Nov. 2 league night recap

My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

It seemed I took a big step backward tonight, and, in particular, I couldn’t seem to make anything I needed to hook at.

Result: 158-177-135=470
Average (27 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 176
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 549

Brian was the only one on the team with two games over average tonight, and the only one on the pair with a game over average in the third game; the latter was enough for us to win the point, but we lost the lion’s share of points again. For the other team, Ken Snow notably had his first game over 200 to start the night.

Shirley Major, Paul M. Chase score big in Thursday Handicap Doubles

The big scores Thursday night were not limited to the Patriots league, as the Thursday Handicap Doubles league had a couple worth mentioning…

First, Shirley Major posted the first 700 series by a woman at Westgate Lanes this season by throwing a 266 high game in a 712 series. Also, Paul M. Chase joined the fun by tossing an 11 in a row 290 game. Paul finished with a 769 set.

Congrats to both Shirley and Paul! 😀

Fall 2011 Week 7 virtual league results

“JaMMeRs” had a winning week last week by winning the first game, tying the second game, and winning total pins against “Wrecking Balls” for four total points. My virtual team is now tied for 9th in points with “Rocket 5,” 13 points behind a tie at the top between Teams 12 and 4.

The league has now reached the halfway point.

Oct. 31 league standings update

After taking only one point from “The Mustangs,” “Pinfall Wizards” became tied for 5th in points with “Bottoms Up!”, 9 points behind “The Mustangs,” who lead “Outta Da Guttah” by 2.5 points. My team’s first meeting with the defending champions, “The Incredibowls,” will be Wednesday night.

Individually, my 665 with handicap was the men’s high handicap series of the week. 😀

Jim Donaher runs 12 strikes in Brockton Ten Pin

Congrats to Jim Donaher on throwing a perfect 300 game Tuesday night in the Brockton Ten Pin Invitational league. When I was told about the game, Marcia wanted me to also note that this is Jim’s first perfect game in over 50 years as a league bowler at Westgate Lanes.

I’ll note the series when I see it in the updated league standings. Congrats again Jim! 😀

Oct. 26 league night recap

My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

After my lesson with Ray, this may have been the breakthrough I was looking for. I just missed 600, but I only had one open frame in each game, two of those on splits. My spare game was there pretty much all night, as well, as I was close to 95% on “makeable” spares, and count the 10 pins: 7 of them I could shoot at, and 6 of them made. 😀

Result: 185-223-191=599
Average (24 games): 176
Average for last 9 games: 181
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 548

The team had three members over average in all three games, but our opponents bowled well, too, so we still lost two games and total pins. Oh well, at least I didn’t hurt my team by making big mistakes tonight. 🙂

Oct. 23 league standings update

After being swept by “Bottoms Up!”, “Pinfall Wizards” fell to 5th place in the standings. We have a chance to close distance on the leaders (“The Mustangs”, by a point and a half over “Outta Da Guttah” and 7 points over my team) Wednesday night, as we’re scheduled to face them.

Oct. 19 league night recap

My Week 7 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

My night the other night was not great, but not terrible, either. I only missed a couple of spares in the “easy” category (one a 10, of course, but I made the other one I had an opportunity to shoot at), and also converted on a couple of the splits (a 4-5 and, later, a 4-7-9, which I don’t usually convert). In the end, I only missed my +1 by a single pin.

Result: 195-168-160=523
Average (21 games): 172
Average for last 9 games: 173
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 520

As for the team, it seemed Shawn swept us all by himself, as he posted a 765, a new personal best for him, he told me at the end of the night. Indeed, a missed single pin and a nose shot that left a 3-6-9-10 (which he made) were the only things that kept him from being an 800 threat. The latter leave was the only blemish on a 276 second game.

Fall 2011 Week 5 virtual league results

This is the first of a series of catch-up posts, as my connectivity issues appear to have now been resolved for the long term.

“JaMMeRs” had our first winning week of the season in Week 5, in fact taking all 7 points from Team 2. As a result, we’ve moved up two places to 9th, 13 points behind Team 4, who have assumed the league lead by 3 points over “Wrecking Balls.”

Oct. 17 league standings update (with note)

After losing the lion’s share of points to “Deadwood” last week, “Pinfall Wizards” remain in 3rd place, three points behind “The Mustangs” and a point and a half behind “Outta Da Guttah.” My team faces Shawn’s team, “Bottoms Up,” for the first time this season on Wednesday night.

Note: Virtual league results will be delayed until I get my desktop machine back and have done the week’s score entry and posted the results.

Oct. 12 league night recap

This post is late due to continuing computer problems (which some of you know about)…

My Week 6 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

My night seemed to suffer from multiple personality disorder. I needed the second game for my psyche (I hadn’t had a game over 200 in the new season until that point), but that was quickly followed by my worst game of the season so far. The last game led Steve Geddes, who was bowling anchor for our opponents, to comment that that was the worst game he had ever seen me bowl.

While I mention Steve, there was a light moment in the 4th frame of Game 2. I sent it wide, and it looked like I was going to leave the 2-4-7-8, but the 2 and 4 fell late, causing him to comment that the extra pinfall might have actually hurt my spare chances. I calmly reset myself, picked up the spare (by no means easy), and then turned to say to Steve, “Who said it hurt my chances?” 😀

Result: 171-214-127=512
Average (18 games): 172
Average for last 9 games: 169
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 524

Carl and Pat were the stars the other night, as both had 2 games of at least their average. Still, we could only win just the second game.

Right now, I’m just hanging on until my lesson in the coming week.

Oct. 9 league standings update

After taking all four points agains “Warren’s Girls,” “Pinfall Wizards” now stand just a point in back of “The Mustangs” in first place and a half-point behind “Outta Da Guttah” for second place. “Deadwood” provide the opposition for my team Wednesday night.

Oct. 5 league night recap

My Week 5 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Tonight was a bit of an improvement, although a spare game which held me in good stead in the first game betrayed me (with 3 missed 10s) in the third game. I did make my +1, however, so I will take it.

Result: 190-146-193=529
Average (15 games): 173
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 535

Team took all four, but I got the sense the other team lost it more than we won it. To be fair, one of the members of the other team was bowling her first night since being cleared to bowl after a broken leg and was not at her best.

Sept. 28 league night recap

Sorry for the late post, and I’ll explain why after I link up the BowlSK sheet…

My Week 4 bowling, frame-by-frame

As I sort of alluded to on Facebook, I did not get very much sleep the other night, so my performance last night suffered. That said, missing 3 straight easy spares in the second game was inexcusable. I did, however, figure out something that helps me pick up spares on the right side: I need to walk toward the middle arrow instead of my third arrow target, which should put my swing’s line through the target…if I drift right, it usually ends up in the gutter.

Result: 169-137-174=480
Average (12 games): 172
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 527

Just about everyone else on my team had at least 2 games over their average. We might have picked up another two points, but our opponents, particularly their bowlers later in the order, got hot in the third game, and we lost that game by enough to also lose total, so it was a 2-2 split.

As a final note, Lou, my teammate from the past summer, gave me a suggestion on how to play these lanes, so that’s something I’ll try next week, preferably in practice first if I can make it in.

Fall 2011 Week 2 virtual league results

“JaMMeRs” won the first game again last week; however, this time, the margin was not by enough to take series total from Team 12, so the result was 5-2 in favor of the latter team. My team stands in a tie for 8th (out of 14 teams) with Team 13 (whom we trail on scratch pinfall). The deficit to the lead is 7 points, with the lead being held by “Wrecking Balls,” “Trip 6s,” and Team 4 (listed in order of scratch pinfall).

Sept. 25 league standings update

After taking all four points from “Bowling Stones,” “Pinfall Wizards” moved into a tie in points for third place with “The Mustangs” after the third week of the season. “Warren’s Girls” took over the league lead, a point ahead of “Outta Da Guttah” (the tie for third is just a point and a half off of the lead). “Yes – We Have A Girl” provides my team’s opposition this week.

Sept. 21 league night recap

My Week 3 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

The skinny on my night tonight was that I actually found something I liked with the Hy-Road; I just need to get more consistent with that. My spare game continues to be spotty, but I made more than I missed in the first game until I went sheet from the 9th frame.

Result: 189-168-167
Average (9 games): 176
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 536

Berta and Brian overcame their first night jitters to both go over their respective first night averages in all three games. Team took all four points, getting the first game with me knowing I needed at least the first strike in the 10th.

Fall 2011 Week 1 virtual league results

Thanks to a big 289 game from “metguy,” “JaMMeRs” won the first game over “The Angry Birds”, however, we lost the other two. The first game was still enough to win the point for series total, so the split was 4-3 in our opponents’ favor. Largely because we had the second high series of the first week (in which we had high game), we stand on top of the teams with 3 points in 8th place. Team 13, “Wrecking Balls” (different team than last winter, but still with one of the members of last winter’s team), Team 4, and “Trip 6s” all won 5 points in Week 1 to stand at the top of the standings, and they are listed in order of scratch pinfall.

Sept. 18 league standings update

After the Sloanes’ averages were figured in, “Pinfall Wizards” ended up taking three points from “Dee’s Boys II” (renamed that night). This gives us four points after two weeks, tying us for 5th in points with “Mustangs.” “The Incredibowls” swept their match last week and hold a single point lead over “Yes We Have A Girl” (last year’s “5 G’s” minus one of their male members and bringing in a female friend). “Bowling Stones” provide the opposition for my team this week.

Fall 2011 virtual league ramp-up

I just wanted to note before the first week’s results became known that, unlike the two virtual leagues that ran last season, this fall’s edition is just a four-man league running for 14 weeks (still with more bowlers than either league last season). My teammates for the fall virtual league are “JW123”, “Matrix900”, and “metguy”, and the team name is “JaMMeRs” (combining the first initials of all 4 team members).
