Ricky Sorn & Steven Nguyen win NAT doubles at Westgate

The Northeast Amateur Tournament site is being reworked (more on why later in the post), so I’ll have to run with this…

The Northeast Amateur Tournament reported on their Facebook page that Ricky Sorn & Steven Nguyen won the doubles event on Sept. 25 at Westgate Lanes over Sean Richard & Jim Ferguson. The score of the match wasn’t available, but I’ll add it when I have it. The NAT also reported that Sorn & Nguyen made the event back-to-back doubles titles for the first time in the tournament’s history. Also cashing from Westgate Lanes were “Mr. 900” Hakim Emmanuel & Keith Kaestner, and Tina Gannon & Bill Briggs (in Tina’s last tournament at Westgate before moving to Florida).

Jay Mantere announced during the tournament that the doubles event would be the last Northeast Amateur Tournament under the current format, but also that he is working with partner Jackie Van Buskirk on a new format, and that that tournament series, which may or may not keep the Northeast Amateur Tournament name, would debut in 2017. Jay will also be running a Scratch Classic Series tournament at Westgate Lanes on Dec. 10, which will be a six-game mini-marathon with top eight elimination finals. Jay has announced that Kegel Tower of Pisa will be the lane condition for that event.
