AJ Voisine bowls first 300, Dan Robinson 299 in Brockton City Tournament

AJ “Big Country” Voisine picked a great spot to bowl his first ever perfect game, doing so to start his team event today in the city tournament. Sean Richard got video of AJ’s last strike, which I’ve uploaded to YouTube and post below.

Also, Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Dan Robinson came close to a 300 himself earlier in the day in the singles event, but had to settle for a 299.

Nice bowling guys! ๐Ÿ™‚

Jan. 31 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 21 bowling, frame-by-frameย (Linked to BowlSK)

I really didn’t know what to expect from my bowling after covering city tournament all day, but I did put up a decent game to start. I also threw a couple of beautiful shots on the same lane in the 6th and 8th frames of the second game, but I was unable to repeat those either on the other lane or the rest of the night.

Result: 170-152-130=452
Average (60 games): 165
Average for last 9 games: 161
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 543

Composite average (123 games): 167

We ended up undermanned with Lee nursing an ankle sprain, but Rachel threw two of her best games to start and ended up with a 437 (71 pins over average). Team took all eight, with the third game won by a single pin when I got just enough filling a spare.

I will note the next week’s opponents in my usual standings update, but this league does not bowl on Super Bowl Sunday, so I will be bowling in this league again in two weeks.

Jan. 30 Brunswick Mixed standings update

After winning two points from Jorge’s Hoe’s, Seven Deadly Pins are in a tie for 4th place with Steak and Lettuce, two points behind Lost Empire 2, who are a point ahead of Lickety Splits and 4 BAGA + 1. Three teams are tied for 6th, three behind the leaders.

Bowling Stones will be next week’s opponents.

Individually, I had the high scratch game and series, as well as high handicap game, in the men’s “C” division last week, and Si had the high scratch series in men’s “D”.

Chris Carter, Bill Briggs, Jon Hester bowl 300s in Brockton city tournament

Day 1 of the Brockton city tournament at Westgate Lanes didn’t see a huge scoring pace until the team event, when Chris Carter, Bill Briggs, and Jon Hester had 300 games in the first, second, and third games, respectively. Chris Carter, bowling out of North Bowl, is no stranger to success at Westgate, as he won the 2011 Brockton Bowling Association Bowler of the Year tournament here. I’d also like to specially acknowledge Bill Briggs at this time for his strong support of my social media effort, both here and on behalf of the association on our Facebook page.

Great bowling guys! ๐Ÿ™‚

EDIT: Zach Thompson got a video of Jon Hester’s last strike, and, with Zach’s permission, it’s below. ๐Ÿ™‚

Rob Young bowls third 300 of year, Ralph Dahlgren 299 in Patriots league

The Patriots league has been relatively quiet, but I can report on a couple of scores tonight, the big one coming in the form of the third 300 game of the year by Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Rob Young; all of his perfect games this season have been in the Patriots league. Ralph Dahlgren didn’t quite get there himself, but he managed to add a 299 game to the mix tonight, as well.

Great bowling, guys! ๐Ÿ™‚

Jan. 27 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 21 bowling, frame-by-frameย (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

It was one of those nights when all of my score was in one game, but that one game happened to be my high in the league for the season to date. The first game was also the only game in which I strung strikes, with a double and a four-bagger in it.

Result: 235-155-146=536
Average (63 games): 169
Average for last 9 games: 171
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 554

Composite average (120 games): 167

I got help from Donald and Si in the first game, which we won by 211 pins, but then failed to win another game, meaning a 2-2 split of the points.

Jan. 26 Sunday Niters standings update

After winning all eight from Three Turkeys, Pin Pals moved up to a tie with Macs for 13th, 16 points behind Adam & Steve, who are two points ahead of Suzy’s Crew, four ahead of The Minions 2, and six ahead of The 3 Stooges and OSIMAS. Split Happens will be Sunday night’s opponents, with a position round coming up next week.

Individually, Lee had the high game of the week, but not the high series, as Harry Thibeault edged him out for that with a 764.

Winter 2016 Week 2 virtual league results

Despite two of the members of Little Lebowski going 30-clean last week, Mad Blogger & Co. still won four points, and we’ve stayed in 5th position. We’re eight points behind Pay The Lineage, who have yet to lose a point; Pay The Lineage leads Little Lebowski by four points, and House Hacks and Team 2 by five points.

Jan. 24 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 20 bowling, frame-by-frameย (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Finally hit a 500 again on Sunday night, and did it mostly by grinding out single pins, as I left a lot of them, particularly in the second game, but made most of them. Three strikes and only one open (on a split) was the difference in the third game.

Result: 172-159-181=512
Average (57 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 159
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 557

Composite average (117 games): 167

Lee had a great night, getting the front nine to start it before a 10 pin bit him and he finished out for a 279. He ended with a 761 after games of 224 and 258, with his only open a 10 pin miss. Team won all eight handily.

Jim Ferguson & Mark Zimmerman win NAT doubles at Westgate

Jan. 2016 NAT doubles finalists
Finalists of Jan. 10 NAT doubles event at Westgate Lanes (L-R): Champions Mark Zimmerman & Jim Ferguson, runners-up Danny Khuu & AJ Voisine (Photo courtesy of NAT)

The Northeast Amateur Tournament reported onย their Facebook pageย that Mark Zimmerman & Jim Ferguson, the latter of whom is a Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer, were the winners of the doubles event held on Jan. 10 at Westgate Lanes after defeating AJ Voisine & Danny Khuu, 1039-1010 (with handicap), in the two-game final match (the final match score was reported in the newsletter on their website, which was unavailable at press time). Other Westgate Lanes cashers were Chuck Paige II & Matt Richard, Mike Major & Sean Richard, Mike Peirce & Dan Robinson, Tim Major & Paris Cook, Tina Gannon & Bill Briggs, and Kevin Thibeault (with James Jordan).

During qualifying, Shawn Hartigan threw a 300 game, his second at Westgate in as many calendar years (having also thrown one during the state tournament last spring), and Jim Ferguson, during the head-to-head finals had the last 11 strikes for a 279 game after opening the game with a split.

Congrats to all! ๐Ÿ™‚

Jan. 20 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 20 bowling, frame-by-frameย (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

The pocket was such a mystery to me tonight that I left more 5 pins than 10 pins. The times I did double came when I went fairly straight with slow speed, but I was inconsistent with the latter.

Result: 140-155-164=459
Average (60 games): 168
Average for last 9 games: 173
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 517

Composite average (114 games): 167

Both Jeff and Barry (and more particularly the latter) woke up after the first game, with Barry following a 130 with a 200 and a 235 to be high man on the pair. Team won three points.

Jan. 17 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 19 bowling, frame-by-frameย (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

If six pins under average can be considered turning a corner, given the way I’ve been bowling on Sunday nights recently, I’ll take it. I was actually looking a little bit good for 500 until five straight open frames showed up to ruin it in the third game, but I saved what score I had in the game with a double 9th and first in the 10th. The 190 second game was also my best in six weeks.

Result: 148-190-151=489
Average (54 games): 165
Average for last 9 games: 149
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 511

Composite average (111 games): 167

Team needed my strike in the 10th second game for the points, but we got flat outbowled in the third game. Opponents also won the first game. All three of Rachel’s games were over her average tonight.

Jan. 17 Brunswick Mixed standings update

With the three points from Spare No Expense, Seven Deadly Pins is tied for second out of the gate with six other teams, with only Has Beens (our opponents Wednesday night) ahead of us in pinfall in the tie. Jorge’s Hoe’s was the only team that won all four points to start the second half.

Update: Jeff’s pre-bowl was good enough for high scratch game and series last week in the men’s “D” division.

Winter 2016 virtual league ramp-up

The new virtual league began this week, and it’s only a four-man team for this go-around. My teammates are Fin09, Gohokies, and TimL. Fin09 is one of the most accomplished individual bowlers in the league (in terms of honor scores), and TimL happens to be a former Classified division national champion, so it should be interesting “bowling” with those two. Team name is the one I had in mind when I made my summer league return, Mad Blogger & Co.
