Congrats to Tim Major, who threw a 300 game in his doubles event today in the state tournament at AMF Holiday Lanes in Somerset. Tim told me it was his fifth 300 game, but his first one in the state tournament. He paired with Mike Litchfield to post a 1,588 doubles score. 😀

May 2012 Northeast Amateur Tournament results
The NAT reported that Alton Nichols defeated Jake Amaral for the title this past Sunday at Westgate Lanes by a score (with handicaps) of 250-227. Westgate Lanes league bowlers in the top 16 included Brian Gaskill (semifinalist), Keith Tantillo, David Chin, Paul Loberman, and Jason Oh.
The NAT reported 198 entries for this event, which is a new tournament record.
May 2012 Northeast Amateur Tournament notes
I was around for the end of the first squad and all of the second squad for the NAT today, but there were a couple of high scores by Westgate Lanes bowlers in the first squad. For starters, Hakim Emmanuel, on his birthday, had a 290 first game, but the squad belonged to Jason Sherwood, with games of 289, 254, and 269 for an 812 scratch and 851 handicap, making him the high qualifier. He told me it was his first 800, but the only thing I replied with, basically, was, “It’s too bad you can’t get your ring for it.” There was one other bowler I didn’t know (probably not a Westgate Lanes bowler) and I forgot his name who, averaging 141, ended his qualifying set with a 280; it was probably the game of his life.
April 2012 TNBA no-tap results
Below are the results of the no-tap singles tournament held on April 21 at Westgate Lanes, run by the TNBA Boston Bowling Senate:
- Eric Durden 923

- Henry Webber 858
- Chris Gunn 855

- Dennis Johnson 852
Of course, Ernie Goodman and Dennis Johnson split the 7th and 8th place prizes.
The reason for the honor score filing of this post is that Tom Hedding related to me that he bowled a natural 300 game in this tournament. Congrats to all who did well in this tournament.

Congratulations to the award winners, and to Sean Richard, who had a perfect 300 game in the tournament. 😀

TNBA tournament note
The Boston Bowling Senate of the TNBA will run a no-tap singles tournament at Westgate Lanes on Apr. 21. I didn’t have all of the other details at press time, but I’m assuming TNBA cards can be purchased on-site, and that the entry fee is $25 (as it’s been in the past).
2012 scholarship tournament note

2012 youth honor squad results
Not sure if this qualifies as a league or a tournament post, so I put it in both categories…
The youth program ran its honor squad on Saturday, for which bowlers qualified by earning a singles patch during the season. The high scores in each age group are below; scores are handicap, I believe, except for the scratch division.

Sunday notes (includes announcement of Hall of Fame Dinner)
A few notes to wrap up the day-to-day from the Brockton Bowling Association tournament:
- The closest approach to an honor score today came from Brian Cooper to start singles, as he had a 289 game in which he had 11 in a row on the line on the final ball, but threw a shot that normally leaves the 2-8-10 in which the double-wood part of the leave fell late, leaving the 10 standing.
- Ed Roberts’ team, Montgomery, shot 2,707 in the team event yesterday, which represents an average of better than 225.
And a stray one from other action: Rob Young, the Brockton Bowling Association president, told me he converted the “Big 4” this past week in the Coke league.
Hall of Fame Dinner set for May 5: The Hall of Fame Dinner was announced before the team squad today for May 5 at Harry’s Westgate Pub & Grill (inside Westgate Lanes). Ticket information will be announced soon. Sadly, there will be no tournament that weekend.
Ed Roberts throws 816 set in team event of BBA Championships
Definitely the highlight of the third day of the Brockton Bowling Association championship tournament today was Ed Roberts in the team event, as he posted games of 258, 279, and 279 for an 816 series. His team, which also included Alex Aguiar, Gino Beniamino, and Vin D’Aleo, largely followed his lead, as they posted a second game of 998 (four-man team), and I’ll comment on their series tomorrow when I look at the leaderboard (provided I have wifi access, as I didn’t really have it today or I would’ve posted this sooner).
2012 Brockton Bowling Association championships, first weekend
This weekend was the first weekend of the Brockton Bowling Association’s 50th championship tournament and, while there were no crazy scores, I can relate that I saw Keith Tantillo convert the “Big 4” (the 4-6-7-10) during his doubles event today (I had to miss yesterday because of a commitment to my family). One thing I did do for the association was post the weekend’s raffle winners (for a ball and two pairs of shoes) to our Facebook page.
Something I did do today that I haven’t done in close to two years was take my bicycle to the lanes. I had been shy about making the trip up on my bike because of the road construction that had been going on, and that wrapped up before this winter; most other times I’ve been there since then, I’ve had to take my bowling gear with me, which means no bike but either a cab or the BAT bus. I do want to take my bike out more, however, not only for my general health, but also to get my legs in better shape for bowling.
Feb. 2012 People’s Tournament results
The People’s Tournament reported that Mindy Hardy (Strikers East, 204 avg.) defeated Zach Leverant (Westgate Lanes, 180 avg.) by a score of 263-216 (with handicaps) in the title match of the event held on Feb. 26 at Strikers East. Among the 16 cashers, Maya Christie (135 avg.), Rosemarie Daniels (165 avg.) and Mike Major (208 avg.) represented Westgate Lanes; Craig Glatky (168 avg.) represented North Bowl.
Rich Fulton leads 8 Westgate Lanes cashers in Feb. 2012 NEBA at E. Providence Lanes
NEBA reported that Rich Fulton was a semifinalist at the event held on Feb. 25 & 26 at East Providence Lanes. The posted prize list also lists Alex Aguiar, Danny Khuu, Keith Tantillo, Donie Corneau, Tony Bennett, Rich LeCain, and David Chalifoux as the other cashers who bowl in a league at Westgate Lanes. Rich Reynolds won his third NEBA title by defeating Eric Copping, who won the previous NEBA event, by a score of 244-224 in the title match.
2012 Tri-City mixed doubles official results
The official results of last weekend’s Brockton/Foxvale/Tri-City mixed doubles tournament are posted below. There was an error on a name in the Word document I was sent, but I have corrected it in this post (after letting Rose Hamilton know about the error).
Handicap
- Brian & Candy Shea 1,508
- Tania Chudy & Rick Fallon 1,502
- Chris Johndrow & Mike Fowler 1,443
- Mike & Sandi Litchfield 1,407
Scratch
- Danielle Barros & Barry Muise 1,347
- Marsha Hutchinson & Chris Carter 1,327
Congrats to all of the cashers! 😀
2012 Tri-City mixed doubles Day 2
I was back today to watch the second day’s squad, and there weren’t many more really big scores, with possibly the highest being a 265 by Tim Major. Rose Hamilton promised to Facebook the results to me in 3 days (when they become official), so there’s one more post about this tournament coming up.
2012 Tri-City mixed doubles Day 1
I usually am not around for both squads of Tri-City’s mixed doubles tournament, with Saturday usually being the day I’m busy with something else, but I found myself doing nothing on Saturday this year, so I was present for the weekend’s first squad. The scores weren’t crazy, but some of the higher ones I saw were a 278 by Chris Carter (the Brockton Bowling Association’s reigning Bowler of the Year), a 269 by Will Cabral (I mentioned his wife Cindy in the previous post; he’s a regular at the People’s Tournaments), and a 259 by Sandi Litchfield (whom I always see on Wednesday nights except for the summer). We’ll see whether any of these scores figure into the prize list.
Storm DeVincent, Jon Van Hees cash in 69th US Open
The PBA reported that New England bowlers Storm DeVincent (Westford, MA; T23rd) and Jon Van Hees (Charlestown, RI; 35th) have cashed in the 69th US Open at the Brunswick Zone Carolier in N. Brunswick, NJ. DeVincent averaged better than 208 in his 18 games of qualifying, while Van Hees’ average was 206. The cashers’ qualifying round was due to get underway at press time.
February 2012 Adult/Junior results
The Adult/Junior doubles tournament yesterday had 9 entries in the Junior/Senior division and 12 entries in the Bantam/Prep division. The prize winners follow:
Junior/Senior
- Adam Johndrow & Henry Webber 1,477
- Cameron Attardo & Susan Marple 1,370
Bantam/Prep
- Anthony & Junior Rivera 1,505
- Taylor Harris & Hakim Emmanuel 1,438
Two of the adult bowlers had 11 in a row games, and both figured in the prize list, as Henry Webber had a 298 game and Hakim Emmanuel a 290 game.
Congrats all around. 😀
Stephen Dale Jr. finishes 2nd in True Amateur Tournaments Amateur Nationals
The True Amateur Tournaments website reported that Coke Classic League bowler Stephen Dale Jr. finished second in the 2012 Amateur Nationals held this past week at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The champion was Stuart McMillian of Scotland, whom Steve relayed to me on Facebook bowled a 266 game in the final shootout to his 227. Congrats to Steve on his good result in this megabuck tournament.
Where the TAT runs many events throughout the year, I’ll be adding their website to the sidebar listings, under the “Tournaments” category.
January 2012 People’s Tournament results
The People’s Tournament reported that Jayme Silva (Wonder Bowl, 205 avg.) was the winner of the event held on Jan. 21 and 22 at Westgate Lanes, defeating Cindy Cabral (Westgate Lanes, 165 avg.) by a score (with handicaps) of 237-177 in the title match. Representing Westgate Lanes, Keith Tantillo (200 avg.) was a semifinalist, and Elliot Miller (180 avg.) was also in the top 8. Elsewhere in the Brockton Bowling Association area, Herb Brown (185 avg.) represented Kingston Ten Pin in the semis, and Charles Donovan (190 avg.) was in the top 8 representing North Bowl.
2012 USBC Open Championships oil pattern
The pattern chart for the oil pattern for this year’s USBC Open Championships may be found by clicking here. I am posting it here because not only may it be the pattern for the Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Fame Classic (they used last year’s pattern in the Hall of Fame Classic last year), but I also heard that the Coke Classic League will be bowling on this pattern for the last third of their season.
When I pressed Ray for his thoughts on the pattern Friday, he told me he thought you’d have to get in deep on this because the bulk of the oil stops at 27′ with 12′ of buff area on the back of the pattern. On the kick-off show for the Open Championships, however, it was said you don’t want too much angle too soon, and that you’ll have to manage your launch angles, meaning I may struggle on it turning my hand too soon, but it would also present problems for bowlers that like to loft it. If I get a chance bowl on it, either in a Monday practice or at the Hall of Fame Classic, I’ll let everyone know how I do.
