Jan. 17 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 19 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

If six pins under average can be considered turning a corner, given the way I’ve been bowling on Sunday nights recently, I’ll take it. I was actually looking a little bit good for 500 until five straight open frames showed up to ruin it in the third game, but I saved what score I had in the game with a double 9th and first in the 10th. The 190 second game was also my best in six weeks.

Result: 148-190-151=489
Average (54 games): 165
Average for last 9 games: 149
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 511

Composite average (111 games): 167

Team needed my strike in the 10th second game for the points, but we got flat outbowled in the third game. Opponents also won the first game. All three of Rachel’s games were over her average tonight.

Jan. 17 Brunswick Mixed standings update

With the three points from Spare No Expense, Seven Deadly Pins is tied for second out of the gate with six other teams, with only Has Beens (our opponents Wednesday night) ahead of us in pinfall in the tie. Jorge’s Hoe’s was the only team that won all four points to start the second half.

Update: Jeff’s pre-bowl was good enough for high scratch game and series last week in the men’s “D” division.

Winter 2016 virtual league ramp-up

The new virtual league began this week, and it’s only a four-man team for this go-around. My teammates are Fin09, Gohokies, and TimL. Fin09 is one of the most accomplished individual bowlers in the league (in terms of honor scores), and TimL happens to be a former Classified division national champion, so it should be interesting “bowling” with those two. Team name is the one I had in mind when I made my summer league return, Mad Blogger & Co.

Jan. 13 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 19 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I still need to get rid of the spare misses, but I did start well, and ended the night on a six-bagger to get over my +1 for the 169 average in this league. I wasn’t bowling that great heading into the last frames, but I made a move inside and everything seemed to click.

Result: 185-151-214=550
Average (57 games): 169
Average for last 9 games: 183
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 529

Composite average (108 games): 167

I was high man on the pair, but both Barry and Donald were absent and couldn’t pre-bowl Sunday. Jeff did pre-bowl and chipped in a 225 third game, and the team won first and third games and total to start the second half with three points.

Dec. 12 Sunday Niters standings update

After winning two points from Ten Is Enough, Pin Pals have remained in last place, 16 points behind Suzy’s Crew, who lead Adam & Steve and The Minions 2 by two points, Split Happens by three points, Bowling Stones and OSIMAS by six points, and three teams by eight points. We bowl against Lexa next week.

As close as I could tell from the standing sheet on LeagueSecretary.com, Lee had the high game of the week with his 266, but I’m not sure about his series.

Jan. 10 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 18 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

My first game tonight was such a disaster that even two games around my average couldn’t prevent my average in this league from dropping another two pins. A “back to basics” approach with my Marvel Pearl saved what score I had.

Result: 105-169-164=438
Average (51 games): 165
Average for last 9 games: 144
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 502

Composite average (105 games): 167

Lee was under average until a 266 third game put him over 600 for the series, which propelled us to our lone points.

Jan. 6 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 18 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I told Lee before I left Sunday night that I had my IQ Tour Fusion at home, and he suggested I bring it, as he thought I needed one of my stronger pieces. One game of practice before league confirmed his thought, and, while I wanted my first game back, I ended my league bowling tonight with 20 clean frames. Definitely something to build on. 🙂

Result: 139-197-217=553
Average (54 games): 168
Average for last 9 games: 175
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 512

Composite average (102 games): 168

The team had our best night of the season to end the first half, as we had a series over 3,100 with handicap and won all four points. The tie for the position ahead of us split their match 2-2, with us starting two points behind them, so there’s at least a three-way for 15th.

I had my best night in brackets of the season last week, as I beat Barry in two brackets and was second to David Chin in a third for a $7 profit on the night.

Jan. 5 Sunday Niters standings update

After failing to win points from High Rollers, Pin Pals are in last out of 16 teams, 12 points behind Suzy’s Crew, who lead Split Happens by a point, Lexa by two points, and five teams by four points. Ten Is Enough will be the opposing team Sunday night.

Individually, Lee was tied with Michael Simmons for high game of the week (258).

Jan. 5 Brunswick Mixed standings update

After winning three points from Bi-Polar Bowlers, Seven Deadly Pins are in a tie for 17th and will bowl against Right Turn Clyde tomorrow night in the last position round of the first half. As previously mentioned, Lost Empire 2 has already wrapped up the first half in the league.

EDIT: Since the original post, the standings on LeagueSecretary.com were updated, and I had both the scratch and handicap high game and series in the men’s “C” division last week.

Jan. 3 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 17 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

While I recovered a little bit on Wednesday night, my Sunday night bowling has taken a dive, to the point where I have a higher average on Wednesday night again. An adjustment to my wrist positioner suggested by Lee helped prevent the ball from squirting right on me on release, but I still couldn’t put more than one good shot together.

Result: 134-146-136=416
Average (48 games): 167
Average for last 9 games: 150
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 544

Composite average (99 games): 167

Lee was high man on the pair tonight, largely because of a 258 second game, and Rachel was over her average in all three games, but no points were won.

2015-16 mid-season round-up

With most of the leagues now halfway through the season, I devote my usual post to the highs at Westgate Lanes to this point, based on the available league standing sheets, for both the men and women. A few rules:

  1. High average is based on a minimum of 36 games bowled in the league.
  2. Youth bowlers are included with their gender, where applicable.
  3. The first three games count toward series in the leagues that bowl four games in a series (Tuesday Scratch Sportsmen and BBIS).

Men

Average: 228.3; Rob Young (Thursday Night Patriots, 45 games)
Series: 819; Sean Richard (TNBA)
Game: 300; Sean Richard (2), Dan Esdale, Ed Alfieri (Westgate Mixed), Kevin Stiger (Brunswick Mixed), Rob Young (2), Steve Travers, Tim Woodley, Kevin Thibeault, Danny Khuu (Thursday Night Patriots)

Women

Average: 205.4; Tina Gannon (Coke Classic, 45 games)
Series: 745; Tina Gannon (Coke Classic)
Game: 288; Laura Beaudet (Brunswick Mixed)

Dec. 30 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 17 bowling, frame-by-frame

It was good to end the 2015 calendar year on a positive, as I hit my +1 for this league on the button tonight. First game was clean, and I only missed three makeable spares all night (out of 19), two of them 10 pins in the third game which cost me a better night.

Result: 198-190-161=549
Average (51 games): 168
Average for last 9 games: 168
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 558

Composite average (96 games): 168

Jeff was absent, but the team still had our best night of the season with a 3,034 series with handicap, which yielded three of the four points, with total becoming interesting in the third game thanks mostly to Jackie Mula’s 222 for our opponents. Everyone on our team who was present was over average for the night, with Barry also in the 500s with a 529.

Dec. 27 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 16 bowling, frame-by-frame

The 7th and 8th frames of my second game may have been my night’s highlight, as they were back-to-back split conversions (a 2-4-10 and a 2-7), which set me up to save a 141 with a double after going open the first four frames and five of the first six. Also, while I had so few of them to shoot at, I didn’t miss a single-pin spare.

Result: 146-141-160=447
Average (45 games): 169
Average for last 9 games: 158
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 552

Composite average (93 games): 168

Team only won the first game; we really should have lost the second game by more after trailing by 100+ pins midway through, but we rallied in the late stages of that game to lose by only enough to still be leading for total.

Dec. 23 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 16 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

It was another night of bad shots and frustrating carry when I did hit the pocket. The difference from Sunday night was that I was at least making my 10 pin, though carrydown from the open bowlers before us made the left side tricky.

Result: 156-148-172=476
Average (48 games): 167
Average for last 9 games: 163
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 549

Composite average (90 games): 168

I had the best night on the pair, but Si actually bowled better than me third game, which we won by enough for total after losing the first two by a combined 74 pins.

Dec. 20 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 15 bowling, frame-by-frame

Tonight was rather frustrating, punctuated by my inability to make my 10 pin. I had no more than a double at any time, and only two strikes total in the third game.

Result: 167-170-151=488
Average (42 games): 170
Average for last 9 games: 171
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 534

Composite average (87 games): 169

The team night went pretty much the same as the first time against this opponent: Won the first game, then got killed in the other two for total.

The tie for 5th a point behind us had one of the teams win all eight, so we ended up in 5th place, with the team that was in 6th position leapfrogging us for 4th. The first place team, Macs, won all eight and the first half.

Dec. 16 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 15 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I wasn’t carrying much tonight, and missing three 10 pins didn’t really help, as I generally paid for my bad shots, too.

Result: 148-178-161=487
Average (45 games): 167
Average for last 9 games: 159
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 521

Composite average (84 games): 169

The entire opposing team pre-bowled, and we won all four, thanks to all of my teammates being over average for the night.

EDIT: I forgot to check the brackets for the results from last week, but Shawn did give me $2 back for that week, meaning I finished 2nd in one of them.

Dec. 15 Brunswick Mixed Standings update

After winning a point from Sweet Rolls, Seven Deadly Pins stand in 19th place, a point and a half ahead of Bi-Polar Bowlers and 25 points behind Lost Empire 2, who are nine points ahead of Team 14. 4 BAGA will be the opposition tomorrow night.

EDIT: Meant to also mention that this week is the league’s annual, “Christmas Bowl”, which, like the “Turkey Bowl” before it, gives a prize to the bowler in each average division with the most pins over average for the night.
