Feb. 26 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 21 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

One of the worst nights of my bowling life, particularly in terms of pin carry and spare-making, but bowling seems to have a sense of irony, as well, as this is the first triplicate I ever remember having.

Result: 127-127-127=381
Average (63 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 154
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 583

Composite average (135 games): 174

I felt like I wasted a big night from Harry (743), but, in truth, we would have only tied the first game if I just made average.

Feb. 22 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 25 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

When it was clear I was pulling shots in the first game, I decided to try to combat it by actually moving my eyes right of the target, and that worked most of the rest of the night. My spare game may have benefited, as well, as I only missed one makeable spare (a 6-10, which I chopped) after the first game.

Result: 170-173-221=564
Average (72 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 174
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 549

Composite average (132 games): 175

In the first game, Donald had his best game I’d ever seen (161), but we still lost it by only three pins, and only won the second game, losing total by seven.

2016-17 Week 24 league standings update

Here are how my teams stand after Week 24 of the season; virtual league result is included:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After losing all four to Ebony & Ivories, Lane Ducks are tied for 11th with Ebony & Ivories, eight points behind Eileen On Me (tomorrow night’s opponents), who are two points ahead of Minds in the Gutter, three ahead of Sweet Rolls and Has Beens, and four ahead of Creeden’s Mustangs.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning six points from Adam & Steve, The 3 Stooges are tied for the lead with Here For Beer, two points ahead of We Found “B” (Sunday night’s opponents) and Suzy’s Crew, and eight points ahead of Avengers and Broads With Balls.
  • Virtual league: Lane Rangers won three of seven from Dream Team and are leading by four points over Splits & Washouts, six ahead of Big Guns 2.0, and 12 ahead of Dream Team and The Unbowlieveables.

Feb. 19 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 20 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I certainly was hoping for more after the first game, and, indeed, it was almost the “reverse century” in the second game, but I did save my 500 in the third game. My spare game could have been better, but I did convert both splits that I left.

Result: 222-123-169=514
Average (60 games): 177
Average for last 9 games: 163
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 562

Composite average (129 games): 175

Harry will be subbing for Peter the next few weeks, and Harry’s big first game (269) gave us a lead that was never really challenged. We did need the extra two points, and my double in the third game, along with Ed’s 206, helped decide it.

Curtis Batten bowls first 300 game in Raynham

Robbie Chappell, a bowler in the Thursday Night Mixed league at Ryan Family Amusements in Raynham, reported to me on Facebook that Curtis Batten, a member of that league, bowled a 300 second game tonight. Pending formal USBC certification, this will be the first 300 game bowled in that bowling center, which converted some of their duckpin lanes to tenpin in the summer of 2014.

Congrats Curtis! 🙂

Feb. 15 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 24 bowling, frame-by-frame

Tonight may have been one of those “turn the corner” nights because I was actually carrying most of the night, but multi-pin spares were my bane, because I didn’t make many of them. The sweetest part of the night was throwing a slow messenger at the 10 in the 3rd frame of the second game, as I haven’t thrown a messenger in quite a while.

Result: 204-179-165=548
Average (69 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 169
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 591

Composite average (126 games): 175

We were without Si, but we were bowling four against four, and the opponents that were there were all over average, with my team losing all four. Donald was over his average all three games.

2016-17 Week 23 league standings update

Updating my leagues after Week 23 of the season (including the virtual league result):

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning a half-point from Knock Em Down, Lane Ducks are in a three-way tie in points with Livin on a Spare and Creeden’s Mustangs, five points behind both Has Beens and Minds in the Gutter. The leaders are a point ahead of Eileen On Me and Sweet Rolls, and four ahead of 5 Spares. Ebony & Ivories are tomorrow night’s opponents.
  • Sunday Niters: As noted in an earlier Facebook comment to the cancellation note, our schedule picks up Sunday night vs. Adam & Steve, and the missed week will be made up at the end of the schedule.
  • Virtual league: Lane Rangers won five points from High Flush, and are leading by five points over Splits & Washouts, seven points over Big Guns 2.0, and 11 points over The Unbowlieveables.

Zach Thompson, Rich Fulton bowl 300 in Coke league

For the third time in the current segment of the Coke league, two perfect games were posted on the same night. The first of the two was in the first game by Zach Thompson, who many of you know is the tournament director of the Bay State Open. He’s sometimes said, “Always the videographer,” when he’s posted video of other bowlers’ 300s, and now we can say we have video of one of Zach’s own, below:

Zach’s 300 was followed in the second game by Rich Fulton, who has the most recent 800 series in the league (back in 2014), and the video of that is below:

Congrats to both! 🙂

Greg Andrews bowls 804, Mike Botelho 803, Sean Richard 300 in Westgate Mixed

Neither was the scoring limited to my league, as it turned out, as Greg Andrews led the way in the Westgate Mixed league last night with games of 279, 246, and 279 for an 804, followed closely by Mike Botelho, who had 266, 258, and 279 for an 803. Topping that all off, Sean Richard had the second 300 game of the night between the two leagues.

WTG! 🙂

Jake Tobin shoots 299/822, Dan Esdale 300/810 in Brunswick Mixed

There had never been an 800 series in the Brunswick Mixed league since I joined it until last night, and there are now two, as Jake Tobin led the way with games of 256, 299, and 267 for an 822, and Dan Esdale with 257, 300, and 253 for an 810. Ken Gerraughty’s video of Esdale’s last strike is below:

I had my camera going for Jake’s last shot in the second game, but, unfortunately for him, he left a 7 pin. It was still Jake’s first 800 series. Dan, of course, has had 300 games and 800 series before, but he told me this was the first time he ever put the two feats together.

Good job to both! 🙂

Feb. 8 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 23 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I felt OK about my night after the second game, but then the wheels fell off of the bus with three splits and a couple of other spare misses in the third game, including my only 10 pin miss out of five. I want to say I guessed right about the ball change in the third game, but still left two splits on the right lane.

Result: 146-181-129=456
Average (66 games): 172
Average for last 9 games: 168
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 548

Composite average (123 games): 175

I had a chance to win the second game after I doubled in the 10, but sent the shot wide for eight pins and a tie. Opponents won the other two games.

Planning a couple of posts for later.

2016-17 Week 22 league standings update

The usual league standings update (with the result in the virtual league) after Week 22 of the season:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After forfeiting to 5 Spares, Lane Ducks are now in 6th place, 1.5 points behind Has Beens and Minds in the Gutter, and a half-point behind Eileen On Me, Livin’ on a Spare, and Sweet Rolls. Knock Em Down are tomorrow night’s opponents.
  • Sunday Niters: The Sunday Niters league had the week off for the Super Bowl, and The 3 Stooges will be bowling against Adam & Steve when the league resumes Sunday night.
  • Virtual league: Lane Rangers won four points from Big Guns 2.0, enabling us to increase our lead over them to six points, with Splits & Washouts seven points behind and Dream Team 10 points back. There were two honor scores submitted last week, a 300 game by Smooth Stroker (Splits & Washouts) and a 297 game by sk8shorty01 (Dream Team).

Feb. 1 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 22 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

My first game was one of my worst recent efforts, but as bad as I was in that game, I was better in my other two to save a 525. I didn’t have a game without a split, getting two 7-10s and an 8-10 during the night.

Result: 126-202-197=525
Average (63 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 168
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 551

Composite average (120 games): 175

With Barry sick (meaning no Donald, either) and Si working late, we forfeited, but I still had to bowl for virtual league, if nothing else.

2016-17 Week 21 league standings update

Updating my leagues after Week 21 of the season, with the result in the virtual league included:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning 3.5 points from Team 12, Lane Ducks are leading Sweet Rolls by a half-point, Minds in the Gutter by 1.5 points, and three teams, Eileen On Me, Livin’ on a Spare, and Has Beens, by 2.5 points. 5 Spares will be tomorrow night’s opponents. Jeff had the high scratch series (476) in the men’s “D” division last week.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning six points from Suzy’s Crew, The 3 Stooges are tied for the lead in points with Here For Beer, two points ahead of We Found “B”, and four points ahead of Suzy’s Crew, Avengers, and Broads With Balls. The league will not meet this week (Super Bowl Sunday), so next week’s update will include our opponents for the following week in this league.
  • Virtual league: Lane Rangers won all seven from Team Square Balls and are now leading by five points over Big Guns 2.0, eight points over Splits & Washouts, and nine points over The Unbowlieveables. A member of The Unbowlieveables, explorer05, submitted a 300 game last week, his first entry in the league’s honor score list.

Jan. 29 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 19 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I had another bad night after working an association event, but this one was at least tempered by a good second game. The two splits in the third game were killer, as they kept me under 500 for the night.

Result: 137-215-147=499
Average (57 games): 177
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 542

Composite average (117 games): 175

Peter had the best night of us. Team won the first two games and almost stole the third; the two were won by enough for total and 6 points.

Shawn Coles posts 300 in Brunswick Mixed

It had been a long time coming for him, but Shawn Coles, my Wednesday league secretary, bowled his first 300 game in over a decade last night. In a first for this blog, I have video of the last shot, the first video on this blog from one of my own leagues:

Shawn had told me a long time ago that he’d never had a 300 with his wife, Jo-Ann, present, and that finally happened for him last night, as well.

WTG Shawn! 🙂

Jan. 25 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 21 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

After struggling for most of first two games, I saw, thanks to a Brooklyn strike, that I could open the lanes up, and that helped me not only finish out the second game, but start the third game strong. My spare game was spotty, and both of my single pin misses were in the first game, but I later converted a washout and a split (the 4-5).

Result: 150-193-189=532
Average (60 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 167
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 554

Composite average (114 games): 175

My 10 pin miss in the 10th meant a tied first game, and we won the other two and total.

A special post is coming tomorrow. Something happened tonight for a friend in the league that I was able to record.

2016-17 Week 20 league standings update

Updating my leagues through Week 20 of  the season, including the result for my virtual league team:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning four forfeit points from WTF (We’re The Five), Lane Ducks are tied for the lead with Eileen On Me and Sweet Rolls, two points ahead of both Team #12 (tomorrow night’s opponents) and Minds in the Gutter.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning six points from Ball Busterz, The 3 Stooges are tied with Suzy’s Crew for first, two points ahead of four other teams; as we have Suzy’s Crew for opponents Sunday night, it’ll be basically a position week for us.
  • Virtual league: Lane Rangers won all seven from 7 Baggers and are in first by a point over Big Guns 2.0, two ahead of Team Square Balls, and three ahead of Splits & Washouts.

Shawn Hagan, Barry Muise score 300s in Coke league

It appears that the Coke shot for this quarter is playing easy, even with the modification down to 5:1, as, for the second time in as many weeks, there were two 300 games last night. The first came in the first game by Shawn Hagan, and my Facebook video is below:

The other one was bowled by Barry Muise in the second game, which, again, I have Facebook video of, below:

Well done, both of you! 🙂

I don’t think I’m going to get a chance to get their photo, but Lights Out, team members Sean Richard, Hakim Emmanuel, Devon McGregor, and Shawn Hagan, won the Coke league’s second quarter. Congrats, guys! 🙂

Jan. 22 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 18 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

On a night I was hoping to follow up on a good Special Olympics day by my niece, I struggled to put anything together. There were no doubles and I missed a bunch of spares, with my 7 pin more my nemesis than the 10.

Result: 160-154-145=459
Average (54 games): 178
Average for last 9 games: 182
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 564

Composite average (111 games): 175

Except for the first game, my teammates picked me up for six points, with both Peter and Ed getting over 500.

Jim Ferguson shoots 299 in Patriots league

Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Jim Ferguson has had a few 299 games, the latest last night in the Patriots league, and, though I usually don’t show video for anything but a 300 game, I decided to post Sean Richard’s Facebook video here for one prevailing reason: You won’t often see the kingpin (5 pin) stop a 300 game.

Maybe next time, Jim! 🙂

Jan. 18 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 20 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

After the first game, I never really had it, with the second game exacerbated by my inability to cover a 10 pin. I made a ball change to my Tropical Breeze late in the second game to try to hold pocket, but that ball eventually wasn’t finishing.

Result: 180-135-146=461
Average (57 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 167
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 564

Composite average (108 games): 176

In a forfeit situation, Barry bowled the best of us, with Donald and Si also picking me up after the first game for all four points.
