After winning three points from “The Doables”, “Turkey Hunters” are now tied for 13th with Team 16, 10.5 points behind “Bowling Stones”, who lead “Knock Em Down” by 2.5 points, “Y Not Us” by three points, and “No Names” by 3.5 points. “Anger Management” will be the opposition tomorrow night.
Ed Roberts becomes oldest to win open NEBA title at Westgate Lanes
The New England Bowlers Association reported that Ed Roberts, by virtue of his win this weekend at Westgate Lanes, became the oldest to win a regular NEBA title, as well as having the longest span between a bowler’s first and most recent titles (51 years). The title match was a study in contrasts, as well, as he defeated 18 year old Tyler Perry 233-222 in the final match, which was the largest difference in age between two bowlers in the final match in NEBA’s history.
In the final match, Tyler had a lead on Ed until Ed started stringing strikes in the 6th frame, running six in a row until the fill in the 10th. That forced Tyler to throw a double in the 10th to win, but a 9 pin on the first shot gave Ed Roberts the title.
Aside from the Saturday qualifiers already mentioned, NEBA’s official results sheet also showed that Westgate bowlers Danny Khuu and Shawn Hagan also cashed.
Winter 2015 Week 11 virtual league results
“Diamond Flush 2.0” won all seven points from Team 3, the leaders, and are now just 12 points behind them in 5th place. Team 3 leads Team 4 by six points, “The Big Red One” by eight points, and “The Chat Line” by nine points.
Mike Berube, Scott Widmer post 300 games in March Westgate NEBA
I’ll post a full recap of the day when NEBA makes a post somewhere, but I wanted to mention that Mike Berube started the 9 AM NEBA squad today with a 300 game, followed in Game 4 by Scott Widmer. I got Widmer’s video, but, as I’m getting used to a new camcorder, I didn’t think I could use it.
Good bowling guys! 😀
Henry Webber bowls pair of 290 games in 4 nights
Both of these came to my attention tonight, so I’ll mention them both here: Henry Webber posted a 290 game Thursday night in the Thursday Handicap Doubles league, and another one tonight in the Rhythm & Bowling league. Good bowling Henry! 😀
Mar. 2015 NEBA Day 1 note
After the doubles tournament, there was the 6 PM NEBA squad, and scoring was at about a medium pace, with the squad cut turning out to be +83. There were three Westgate Lanes bowlers who made the squad cut: Ed Roberts, Stephen Major, and Stephen Dale Jr.; for Stephen Major, it was his first NEBA cash, and his prize will be deposited into his SMART account. Darrell Guertin, the squad leader, also had the high game of the squad with a 285.
Good bowling! 😀
Sean Richard, Danny Khuu win Bay State Open doubles
A busy tournament Saturday got started today with the Bay State Open doubles event, which Sean Richard and Danny Khuu won over AJ Voisine and Paris Cook by a score of 478-442 (with handicap). Alex Major and Hakim Emannuel were the members of the other Westgate team in the head-to-head finals.
Sean and Danny got into the head-to-head finals with some big scores, particularly in the first game of qualifying, where Sean had a 300 and Danny a 265 for a 565, a doubles game that is reportable as a team honor score. Paris Cook also had a 290 game to help his team qualify.
Great bowling, guys! 😀
Jason Correia shoots Westport house record 891 set
I didn’t want it to look like I’m rubbing a certain series bowled at Westgate Lanes in, but I also thought it might be worth mentioning that Jason Correia bowled games of 295, 300, and 296 for an 891 series tonight in the American Men league at Holiday Lanes in Westport, a new house and Southeastern Mass. association record, and what would have been the new state record until last month. Fine bowling just the same, Jason, and congrats! 😀
Dan Esdale posts 822 set in Westgate Mixed
Congrats to Dan Esdale, with games of 279, 264, and 279 tonight for an 822 series in the Westgate Mixed league. 😀
March 2015 Adult/Junior official results note
After an error in the tabulation of the scores in the Senior division of last Saturday’s Adult/Junior doubles tournament was corrected, Aaron Major and Paris Cook were declared the official winners of the division with the score noted in my earlier post (1,508). Corey Marvel and Adam Johndrow’s adjusted 1,501 score was still good for second place.
Mar. 25 league night recap
My Week 28 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)
After being sick for a few days, I was expecting just about anything in my performance spectrum tonight, and was happy it was at the higher end. Instead of losing steam as the night progressed, my scores improved each game, with my 211 third game also being clean, something else that has been rather rare this season.
Result: 177-180-211=568
Average (84 games): 167
Average for last 9 games: 179
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 579
After Barry had two good games, I actually ended up high on the pair tonight, with Barry’s two good games being the ones we won for three points (with the point for total).
Last week in brackets, I made three finals, finishing second to Carol Andersen in two of them and second to Mike DiBenedetto in the other for the $1 profit on the week.
Mar. 25 league standings update
After winning two points from “Bowl Pack”, “Turkey Hunters” now stand in 16th place, 10.5 points behind a tie for first between “Y Not Us” and “Bowling Stones”, who lead “Sweet Rolls” by 1.5 points and “Knock Em Down” by 2.5 points. “The Doables” are the opponents tonight.
Tim Larkin throws 300 game in Coke league
I also had to miss running brackets for the first time outside of weather this season last night, and Tim Larkin may have wished it was a normal Coke league night for me last night for one game, as he posted what I’m told was his 7th career 300 game. WTG Tim! I also recently replaced my camcorder, so I did miss an opportunity to use the new one, too.
Mar. 2015 Westgate SEMBA results
I had to miss the first Senior Eastern Mass. Bowlers Association event at Westgate Lanes yesterday, but Ed Roberts was kind enough to pass along results; he didn’t give scores, so I’ll post the list he gave me as is:
- Ed Roberts
- Ed Brabant Jr.
- Don Fournier
- Craig Asselin
- John Hayes Jr.
- John Awalt Jr.
Congrats to all! 😀
Winter 2015 Week 10 virtual league results
“Diamond Flush 2.0” won the first game against “The Chat Line” and hung on for total and three points, putting us still in 5th place, 19 points behind Team 3, who lead both “The Big Red One” and Team 4 by 13 points.
March 2015 NEBA note
NEBA posted on their Facebook page that Beaten Path will be the lane condition in use for next weekend’s event at Westgate Lanes.
I was hoping to be at Westgate for the SEMBA event today, but I wasn’t feeling well, so I had to back out. I hope to catch up with Ed Roberts for results.
Mar. 21 No-Tap Shootout results
And here are the results of the first No-Tap Shootout today:
- AJ Voisine 856
- Shirley Major 791
- Hakim Emmanuel 790
- Rick Fallon 787
There were 24 entries.
Junior decided to run a second shootout today, but I couldn’t stay for the second one. I will try to get the results tomorrow, however.
Hakim Emmanuel bowls 4th career 300 game in Adult/Junior tournament
I noted in my last post that there was more coming on Hakim Emmanuel, and here it is: “Mr. 900” threw his first honor score since the 900 series barely more than a month after the fact, another 300 game in the Adult/Junior doubles tournament today. The coincidences with the 900 series were inescapable, however: The 300 game came on the same pair as the 900 series and was also thrown with an Infrared Vibe, though we don’t know if it was the actual 900 ball because Hakim has two Infrared Vibes now. The 300 game was the only chance he had on 47 & 48, however, as the bowlers moved after each game in the tournament. I forgot what Hakim had in the other two games, but I think I remember seeing a 736 series in the posted standings, and will comment on this post when I can get a chance to verify it.
Congrats again Hakim! 😀
March 2015 Adult/Junior doubles results
The unofficial results of today’s Adult/Junior doubles tournament:
Senior Division
- Corey Marvel & Adam Johndrow 1,520
- Aaron Major & Paris Cook 1,508
Junior Division
- Taylor Harris & Sonji Paige 1,344
Prep Division
- Quentin Coleman & Hakim Emmanuel 1,553
Congrats to all, but there’s more on Hakim coming in my next post. 😉
Links to “The Bowlers Show”, “Phantom Radio” added to sidebar
I’ve recently made the decision to broaden the scope of the “Bowling Streaming/Videos” sidebar list to include audio, so a couple of links to Internet radio shows and podcasts were moved from the general “Bowling Sites” list to the streaming list, but I did want to add a couple of other interview shows and/or podcasts. One is David Waswo’s “The Bowlers Show”, which recently had “Mr. 900” Hakim Emmanuel on, and there are links to both the homepage (with the live stream link) and the interview podcasts (searchable). The other is Kegel.net’s “Phantom Radio”, and while the most recent show is on Kegel’s page, I am going to link the archives, which are on a separate site.
900 series league standings artifacts
I thought it would be interesting for my readers to see how Hakim Emmanuel’s 900 series looked on the Patriots league’s standing sheets. The first one is the BowlerExpress standing sheet dated March 5, which is the first sheet for that league I saw on the site since the 900 series because of a problem Westgate Lanes has been having with connectivity to the site. The other is the standing sheet put out by league secretary Joe Inglis the following week, which he kindly gave me a copy of and that I have recently been able to scan; thanks Joe! 😀

Mikey Trent 803, Danny Khuu 300 highlight hot Patriots league night
The scoring pace in the Patriots league this year has been stellar, but, except for the 900 series last month, tonight might have been the highlight of that league’s season. The biggest part of the night was Mikey Trent (Jr.), who threw his first 800 series with games of 246, 290, and 267 for an 803. Danny Khuu added a 300 game, and Jim Johnson and Rob Young both had 11 in a row 299 games. Congrats to all, and I’ll add video of Danny’s 300 if I get it.
Gary Weiner bowls 300, Melissa Gabriel 287 in Westgate Mixed
I’ve known him since just about a short time after I returned to bowling, and, tonight, it’s my pleasure to report that Gary Weiner threw his first 300 game in the Westgate Mixed league. One of his teammates, Lisa Lach, recorded the video below:
The game after Gary was perfect, Melissa Gabriel was on the verge of becoming the third woman to throw a 300 game at Westgate this season, but fell short on her 11th ball for a 287.
Congrats to both! 🙂
Mar. 18 league night recap
My Week 27 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)
I really only had it together in Game 2, with splits dogging me in the first game, and then losing my release in my last game. The one good game did prove enough to help me to another 500.
Result: 160-198-148=506
Average (81 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 173
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 559
The one good game was also the only game the team won, but it ended up being by enough for total.
Jim Andersen pretty much cleaned house in brackets last week, but I did make one final, beating Shawn in that to break even for the week.
Gary Warner posts 290 game in Westgate Mixed
While John Kunan was perfect, someone I knew first from outside of bowling (softball, actually), Gary Warner, also had a 290 game last week in the Westgate Mixed league. Congrats Gary! 🙂
Mar. 17 league standings update
After winning one point from Team 16, “Turkey Hunters” are now tied with “Ebony & Ivories” for 15th place, 9.5 points behind “Bowling Stones”, who lead “Y Not Us” by a point, “Sweet Rolls” by a point and a half, and “Knock Em Down” by 2.5 points. The “Bowl Pack” provides the opposition tomorrow night.
Keith Tantillo, Brian Egan shoot 290 games in Coke league
The Coke Classic league was quiet in the honor score department for the second third of the season, but the last third started tonight with some fireworks, as Keith Tantillo and Brian Egan had 290 games on the heels of each other. Good work, guys! 😀
Winter 2015 Week 9 virtual league results
“Diamond Flush 2.0” won five of the seven from Team 8, and are now in 5th place, 17 points behind Team 3, who are now 13 points ahead of “The Big Red One” and Team 4 (members “Bwlnggd”, “Doogie”, “explorer05”, “mmalsed”, and “slowdown”), who had a top three all-time team series last week, landing second on the list with a 3,385.
