Congrats to Auburn Lanes’ Jackie Evans, who, bowling for Lawrence Tech, posted a six-game score of +50 in her sectional competition to qualify for the women’s Intercollegiate Singles Championship, which will take place next month at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, KS. 😀

Shirley Major throws first 300 game in Patriots league
It seems Shirley Major has done it all in her Westgate Lanes career, including the old women’s Massachusetts state record of 817 in 1996, but she had never bowled a perfect game until tonight in the Patriots league. Jason Sherwood got the final three strikes of the game, and his video is below:
Congrats Shirley! 😀
Christine Major bowls 288 game in His & Hers
It’s been a while since I’ve reported a score by a woman, but Christine Major had a fine 288 game tonight in the His & Hers league, and was just a pin shy of 700 for the night. WTG Christine! 😀
2015 Mass. state tournament information
As usual, I make a post annually when I have all of the information on the year’s state tournaments:
- The open state tournament, as I’m sure my readers know, will be at Westgate Lanes April 25-26, May 2-3, May 9-10, and May 16-17. Mail-in entries will close April 11, and the entry form can be downloaded from the Brockton Bowling Association here.
- The women’s state tournament will take place at Brunswick Zone Lowell May 9-10, May 16-17, and May 30-31. Mail-in entries close April 1 (unless schedule is filled sooner), and the entry form can be downloaded from the Mass. Women’s Bowling Association here. Note: For the first time, optional scratch events will be offered in the women’s tournament.
- The 50th youth state tournament will take place at AMF Chicopee Lanes on April 25-26 and May 2-3. Entries will close on Feb. 25, with an entry form available from the Mass. youth association here.
Shirley Major wins Westgate debut of RI Ladies Classic

The following is the order of finish of the cashers in yesterday’s RI Ladies Classic event:
- Shirley Major
- Courtney Parenteau
- Tina Gannon
- April Raines
- Amy Aldridge
Shirley won the final match over Courtney 235-207 (This is a handicap tournament, but both bowlers in the final match were bowling scratch.). Shirley and Courtney are pictured above.
Thank you and congrats to the 19 bowlers who came out, and to the cashers. Thank you also to Fran Varin, the tournament director, for allowing me to post his photo of the finalists. 🙂
RI Ladies Classic to make Westgate Lanes debut Jan. 24
I keep saying that anything that improves opportunities in bowling for women is good for bowling in general, and I’ve recently learned that the RI Ladies Classic, after seeing a number of Massachusetts women entering their tournaments, has chosen to host their next tournament, on Jan. 24, at Westgate Lanes for the first time. They have made a flyer available on their Facebook page, which will be added to the “Local/New England” sidebar list. Note: The entry fee, $40, is waived (free) for first-time RI Ladies Classic participants.
Bob Hamilton shoots 300, Sean Richard 299 in Patriots (includes team honor)
Congratulations to Bob Hamilton on a perfect game tonight in the Patriots league; congrats also to Shirley Major, as Tim Major told me she shot 236 in that game, making the game a 536, better than the 526 game they had the week before the Thanksgiving break (and, of course, a mixed doubles honor game). 😀
Congrats also to Sean Richard, with a 299 game tonight! 😀
Christine Major throws 288 game in His & Hers
She was probably hoping for a better night than a 611, but Christine Major did have a 288 game in that tonight in the His & Hers league. WTG! 😀
Sandi Litchfield throws 2nd career 300 in Westgate Mixed
One of the other things I did catch tonight was the second perfect game thrown by Sandi Litchfield, which makes her the first woman with two sanctioned 300 games at Westgate Lanes (Tina Gannon also has two 300 games at Westgate Lanes, but one of those was in the People’s Tournament, which is unsanctioned.). Congrats Sandi! 😀
Bob Hamilton throws 826 set in Patriots league; Team also qualifies for honors
Congrats to Bob Hamilton, with games of 279, 257, and 290 for an 826 set tonight in the Patriots league. Moreover, I’ll link his daughter Stephanie’s Facebook photo of the desk printout here, as, given that, he and Shirley Major threw a 526 third game and a 1,506 series, both of which are national honor scores for a mixed doubles team. Congrats to Shirley for this, as well! 😀
Nov. 17 Tri-City fundraiser note
The Tri-City USBCWBA is once again running their annual Christmas basket raffle, which will benefit the Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL). Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased either at the Westgate Lanes desk or from any member of the Tri-City board of directors. The drawing will be held on Dec. 18.
Laura Beaudet shoots 270 game in Brunswick Mixed
Leave it to me to miss a good score by a woman in my own league, but Laura Beaudet had a nice 270 game three weeks ago (Oct. 15). WTG Laura! 😀
Denise Chamrin shoots 273 game in Westgate Mixed
A quick check of the Westgate Mixed league standings alerted me to the fact that Denise Chamrin bowled a 273 game last week. WTG! 😀
2014 women’s senior state tournament note
I’ve already noted that Westgate Lanes will be hosting the men’s state senior tournament, but the women’s state senior tournament will be held on Nov. 8 & 9 at AMF Auburn Lanes; entry flyer available at the desk.

Sandi Litchfield throws 279/749 in Westgate Mixed
Also tonight, Sandi Litchfield had games of 279, 245, and 225 for a 749 set in the Westgate Mixed league. WTG! 😀
Shirley Major throws 286/706 in Patriots league
I don’t have the games in order, but, despite a 153 game in there, Shirley Major also had games of 286 and 267 in her 706 set in the Patriots league Thursday night. WTG Shirley! 😀
Shirley Major posts 723 in Patriots league
The one woman in the Patriots league, Shirley Major, had games (not necessarily in order) of 247, 263, and 213 for a 723 set the other night. WTG Shirley! 😀
Jessica Lowe throws 711 series in TNBA
And I have a woman other than Sandi Litchfield to mention: Jess Lowe had games of 233, 246, and 232 (these should be in order) last week in the TNBA league. Congrats Jess! 😀
Sandi Litchfield goes 280/712 in Westgate Mixed
This is getting to be old hat: Sandi Litchfield followed up her 300/795 of last week with a 280 game in a 712 series last night. Keep it going! 😀
Sandi Litchfield throws perfecto
Not many women at Westgate Lanes have bowled a 300 game in our history (Five previously: Sue Sutter {unsanctioned}, Kris Voss, Tina Gannon {see note in comments}, Jessica Lowe, and Melissa Peterson), but Sandi Litchfield joined that club tonight with her first perfect game in the second game of the Westgate Mixed league. She actually had a shot at the women’s state record after a 277 first game and needed to double in the 10th third game to have a chance at an 800 set, but she finished with a 218 for a 795.
Way to go again, Sandi! 😀
Steve Sousa’s video of Sandi’s last strike is below:
Sandi Litchfield bowls 280 game in Westgate Mixed
Sandi Litchfield’s run of 700 series in the Westgate Mixed league stopped last week with a 687, but I could still mention her for last week because a 280 was one of her games. Way to go, Sandi! 😀
Sandi Litchfield throws 729 set in Westgate Mixed
Sandi Litchfield had a much better night than me tonight…in fact, she’s had a lot of those of late, with tonight being a 248-259-222=729 performance. WTG Sandi! 😀
Sandi Litchfield throws 745 in Westgate Mixed
Sandi Litchfield caught me after bowling tonight and told me she threw another 700 tonight in Westgate Mixed, a 745 with games of 218, 256, and 269. Congrats Sandi! 😀
Tina Gannon throws 300 in People’s Tournament
I’m usually at least around Westgate Lanes for tournaments, but opted not to go today for the People’s Tournament because I wanted to watch the finals of the Brunswick Euro Challenge (which was streaming on BowlingDigital.com), but Tom Hedding, through a post of the video on Facebook, indirectly informed me that Tina Gannon shot a 300 game today in defense of her title from last month. I’ll have to get TomTom’s permission on the video again before I upload it to YouTube and post it here.
Congrats Tina! 😀
Note: The results will, of course, wait for the tournament to post them on their website.
EDIT: As promised (and it was just waiting for the go-ahead from TomTom), the video of Tina’s final strike:
I’m not sure, but Tina may now be the first woman with two 300 games at Westgate Lanes.
Shirley Major posts 279/703 in Patriots
Congrats to Shirley Major, who had a 279 high game in a 703 series last week in the Patriots league. 😀
Sandi Litchfield posts 727 set in Westgate Mixed
Sandi Litchfield has been on a nice little run in the Westgate Mixed league the last couple of weeks, because she, on the same night Bob Hamilton shot his 801 series, posted a second back-to-back 700 set with a 727. One of the games was a 247, but I’ll have to ask her what the three games were.
Congrats again, Sandi! 😀
Sandi Litchfield posts 728 set in Westgate Mixed
Congrats to Sandi Litchfield, with a 246 high game in a 728 set last week in the Westgate Mixed league. 😀
Chris Major posts 729 set in His & Hers
Congrats to Chris Major, with games of 267, 264, and 198 for a 729 series this past week in the His & Hers league! 😀
Tina Gannon posts 288 game in Coke league
Consider this a case where I forgot about my “rules” about scores shot by women, even when I saw the game in question: Tina Gannon had a 288 game in the Coke league last week (Feb. 17). Congrats Tina! 😀
