Motiv Demo Day set for Oct. 25

Motiv, the bowling ball company, will conduct a demo day concurrently with the Northeast Amateur Tournament doubles event at Westgate Lanes on Oct. 25, during which Motiv Eastern regional rep Justin Wyman will be on hand to assist bowlers in trying out Motiv’s product line. The demo balls can be used on open play lanes, for which the bowler will pay lineage. For more details, or to sign up, contact Ray in the pro shop.

Thursday Night Patriots website launched

With the growth of the league in the last couple of years, Thursday Night Patriots secretary Joe Inglis has seen it fit to launch a website for the league, which may be a first for a league at Westgate Lanes. You’ll be able to follow all of the league news and scores on the new site, which I’ve added a link to in the sidebar under the “Local/New England” category.

Sept. 22 Brunswick Mixed standings update

After winning one point from Creeden’s Mustangs, Seven Deadly Pins (decided to spell out the number to avoid confusing Donna) are tied for 9th with that team, 4 BAGA, and Sweet Rolls, four points behind Team #14 (the only team in the league that hasn’t lost a point yet), who are a point ahead of Spare Us and Mixed Nuts. Avengers Assemble will be tomorrow night’s opponents.

As I forgot Sunday night’s opponents, I’ll post that team here, as well: Three Turkeys

Sept. 22 Sunday Niters standings update

The Sunday Niters league may turn out to be my quickest updating league with regard to standings, as I have the standings on LeagueSecretary.com the next night.

Pin Pals turned out to split 4-4 (eight point league) with Lexa (our opponents), and we are tied with them and OSIMAS for 12th (out of 16 teams), 10 points behind Three Turkeys and Team 15, who lead Where Is B? and Pinknockers by two points. Note: The league does not split a 30-week season; also, the team was not bowling until the second week of the league, so we’re at a slight disadvantage.

The administrivia for this post is, obviously, the addition of the link to the LeagueSecretary.com standings in the sidebar.

Sunday Niters links added to sidebar

In a fit of insomnia, I decided to get the links (spreadsheet log, BowlSK index, and Bowler Express standing sheet) for my new league into the sidebar (under the customary “Author’s links” category that is mostly for stuff about my personal bowling). Readers can use the new links to follow my bowling just like any league I’ve already been in.

Also, my winter league recaps and standings updates will be differentiated in the subject line with the name of the league now.

The Northeast Amateur Tournament reported on their Facebook page that Chuck Paige II and his partner Jim Handy won the doubles event held on Sept. 20 at Strikers East in Raymond, NH, defeating Sean Richard and Danny Khuu, 974-961 (with handicap), in the two-game final match.

My Sunday Niters debut

My budget allowing for a second league this season, I thought that Sunday night was my best other night to bowl, and have joined the Sunday Niters league. Moe Morrison, the secretary, placed me on a team with Rachel McGovern and Lee Goss (trios league), the former who is bowling her first league and the latter returning after many years away. Hoping to channel some of my Brunswick Mixed debut, with agreement of my teammates, we named the team Pin Pals.

My Sunday Niters Week 2 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Unlike my first two weeks of Brunswick Mixed, for the most part, my Sunday Niters debut was a mixed bag, with a few good shots, but a lot of washouts, too. The positive was that I made all of my 10s, including the one I shot on my 7-10 split, but single pin misses on the left side counterbalanced that.

Result: 157-161-160=478
Average (3 games): 159
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 482

I’m not sure if I was the only one on the pair with an entering average, but I knew at least Rachel was averaging in, so I won’t know the team points until I see the standings.

The RI Ladies Classic reported that Coke league bowler Tina Gannon won her first title in the season-opening event today at AMF Cranston Lanes after defeating Shaunna Varin 274-221 (with handicap). Tina came close to the RI Ladies Classic’s second 300 game in its four-year history in the title match by throwing the front nine.

Link to IBMA master TV & streaming schedule added to sidebar

The International Bowling Media Association has been working on a redesigned website, and that’s mostly done, but there’s one feature of it that I wanted to get a link to on the sidebar, and that’s their master TV and streaming schedule, which currently has all of the scheduled PBA events (both on ESPN and Xtra Frame), as well as BowlTV’s schedule, and upcoming events on InsideBowling.com and MichiganBowler.TV. Jackie Wyckoff told me a list of European events will be added to the schedule, as well, so if you’re ever wondering what bowling is being shown at a given moment, this will be the page to visit. The link to the page is in the “Bowling Streaming/Videos” category.

Link to BPAA website added to sidebar

I have very little to do with the business side of bowling, but, for the sake of completeness, I have added a link to the Bowling Proprietors Association of America’s website to the “National/International Organizations” sidebar list. The addition is made with the intent of helping those who are on the business side of bowling. 🙂

Sept. 16 league night recap

My Week 2 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Three at least reasonable games this time. The Fast was used all night and I’ve found it reasonably controllable on this shot. I’m really on a positive with how this league is starting.

Result: 169-182-201=552
Average (6 games): 180
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 548

Team got stomped on in the first game, so total was never really in doubt, but the only game we salvaged was the second game, which I struck out in the 10th in for the point.

2015 Brockton BA Bowler of the Year set for Nov. 1 at North Bowl

The Brockton Bowling Association has noted on their website (in the upcoming events) that the 2015 Bowler of the Year tournament will take place on Nov. 1 at North Bowl Lanes. Qualifiers will be mailed entry details by the end of the month, and you may see the qualifying criteria on this page, but please note that, rather than city tournament, Brockton Bowling Association members who cashed in the state tournament are qualifiers.

The New England Bowlers Association reported on their Facebook page that Westgate bowler Brian Egan won his second NEBA title tonight at Town Line Luxury Lanes in Malden after defeating Dave Kipperman, 40-27, in a 9th and 10th frame roll-off after a 204 tie in the final match.

Congrats Brian! 🙂

Fall 2015 virtual league ramp-up

My virtual league also got started in the week about to pass, and my team, named Furious Five, is comprised of Dylan585, Lumpytire, Mikestormbowler91, and sk8shorty01 as my teammates. I’ve always wanted to “bowl” with that last teammate, as we’ve been online correspondents for a long time now, so I’m really looking forward to this fall season. 🙂

Ed Roberts wins PBA60 regional event in NC

Over the years, Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Ed Roberts has won a number of tournaments at nearly every level. One thing he hadn’t done, however, was win a tournament in the PBA.

That changed on Sept. 5, however, when he won the PBA60 Wilson & Son Pest Control Super Senior South Open at George Pappas Victory Lanes in Mooresville, NC. As the linked results page shows, he qualified 15th with a +138 (eight games) and went through the match play bracket, defeating Roy Buckley 257-219, 214-276, 228-217 in the best-of-three final match. The tournament was contested on the regional Carmen Salvino pattern.

Congrats Ed! 🙂

Sept. 9 league night recap (Start of 2015-16 winter season)

I came into tonight knowing I was going to have at least four bowlers, because Si Rosenthal, one of my first friends in bowling, messaged me to say he was joining my team for this season. I picked up a fifth in Jeff Gottfried, who is about a 140 average bowler. It looked like my team was going to be team number 7, so I suggested the punny 7 Deadly Pins for a team name, which was agreed to.

My Week 1 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Recalling that I only managed a 429 first week last year, the 100 pin improvement was most definitely a better start this year. I still had the clunker game, but a timely ball change produced a 222 third game.

Result: 172-135-222=529
Average (3 games): 176
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 533

My 529 was second high series on the pair, but the 222 was the high game. Team was hopeful for three out of the four, but we’ll see when the first standings are out.

The links transition will probably begin tomorrow.
