Kris Voss posts 278 in Thur. Handicap Doubles

I’m able to mention Kris Voss today, because she had a 278 game last week in the Thursday doubles league. Fact about Kris Voss: She is the first woman to bowl a 300 in certified competition at Westgate (Sue Sutter had the first, but that was in the unsanctioned Sunday PM Couples league before she joined my Sunday league.).

Nice bowling! 🙂

Apr. 11 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 31 bowling, frame-by-frame

I’ve been feeling much better, but my bowling scores didn’t necessarily show it until last night, which was on the pair I’ve been killing this season. The first game was rougher, but I was clean the rest of the night after making a ball change in the 9th frame of that game. Also, none of the open frames in the first game were on single pins.

Result: 174-206-248=628
Average (87 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 184
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 631

Composite average (162 games): 180

Si was absent, and Tom was up and down, but did shoot 265 first game to help us win the point. My third game allowed us to win that point and total (by 75 pins).

2017-18 Week 31 league standings update

My standings update, after Week 31:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After splitting 2-2 with Striking Gentlemen, Let’s Mix Em Up is in a tie for 7th place with Dawg Pound and Gutt Er Done, nine points behind Creeden’s Mustangs, who lead Sweet Rolls by 1.5 points, Minds in the Gutter (tomorrow night’s opponents) by three points, and Last Empire by four points. Tom had high scratch and handicap game last week in men’s “C”, and Si swept the high scores in men’s “D”.
  • Sunday Niters: After failing to win points against Broads With Balls, The Three Stooges are in 6th place, 21 points behind Broads With Balls, who lead Ten Is Enough (Sunday night’s opponents) by eight points, Suzy’s Crew by 15 points, and We Don’t Give a Split by 16 points. Note: The league didn’t vote a prize for a league champion, so there will only be payouts by half-season and no roll-off.

Apr. 8 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 27 bowling, frame-by-frame

Carry was a major issue tonight, as I left 13 single pins, 10 of which were corner pins. I missed four of the single pins, but, on a lot of nights, I wouldn’t have had to shoot them. The second game was almost clean, despite the big split, as I slid the 6 in the vicinity of the 7.

Result: 143-177-161=481
Average (75 games): 180
Average for last 9 games: 165
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 559

Composite average (159 games): 180

Peter returned tonight, but we still lost all eight to first place.

Apr. 4 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 30 bowling, frame-by-frame

While this is a different night if I make more of my single pins, I did have a decent game in a game other than the first, and carry was more the issue in the third.

Result: 150-196-147=493
Average (84 games): 180
Average for last 9 games: 164
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 626

Composite average (156 games): 180

I didn’t remember Si shooting 500 since we started bowling together again, but he did last night with a 515, thanks to a 213 third game. We won the third game, and total came down to the other anchor getting pins off a spare, which he didn’t. Tom also chipped in a 234 third game and had a 549.

2017-18 Week 30 league standings update

The usual standings update; post will be updated with Sunday Niters when available:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After splitting 2-2 with Party of Six, Let’s Mix Em Up is now tied with that team for 8th place, nine points behind Creeden’s Mustangs, who lead Minds in the Gutter by a point, Spare Change by three points, and Sweet Rolls by 3.5 points. Striking Gentlemen are tonight’s opponents. Our 1,186 was high team handicap game, Tom swept the high scores in the men’s “C” division, and Si had high handicap game in men’s “D”.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning two points from Adam & Steve (Team 4 on Bowler Express), The 3 Stooges are tied for 4th place with Suzy’s Crew, 13 points behind Broads With Balls (Sunday night’s opponents), who lead Ten Is Enough by two points and Here For Beer by 12 points. The LeagueSecretary.com sheet wasn’t available at the time of this post, but I don’t think either Ed or I figured in the week’s high scores.

Apr. 1 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 26 bowling, frame-by-frame

This was about the same as Wednesday night, but with worse scores. I again lost steam in the third game, with splits adding to a poor spare game, in which I missed the only 10 pins that I missed.

Result: 182-169-126=477
Average (72 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next weeks AVG+1 score: 572

Composite average (153 games): 181

Peter was absent, but should return next week. Team won the first game, but lost the other two and total (by 71 pins).

My Week 29 bowling, frame-by-frame

I definitely felt better out there tonight, particularly in the first game, with my full sister, who’d never seen me as a real bowler, on hand for moral support. I maybe should have been over average tonight, but a bad third game, in which I wasn’t making spares, cost me that.

Result: 221-179-135=535
Average (81 games): 180
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 576

Composite average (150 games): 181

Kathy made a lineup change in the week I missed, with Tom and Si swapping spots, and the change seemed to help everyone, as I was the only one under average tonight. I do need to make special mention of Tom, who had 289-205-254 for a 748, with the game and series both personal highs.

As for the points, we crushed the first game (1,186 with handicap), but lost the other two by a total of just 34 pins for a 2-2 split. Series was 3,239 with handicap, and I don’t remember any of my teams with that high a total for one night.

Nathan Crouse slams 300/833, Qwadaris Rembert 300/812 in Pepsi league

Not quite back to Pepsi league yet, but two bowlers had nights of note last night, as Nathan Crouse posted 277-256-300 for an 833, and Qwadaris Rembert 235-300-277 for an 812. Some notes to come, but a couple of videos, first, starting with one Brian Gaskill provided of Nathan’s 300:

And a video Qwadaris posted on his Facebook:

And the notes:

  • Nathan’s 833 beat Jon Hester’s 824 of last season, and conditions this year are supposed to be a little tougher, though I was told they were pretty soft last night.
  • And Nathan led his team, Rick O’Shea, to a 1,061 third game and 2,950 series, both of which are over the USBC reporting threshold for team scores.

Congrats guys! 🙂

2017-18 Week 29 league standings update

Just updating one league, as the other postponed last week due to weather:

  • Sunday Niters: The Three Stooges won four points from Here for the Beer and are now in 4th place, nine points behind Broads With Balls, who lead Ten Is Enough by four points and Here For the Beer by eight points. Adam & Steve will be Sunday night’s opponents.

Dave Kullas fires 300/855 in Hyannis

Pepsi league regular Dave Kullas posted on his Facebook that he had a 276-279-300 performance for an 855 set last night in his league in Hyannis, the Dave Smith Memorial Classic. Seems he was also wearing a hat from when Dave Smith’s family owned the place, as the Ryan Family Amusements there will be closing soon.

Sorry to hear about the closing, but good bowling, anyway. 🙂

2017-18 Week 28 league standings update

The show had to go on without me, so to speak, so here’s a standings update, with the week’s results as best as I know them:

  • Brunswick Mixed: Let’s Mix Em Up won all four from Living On a Spare and are now tied for 7th with Dawg Pound and Party of Six,  nine points behind Minds In the Gutter, who lead Spare Change and Creeden’s Mustangs by a point and Sweet Rolls by a point and a half. Weather permitting, my team bowls against Party of Six tonight. Si had a 180 high game last week, sweeping scratch and handicap game and series honors in the men’s “D” division.
  • Sunday Niters: The Three Stooges (Ed bowling alone) won six points from Ball Busterz and are now in 4th place, nine points behind Ten Is Enough, who lead Broads With Balls by four points and Here For the Beer by eight points. My team is scheduled against Here For the Beer on Sunday night. Ed’s 248 and 624 earned him high score mention.

Mar. 11 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 23 bowling, frame-by-frame

I was quite out of sorts on this night, and the other league members noticed. It would turn out that I was in the throes of a health scare, but I’m still amazed I bowled as well as I did, particularly after the first game; there wasn’t more than one open frame in those two games, with a double also in both.

Result: 147-191-189=527
Average (69 games): 182
Average for last 9 games: 175
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 575

Composite average (147 games): 181

Weirdly, we only won one point, a tie in the first game.

Happy to report that I am feeling better, and hope to return to bowling activity a week from Wednesday night.

Mar. 7 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 27 bowling, frame-by-frame

It didn’t appear it was going to be my night, anyway, but I was not myself in the third game, for a reason I may or may not post later. That said, however, I did compose myself enough to throw the double in the last frame to save total for my team.

Result: 147-162-147=456
Average (78 games): 180
Average for last 9 games: 164
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 568

Composite average (144 games): 181

That game we won by enough for total was the second game. Tom had the best night of the four of us.

2017-18 Week 26 league standings update

Just one league to update, due to the Sunday postponement:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning three points from Spare Us, Let’s Mix Em Up is in a tie for 13th with The Fun Team, 11 points behind Spare Change, who lead Creeden’s Mustangs by three points, and four points over Minds in the Gutter and Gutt Er Done. Assuming no weather postponement, our opponents tomorrow night are The Fun Team, as it is a position round. Si had the high handicap series of the week in the men’s “D” division.

Mar. 5 postponement note

I forgot to post last night that, due to Westgate Lanes not having power after a late-week nor’easter, leagues, including Sunday Niters and the junior travel league, had to postpone, as well as the Brockton USBC YA honor squad tournament. My league should pick up where we left off, and other weekend activities (honor squad, travel league) are rescheduled for this coming weekend.
