Nov. 4 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Tough night, particularly in the third game, when I couldn’t make a spare after the 6th frame. That’s all I’ll say about it.

Result: 156-153-116=425
Average (27 games): 171
Average for last 9 games: 152
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 534

Composite average (48 games): 172

The other team forfeited (only two of the five bowlers present), but team only won the second game (we didn’t lose points because we could only win them).

Nov. 1 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Considering the long day I had at the Bowler of the Year tournament, I bowled better than I thought. There weren’t many strikes, but I did make most of my spares, with the only miss I’d probably like back being the 9 pin in the second game.

Result: 172-183-179=534
Average (21 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 164
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 541

Composite average (45 games): 174

Both Lee and I were over average for the night, but we ran into an opposing bowler who had two games at least 50 pins over his average. Points were there for us second and third game if I performed in the 10th, but that was not to be.

2015 Brockton BA Bowler of the Year tournament finalists: Runner-up Danny Khuu, Champion Brian Egan

Danny Khuu, the defending Brockton Bowling Association Bowler of the Year tournament champion, was in prime position to defend after becoming the top seed in the stepladder in this year’s edition today at North Bowl Lanes, but, in the end, Brian Egan needed a double in the 10th frame to win and got the two strikes, becoming the newest Bowler of the Year champion. Stepladder results follow below:

Match 1: Jason Sherwood def. Mark Zimmerman 222-204
Semifinal: Brian Egan def. Sherwood 237-233
Championship: Egan def. Danny Khuu 262-254

The tournament had a record 59 entries today, so the Brockton Bowling Association would like to thank everyone who came out. Full results will be on their website soon.

Rob Young posts 300/803 in Patriots league

Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Rob Young, already with a 300 game in the league this year, tuned up for the Brockton Bowling Association’s Bowler of the Year tournament, which he won in 2003, by posting games of 246, 257, and 300 for an 803 series tonight in the Patriots league. The tournament, which will be held at North Bowl Lanes this year, is just days away.

Congrats again Rob! 🙂

Oct. 28 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I’m still in a slump, but I had a couple of better games tonight, so it’s probably just a matter of working through it.

Result: 141-179-171=491
Average (24 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 169
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 551

Composite average (42 games): 174

Team tried to hold our own against a tough opposing team, but we failed to win points. Their anchor shot 718, and two of the others were also over 600.

Oct. 27 Sunday Niters standings update

After winning six points from Split Happens, Pin Pals are tied for 5th with Adam & Steve, six points behind the leading Ten Is Enough, who are two points ahead of Macs, and four ahead of Where is B? and OSIMAS. We bowl against Adam & Steve Sunday night.

Individually, Lee had both the high game and series of the week.

Oct. 27 Brunswick Mixed standings update

After winning one point from Mixed Nuts, Seven Deadly Pins are in 12th place, nine points behind a tie for the lead between Mixed Nuts and Team 14. The leaders are two points ahead of Lost Empire 2 and Spare Us, and three ahead of Steak and Lettuce. We bowl against Lost Empire 2 tomorrow night, with a position round coming up next week.

Fall 2015 Week 7 virtual league results

Furious Five lost all seven to VEGBAGS, who passed us for the lead, as a result, and are up by three points. Team 8 is in 3rd, seven points behind the lead.

The only special note on the standing sheet involved someone I know in real life: wronghander submitted a 30-clean series, and, he said while it wasn’t his first, it was the first he’s submitted for this virtual league. 🙂

The Northeast Amateur Tournament reported on their Facebook page that AJ Voisine and Danny Khuu were the winners of the doubles event held today at Westgate Lanes, defeating the father-son team of Bert & Jeff Santos, 1082-996, with handicap, in the two game final match.

Also, Matt Senay, bowling out of Lowell, posted a 300 game during qualifying, with AJ adding a 297 game in the round, and Danny Khuu bowling a 290 game in an earlier round of the head-to-head finals.

Congrats guys! 🙂

Oct. 25 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 7 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

It was just not my night tonight, even though my start was promising. Lee noticed me dropping my shoulder, but when I finally got that corrected, nothing was falling, even on my good shots, leaving the 7 in particular just about every way you could.

Result: 168-159-157=484
Average (18 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 173
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 529

Composite average (39 games): 175

I would be fortunate to have Lee pick me up tonight, because he shot 246-242-259 for a 747, netting the team six points.

Oct. 23 Sunday Niters standings update

After failing to win points from Where Is B?, Pin Pals are tied for 5th with OSIMAS and Who’s Carrying Who, six points behind a tie for the lead between Where Is B?, Ten Is Enough, and Adam & Steve; Macs is alone in 4th, four points behind the lead. Sunday night will be the first position round of the half, and we’re bowling against Split Happens.

Oct. 21 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 7 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I don’t want to make it an excuse, but I haven’t been in the 500s since I had a front tooth extracted on Friday. Tonight, I just couldn’t put much together and had some tough spares, though I converted two of the baby splits.

From here on, I’ll be tracking my composite average between my two leagues.

Result: 148-164-147=459
Average (21 games): 176
Average for last 9 games: 169
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 538

Composite average (36 games): 176

Team only won the second game, but Donald had a better night than he’s been having, with two games in the 120s.

In brackets last week, I beat Shawn in my two finals for the $5 profit on the week.

Oct. 18 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 6 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK)

I didn’t really bowl that badly through two games, but Lee lost his line, and me my carry, late in the second game, so we both decided to try the “rocket to the pocket” approach, which none of us were really successful with, but him more than me because he has more natural ball speed.

Result: 141-185-138=464
Average (15 games): 176
Average for last 9 games: 183
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 545

Tough lanes, and a tough team to go with them, as we lost all eight. Rachel saved a little bit of face for us with two games over her average.

2015 UBA Westgate schedule change note

For anyone planning their bowling for Westgate’s UBA weekend on Dec. 5 & 6, please be advised that the UBA matches have been rescheduled for that Sunday at 1 PM. As a result, the NAT and the Bay State Open have also swapped dates, with the NAT scheduled for Saturday with a 1:15 PM first squad time, and the Bay State Open running at 3 PM Sunday following the UBA matches.

Wamesit Lanes set to open in Tewksbury

Brunswick Zone Lowell will probably remain the primary destination for league and tournament bowling in the Merrimack Valley area, but, soon, bowlers there will have an alternative, with Wamesit Lanes in Tewksbury announcing on their Facebook page that they’re nearing a grand opening, possibly by the end of October. Their website informs site viewers that there will be 28 lanes of bowling, with a mix of tenpin and candlepin, available, along with other forms of entertainment, including an HD golf simulator. Another section of the site includes a sign-up form for leagues, so perhaps some smaller tenpin leagues will be available at this new center.

Good luck, guys! 🙂

Oct. 14 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 6 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

After my hiccup in this league last week, I had another three consistent games, with the only single pin miss coming on a mental error (didn’t use my spare ball, as is usual). As you’ll see below, my two league averages are converging, with my Sunday night average currently just a pin higher than Wednesday night.

Result: 193-186-199=578
Average (18 games): 180
Average for last 9 games: 182
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 550

Team won the third game by enough for total by three pins.

Oct. 12 Sunday Niters standings update

After winning all eight points from Team 15, Pin Pals are now tied for the lead with Where is B?, Ten Is Enough, and Adam & Steve, with Split Happens, Team 15, and Macs tied for 5th two points behind. Our opponents Sunday night are Where Is B?, which will be, in effect, a position round before the position round.

Individually, Lee had the high game and series of the week, and I had the second high game and third high series of the week.
