Dec. 19 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 16 bowling, frame-by-frame

Pleased with the score at the end, but each game had a different character, grinding out the spares in the first, the four-bagger in the second, and the strike-or-split nature of the third. The whole still raised my average.

Result: 189-191-176=556
Average (48 games): 169
Average for last 9 games: 179
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 537

Composite average (54 games): 172

Team won first & third games and total for 3 points. Third game was thanks to Si’s 203.

A couple of asides:

  • I ended up chopping my division’s Christmas Bowl money with Steve Geddes because we were the same number over average (75) last week. Si won in his division.
  • The new scoring system is able to produce desk printouts that show the spare leaves, so I’ll be relying less on my own notes.

2018-19 Week 15 league standings update

After winning four points from the vacant, Let’s MixEm Up is in 7th, 7.5 points ahead of Party of Six, who are three points ahead of Stacked, and 4.5 points ahead of both Last Empire and Spare Us. Livin on a Spare, who are immediately ahead of us, will be tomorrow night’s opponents.

I had the high series, both scratch & handicap, in the men’s “C” division last week, while Si swept the board in men’s “E”.

Dec. 12 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 15 bowling, frame-by-frame

This was a definite shot in the arm for Wednesday night. It was similar to my last Sunday night in that my second and third games were clean, although it didn’t score quite as high. There were also no missed single-pin spares.

Result: 169-212-192=573
Average (45 games): 168
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 535

Composite average (51 games): 171

Si & I actually put up matching 573s, with his having a 222 game. The four points against the vacant were easily won.

Dec. 5 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 14 bowling, frame-by-frame

I looked OK for my first two games, but there were just too many splits and washouts to overcome from in the last one.

Result: 176-179-132=487
Average (42 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 161
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 511

Composite average (48 games): 170

Last game was the telling one, as a high-handicap team started striking, a combo difficult to counter. Team did win the second game.

Nov. 28 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 13 bowling, frame-by-frame

I looked OK in Game 1, but a breakdown on 33 forced us to move, and I was never quite comfortable on the breakdown pair, where my old Hy-Road gave me my best look, but would sometimes over-react to the dry. Ball speed might have been the answer, but I was weak from getting over the flu that I had over the weekend.

Result: 171-145-161=477
Average (39 games): 167
Average for last 9 games: 157
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 539

Composite average (45 games): 171

Si is bowling better than me now, with a 513 last night, which helped us win three of four. My conversion of the 1-3-10 in the 10th third game was important, as we might have lost total if I didn’t.

Nov. 21 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 12 bowling, frame-by-frame

There seemed to be more oil downlane than usual last night, which meant I didn’t have to move much, but also made left-side spares tricky, as I missed a lot of them. The two washouts were likely a product of the lane condition, as well.

Result: 163-148-178=489
Average (36 games): 167
Average for last 9 games: 158
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 512

Composite average (42 games): 172

Our opponents didn’t have a legal lineup, so we were bowling for forfeit points, all four of which we won. Steve had one of his better games, a 135, in the second game to help us.

Something happened last night on one of the adjoining pairs that I’ll mention here: Jim Blyth, our league president, converted the 7-10 split for his first time. Nice going!

Nov. 18 Sunday Niters sub recap

Last night’s bowling, frame-by-frame

Moe Morrison suggested that I should’ve stayed in Sunday Niters and left my other league. She may have had a point, because I had, by far, my best night of the season subbing for Peter last night. I struggled a bit early, but was clean after the 4th frame first game, and had at least one strike in the 10th in each, punching out with six in the second game. As I said in the BowlSK comment, “I need more of these on Wednesday night!”

Result: 169-234-232=635
Average (6 games): 198
AVG+1 score for next time: 602

Composite average (39 games): 172

Eric covered my under-average first game with a 252 to win the only two points that were mildly contested in our sweep.

Sean Richard posts 300/824 in Malden; team shoots 1071 game, 3038 series

Sean Richard posted on Facebook that he had 234-300-290 for an 824 set last night in Malden. I’m tempted to say he has high average in that league right now. Nice bowling! 🙂

UPDATE: Brian Gaskill provided me the recap photo below, which shows the team, Rick O’Shea, had a 1,071 second game and a 3,038 series, both reportable to USBC headquarters. Fantastic! 🙂

Nov. 14 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 11 bowling, frame-by-frame

My execution was clearly better in the second game, though I thought I threw good shots to leave the 10s I missed in the third game. The missed 10s were stranger because I made the first two 10s that I left.

Result: 134-180-134=448
Average (33 games): 168
Average for last 9 games: 157
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 533

Composite average (36 games): 169

Si was absent first game again, but did help us win second game for our lone point.

Nov. 7 Brunswick Mixed recap

There wasn’t a standings update because Shawn was late getting to them and scores needed to be corrected for BowlerExpress.

My Week 10 bowling, frame-by-frame

My first game was promising, but then my spare game largely escaped me, though, strangely, I didn’t miss a 10 pin until the very end.

Result: 191-150-146=487
Average (30 games): 170
Average for last 9 games: 168
Next week’s AVG+1 score 540

Composite average (33 games): 171

Si was absent first game, but had a strong third game to help us win third game and steal total. It turned out I needed the second hit in the 10th first game, but didn’t get it.
