Sept. 23 Sunday Niters recap

I think I did mention that I’d be subbing on my Sunday Niters team instead of being a regular bowler, and my first opportunity to sub was last night, for Peter.

Last night’s bowling, frame-by-frame

Back-to-back good nights, but a little more consistent last night. My biggest problem seemed to be chopping the 6-10, but I also only missed one single pin (a 10, but I didn’t leave it often).

Result: 194-161-199=554
Average (3 games): 184
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 556

Composite average (12 games): 169

If our anchor (Eric Healy) got the second hit in the 10th second game, it would have been all eight, but we had to settle for six.

As administrivia, a limited number of Sunday Niters-related links are back in the “Author’s links” list, but standings likely won’t be there.

Sean Richard bowls 100th 300 game in TNBA league

It was always going to be a matter of where and when, not if, Sean Richard would bowl his 100th perfect game, and he made those of us at Westgate glad that it came at not only his home house, but also on the most famous pair of lanes in the house, 47 & 48, or “Hakim’s pair”, last night in the TNBA league. There is a video account of the last shot, as well, provided by Grant Henderson III, and is below:

Congrats $eany! 🙂

2018-19 Week 2 standings update

After winning a point from Party of Six, Let’s Mix Em Up is in a three-way tie in points for 12th with Last Empire and 5 Spares. Party of Six and 10th Frame Magic are tied for the lead, with Creedens Mustangs and Tuckin’ Fenpin in a tie for 3rd, a point behind, and The Fun Team and Livin on a Spare two points behind the lead. Sweet Rolls are Wednesday night’s opponents.

Si “swept the board” when it came to division highs (men’s “D”) for the week, tying Philip Yuen for high scratch game.

2018-19 Week 1 standings update

Let’s Mix Em Up won one point, the second game, over Creeden’s Mustangs, putting us in 11th (by pinfall tiebreaker) in a 15 team league. Party of Six was the only team that won all four in the first week, and we bowl against them tomorrow night.

The divisions are close to set, so I can mention that Si had high handicap game & series in the men’s “D” division.

Sept. 5 Brunswick Mixed recap (start of 2018-19 season)

First off, I’ve decided to cut back to just my Wednesday league, as I didn’t know if bracket commissions would be able to cover both leagues this season. Second, I have a fractured team, with Kathy having cataract surgery and Thomas deciding not to return. Joining me and Si is Steve Sommers, who, because of gait problems, just stands and throws, but he does seem to understand ball motion. Expecting Kathy to return later in the season, we kept the team name the same.

My Week 1 bowling, frame-by-frame

I want to attribute this to summer rust, but my second game was better because of my spare game, and my double in the third game capitalized on a Brooklyn strike.

Result: 124-171-157=452
Average (3 games): 150
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 454

Si was steady, and Steve put together a four-bagger third game to help us. We won’t know about points until the first standings update.

Of course, the links in the sidebar section about my bowling now reflect the new season, but the spreadsheet log won’t be fully set up until I know my league’s end pairs.

Westgate Warriors president Zach Thompson posted in the closed Facebook group that the first three matches of the UBA season are set, and that they include an early home match on Oct. 7 vs. Mill City Mayhem. The opener is on Sept. 16 in Lowell vs. NE Nightmare, with Nov. 4 @ Silver Lanes being a position round. The full schedule should be known sometime next month.

In their latest newsletter, the Northeast Amateur Tournament announced Paris Cook as the winner of their special One-Ball event on July 29 at Wamesit Lanes in Tewksbury after defeating Andrew Young in the final match, the score of which was unknown to me at press time. In the One-Ball event, competitors had to use the same ball for first ball as well as all spares in qualifying and in the elimination finals.

2018 Mass. senior tournament set for Oct. 27-28 in Auburn

What is likely the first event to be held by the new merged Massachusetts state association will be the 2018 state senior tournament, to be held on Oct. 27 & 28 at AMF Auburn Lanes. New this year will be that the senior tournament will have open and women’s divisions. I have attached a copy of the entry form here (Word format). Note: Mail-in entries close Oct. 20, but walk-in and re-entries are allowed, closing 30 minutes prior to the start of each squad.
