“X-Factors” only managed two points from “Professional Amateurs”, leaving us tied with them for third place. “Splits For Brains” won five of seven from “All Balls On Deck” to win the league championship; congratulations to the team members, “bigcall”, “Mikestormbowler91”, “rrb6699 (RayRay)” (I usually post him as just “RayRay”), vdubtx, and Vic44.
2013-14 Coke Classic League 2nd third oil pattern
Going to try something different: Instead of uploading it to my Google Drive, I’m going to try to post the PDF program sheet of the shot (oil pattern) for the second third of the Coke league directly through this blog’s media library. I’m not going to be sure how it will link it, but the results will be below:
2013-14 Coke Classic League 2nd third oil pattern
The blog apparently inserts a link to the PDF, so the link above will load the PDF in a new window/tab.
Greg Rand posts 290 game in Patriots league
The Patriots league has been pretty quiet for honor scores so far, but, last week, Greg Rand checked in for them with an 11 in a row 290 game. Congrats Greg! 😀
Brian White tosses 300 in Westgate Mixed
The Westgate Mixed league appears to be the “hot” league for honor scores this season, and Brian White continued that trend tonight with a 300 game. Congrats Brian! 😀
Dec. 18 league night recap
My Week 16 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)
I sometimes forget I’m decent at changing speeds, and I recognized late that that was the adjustment needed in the third game, though it did save my game once I could throw slower, but good, shots. The second game I’ll blame on the splits: I left all four I had on the night in that game.
Result: 189-142-192=523
Average (48 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 181
AVG+1 score for Jan. 8: 529
Team lost all four. I had the high two games on the pair, but, because of my second game, not high series on the pair.
Shawn couldn’t bowl tonight (his daughter’s concert was postponed to tonight from last night due to the weather), so I won’t know about last week’s brackets until after the holiday break, and there were no brackets tonight.
Dec. 17 scrapbook addition
My last post mentioned Dan Robinson and Steve Travers and their big night last night, but Junior also got their team photo last night and posted it to the Westgate Lanes Facebook page, which I copied and added to the “scrapbook”. There’s a bit of a surprise in the photo, as well. 😉
Hall of Famers Robinson, Travers go on scoring spree
Tonight was a good night for the lefties on the “Travis” team in the Coke league, as Dan Robinson started his night with the first 300 game in the league this season, then Steve Travers followed the next game with the first 11 before a pocket 7-10 bit him for a 298 game. Both, of course, are Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famers. Congrats to both! 😀
Fall 2013 Week 15 virtual league results
“X-Factors” only won two points from “5 Fingers of Destruction”, while “Splits For Brains” won all seven from “All Balls On Deck”, meaning the latter team leads “Splits For Brains” by a point and us by two points. The scenario in which we get at least a share of the championship is taking at least five from “Professional Amateurs” and “Splits For Brains” wins 4-3 against “All Balls On Deck”; we win outright with at least six points in that scenario.
Dec. 16 league standings update
After winning a point from Team 16 (who still lead), “Crazy Eights” now stand in 14th place, a half point ahead of “WTF Over” and “3 Plus 2”. We are 18.5 points behind the lead, and the second place team, “The Doables”, are four points behind. We bowl “Nuckin Futs” this week, which will be both the last week of bowling before the holiday break (The league’s by-laws state that the season is shortened when Christmas and New Year’s Day or Eve fall on Wednesday.) and the last week before the position round for the first half.
Dec. 11 league night recap
My Week 15 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)
I was looking pretty decent through two games, but then the wheels fell off of the proverbial wagon, particularly when I missed a move in, and then throwing a bad shot when I finally did. I still ended up with the high game on the pair (second game), and was over average for the fourth consecutive week. I probably wasn’t high enough over average for a prize, though, because this was the league’s “Christmas Bowl” night.
Result: 174-227-138=539
Average (45 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 182
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 530
The second game point was the only one we won. Brian had his first two over average, but couldn’t maintain that in the third game.
Last week was a breakthrough kind of night in my brackets: It was the first time I got money back in all five of them, winning a bracket from Mike DiBenedetto, finishing second to Shawn Coles in three other brackets, and second to Ed Godino Jr. in the last one for $8 in clear profit.
Fall 2013 Week 14 virtual league results
“X-Factors” managed to cut directly into the lead, taking five from the leaders, “All Balls On Deck”, and my virtual team is now four points behind in second with two weeks left. We are four ahead of “2 Lazy 2 Chose”, who are now in third.
We again had the high team game of the week (and this game is now the second high team game of the season), paced by “Charlie98”, who had a new personal best game in tying (with “sk8shorty01”) for individual game honors for the week.
Dec. 9 league standings update
Winning 2.5 points from “3s Company” brought “Crazy Eights” to 15th place, 16.5 points behind our opponents in the coming week, Team 16; that team had “The Doables” reduce their lead to three points. The standings on LeagueSecretary.com haven’t been updated at press time, so I’ll comment if any of us earned weekly honors.
BBIS league to run marathon tournament on New Year’s Day
The BBIS league will run their first 10 game marathon invitational (entries must be approved by the league’s officers) tournament at Westgate Lanes on New Year’s Day starting at 11 AM. The tournament will be handicapped at 80% of 220, with BBIS league members using their current average in that league and others their highest USBC average in the last three years. Entry fee will be $80 in advance and $100 the day of the tournament, with lineage and expenses $35 and 50% of the prize fund going to the winner. There will be a 15 minute break after the fifth game, with Westgate Lanes offering a 20% discount to tournament bowlers at the snack bar and in the pub. The lane condition is expected to be a modified house shot (think the Kegel Navigation “Recreational” series). Bowlers may see John Hayes Jr. on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday nights for more information.
People’s Tournament note: Westgate Lanes will have the lane condition for next weekend’s People’s Tournament out for practice this weekend, and bowlers wanting to practice on the tournament condition are strongly urged to come down this weekend, because no practice will be allowed on the tournament lanes the weekend of the tournament.
Bob Hamilton tosses perfecto in Westgate Mixed
I sort of hate when someone throws a 300 down the high end of the center (in the Westgate Mixed league), since I usually don’t see those because I’m bowling myself. That said, I liked hearing that Bob Hamilton threw one tonight in that league. Congrats Bob! 😀
Dec. 4 league night recap
My Week 14 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)
As I noted on BowlSK, this was really my most consistent night of the season to date. Through the third game, I was matching my fewest open frames ever in a series until I chopped consecutive 6-10s on lane 25. Until then, I had only missed a 4 pin and a light split (the 4-5) in the second game (first game was a clean 208).
Result: 208-190-171=569
Average (42 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 182
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 547
For my teammates, Brian’s 176 first game and Pat’s 168 third game stood out; we won the first two games and ended up tying for total for 2.5 points.
Jessica Lowe throws 279 game in TNBA league
Congrats to Jess Lowe on a 279 game thrown last week in the TNBA league. 😀
Dec. 3 league standings update
The three points “Crazy Eights” won from “SR Spares” was enough to pass that team for 16th place, but we are now 18 points behind Team 16, who hold a five-point lead over “The Doables”. My team bowls “3s Company” tomorrow night.
Steve Dale Jr. rolls 299 game in Coke league
In the third game of tonight’s Coke league session, Steve Dale Jr. ran the first 11 strikes before a ringing 10 pin robbed him of a perfect game, the 299 which is now the high game in the league this season. Congrats Steve! 😀
Fall 2013 Week 13 virtual league results
“X-Factors” won five of seven from “Splits For Brains”, but “All Balls On Deck” won all seven from “5 Fingers of Destruction”, who had been in second, so that meant that we are now alone in second, but seven points behind the lead. As a team, we had the high game of the week (I believe for the second time in the season).
Shirley Major posts 721 in Patriots league
The Patriots league this year has a woman in it for the first time, and that woman, Shirley Major, threw a 269 high game in a 721 set last week. Congrats Shirley! 😀
Nov. 27 league night recap
My Week 13 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)
I was a little more consistent tonight, but always one bad game in there, it seems. I was over average largely on my spare game, but I still missed three 10s, which, how the night went, cost me 19 pins in count.
Result: 188-186-160=534
Average (39 games): 172
Average for last 9 games: 171
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 552
Team won three of four, with Pat being over average all night; however, I needed the first strike in the 10th third game for the other point and threw a bad shot.
None of us won “Turkey Shoot” prizes; however, I made it through two brackets last week, beating Kris Higgins in one and finishing second to Jeanne Bowker in the other for a $2 profit.
Nov. 26 league standings update
After winning one point from “The Doables”, “Crazy Eights” are still in last place (other than the vacant), one point behind “WTF Over” and “SR Spares” (our opponents tomorrow night) and 18 points behind the leaders, Team 16. Team 16 has lengthened their lead to six points over “The Doables”.
If I see that any of my teammates (or myself, for that matter) won a prize in the “Turkey Shoot”, I’ll note that in my league night recap post tomorrow night.
Sandi Litchfield posts 707 set in Westgate Mixed
I’m surprised she hadn’t done it this season until last week, but Sandi Litchfield did put up a 259 high game in a 707 set last week in the Westgate Mixed league. Congrats Sandi! 😀
Ray Fischer throws 290 game in Coke league
Ray Fischer ended the first third of the Coke league season in fine fashion tonight, throwing the back 11 after a spare for a 290 game. This also turned out to be the high game on the first “challenge” shot (the program sheet for which I previously posted), as they will start on another pattern next week. It is another pattern designed by Bill Holota of Kegel, but I don’t have the sheet for it available yet as the copier in the Westgate Lanes office either is not working completely right now or just doesn’t have color toner. I will post the new pattern when I have it available.
Got a little sidetracked, but congrats Ray! 😀
Rob Young posts 808 series in 2013 Bowler of the Year
Rob Young, before the Coke league tonight, brought something to my attention: He had games of 263 and 286 in qualifying for Bowler of the Year, and a 259 in his first match play game, and, being the first three games of the tournament, it qualified for an 800 series award (808 total). I already congratulated him in person on this (it was his first 800 series), but wanted to make sure it was noted here. 😀
Fall 2013 Week 12 virtual league results
“X-Factors” won only four of the seven points from “Turkey Hunters”, and thus fell to third, five points behind “All Balls On Deck”, who lead “5 Fingers of Destruction” by two points.
Individually, “Joe Bowler” of “5 Fingers of Destruction” submitted a 290 game last week.
Bill Major wins first BBA Bowler of the Year title
Congrats to Bill Major on winning his first Brockton Bowling Association Bowler of the Year title today. The results of the stepladder follow:
First match: Mike Carter def. Ryan Yelle 234-205
Semifinal: Bill Major def. Carter 236-193
Championship: Major def. Rob Young 265-215
Also congrats to Harry Thibeault and Rich Fulton, who each had a 299 game during qualifying.
A more detailed recap will (hopefully) come on the Brockton Bowling Association website, and a photo of the two final match bowlers is up on the association’s Facebook page.
Oct. 2013 People’s Tournament results
The People’s Tournament reported Daniel Nazzaro (Town Line Luxury Lanes, 190 avg.) as the winner of the event held on Oct. 20 at Westgate Lanes. Nazzaro defeated Shaun McIssac (Lanes & Games, 161 avg.) by a score of 235-212 (with handicap). Westgate Lanes bowlers cashing were Hakim Emmanuel (4th, 196 avg.), Rob Dickens (165 avg.), Gino Beniamino (201 avg.; reported as bowling out of Lanes & Games, but known by me to be one of the Coke league bowlers), and Philip Spera (162 avg.).
Remember, the next tournament, Dec. 14 & 15, will have a $20,000 guaranteed first prize, and sweepers for that tournament are ongoing at Westgate Lanes.
Tyler Perry shoots state youth record 876 set
Normally, I only post about big scores thrown at Westgate Lanes, but, if a score bowled elsewhere, particularly in New England, is notable enough (like Mike Violette’s back-to-back 800 series last season at North Bowl), I will mention it here, and that is the case today.
I’ve seen Alex Aguiar post on Facebook that Tyler Perry, already the youngest NEBA champion ever at age 16, threw an 876 series today in his youth league at Wonder Bowl, which is believed to be a new state record for youth bowlers. Congrats Tyler! 😀
Cindy Cabral wins women’s singles title at TNBA regional tournament
The TNBA reported that Cindy Cabral of Dorchester, MA, who bowls at Westgate Lanes in the Boston Rhythm & Bowling and BBIS leagues, was the women’s handicap singles champion at the TNBA Eastern Regional tournament, held on Nov. 9 & 10 at Brunswick Zone Carolier in N. Brunswick, NJ. Cindy threw a 621 scratch series for a 777 handicap score. Other Westgate Lanes bowlers did well in the tournament, so it is suggested to check the results index for links to the event results.
