrisburg, PA. The pair shot 1,193 scratch for a 1,466 handicap total in the event.

Congrats guys! πŸ™‚

Nov. 25 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 12 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Probably the best that can be said about my night tonight was that it was over quick (only one bowler on the other team on the lanes), as I had a bad case of the chops on spares tonight. I couldn’t even blame splits for the open frames, as I left none.

Result: 164-126-156=446
Average (36 games): 169
Average for last 9 games: 164
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 526

Composite average (66 games): 171

The bright spot of the night was Jeff, as he had what he told me was his first league 200 (214) tonight. The other team had three vacancies, so we weren’t bowling for forfeit points, but still lost all four.

Nov. 24 Sunday Niters standings update

After winning four points from Suzy’s Crew, Pin Pals are tied for 5th with OSIMAS, 11 points behind Where Is B?, who lead Macs by three points and High Rollers by four points. We bowl against Bowling Stones Sunday night.

Of course, I made the high score list last week with my 202. Lee, while he didn’t have the high game of the week (Ken Norris had a 244), did have the high series with a 667.

Fall 2015 Week 11 virtual league results

Furious Five won five points from Sphere Chuckers, but VEGBAGS won all seven, so they’re now 10 points ahead of us with four weeks left. Team 8 is seven points behind us in third.

We did get the high team game of the week (1,170), which my 233 second game was involved in, thanks to a 278 from sk8shorty01 and a 251 from Lumpytire, with the former being the high individual game of the week. The team game is listed in third in the year-to-date highs.

Nov. 22 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 11 bowling, frame-by-frameΒ (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Another night, more focus on keeping my shoulders leveler, and I didn’t miss my mark outside as much. My 202 puts me back on the high score list for the week, anyway.

Result: 202-164-167=533
Average (30 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 172
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 535

Composite average (63 games): 172

I sealed the points in the first two games in the 10th, but our opponents won the third game by enough for total. Lee was once again in the mid 6s.

Nov. 22 Brunswick Mixed standings update

After winning three points from Knock Em Down, Seven Deadly Pins are in 15th place, 14 points behind a tie for the lead between Lost Empire 2 and Team 14. The leaders are two points ahead of Mixed Nuts. Wednesday night’s opponents will be Steak and Lettuce.

I’ll comment when I’ve seen whether my 233 game was involved in a high for the week in my average division.

Nov. 22 Sunday Niters standings update

After winning seven points from The Minions 2, Pin Pals are in 5th place, 11 points behind Where is B?, who are seven points ahead of Macs and eight points ahead of High Rollers and Ten Is Enough. Tonight’s opponents will be Suzy’s Crew, notable for having Sue Sutter, the first woman to bowl a perfect game at Westgate Lanes (albeit in an unsanctioned league), on it. This will be, of course, my first time crossing with her.

Nov. 21 Adult/Junior doubles results

Unofficial results of today’s Adult/Junior doubles tournament (scores are with handicap):

Senior division

  1. Jon & Ken Gerraughty 1,427
  2. Nick & Dick Damon 1,400

Entries: 12

Prep/Junior division

  1. (Tie) Hunter Moore & Rose Hamilton and Zach & Mike Peirce 1,338

Entries: 7

I want to note that, along with the usual Westgate bowlers, North Bowl had a good contingent present today, and Hunter Moore, the youth bowler on Rose Hamilton’s team, bowls out of Wonder Bowl. I know Marcia appreciated the participation from other houses today, so thanks to Rose for getting the word out about our Adult/Junior tournaments. πŸ™‚

2015 Mass. women’s state senior tournament results

The Massachusetts USBC Women’s Bowling Association has postedΒ results of this year’s women’s state senior tournamentΒ (PDF file linked), conducted last month at Cove Lanes in Great Barrington. The state champions were Patricia Noyce, representing the Worcester County association, in Class I (65 & over) and Karen Umbrello, also representing Worcester County, in Class II (50-64). Patricia Sweeney (3rd) and Doris Woods (6th), representing Tri-City, also placed in Class I.

Congrats to all! πŸ™‚

Nov. 18 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 11 bowling, frame-by-frameΒ (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I managed the “century” in the positive direction between first and second games tonight. My improvement came after I focused on keeping my shoulders more level, as Lee has told me often is happening when I miss outside. Two things I’m also happy about: My second game was clean, and I didn’t miss any single pins all night. πŸ™‚

Result: 132-233-167=532
Average (33 games): 171
Average for last 9 games: 161
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 534

Composite average (60 games): 172

Jeff had his high game in this league tonight, as well, adding a 172 (134 average) to my 233 en route to winning the second game by over 200 pins. We also won the first game for three points tonight.

Last week in brackets, I beat Tim Dann in my one final to get my $5 back.

Nov. 17 Brunswick Mixed standings update

After winning two points from Lickety Splits, Seven Deadly Pins are tied for 14th with Sweet Rolls and Knock Em Down, 15 points behind the leading Lost Empire 2, who lead Team 14 by a point, Mixed Nuts by two points, and Creeden’s Mustangs by 3.5 points. We bowl against Knock Em Down tomorrow night, and it will be the league’s annual “Turkey Bowl” night, with a prize going to the bowler with the most pins over average for the night in each division.

Fall 2015 Week 10 virtual league results

Furious Five won just two points from 4th and Roll, but VEGBAGS also only won two from their opponents, so we remain eight points out of the lead, with All 7’s four behind us in third.

Fin09 of Sphere Chuckers submitted his 4th virtual league 300 game last week, and those four are now the most for one bowler in league history.

Nov. 15 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 10 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Strikes were just too hard to come by tonight, with my only one other than a double in the first game coming on my last shot of the night.

Result: 156-151-155=462
Average (27 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 172
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 546

Composite average (57 games): 171

Tonight was really about making enough spares to win points, and I mostly did that, with my bad shot filling the 10th second game costing us one point after I got seven pins to tie. Lee was once again around the mid-600s.

2015 Mass. state youth singles tournament results

The Massachusetts USBC Youth Association has posted the results of their annual singles tournament (PDF file), held last Sunday at AMF Auburn Lanes. I’ll note the division winners below (all divisions competed with handicap except for scratch):

100 & below: Alexis Hubert
101-120: Jordan Bouie
121-140: Hunter Fontaine
141-160: Lexia Stolakis
161-180: Kyle Egan
181+: Kyle Major
Scratch: Tom Hankey Jr.

Kyle Egan and Kyle Major represented Westgate Lanes in this tournament, as did Glenn Rucker (3rd, 121-140) and Aaron Major (2nd, scratch).

Congrats to all! πŸ™‚

Nov. 11 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 10 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I have to count my blessings where I find them, and tonight, it was getting back to 500 in this league after three straight nights under that mark. Splits mostly did in the second game, or it could have been better.

Result: 170-147-183=500
Average (30 games): 170
Average for last 9 games: 157
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 517

Composite average (54 games): 172

Team won first and third games, but lost the second by enough to also lose total. Si was the steadiest one on my team tonight, with all three games over his average.

Last week in brackets, I got to one final, losing to Carol Andersen in that bracket.

Fall 2015 Week 9 virtual league results

Furious Five won only two points from All 7’s, and, while we remain in second, we’re now eight points behind VEGBAGS. All 7’s are in third, 15 points behind the lead.

In what is believed to also be a first for this virtual league, champ submitted a 218 triplicate series last week, which was his first triplicate ever.

2015 Mass. state senior tournament results

The Massachusetts state association has posted results of the 2015 state senior tournament, held recently at Greylock Bowl & Golf in North Adams. I’ll note the champions below (scores are with handicap):

Class A (70 & over): John Boldyga 1,578
Class B (65-69): Michael Wilson 1,486
Class C (60-64): Steve Kallas 1,481
Class D (55-59): Wayne Shepard 1,603
Class E (50-54): John Doyle Jr. 1,481

Congrats to this year’s champions. πŸ™‚

Nov. 8 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Mostly a consistent night. Credit Lee for suggesting the move that got me back in the pocket second game, but then the line disappeared for both of us and we couldn’t muster much third game.

Result: 190-197-166=553
Average (24 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 174
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 540

Composite average (51 games): 173

After winning a close first game, total wasn’t really in doubt for us after the second game, though we lost the third game by a healthy margin. For her part, Rachel had all three games over her average, and Lee shot in the 620s thanks to a 258 second game.
