The USBC reported that, by winning the New Hampshire state individual championship, Gilman Chamberlain out of Raymond High School became the first high school bowling champion in New England history. New Hampshire started sanctioning tenpin bowling as a co-ed varsity sport this winter season, with certified matches by high school teams leading up to this week’s state individual championship at Strikers East in Raymond, in which Chamberlain defeated top-seeded Nick Stilian of Pinkerton Academy by a score of 221-208 for the title in the Championship Flight, for bowlers with averages over 150. The Medal Flight, for those with averages under 150, was won by Jacob Martineau of Keene High School by a score of 145-119 over Nishon Radhakrishman of Souhegan High School.
New England crowns first high school bowling champion

I started "The Tenth Board" to chronicle my experiences during the road back to league bowling after my heel fractures in 1999 (it took me 7 years before I started thinking seriously about it). I now use the blog as a combination of a personal bowling journal and a news site mostly about Westgate Lanes (Brockton, MA) and its bowlers. View all posts by Rich

It has come to my attention that New Hampshire may not, in fact, have been the first state in New England to sanction high school varsity bowling. I came across this page (with video) of the Maine high school bowling championships.
