Posting up a notable score out of my league before getting to standings: Bobby Geddes had a 278 game last week, as noted in the high scores. WTG! 🎳🔥
Mo Wideman posts 279, Johnie Funches 278 in Rhythm & Bowling
This is a little lagged due to being a Sunday league: Last Sunday (Nov. 15), in the Rhythm & Bowling league, Mo Wideman’s 279 and Johnie Funches’ 279 games were the notable games. WTG! 🎳👍
Kenny Lei shoots 290, Devon McGregor 278/753 in TNBA league
The TNBA league’s notable scores Friday night included Kenny Lei’s 290 game, as well as Devon McGregor, who went 278-247-228 for a 753 set. Both can be viewed on the recap sheet (Kenny Lei on Lane 47, Game 2, Devon McGregor on Lane 51).
Good bowling! 🎳👍
Jon Hester slams 300, James Scales 298 in Patriots league
I’ll round up the other notable Patriots league scores last week below, but the ones worthy to lead off with are Jon Hester’s 300, which happened in back-to-back weeks for him, and a 298 for James Scales. Here are the rest, starting with the games:
- Mike Major 279
- Aaron Major 278
- Ethan Rosenberg 278
- Mike Trent Jr. 270
And the series (recap sheets are linked on the lane numbers):
Nice bowling, everyone! 🎳🔥
Danny Khuu wins NAT Over/Under doubles at Westgate

Per the post on Facebook (must be logged in to view), the Northeast Amateur Tournament reported Westgate bowler Danny Khuu, along with partner David Gordon, as the winners of the Over/Under (45) doubles event last Sunday at Westgate Lanes, taking the final match 450-416 (with handicap) over father & son Jeff & Jim Handy. The NAT reported 41 teams entered the event.
Jon Hester, Sean Richard win titles in Ocean State Championship Tournament
Westgate bowlers were big factors in the inaugural Ocean State Championship Tournament at Lang’s Bowlarama in Cranston, RI, which was originally scheduled as a summer event, but was pushed back to the fall due to the COVID pandemic. Jon Hester made the most noise, taking the all-events title as well as doubles with Zach Thompson, while Sean Richard teamed with Bob DiMuccio Sr. & Jr. and Jayme Silva Sr. in capturing the team event. The Facebook album above has photos of all of the winners, with full standings available at TournamentBowl.com.
Congrats guys! 🎳🔥
Nov. 18 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 10 bowling, frame-by-frame
My stint with my new team couldn’t have started better, as it was a strike as the lead-off bowler, and things were fairly promising after two, but I left more “ugly” leaves in the third game than I have recently, and couldn’t finish my 500. Some of that was also on me, however, as I’d missed a few of the more routine leaves, as well.
Result: 156-196-137=489
Average (27 games): 167
Average for last 9 games: 169
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 520
My individual bowling aside, it’s always a good night when the team wins three of four, and that’s what happened, because Kevin had a good night. The second game could have easily been won, as well.
A fresh start (includes 2020-21 Brunswick Mixed Week 9 standings update)
I’d mentioned previously that I’d be filling a vacancy on another team in my league after Donna had to withdraw from the league, and that the team is one of the longer standing teams in the league. That team is Creeden’s Mustangs, which have been in the league in some form at least since I’ve been in it (and longer, in fact). The team is currently comprised of (in lineup order) Lisa Davis, Randi Sullivan, and Kevin Stiger, the latter whom I’ve mentioned here occasionally for scores.
A long-standing tradition with this team is that all of the members of the team change their names on the scorer before bowling to something like a nickname (you have to kind of think like the tradition at Bayside Bowl in Portland, ME for this). Lisa is typically “Newbie,” Randi is “Mo,” and Kevin is “Bud.” Where one of my newer projects has to do with a Star Wars space combat simulation game (and really a classic series of such games before the one that just launched that I was involved with before I returned to bowling, as well), I’ve chosen to take on “Ace” as my Mustangs name. Hopefully, the vibe carries into my bowling as well as the new project.
Currently, Creeden’s Mustangs stands tied for 8th with Spare Us, 10.5 points behind Last Empire, who lead 10th Frame Magic (Creeden’s Mustangs’ opponents tonight) and Sweet Rolls by a half-point and 4 On 9 Man by a point and a half.
Nov. 12 Patriots league scoring addendum
The scoring pace last week in the Patriots league was very high, and I didn’t get to all of the scores when I posted about the high honors Sunday, but I will list the others, starting with the games:
- AJ Voisine 278
- Ray Fischer 278
- Cody Litchfield 275
- Ethan Rosenberg 274
And the series (links will be to the recaps on the lanes):
Nice bowling everyone! 🎳🔥
Chris Zalewski rolls 276 in Brunswick Mixed
The big game in my league last week was turned in by Chris Zalewski, with a 276, per the week’s high scores. Nice bowling! 🎳😁
Sean Richard victorious in Bay State Open Over/Under Doubles in Lowell
Per the Facebook post above, BPUSBC Hall of Famer Sean Richard, along with partner Bob DiMuccio Jr., were the winners of the Bay State Open’s Over/Under (45) doubles event on Nov. 7 at Bowlero Lowell, defeating Jon Hester & Kevin Kelliher 434-407 (with handicap) in the two-game Baker format final match. The title bumped his BSO leading total to seven. Congrats Ka$h! 🎳🔥
The event was also the BSO’s last for the foreseeable future, as they have decided to suspend operations until the pandemic has reached a point where it is better managed. What metrics that involved, however, were not stated.
Stan Lewis posts 277/814, AJ Voisine, Jon Hester 300 in Patriots league
The highest scoring Patriots league session of the season to date on Thursday night saw Stan Lewis post 277-276-261 for an 814 set, while AJ Voisine and Jon “Hoss” Hester both added 300 games to the mix. I felt it appropriate to post on the association’s Instagram, where Stan’s photo and both videos could appear in the same album and could be properly credited.
Nice bowling, guys! 🎳😎
Angelino Castro shoots 160 in youth leagues
I’m late getting to this, but it’s the first youth score of note: Angelino Castro’s 160 game on Halloween wouldn’t seem like much, but, given that he only has a 98 average on the sheet, that’s pretty impressive. Keep it up, kid! 😎
And, so nobody thinks I’m pulling the scores out of the air, I’ll include a photo of the high scores that week (I couldn’t get the averages in the same photo without making both too small to read.):

Nov. 11 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame
This was a little more solid effort than I’ve had this season, so far. I did miss a couple of 10 pins, but I figured out that I was just missing a little right and made the adjustment to make the rest of them from that point. I put strikes together on a couple of occasions for the two 18X games.
Result: 182-159-187=528
Average (24 games): 167
Average for last 9 games: 172
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 505
I did lose my only teammate, Donna, for good, due to COVID concerns. The upshot is that there is one team in the league with a vacancy, so I will be joining them next week (I couldn’t this week because it was a position round.). I’ll have more in the coming week, but the vacancy is with one of the league’s most established teams.
2020-21 Brunswick Mixed Week 8 standings update
Interactive standings after Week 8
I ended up losing the first game, anyway, so Spares remains in 13th place, now 19 points behind 4 On 9 Man, who lead Sweet Rolls by a point, Last Empire by a point and a half, and Bbob and 10th Frame Magic by two points. It’s a position round this week, so we bowl against the vacant.
Aaron Major rolls 280 in Patriots league
Aaron Major, who posts good games at Westgate routinely, it seems, had another one last week in the Patriots league with a 280, noted in the league’s high scores. Nice bowling, Aaron! 🎳😎
Jake Tobin throws 278 in Brunswick Mixed
I’ll do my standings update tomorrow, as usual, but I didn’t want to leave this out of the Tuesday high score reporting run: Jake Tobin threw a 278 Wednesday night in the Brunswick Mixed league (the only Wednesday night league at Westgate this season, as I’ve previously noted), per the week’s high scores. Good bowling, Jake! 🎳😁
“Mr. 900” tosses 279/779 in His & Hers
For the first time in my memory, “Mr. 900” Hakim Emmanuel is not bowling in the Patriots league, the league in which he placed himself in bowling immortality over five years ago. He is still bowling, however, only in the His & Hers Doubles league on Tuesday night this season. Last week, in that league, he posted a 279 high game in a 779 series, evidenced on the recap sheet (Lane 56). WTG Hakim! 🎳😎
Nov. 4 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame
With my old wrist brace showing signs of wear, I replaced it last night with a Storm C2, and it did take getting used to for spares, as you can just move the anchor out of the way to take my wrist out of the shot and just throw your normal shot. Where it did help was in the first game, as I wasn’t worried about the strap coming undone and helping me focus on staying under it, helping my carry enough to string a couple of turkeys.
Result: 208-161-143=512
Average (21 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 165
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 505
Donna was again absent, but my first game was good enough to win a point, at least.
2020-21 Brunswick Mixed Week 7 standings update
Interactive standings after Week 8
Spares are currently in 13th place, 17 points behind 4 On 9 Man, who are leading Last Empire by 2.5 points, Sweet Rolls by three points,, and Bbob and 10th Frame Magic (tonight’s opponents) by four points.
Ed Roberts shoots 289 in BBIS league
There was a great game turned in by multiple (Bristol-Plymouth & Mass. State USBC, Brockton Athletic, and NEBA, among others) Hall of Famer Ed Roberts last week in the BBIS league, with a 289, which is even more worthy of note given the nature of the lane condtion (the Beaten Path challenge condition, as reported to me by Aaron Major); evidenced in the week’s high scores, of course.
Nice bowling! 🎳😁
Oct. 28 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 7 bowling, frame-by-frame
I bowled much better last night, even though my scores didn’t necessarily show it, and that was because I was only lacking carry in the third game. My improvement later in the night was due to going back to what I was doing before the lockdown, focusing more on my finish position and shot posting, which also carried into my spare game after the missed 10, my only single-pin miss of the night.
Result: 158-173-181=512
Average (18 games): 166
Average for last 9 games: 164
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 516
With Donna again absent and none of the opponents shooting under 600, I was unable to win points.
2020-21 Brunswick Mixed Week 6 standings update
Interactive standings after Week 6
Spares are in 12th place, 13 points behind 4 On 9 Man, who are leading 10th Frame Magic by two points, Last Empire (our opponents tonight) by 2.5 points, and Bbob and Sweet Rolls by three points.
James Scales bowls 299, Leah Loftis 268 in Rhythm & Bowling
Congrats first to James Scales, who had a 299 game Sunday in the Rhythm & Bowling league. Also, nice bowling to a member of my league, Leah Loftis, with a 268 game in this league. 🎳👍😁
Taylor Sinkler shoots 251 in TNBA league
Taylor Sinkler had a nice game Friday night with a 251 in the TNBA Mixed league. Great bowling! 🎳🙂
Ethan Reyes scores 279 in Patriots league
There was one game of note in the Patriots league last week: Ethan Reyes, with a 279, per the weekly high scores. Good bowing, Ethan! 🎳😎
Kevin Kelliher tosses perfecto in Ocean State doubles at Lang’s
The Patriots league’s Kevin Kelliher, on Sunday of the penultimate weekend of the inaugural Ocean State Championship Tournament at Lang’s Bowlarama in Cranston, RI, threw his second 300 game in the doubles event. Kevin released his video to me, which he originally shared as a Facebook story, and is below:
Nice bowling, Kev! 🎳🔥
Oct. 21 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 6 bowling, frame-by-frame
A little bit of my early trouble was getting used to a new slide sole, since I had to go to a #8 slide sole tonight and I didn’t have one prior to then. Mostly, however, the shot tonight was touchy with the speed, and, except for the times I put strikes together, I either didn’t have my good speed control or threw bad shots entirely.
Result: 139-159-171=469
Average (15 games): 165
Average for last 9 games: 166
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 509
I finally got Donna back tonight, but Shawn had a good night for my opponents, in particular. His teammates backed him up well enough to take all four.
James Scales bowls 289 in Rhythm & Bowling
The Rhythm & Bowling league was late posting (I got the alert in their group just before logging in to write this), and I noted that James Scales had a 289 Sunday night, as noted in the high scores for the week. WTG! 🎳🙂
2020-21 Brunswick Mixed Week 5 standings update
Interactive standings after Week 5
Spares are currently 11th, nine points behind 4 On 9 Man, who are a half-point ahead of Last Empire, a point ahead of 10th Frame Magic and Spare Us in a tie for third, and three teams two points behind in a tie for 5th. Spares are opposed by Sweet Rolls tonight.
