Co-tournament director Gerry LaTremouille was kind enough to scan and send me a copy of the scoresheet for Richard’s Warriors (which will be in the singular in the results), which I link here. You’ll have to turn your head to view it, but a thing you’ll notice is that they wanted to rename themselves “It’s Gotta Be The Shoes” afterward, but we couldn’t change the team name without deleting their entry, so their name will officially remain Richard’s Warrior(s). It does show the individual games and totals as well as the team totals (1,215 and 1,138 for the first two games, respectively), so I’m happy to have a full record of their performance up now. 🙂

May 14 Bay State Open note
Because of a problem with the original venue, the Bay State Open’s Baker doubles tournament on June 6 has been rescheduled to Westgate Lanes, so we hope to see you then. 🙂
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 6
Mother’s Day meant the slowest day of the tournament, but some bowlers did bowl, and a couple of the “usual suspects” had honor scores: Danny Khuu, with games of 289, 279, and 254 for an 822 series, and Sean Richard with a 300 game, both in doubles during the morning squad.
The tournament’s final weekend is in the coming weekend.
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 5
Sean Richard got things going in doubles in the morning with games of 289, 276, and 256 for an 824 series, but it would be the 3:30 PM squad’s team event, which Sean was also part of, that would highlight the day:
“Richard’s Warriors”, with a lineup of Brian Gaskill, Jim Ferguson, Brian Egan, Bob Hamilton, and Sean Richard, put up a 1,309 third game, thanks in part to a 300 game from Ferguson and a 297 from Richard, which helped them post a 3,662 series, which was just one pin shy of the state tournament record by “The Winers” in the 2010 tournament at AMF Auburn Lanes. The video of Jim’s last strike is below.
Since I had the opportunity, I also took the photo below (pardon the blurred image):

Actually, I could have made it three record holders in the same photo, as Shirley Major, the former women’s state record holder, was also bowling in the squad.
Isabella & Ethan Reyes win youth tournaments at Wonder Bowl
The Mass. USBC Youth Association ran two tournaments recently at Wonder Bowl, the annual state Pepsi tournament on Apr. 11, and the spring singles tournament the following day. In the former (link is to official results), Isabella Reyes won the U10 girls division, and in the latter, Ethan Reyes won the U15 boys division (competition in the spring singles tournament was based on handicap scores).
Congrats to both. 🙂
2015 state tournament Day 4 addendum
It turned out I missed one other honor score on Sunday, that an 806 by Chris Donaghey in singles in the 9 AM squad. He had games of 279, 247, and 280. WTG! 🙂
Coke league bowlers move into top 10 at USBC Open Championships
Cambridge 2, with Coke league bowlers Brian Gaskill and Stephen Dale Jr., bowled games of 1,004, 1,084, and 1,096 for a 3,184 total to move into 6th place in Regular Team at the USBC Open Championships in El Paso, TX. The team also included New England bowlers Bruce Hall, Chris Sole, and Ryan Graywacz, who paced the team with a 715 series. The team is part of Chris Viale’s Cambridge Credit group, for which Team USA member Shannon O’Keefe bowls at the Open.
Nice bowling guys! 😀
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 4
I spoke too soon yesterday, because I did miss Chris Minor’s 300 game in singles. Today, the honor scores were provided by Shawn Hartigen in the team event with a 300 game and Al Donato in singles with a 290. Al (Coke league) is the only Westgate bowler of the three.
Just a reminder that results will be posted probably around Monday or Tuesday on the Brockton Bowling Association website.
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 3
There were no honor scores in any of the squads today, but we did have a notable presence in multiple PBA Tour title winner John “Buzzsaw” Gant, and he had a chance at 800 in his team event until a 6 pin (lefty) stood up on him in the 6th frame of the third game, finishing with a 780 series.
The association has been running raffles to raise funds, and I’ve been going into the ball raffles last weekend and this weekend, with Storm’s Crux being the raffle ball (last Saturday was the pearl version, and we also got three of the original hybrids). I led this paragraph with this in order to note that Ken Gerraughty from my league won today’s ball raffle, which he immediately had drilled and bowled a practice game with.
I’m expecting a busy day tomorrow.
Shawn Hagan throws 300 in 2015 Champlain International
Congrats to Shawn Hagan for a 300 game in the singles event of the well-known Champlain International tournament at Champlain Lanes in Shelburne, VT, outside of Burlington. It seems he loves that bowling center, as I’m told he usually is good for a 300 game in that tournament every year. WTG! 🙂
Ed Godino III throws 290 game in TNBA (with tournament note)
Congrats to Ed Godino III, who used to be in my league and whose father is still in same league, for a recent 290 game in the TNBA league. As has been mentioned, there’s been a technical problem getting standings uploaded, but we couldn’t place an exact date on this one. WTG Ed! 🙂
Deaf tournament note: Rai Doblmeier of the Tuesday scratch league let me know that he finished second to Peter Kaczmarcyk today in the Masters competition of the Eastern regional deaf tournament at Empire Lanes in Rochester, NY. Good bowling Rai! 🙂
2015 state tournament results note
I just wanted to remind everyone that results for the state tournament after the first weekend have been posted on the Brockton Bowling Association website (link is to PDF) and should be updated after every weekend. I will also post a link to the file on the association’s Facebook page when I see that they have been updated.
State tournament first Sunday addendum
I probably missed it, being away doing something else, but Jay Mantere, the NAT’s director, posted on Facebook that he converted the Big 4 (4-6-7-10) during the team event yesterday. WTG Jay! 🙂
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 2
I need to tie up a couple of loose ends from yesterday, because I missed a couple of honor scores in the singles event of the 3:30 squad yesterday. They were shot by doubles teammates, as Mike Schrems put up games of 255, 290, and 268 for an 813 series, and Troy Bouchard ended the event with a 300 game.
All of today’s honor scores were shot in the doubles event, starting with Chris Bourdon with a 300 game in the 9 AM squad. In the 3:30 squad, Brian Egan and Sean Richard started their doubles event with games of 278 and 300 respectively for a team honor game of 578.
As an aside, Matt Richard bowled the minors both days, and, while they were not quite the same game scores, he had identical 780 series in singles for the two days.
Good bowling this weekend, everyone! 🙂
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 1
The first day of state tournament began with some scores in the minor events, with Brian Gaskill putting up a 299 game in doubles, and Sean Richard throwing a 290 in singles.
As a local board member, I participated in the opening ceremony before the noon squad, with Bob Young being inducted to the state Hall of Fame posthumously for Meritorious Service, along with Jim Harger for Bowling Achievement. Hakim Emmanuel was also presented several gifts from Westgate Lanes and the local and state associations for his 900 series, along with his 300 and 900 rings.
Although the 3:30 squad later was relatively tame for scores, Brian Boghosian, the 1999 USBC Masters champion, had a flirtation with a 900 series of his own in the noon squad (team event), putting up back-to-back 300 games before ringing a 10 pin to start the third game and finishing up with a 258 for an 858 series that would have been the Westgate Lanes house record up until two months ago. Team event was also special for Ed Grossett, who picked the state tournament to throw his very first 300 game.
The tournament continues tomorrow.
State tournament side event note
Junior wants to run the no-tap shootouts during the state tournament as a side event, and the first of these will be Saturday at 6 PM following the last squad of the day in the state tournament. The jackpot for seven no-tap strikes (not natural) in a row is currently over $700.
Mike Litchfield wins NAT one-ball tournament; Tom Hedding throws perfecto
Congrats to Mike Litchfield for winning the Northeast Amateur Tournament’s special one-ball tournament today at Westgate Lanes. The concept was simple: One ball, and only one ball, of the bowler’s choice was to be used for the whole tournament, including for first ball and all spares. At the end, Mike defeated DJ Jones by a score of 500-445 (with handicap) in the two-game final match. Henry Webber, Shawn Hagan, Matt Richard, John Hayes Jr., Tom Hedding, Hakim Emmanuel, and AJ Voisine were the other Westgate bowlers cashing.
Tom Hedding also had a perfect game in the tournament, thrown using his plastic skull ball (trust me, it moves left when he throws it for a strike). Henry Webber added a 299 game, and Anthony Allen a 297. There was also a score of note thrown by a woman, that being Linda Dembro with a 280 game; the game was the second game and had the last 10 strikes, which won her the tournament’s strike jackpot worth around $700.
Congrats to all! 🙂
2015 Westgate scholarship tournament results
The results of this year’s Westgate Memorial Scholarship Tournament, held on Saturday (scores are with handicap):
Boys
- William Gerraughty 818 ($500)
- Jonathan Gerraughty 794 ($250)
- Glenn Rucker 736 ($125)
Girls
- Sarah Kendall 744 ($250)
Congrats to all of the scholarship winners. Of course, this is about the only time I list prizes won by bowlers, as I wish to demonstrate to the parents of prospective youth bowlers that they have the opportunity to win scholarship money in bowling. 🙂
Ed Roberts becomes oldest to win open NEBA title at Westgate Lanes
The New England Bowlers Association reported that Ed Roberts, by virtue of his win this weekend at Westgate Lanes, became the oldest to win a regular NEBA title, as well as having the longest span between a bowler’s first and most recent titles (51 years). The title match was a study in contrasts, as well, as he defeated 18 year old Tyler Perry 233-222 in the final match, which was the largest difference in age between two bowlers in the final match in NEBA’s history.
In the final match, Tyler had a lead on Ed until Ed started stringing strikes in the 6th frame, running six in a row until the fill in the 10th. That forced Tyler to throw a double in the 10th to win, but a 9 pin on the first shot gave Ed Roberts the title.
Aside from the Saturday qualifiers already mentioned, NEBA’s official results sheet also showed that Westgate bowlers Danny Khuu and Shawn Hagan also cashed.
Mike Berube, Scott Widmer post 300 games in March Westgate NEBA
I’ll post a full recap of the day when NEBA makes a post somewhere, but I wanted to mention that Mike Berube started the 9 AM NEBA squad today with a 300 game, followed in Game 4 by Scott Widmer. I got Widmer’s video, but, as I’m getting used to a new camcorder, I didn’t think I could use it.
Good bowling guys! 😀
Mar. 2015 NEBA Day 1 note
After the doubles tournament, there was the 6 PM NEBA squad, and scoring was at about a medium pace, with the squad cut turning out to be +83. There were three Westgate Lanes bowlers who made the squad cut: Ed Roberts, Stephen Major, and Stephen Dale Jr.; for Stephen Major, it was his first NEBA cash, and his prize will be deposited into his SMART account. Darrell Guertin, the squad leader, also had the high game of the squad with a 285.
Good bowling! 😀
Sean Richard, Danny Khuu win Bay State Open doubles
A busy tournament Saturday got started today with the Bay State Open doubles event, which Sean Richard and Danny Khuu won over AJ Voisine and Paris Cook by a score of 478-442 (with handicap). Alex Major and Hakim Emannuel were the members of the other Westgate team in the head-to-head finals.
Sean and Danny got into the head-to-head finals with some big scores, particularly in the first game of qualifying, where Sean had a 300 and Danny a 265 for a 565, a doubles game that is reportable as a team honor score. Paris Cook also had a 290 game to help his team qualify.
Great bowling, guys! 😀
March 2015 Adult/Junior official results note
After an error in the tabulation of the scores in the Senior division of last Saturday’s Adult/Junior doubles tournament was corrected, Aaron Major and Paris Cook were declared the official winners of the division with the score noted in my earlier post (1,508). Corey Marvel and Adam Johndrow’s adjusted 1,501 score was still good for second place.
Mar. 2015 Westgate SEMBA results
I had to miss the first Senior Eastern Mass. Bowlers Association event at Westgate Lanes yesterday, but Ed Roberts was kind enough to pass along results; he didn’t give scores, so I’ll post the list he gave me as is:
- Ed Roberts
- Ed Brabant Jr.
- Don Fournier
- Craig Asselin
- John Hayes Jr.
- John Awalt Jr.
Congrats to all! 😀
March 2015 NEBA note
NEBA posted on their Facebook page that Beaten Path will be the lane condition in use for next weekend’s event at Westgate Lanes.
I was hoping to be at Westgate for the SEMBA event today, but I wasn’t feeling well, so I had to back out. I hope to catch up with Ed Roberts for results.
Mar. 21 No-Tap Shootout results
And here are the results of the first No-Tap Shootout today:
- AJ Voisine 856
- Shirley Major 791
- Hakim Emmanuel 790
- Rick Fallon 787
There were 24 entries.
Junior decided to run a second shootout today, but I couldn’t stay for the second one. I will try to get the results tomorrow, however.
Hakim Emmanuel bowls 4th career 300 game in Adult/Junior tournament
I noted in my last post that there was more coming on Hakim Emmanuel, and here it is: “Mr. 900” threw his first honor score since the 900 series barely more than a month after the fact, another 300 game in the Adult/Junior doubles tournament today. The coincidences with the 900 series were inescapable, however: The 300 game came on the same pair as the 900 series and was also thrown with an Infrared Vibe, though we don’t know if it was the actual 900 ball because Hakim has two Infrared Vibes now. The 300 game was the only chance he had on 47 & 48, however, as the bowlers moved after each game in the tournament. I forgot what Hakim had in the other two games, but I think I remember seeing a 736 series in the posted standings, and will comment on this post when I can get a chance to verify it.
Congrats again Hakim! 😀
March 2015 Adult/Junior doubles results

Junior Division

Prep Division

Congrats to all, but there’s more on Hakim coming in my next post. 😉
2015 Mass. USBC Youth Association Youth Leader Doubles results
On Sunday, the Mass. USBC Youth Association conducted the annual Youth Leader Doubles tournament at Westgate Lanes, with the results having been posted here.
