I’ve noted scores by Pepsi league bowler Dave Kullas before, mainly for what he bowls in the Dave Smith Memorial Classic league in Hyannis. However, he also subs occasionally in the Tuesday Night Mixed league at the Ryan Family Amusements in Yarmouth, and I’m pleased to post that he had his first 300 game at that establishment last night. Nice bowling!

2017-18 Week 11 league standings update
The usual league standings update, after Week 11:
- Brunswick Mixed: After winning all four from Striking Gentlemen, Let’s Mix Em Up are the leaders, by a point over Stuck With Us, 3.5 points over Creeden’s Mustangs, and five points over Party of Five, Dawg Pound, and Last Empire. Minds in the Gutter are tonight’s opposition. Brian swept the scratch and handicap high scores in the men’s “B” division, and I’m thinking he won the division in our annual “Turkey Bowl” (most over average in each division the week before Thanksgiving week).
- Sunday Niters: After winning six points from Broads With Balls, The 3 Stooges are in 5th, eight points behind Ten Is Enough (who we bowl against on Sunday night), who lead Suzy’s Crew and Ball Busterz by four points and Here For Beer by six points.
Mark Ellis throws 299 in Westgate Mixed
Should be a first-time mention of this bowler: Congrats to Mark Ellis, with a 299 game last week in the Westgate Mixed league. 🙂
Pepsi assumes sponsorship of Monday classic league
As indicated by the above photo, Pepsi has assumed sponsorship of the Monday night classic league at Westgate Lanes, with the new name of the Pepsi-Cola Classic. I was told by a management source that Pepsi increased the added money in the prize fund over what the old sponsor was providing, with the old sponsor’s check being returned. Harry’s Westgate Pub continues to be the league’s co-sponsor.

My Week 11 bowling, frame-by-frame
It was a struggle to put anything together tonight, as the only time I had consecutive strikes was in the 10th frame of the second game (and a situation where they came on the same lane). My run of single-pin spares made was stopped at 35 with a 10 pin miss, but that was also my only missed single pin of the night.
Result: 141-171-162=474
Average (33 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 175
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 551
Composite average (63 games): 176
The second game was a disappointment, as that was Ed’s low game of a 569 night. Team did win the other two games and total.
Paris Cook fires 300 in Patriots league
As usual with this league, there may be more later, after I see an updated standing sheet, but I’m aware of at least one score from last night in the Patriots league: Paris Cook posted on Facebook that he had a 300 game. WTG! 🙂
Bobby Geddes throws 804 in Brunswick Mixed
He was a member of the Brunswick Mixed league when I joined, taking time away from it for college, and Bobby Geddes had what I believe was his personal high last night, posting 236-279-289, with a stone 9 derailing the 300 game in the third game, for an 804, his first 800 series. WTG! 🙂
Nov. 15 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 11 bowling, frame-by-frame
I was probably due to come back down after consecutive 600s in this league, but, if coming back down still meant I hit my +1 score, as it did tonight, I’d take it. Splits were mostly my undoing tonight, but I did convert on two of them (a 3-9-10 and a 5-7), and I’ve now made 33 consecutive single pins between my two leagues.
Result: 187-156-221=564
Average (30 games): 178
Average for last 9 games: 204
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 561
Composite average (60 games): 177
Brian was our real star tonight, as he had 254-211-265 for a personal high 730 series tonight. Team won all four.
2017-18 Week 10 league standings update
Updating my league standings after Week 10; Brunswick Mixed will be based on the BowlerExpress standing sheet rather than LeagueSecretary:
- Brunswick Mixed: After splitting 2-2 with Party of Five, Let’s Mix Em Up is in 2nd place, two points behind the leading Stuck With Us, with Creeden’s Mustangs 4.5 points behind the lead in 3rd, Last Empire five behind in 4th, and three teams six behind in a tie for 5th. For the weekly high scores, I had the high handicap game and second high handicap series for the men. My team bowls against Striking Gentlemen tomorrow night. Update: In my division (men’s “B”), only Kevin Stiger’s 684 scratch series was higher than my scores. The 269 scratch game is now also high for the season in the division.
- Sunday Niters: After winning six points from the vacant, The 3 Stooges are 12 points behind the leaders, Ten Is Enough, who lead three teams, Ball Busterz, Here For Beer, and Suzy’s Crew, by eight points. Broads With Balls will be Sunday night’s opponents.
Ethan Reyes fires 290 in junior travel league at Westport
This will be my first time mentioning this bowler for a league score: Congrats to Ethan Reyes, who posted a 290 game Sunday in the junior travel league at Holiday Lanes in Westport. 🙂

My Week 10 bowling, frame-by-frame
I was really second-guessing my ball choice in the first game tonight, as I thought I had a look with the Marvel Pearl, but underperformed, and I bowled much better when I went back to the Tropical Breeze (which I started practice with). All of my spare misses again were with multiple pins standing.
Result: 131-189-200=520
Average (30 games): 177
Average for last 9 games: 174
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 563
Composite average (57 games): 177
I sunk my team in the first game, as we were under the 498 we needed to win the points against the vacant. Peter did return tonight, and had a 251 third game to help cover for Ed.
Mike Carter posts 843 set in Cranston
I saw on Coke league bowler Mike Carter’s Facebook today that he shot 278-278-287 for a personal high 843 series in the Sunday Afternoon Mixed league at AMF Cranston Lanes. Nice bowling! 🙂
Rene Thompson records 290 game in Rhythm & Bowling
Belated congrats to Rene Thompson, who had a 290 game in the Boston Rhythm & Bowling league a couple of weeks ago (Oct. 22).
Brian Egan posts 300, Tony Attardo 299 in Patriots league
That I’m mentioning Brian Egan tonight for a 300 game in the Patriots league is nothing new. What makes tonight different is that I’m mentioning Tony Attardo, whom I’ve written about for other things before, notably his Brockton Bowling Association and NEBA Hall of Fame elections, for a score for the first time, with a 299 game.
Nice bowling guys! 🙂
Nov. 8 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 10 bowling, frame-by-frame
I’m on a nice little heater on Wednesday night right now. The BowlSK sheet linked above has the “best since” for my second game and series noted, but it should be said that I was thinking 700 after the second game, but just didn’t put enough quality shots together to end it. Once again, I made every single-pin spare, so worrying about not making those was not on my mind.
Result: 204-269-173=646
Average (27 games): 177
Average for last 9 games: 197
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 558
Composite average (54 games): 177
After winning the first game comfortably, my team really needed me in the second game to take the point; unfortunately, our opponents won the third game by enough to steal total for the 2-2 split.
2017-18 Coke league 2nd quarter lane condition
Junior informed me Monday night that he has selected Route 66 as the second quarter lane condition for the Coke league (and news coming about the league name soon). As usual, the link is to the top-view graph.
2017-18 Week 9 league standings update
My league standings update after Week 9:
- Brunswick Mixed: After winning three points from Stuck With Us in a position round, Let’s Mix Em Up is a point behind them in 2nd place, with Last Empire three points behind the lead in 3rd and Dawg Pound four points behind in 4th. Party of Five are tomorrow night’s opponents.
- Sunday Niters: After splitting four and four with Here For Beer, The 3 Stooges are 12 points behind the leaders, Ten Is Enough, in 5th place. Here For Beer and Ball Busterz are tied, four points behind the lead, in 2nd, with Suzy’s Crew eight points behind in 4th. Adam & Steve, essentially a vacant team now, are Sunday night’s opponents.
Steve Dale Jr. shoots 299 in Coke league
Steve Dale Jr., one of the inaugural NEBA Hall of Famers, put up a 299 second game last night, and it was in a big spot, as his team, Rick O’Shea, got the points they needed for first place in the Coke league’s first quarter position round. Nice bowling! 🙂
Shawn Syde tosses 300 in Sunday Niters
My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame
I followed up my Wednesday night with a much better Sunday night (comparing it to my two recent Sunday nights). I only missed one makeable spare and no single pins, and put together turkeys early and late in the second game for my 220.
Result: 186-220-177=583
Average (27 games): 177
Average for last 9 games: 159
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 549
Composite average (51 games): 175
Winning the second game by 168 pins (thanks to Ed’s 224, also) must have made Shawn Syde, one of our opponents, mad, because he proceeded to close out the night with a 300 game, and, indeed, if Shawn had bowled a better second game, his 800 was out there with a 288 first game. The teams split 4-4.
Nice bowling, Shawn! 🙂
Nov. 1 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame
I was due for a “correction” the other way on Wednesday night, and I got it tonight with my most consistent night of the season. I had no more than two open frames in a game (2nd game), and only missed one single pin (the 7 that started the night) and one other makeable (a bucket). Of my strikes, only two were not part of a string.
Result: 216-201-213=630
Average (24 games): 172
Average for last 9 games: 184
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 535
Composite average (48 games): 173
One of our opponents had a higher series than me, but we still won 1st and 3rd games and total from first place in a position round, so we’re now within a point of the lead.
2017-18 Week 8 league standings update
Updating my league standings after Week 8; Sunday Niters will be added later…
- Brunswick Mixed: After winning a point from Living on a Spare, Let’s Mix Em Up is in 2nd place, three points behind Stuck With Us, who we bowl against tomorrow night in a position round. Dawg Pound is five points behind the lead in 3rd, and Creeden’s Mustangs 5.5 points behind the lead in 4th.
- Sunday Niters: After winning two points from We Don’t Give a Split, The 3 Stooges are tied for 5th with Suzy’s Crew, eight points behind a tie for the lead between Ten Is Enough and Here For Beer (Sunday night’s opponents). Ball Busterz are two points behind the lead in 3rd, and We Don’t Give a Split six behind in 4th.
Tom Hedding bowls 290 in Patriots league
I’m able to mention “TomTom” Hedding for a league score for the first time this season, and that for a 290 game in the Patriots league, the league, of course, in which he set the association record average last season. Nice bowling! 🙂
Oct. 29 Sunday Niters recap
My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame
Just about anything I did tonight would have better than last week’s disaster, but this wasn’t what I had in mind, because I only had a double in the first and second games, and paid a penalty on most of my bad shots. I also didn’t close out well, because the second game was the only time I threw three balls in the 10th.
Result: 159-169-142=470
Average (24 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 162
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 544
Composite average (45 games): 171
Peter was absent for a third week, so we had to take a vacant instead of his blind. Ed had a 208 second game, and that produced the only two points we won.
Paris Cook fires 817 set in TNBA league
Congrats to Paris Cook, who put together 277-264-276 for a personal high 817 series tonight in the TNBA league. 🙂
Brian Egan posts 300/813 in Patriots league
Shout-out to Brian Egan, who posted 279-300-234 for an 813 series last night in the Patriots league. 🙂
Ethan Paquette bowls 299 in junior travel league at Westgate
I promised more coverage of the junior travel league this season, and I can report this week that Auburn bowler Ethan Paquette had a 299 game in the league last Sunday at Westgate Lanes. Nice bowling! 🙂
Roland Sandefur tosses 804 in Westgate Mixed
I’m always happy to post about a bowler’s first 300 or 800, and last night, it was Roland Sandefur’s turn for one of those, as he posted 289-279-236 for an 804 set, which was his first 800 series. Nice bowling! 🙂
Oct. 25 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame
Not quite what I had in mind to bounce back from Sunday night, but I was at least reasonably happy with my third game, which had a late double to cover one open frame. It was also a better night on my 10 pin, missing only one out of four.
Result: 164-139-195=498
Average (21 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 168
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 502
Composite average (42 games): 172
Ralph and Brian had good first games for the only game we won tonight.
Clay E. Hill shoots 290 in Patriots league
This was a familiar situation last season: I got a late score when the Patriots league standings were updated, and the late score this time was a 290 game by Clay E. Hill. Good job! 🙂
2017-18 Week 7 league standings update
Updating my league standings; I reserve the right to add the Sunday Niters update later:
- Brunswick Mixed: After winning four points from Spare Us, Let’s Mix ‘Em Up is in 2nd place, a point behind Stuck With Us for the lead, with Dawg Pound two points behind the lead in 3rd, Creeden’s Mustangs 3.5 points behind in 4th, and 5 Spares four points behind in 5th. Livin on a Spare will be our opponents tomorrow night, with a position round looming next week.
- Sunday Niters: After losing all eight points to Ball Busterz (and I failed to mention it was a position round previously), The 3 Stooges are six points behind that team in 4th, with Ten Is Enough and Here For Beer tied for 2nd, four points behind the lead. We Don’t Give A Split are this week’s opponents.
