Nov. 6 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

This was an over-average night, but could have been much more if I showed up for the third game. My problems on the right (ending) lane at the end were caused by not following through, but my shot in the 10th was better; I just couldn’t repeat it.

Result: 186-213-148=547
Average (27 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 174
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 550

Composite average (54 games): 181

If I’d bowled around my average third game, we’d have had a chance to win it, but the other team’s anchor put up a 277 that game, as it was. Team did win the second game.

Nov. 2 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I couldn’t make it three consecutive weeks with a 600 in this league, and just barely missed my average. I missed a couple of 7 pins in the third game that would have gotten me over my average again, but other than that, I was OK with my bowling tonight.

Result: 180-203-159=542
Average (27 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 195
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 572

Composite average (51 games): 181

Si was over his average all three games, with his high game of the season, a 190, enabling us to win the third game by enough for total. The third point was there in the first game if I converted my light split, but I whiffed on it.

2016-17 Week 8 league standings update

Updating my leagues through Week 8…

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning three points from Solid 10, Lane Ducks are tied for 3rd with Artie’s Angels, two points behind Spear the 10 Pin, who hold a point lead over Sweet Rolls. Spare Us is three points behind the lead in 5th and Solid 10 3.5 behind in 6th. As this week is a position round, Artie’s Angels will be our opponents.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning two points from Adam & Steve, The 3 Stooges lead We Found “B” by three points, Ten Is Enough by 11 points, and Here For Beer by 13 points. Sunday night’s opponents will be We Found “B”.
  • Virual league: 5 Kingpins lost all seven points to Team 6 and are now in 6th place, 14 points behind Big Guns, who lead AmExGoGoDub by six points, Team 6 by seven points, and Ballslingers by 11 points.

Oct. 30 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Tonight was frustrating overall, with an abundance of splits and washouts, and even a ball change to my IQ Tour Fusion in the third game didn’t improve matters. Result was my first Sunday night under 500 this season.

Result: 162-173-158=493
Average (24 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 176
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 551

Composite average (48 games): 181

The team largely shared my frustration, but we did manage to win the second game.

Oct. 26 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Tonight was a memorable night in more ways than one. Not only was it the first time I’ve had back-to-back 600s in this league since Dec. 8 & 15, 2010 (618 and 689), but it was also my first time ever that I’ve had 29 clean frames out of 30. My only “hole” was the 4th frame of the 2nd game, when I hooked past a 2-4-5 cluster and had the 5 stand out of that. This might have been 29 clean and under 600, but I struck out at the end for my 601.

Result: 197-191-213=601
Average (24 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 197
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 568

Composite average (45 games): 182

Team won first and third games and total against one of the teams ahead of us with a position round looming next week.

2016-17 Week 7 league standings update

The updated standings after Week 7, including my virtual league team’s result:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning one point from Artie’s Angels, Lane Ducks are tied for 5th with Livin’ on a Spare, a point behind a three-way tie for the lead between Sweet Rolls, Spear the 10 Pin, and Artie’s Angels, with Solid 10 (tonight’s opponents) a half-point behind in 4th.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning four points from We Found “B”, The 3 Stooges maintained a seven point lead on that team, with Ten Is Enough 11 points behind in 3rd and Suzy’s Crew 17 points behind in 4th. Adam & Steve will be Sunday night’s opponents.
  • Virtual league: 5 Kingpins won three points (second game & total) from Team 3, and are now in 3rd place, eight points behind Big Guns, who lead AmExGoGoDub by three points, with Team 6 nine points behind the lead in 4th.

Oct. 23 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 7 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I lost most of my carry after the first game, and my problems were compounded by six corner pin misses. I made a move back on the approach after leaving ringing 10s, but my only other move to try to get carry was at the end, when I made a one board parallel move in to try to avoid the 7.

Result: 195-161-171=527
Average (21 games): 184
Average for last 9 games: 188
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 570

Composite average (42 games): 181

Team won the first two games to maintain our lead on second place, but the team could have used a couple of made single pins from me in the second game to get the two for total.

Jim Ferguson shoots 299 at Wonder Bowl

Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Jim Ferguson told me that, last night, while subbing on Alex Aguiar’s team in the Twilight League at Wonder Bowl in New Bedford, he had a 299 game that looked like he’d get all of the breaks, squashing the rack on high hits on the 10th and 11th shots before throwing a good 12th shot, but leaving a 10 pin. WTG still, Jimmy! 🙂

Oct. 19 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 7 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I had my best night of the season to date tonight. I really was only in trouble in the 3rd frame of the second game, when I left a washout, but I made the spare, and only missed one spare in each game (but you might point to the 7 being off-spot for that miss). It was my first 600 series in this league since Dec. 3, 2014 (646) and also my highest series since then, as my only 600 series last year was the 612 on Oct. 11, 2015 in the Sunday Niters league.

Result: 194-199-222=615
Average (21 games): 178
Average for last 9 games: 190
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 551

Composite average (39 games): 181

Our opponents all pre-bowled, and they had two good games which we were hard-pressed to top. Team did win the first game.

2016-17 Week 6 league standings update

The updated league standings after Week 6, with my virtual league team’s result; as always, I reserve the right to update this post with Sunday Niters later.

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning two points from Eileen On Me, Lane Ducks are tied for the lead with Livin’ on a Spare, with Spear Game and Artie’s Angels (tomorrow night’s opponents) tied for 3rd, a point back, Eileen On Me and Solid 10 tied for 5th, a point and a half back, and Sweet Rolls two points back in 6th.
  • Virtual league: 5 Kingpins won all seven points from The Nobodys (what I named the vacant team), and are tied for 3rd with Team 6, six points behind Big Guns, who are three points ahead of AmExGoGoDub.
  • Sunday Niters (added 10/20): After winning six points from Suzy’s Crew, The 3 Stooges lead by seven points over We Found “B” and by 15 points over Here For Beer and Ten Is Enough. Sunday is a position round, so We Found “B” will be our opponents.

Oct. 16 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 6 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

It’s becoming more and more apparent that taking (most of) the summer off from bowling has improved my overall game, as my composite average is currently well over last year’s. Supporting this is the fact that I’ve already bowled nine games at least 200, where I had 16 between my two leagues all of last season.

Result: 217-185-169=571
Average (18 games): 185
Average for last 9 games: 187
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 563

Composite average (36 games): 179

Peter was actually our star of the night, as he had a 716 set with a 258 first game. Team won the first two games, plus total comfortably.

Oct. 12 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 6 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I really saved my best bowling for the end tonight, and it was a tight third game at the end. First game should have been better, as well, as all but one ball was dead in the pocket and I missed three 10 pins.

Result: 173-175-213=561
Average (18 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 175
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 524

Composite average (33 games): 178

My run of strikes near the end of the night was only part of a team third game win, as all five of us were over average, and we were bowling a fairly stacked team. With us winning the first game, as well, we split the points 2-2, and I couldn’t help but notice that the leaders forfeited.

2016-17 Week 5 league standings update

Updating my league standings (with virtual league result); Sunday Niters will be added later:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning three points from Ebony & Ivories, Lane Ducks are in 2nd place, a point behind Artie’s Angels. Sweet Rolls are two points behind the lead in 3rd, Eileen On Me (tomorrow night’s opponents) 2.5 points behind the lead in 4th, and Team 12 and Lickety Splits tied for 5th, three points behind the lead.
  • Virtual league: 5 Kingpins won five points from AmExGoGoDub, and are now in 6th, 11 points behind the leading Big Guns, who lead AmExGoGoDub by eight points, with Team 6 nine points behind in 3rd, and Ballslingers and Team 3 tied for 4th, 10 points back. Fin09, a member of Big Guns, submitted an 801 series last week, which was his league record 5th 800 series.
  • Sunday Niters (added 10/15): After winning seven points from High Rollers, The 3 Stooges hold a nine point lead over We Found “B”, 11 over Ten Is Enough, and 13 over Bowling Stones. Suzy’s Crew provides the opposition tomorrow night. All three of us made high score mention on the LeagueSecretary standing sheet for last week.

Oct. 9 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 5 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

This was definitely a night I bowled better than my score. Granted there were a few Brooklyn strikes in the run, but I hadn’t had the front seven in a while, and I was thinking a 700 might be possible midway through the second game. The 7-10 ending the night cost me my 600, but you can really point to the 10 pin in the second game and the 7 pin in the third game as doing me in.

Result: 235-189-171=595
Average (15 games): 184
Average for last 9 games: 182
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 558

Composite average (30 games): 178

My 595 was still high on the pair, and the team won seven points, tying just the second game.

Brunswick Scotch Doubles league to start Jan. 10

After the New Year, a scotch doubles league (scotch = alternate shot) will take the place of the Sportsmen league on Tuesday nights starting Jan. 10 and running for 12 weeks. Completion of the league will mean the bowler will receive a Brunswick performance ball. Cost of the league is projected to be $25/week, and details can be obtained at the desk (though I believe John Hayes will be league president).

Sean Richard throws 300/819, Chuck Paige II 300 in Patriots league

When “$eany Ka$h” bowls 300, he often combines it with two other nice games, and tonight was one of those cases, as he had games of 260, 300, and 259 for an 819 series in the Patriots league, which should be the first 800 series at Westgate this season. And neither was Seany alone tonight, as Chuck Paige II threw a 300 game of his own.

Congrats to both! 🙂

Oct. 5 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 5 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Both nights I’ve missed 500 so far this season have been on Wednesday night, but I’ve also had nights like tonight to give me hope, my third game notwithstanding. I was able to put something together late in the first game and parts of the second game, though the second game really should have been clean if not for single pin misses.

Result: 181-204-157=542
Average (15 games): 171
Average for last 9 games: 174
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 527

Composite average (27 games): 175

Si tried out a wrist support tonight, and he was better once he got used to it, as he was over average after the first game, which helped the team win the last two games and total.

Brackets started in the league tonight, as well, but I stayed out of them, and, given my bowling might be better without the pressure of brackets, it’ll be up in the air whether I’m in them.

2016-17 Week 4 league standings update

Once again, updating my league standings, including the virtual league’s result:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning three of four from Knock Em Down, Lane Ducks are tied for 2nd with Solid 10, a point behind Artie’s Angels. Striking Gentlemen and Spear Game are two points behind the lead, and Knock Em Down and Sweet Rolls are three back. Ebony & Ivories are tomorrow night’s opponents.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning six of eight from Here For Beer, The 3 Stooges are leading by six points over Bowling Stones and eight over Here For Beer. High Rollers are Sunday night’s opponents.
  • Virtual league: 5 Kingpins failed to win points from Big Guns, who are now in the lead by three points over AmExGoGoDub and Ballslingers, and six over Team 6; we are now nine points behind the pace in 6th.

Oct. 2 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 4 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I bowled one of my better overall games the first game (a clean 209 that was on Dutch 200 pace until I doubled in the 10th), but it was quickly followed by a bad one, punctuated by a couple of bad breaks at the end. I missed some spares in the third game, as well, but that game also had the other double of the night.

Result: 209-139-174=522
Average (12 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 175
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 553

Composite average (24 games): 175

Team finally lost a game (the second one), but Peter rebounded with a 248 third game to help us take that game and total. The six points were rather important, because we were bowling the second place team.

Sept. 28 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 4 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Tonight was rather frustrating, as I missed a couple of spares, but put a couple of doubles together in the first game, and then couldn’t strike much the rest of the night. I left the 4-5 twice in the second game, and a couple of splits and my only single-pin miss of the night bit me in the third game.

Result: 176-156-146=478
Average (12 games): 168
Average for last 9 games: 164
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 508

Composite average (21 games): 175

Barry put a couple of nice games together and was high on the pair with a 555. Team won three of four (first two games and total by 100+ pins) with Jeff absent.
