Junior informed me Monday night that he has selected Route 66 as the second quarter lane condition for the Coke league (and news coming about the league name soon). As usual, the link is to the top-view graph.
2017-18 Week 9 league standings update
My league standings update after Week 9:
- Brunswick Mixed: After winning three points from Stuck With Us in a position round, Let’s Mix Em Up is a point behind them in 2nd place, with Last Empire three points behind the lead in 3rd and Dawg Pound four points behind in 4th. Party of Five are tomorrow night’s opponents.
- Sunday Niters: After splitting four and four with Here For Beer, The 3 Stooges are 12 points behind the leaders, Ten Is Enough, in 5th place. Here For Beer and Ball Busterz are tied, four points behind the lead, in 2nd, with Suzy’s Crew eight points behind in 4th. Adam & Steve, essentially a vacant team now, are Sunday night’s opponents.
Steve Dale Jr. shoots 299 in Coke league
Steve Dale Jr., one of the inaugural NEBA Hall of Famers, put up a 299 second game last night, and it was in a big spot, as his team, Rick O’Shea, got the points they needed for first place in the Coke league’s first quarter position round. Nice bowling! 🙂
Westgate Warriors rout Darkside at Apple Valley Bowl
The Westgate Warriors began the interdivision portion of their schedule Saturday at Apple Valley Bowl in Plantsville, CT, routing The Darkside 38-2. The Warriors were led by Bill Beck, making his Warriors debut with a 761 in scratch, Jim Bessette (718 in scratch), Zach Thompson (664 in handicap 1), Jon Hester (656 in handicap 1), and Brian Egan (660 in handicap 2).
Tom Hedding wins 2017 BBA Bowler of the Year title
In the post above, the Brockton Bowling Association reported that Tom Hedding won their annual Bowler of the Year tournament today at North Bowl Lanes after defeating Jon Hester, 227-161 in the final match. Hedding was the top seed for the stepladder, and Hester first defeated Jim Burt, 227-203, then Danny Khuu in the semifinal match, 214-204, to reach the final match.
The association reported a record 60 entries for today’s tournament.
Shawn Syde tosses 300 in Sunday Niters
My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame
I followed up my Wednesday night with a much better Sunday night (comparing it to my two recent Sunday nights). I only missed one makeable spare and no single pins, and put together turkeys early and late in the second game for my 220.
Result: 186-220-177=583
Average (27 games): 177
Average for last 9 games: 159
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 549
Composite average (51 games): 175
Winning the second game by 168 pins (thanks to Ed’s 224, also) must have made Shawn Syde, one of our opponents, mad, because he proceeded to close out the night with a 300 game, and, indeed, if Shawn had bowled a better second game, his 800 was out there with a 288 first game. The teams split 4-4.
Nice bowling, Shawn! 🙂
Sean Richard bowls two 300 games in RI city doubles
The “century watch” is just about on now for Sean Richard, as he had 300 games #90 and #91 in separate doubles squads today in the Rhode Island city tournament at Lang’s Bowlarama. Seany, I just hope I’m there to see #100. 🙂
Nov. 4 Adult/Junior doubles results
Results of today’s Adult/Junior doubles tournament at Westgate Lanes:
Senior Division
- Shane & Mike Litchfield 1,450
- Jerome Betsey Jr. & Russ Warmington 1,402
Prep/Junior Division
- Cody Esdale & Mike Simmons 1,397
They weren’t honor scores, but a couple of games I’ll mention were a 289 by Mike Litchfield and a 274 by Jerome Betsey, who had the high series for the junior bowlers with a 736.
Congrats! 🙂
Tom Hedding throws 300/878 in RI city tournament
“TomTom” Hedding has thrown off big sets before, but he had a true monster of one today in the Rhode Island city tournament at Lang’s Bowlarama, posting 279-300-299 for an 878 in his singles event (which appears to be his favorite event, as he also holds the Mass. state tournament singles record).
WTG! 🙂
Update: Tournament director Bryan Rhodes informed me that Hedding’s 878 is a RI city tournament singles record, and the 4th highest series ever bowled in the state.
Qwadaris Rembert wins DTS event at Lang’s
Late getting to this, but, as the post above indicates, one of the new Coke league bowlers, Qwadaris Rembert, won the Oct. 7 installment of the Digibowl Tournament Series at Lang’s Bowlarama in Cranston, RI, also mentioning that he was the high qualifier (940, 4 games) on the Middle Road lane condition.
Good bowling! 🙂
Nov. 1 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame
I was due for a “correction” the other way on Wednesday night, and I got it tonight with my most consistent night of the season. I had no more than two open frames in a game (2nd game), and only missed one single pin (the 7 that started the night) and one other makeable (a bucket). Of my strikes, only two were not part of a string.
Result: 216-201-213=630
Average (24 games): 172
Average for last 9 games: 184
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 535
Composite average (48 games): 173
One of our opponents had a higher series than me, but we still won 1st and 3rd games and total from first place in a position round, so we’re now within a point of the lead.
2017-18 Week 8 league standings update
Updating my league standings after Week 8; Sunday Niters will be added later…
- Brunswick Mixed: After winning a point from Living on a Spare, Let’s Mix Em Up is in 2nd place, three points behind Stuck With Us, who we bowl against tomorrow night in a position round. Dawg Pound is five points behind the lead in 3rd, and Creeden’s Mustangs 5.5 points behind the lead in 4th.
- Sunday Niters: After winning two points from We Don’t Give a Split, The 3 Stooges are tied for 5th with Suzy’s Crew, eight points behind a tie for the lead between Ten Is Enough and Here For Beer (Sunday night’s opponents). Ball Busterz are two points behind the lead in 3rd, and We Don’t Give a Split six behind in 4th.
Tom Hedding bowls 290 in Patriots league
I’m able to mention “TomTom” Hedding for a league score for the first time this season, and that for a 290 game in the Patriots league, the league, of course, in which he set the association record average last season. Nice bowling! 🙂
Oct. 29 Sunday Niters recap
My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame
Just about anything I did tonight would have better than last week’s disaster, but this wasn’t what I had in mind, because I only had a double in the first and second games, and paid a penalty on most of my bad shots. I also didn’t close out well, because the second game was the only time I threw three balls in the 10th.
Result: 159-169-142=470
Average (24 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 162
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 544
Composite average (45 games): 171
Peter was absent for a third week, so we had to take a vacant instead of his blind. Ed had a 208 second game, and that produced the only two points we won.
Paris Cook fires 817 set in TNBA league
Congrats to Paris Cook, who put together 277-264-276 for a personal high 817 series tonight in the TNBA league. 🙂
Brian Egan posts 300/813 in Patriots league
Shout-out to Brian Egan, who posted 279-300-234 for an 813 series last night in the Patriots league. 🙂
Ethan Paquette bowls 299 in junior travel league at Westgate
I promised more coverage of the junior travel league this season, and I can report this week that Auburn bowler Ethan Paquette had a 299 game in the league last Sunday at Westgate Lanes. Nice bowling! 🙂
Roland Sandefur tosses 804 in Westgate Mixed
I’m always happy to post about a bowler’s first 300 or 800, and last night, it was Roland Sandefur’s turn for one of those, as he posted 289-279-236 for an 804 set, which was his first 800 series. Nice bowling! 🙂
Oct. 25 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame
Not quite what I had in mind to bounce back from Sunday night, but I was at least reasonably happy with my third game, which had a late double to cover one open frame. It was also a better night on my 10 pin, missing only one out of four.
Result: 164-139-195=498
Average (21 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 168
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 502
Composite average (42 games): 172
Ralph and Brian had good first games for the only game we won tonight.
“Mr. 900” leads Westgate trio to Bay State Open title
As noted in the Facebook post above, a Westgate Lanes trio consisting of Paris Cook, “Mr. 900” Hakim Emmanuel, and “Tom Tom” Hedding defeated Charlie Unthank, Bill Sheehey, and Tommy Pelham, 437-425, in a two-game, Baker format final match to win last Saturday’s Bay State Open event at East Providence Lanes. The post also noted that they bowled a Baker 300 game in their semifinal match.
The Bay State Open uploaded the final match to Facebook, and it is embedded below:
Congrats guys! 🙂
Clay E. Hill shoots 290 in Patriots league
This was a familiar situation last season: I got a late score when the Patriots league standings were updated, and the late score this time was a 290 game by Clay E. Hill. Good job! 🙂
2017-18 Week 7 league standings update
Updating my league standings; I reserve the right to add the Sunday Niters update later:
- Brunswick Mixed: After winning four points from Spare Us, Let’s Mix ‘Em Up is in 2nd place, a point behind Stuck With Us for the lead, with Dawg Pound two points behind the lead in 3rd, Creeden’s Mustangs 3.5 points behind in 4th, and 5 Spares four points behind in 5th. Livin on a Spare will be our opponents tomorrow night, with a position round looming next week.
- Sunday Niters: After losing all eight points to Ball Busterz (and I failed to mention it was a position round previously), The 3 Stooges are six points behind that team in 4th, with Ten Is Enough and Here For Beer tied for 2nd, four points behind the lead. We Don’t Give A Split are this week’s opponents.
Danny Khuu throws first Coke league 300
With the Coke Classic league returning to more challenging lane conditions, I’ve had nothing of note to report from that league. That changed last night when Danny Khuu bowled what I thought was his first 300 game in the league. As usual for the Coke league, I got video of it, which is below:
Nice going, Khuu! 🙂
Oct. 22 Sunday Niters recap
My Week 7 bowling, frame-by-frame
I was just never really comfortable tonight. My usual line wasn’t holding pocket, and I tried just about everything I knew with little success. I knew a correction was coming, but I wasn’t expecting to fail to break 400.
Result: 132-125-129=386
Average (21 games): 178
Average for last 9 games: 174
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 558
Composite average (39 games): 172
We were once again missing Peter, but, this time, we lost all eight on a night where just about everyone struggled.
Stephen Major records first adult 300 in Patriots league
Tonight at Westgate, Stephen Major, subbing in the Patriots league, recorded his 7th 300 game, but first as an adult bowler. Congrats! 🙂
Dave Kullas posts 300/300/847 in Hyannis
One of the regular members of the Cape team in the Coke league, Dave Kullas, put up a monster 300-247-300 effort for an 847 set tonight in the David Smith Memorial Classic league in Hyannis. It was nearly the house record, which Kullas also holds with an 859 series.
Nice bowling! 🙂
Shawn Hagan tosses 300 in Malden
And I got word from Coke league bowler Shawn Hagan about his 300 game last night in the Trios + 1 league at Town Line in Malden. Very nice! 🙂
Sean Richard throws 826 set in Westgate Mixed
It just never gets old posting about “$eany Ka$h”, who, last night, posted a 279-268-279 effort for an 826 set in the Westgate Mixed league. WTG! 🙂
Oct. 18 Brunswick Mixed recap
My team got good news prior to bowling tonight in the addition of a fifth member, Ralph Marple III, the son of the Ralph Marple who was my first summer league teammate. Ralph the younger has been on a few teams in Brunswick Mixed, but missed the first part of the season due to surgery. This Ralph can bowl a bit, as well, so my team is happy to have him.
My Week 7 bowling, frame-by-frame
I was finally back in the 500s in this league, though I sort of wanted my second game back. Along with adding Ralph, we made a lineup change, putting me in the lead-off spot, where I have some comfort from being in that position on my Sunday night team, and Brian took over our anchor spot. This marks the first time I haven’t been my team’s anchor in Brunswick Mixed, but I feel the lineup change helped me tonight.
Result: 192-148-190=530
Average (18 games): 167
Average for last 9 games: 168
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 520
Composite average (36 games): 176
Four out of five of us were over 500, with Tom having the high game of our group (233). Team once again won all four, and we were told before leaving that we took over 2nd place.
George Boudreau fires 826 set in Hyannis
George Boudreau, who has been subbing on the Cape team in the Coke league for a couple of nights so far this season, tonight put together games of 268, 279, and 279 for an 826 set while subbing in the Tuesday Night Mixed league at Ryan Family Amusements in Hyannis. Nice going! 🙂
