2017-18 Week 15 league standings update

Updating my league standings after Week 15:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning no points from Spare Change, Let’s Mix Em Up leads by a point over Dawg Pound, 1.5 points over Creeden’s Mustangs, and four points over Stuck With Us. Tomorrow night’s opponents are Gutt Er Done, which has three of my four teammates from last season.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning eight points from We Don’t Give a Split, The Three Stooges finished in 5th place for the first half. Ten Is Enough are the first half winners, by six points over Here for the Beer. The league will not bowl on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, so the second half will start for us on Jan. 7 vs. We Don’t Give a Split (yes, again).

Dec. 17 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 15 bowling, frame-by-frame

After a tournament day that didn’t go according to plan, I was eager to take my frustration out on the pins, and did it to the tune of my second high series of the season, the high of which also came in this league. I didn’t get off to a good start in the third game, or this might have been better, and you can also point to my single-pin misses as another reason.

Result: 215-243-194=652
Average (45 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 202
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 589

Composite average (87 games): 181

I carried my team the first two games, and Peter and Ed shot 246 and 200 respectively to help us take the third game by over 100 pins. It was the end of the first half, so we’ll see where we finished.

Ryan Yelle rolls 300/805 in Westgate Mixed

I’m not sure if he’s had 300 games here in tournaments (or what is now the Pepsi league), but two-time association Bowler of the Year and Hall of Famer Ryan Yelle had his first one in the Westgate Mixed league last night. Mark Condon recorded the video below for Snapchat, which Sean Richard arranged to have sent to me:

Congrats Ryan! 🙂

Update: An updated standing sheet showed that Ryan Yelle’s 300 game was also part of an 805 series, but the scores were removed from the scoring system by the time I made my inquiry. If the other two games can be determined, I’ll update this.

Update: The three games were 247, 300, and 258.

Dec. 13 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 15 bowling, frame-by-frame

Halfway through the first game, it looked like it would be a disaster, but I managed to take it off the sheet from the 6th frame for my 211, which was enough for an over-average night after a couple of small under-average games. There were a couple of single-pin misses, but I was back to over 80% on those for the night.

Result: 211-176-177=564
Average (42 games): 182
Average for last 9 games: 195
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 567

Composite average (84 games): 180

We had the “one hot opponent” problem tonight, as, if said hot opponent just bowled average, we would have won all four, but lost all four instead. Second place won three, so we’re still in the lead by a point, which will be formalized in the next standings update.

Stephen Major bowls 300 in His & Hers

Stephen Major’s first season as an adult bowler now includes a 300 game, as he posted on Facebook that he had one last night in the His & Hers league. The post included a video by Kevin Thibeault, but, not being sure if I have permission, I’m not sharing it; this post will be updated if I get it.

Update: Stephen gave me permission to use the video (Kevin recorded it on Stephen’s phone), so it is below:

Good bowling! 🙂

2017-18 Week 14 league standings update

The customary Tuesday league standings update:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning three points from Knock Em Down, Let’s Mix Em Up leads by four points over Dawg Pound, 5.5 points over Creeden’s Mustangs, and six points over Stuck With Us. Spare Change will be our opponents tomorrow night. For weekly highs, I had the high handicap game of the week for the men (division highs weren’t available at press time), and I can also report that Ed Miller, a member of both of my leagues, bowled a 706 last week for his first 700 series. 🙂
  • Sunday Niters: After failing to win points from Suzy’s Crew, The Three Stooges are in 6th place, 18 points behind Ten Is Enough, who are two points ahead of Here for the Beer, eight ahead of Suzy’s Crew, and ten ahead of Ball Busterz and We Don’t Give a Split, the latter whom are our opponents Sunday in the second and last position round of the first half.

Dec. 10 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 14 bowling, frame-by-frame

Pretty much regressed to the mean tonight, and, as usual, my spare game didn’t really help, with three missed single pins, two 10s and a 7, and ending the night with three open frames (two splits).

Result: 166-179-152=497
Average (42 games): 178
Average for last 9 games: 190
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 560

Composite average (81 games): 180

Team lost all eight points, with Peter bowling our only deuce game (212) in the third game.

Dec. 6 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 14 bowling, frame-by-frame

If I didn’t already have a 646 earlier in the season, this would have been my high series of the season in this league. I really feel I’ve been rolling it better than ever, and I really haven’t been missing single pin spares (there was one tonight, a 4 pin), as I’ve been near 80%, maybe over, in this run. That has helped me throw first ball with confidence.

Result: 255-204-184=643
Average (39 games): 182
Average for last 9 games: 195
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 582

Composite average (78 games): 180

Ralph’s 202 helped us crush the first game (we won by 186 pins), but we needed to win another game to be sure of three points, and that came in the third game, thanks to Tom’s 230.

2017-18 Week 13 league standings update

The customary Tuesday standings update:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After splitting 2-2 with Sweet Rolls, Let’s Mix Em Up leads by three points over Stuck With Us, four points over Dawg Pound, and 6.5 points over Creeden’s Mustangs. Knock Em Down are tomorrow night’s opponents.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning six points from Ball Busterz, The Three Stooges are in a tie for 4th place with that team and Suzy’s Crew (Sunday night’s opponents), 16 points behind Ten Is Enough, who are 10 points ahead of Here For Beer and 12 ahead of We Don’t Give a Split. The end of the first half looms with a position round next week.

Update: I forgot that I usually post the leaders’ opponents as the end of a half approaches. In Sunday Niters, Ten Is Enough will bowl against Broads With Balls, Here For The Beer is against the vacant Adam & Steve, and We Don’t Give a Split is against Ball Busterz.

Dec. 3 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 13 bowling, frame-by-frame

I approached some personal history tonight, as this was my high series since my last 700 series, my 706 on June 12, 2013. A slow start really kept this from being better, but I was clean after the 4th frame of the second game, stringing together six strikes in the second game and five in the third. I was in the pocket most of the night, only having to shoot two multi-pin spares (a split and a 6-10).

Result: 192-246-238=676
Average (39 games): 179
Average for last 9 games: 187
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 562

Composite average (75 games): 179

Team mostly rode my back, losing only the second game when Peter had a clunker.

Nov. 29 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 13 bowling, frame-by-frame

No deuces tonight, but I had only one game under average, and that by not very much. I had a couple of missed single pins, but I was spooked by stepping on my shoelace on the missed 3 pin, which I couldn’t stop the shot for because I was committed to it.

Result: 183-193-177=553
Average (36 games): 179
Average for last 9 games: 186
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 559

Composite average (72 games): 177

On Brian’s last night with us, team won the first two and lost the third by enough to lose total. The good news is that Si will be returning to my team next week.

2017-18 Week 12 league standings update

Updating my league standings after Week 12:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning all four from Minds in the Gutter, Let’s Mix Em Up leads by five points over Stuck With Us, six over Dawg Pound, and 7.5 points over Creeden’s Mustangs and Sweet Rolls (who we bowl against tomorrow night). For weekly honors, I had the high game (both scratch & handicap) in men’s “B”, and Tom swept high game & series (scratch & handicap) in men’s “C” (he had a 614 scratch series).
  • Sunday Niters: After failing to win points from Ten Is Enough, The Three Stooges are in 6th place, 16 points behind Ten Is Enough, who are six points ahead of Here For Beer and 12 ahead of Ball Busterz (Sunday night’s opponents), Suzy’s Crew, and We Don’t Give a Split. My 213 was mentioned in the weekly high scores.

Nov. 26 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 12 bowling, frame-by-frame

On a night that saw my single 10 pin be elusive, it was better carry in the third game that saved my night. The split conversion I had was a “slow motion” one, with the 7 falling just before the pins were swept.

Result: 153-171-213=537
Average (36 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 542

Composite average (69 games): 177

I was high on the team (by just a pin over Peter), but not on the pair. Team lost all eight to the leaders.

Kevin Coleman posts 300 in TNBA

Got word that Kevin Coleman had a 300 game last night for the TNBA league, but there’s a question of whether it qualifies for a USBC award, as it was a pre-bowl score after the regular league session. USBC rule 50-2 states that the 300 game award cannot be earned while pre-bowling unopposed, but there is one bowler I know (no names mentioned) who says otherwise.

Nice bowling anyway, Kevin. 🙂

Nov. 22 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 12 bowling, frame-by-frame

I’ve been fortunate in this recent Wednesday night run to have a great game cover my bad ones, but tonight could have been better, as well, as missing 10 pins, including three in a row to end the first game, probably cost me my 600 tonight.

Result: 142-247-173=562
Average (33 games): 179
Average for last 9 games: 196
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 572

Composite average (66 games): 177

Brian gave us the bad news (for us) that he accepted a job offer in New Hampshire and gave his two week notice to the league. He did help us to all four points tonight, with Tom joining me in the second game with a 255 of his own.
