Nov. 16 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 11, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Overall, this was a very frustrating night, as I never put two strikes together and missed plenty of spares. The bright spot, it seemed, was the two split conversions, one of them a tougher 5-7.

Result: 149-168-151=468
Average (33 games): 178
Average for last 9 games: 170
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 567

Composite average (63 games): 180

Barry and Jeff put up a 203 and a 190 respectively in the second game, and we won that game, holding on for total.

2016-17 Week 10 league standings update

Updating my league standings after Week 10, including the virtual league result:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning two points from Striking Gentlemen, Lane Ducks are in a tie for 4th place with Spare Us, four points behind the leading Sweet Rolls, who are a point ahead of Spear the 10 Pin and three ahead of Artie’s Angels. Minds in the Gutter are tomorrow night’s opponents, and it’s this league’s annual “Turkey Bowl” with a prize for the bowler with the most pins over average in each average division.
  • Sunday Niters: After failing to win points from Broads With Balls, The 3 Stooges are in 2nd place, 5 points behind We Found “B”, with Suzy’s Crew eight points behind the lead in 3rd and Ten Is Enough ten behind the lead in 4th. Pinknockers are Sunday night’s opponents.
  • Virtual league: 5 Kingpins won five points from Big Four, and are now a point ahead of that team in 6th, 15 points behind Big Guns, who are seven points ahead of Team 6 and eight points ahead of AmExGoGoDub.

Nov. 13 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 10 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

It was another over-average Sunday night, despite wanting my second game back. The ball change with the move in later helped me find my stride.

Result: 191-158-207=556
Average (30 games): 182
Average for last 9 games: 177
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 573

Composite average (60 games): 181

I was high on the pair, but the effort rang a bit hollow, as we lost all eight.

Nov. 12 Adult/Junior doubles results

The Adult/Junior doubles today had seven entries, so it was run as just one division. Stephen Major & Sean Richard won with a 1,428 (tournament is handicapped, but they were likely bowling scratch) and Dylan & Tim Major were second with 1,384. The bowler that struck me in the tournament today, however, was Cameron Kaestner, who had a rare conversion of the 2-8-10 split, one that, in some ways, is more difficult than the 7-10.

Good bowling everyone! 🙂

Kyle Egan bowls first 300 in youth league

Sarah Gill recently bowled her first 300 game at Westgate Lanes in the travel league, and Kyle Egan joined her as youth bowlers with their first 300 game at Westgate this year, as he had one today in the Saturday Seniors. We did get video of Kyle’s last strike on Facebook, which is shared below:

Congrats Kyle, and I hope this is the first of many for you. 🙂

Nov. 9 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 10 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

This was pretty much a repeat of last week in this league, but with a worse first game and a better second game, the latter which should be my high game in this league this season to date. I was happy that the second game was clean, but then I came undone after that.

Result: 155-226-140=521
Average (30 games): 180
Average for last 9 games: 184
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 564

Composite average (57 games): 181

We were up against a big pre-bowl, but Barry had a 226 of his own first game, and Donald was over his average in all three games; team won the first two games, but lost total in the third game.

2016 Mass. youth fall singles results

The Mass. USBC Youth Association has posted unofficial results of the annual fall singles tournament, which was held at Westgate Lanes Sunday, in the PDF file linked here. I’ll list the presumptive champions below, with their houses and final round scores (houses were found in a post in the Junior Bowling Sport Challenge’s Facebook group; scores are with handicap except for scratch division):

100 & below: Alexis Hubert (North Bowl) 746
101-120: Dennis Goulart (Kingston Ten Pin) 799
121-140: Gabriel Wilson (Hanscom Lanes) 756
141-160: Itihaas Kommanavancha (AMF Town & Country) 805
161-180: Lexia Stolakis (AMF Auburn Lanes) 735
181 & over: Nate Clarke (North Bowl) 750
Scratch: Shane Litchfield (Westgate Lanes) 712

Congrats to all of the winners, and thank you to the Mass. youth association board and the Westgate coaches (the latter for volunteering their time for the tournament).

2016-17 Week 9 league standings update

Updating my league standings after Week 9 (with the virtual league result included):

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning two points from Artie’s Angels, Lane Ducks are tied with them for 4th, two points behind Sweet Rolls, who lead Spare Us and Spear the 10 Pin by a point. Eileen On Me is 3.5 points behind the lead in 6th. Striking Gentlemen will be tomorrow night’s opponents.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning two points from We Found “B”, The 3 Stooges are a point behind that team in 2nd place, with Ten Is Enough eight points behind the lead in 3rd and Here For Beer 10 points behind in 4th. Broads With Balls are Sunday night’s opponents.
  • Virtual league: 5 Kingpins won two points from Ballslingers and are now in last place, 13 points behind the leading Big Guns, who are two points ahead of Team 6, six ahead of AmExGoGoDub, and eight points ahead of Ballslingers and Team 3.

As the “administrivia” for this post, I’ve removed the “Author’s links” sidebar link to my bracket results worksheet, as I doubted I’d get in any this season in my Wednesday night league. The worksheet will be archived on my online storage.

2016-17 Coke league second quarter shot

Junior told me last night that the 2007 World Tenpin Masters pattern will be the lane condition for the second quarter of the Coke league, which begins next week. The top view graph is linked on the pattern name, but it is a 41′ pattern w/ 21.65 mL total oil at a 5.25:1 ratio.

I’m waiting to announce the winners of the first quarter because I’m going to try to get a photo of them next week, as well.

Nov. 6 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

This was an over-average night, but could have been much more if I showed up for the third game. My problems on the right (ending) lane at the end were caused by not following through, but my shot in the 10th was better; I just couldn’t repeat it.

Result: 186-213-148=547
Average (27 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 174
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 550

Composite average (54 games): 181

If I’d bowled around my average third game, we’d have had a chance to win it, but the other team’s anchor put up a 277 that game, as it was. Team did win the second game.

Steve Dale Jr. wins MIST in Brunswick, ME

As reported in their Facebook group, Coke league bowler Steve Dale Jr. won his first Maine Invitational Scratch Tournament title today at Yankee Lanes in Brunswick, ME after defeating Mike Klosin 226-193 in the final match. The tournament was contested on this year’s Danish Trios pattern.

The MIST also records video of the final match, which will be added when it’s available.

Congrats Stevie! 🙂

Update: The final match is below.

No-Tap Shootout to have guaranteed 1st prize

I’ve hinted at changes coming to the no-tap tournament, and I can finally disclose them. The no-tap strike jackpot was determined to be too difficult to win. What Junior has decided is to get rid of the strike jackpot, and, instead, guarantee $300 for first place in these tournaments. It could be more, based on entries, but will now be at least $300. The $5 optional jackpot for a no-tap 900 series will remain, as there have been a couple of close approaches to it.

The first tournament with the $300 guarantee will be Nov. 19, so we hope to see you.

Nov. 2 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 9 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I couldn’t make it three consecutive weeks with a 600 in this league, and just barely missed my average. I missed a couple of 7 pins in the third game that would have gotten me over my average again, but other than that, I was OK with my bowling tonight.

Result: 180-203-159=542
Average (27 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 195
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 572

Composite average (51 games): 181

Si was over his average all three games, with his high game of the season, a 190, enabling us to win the third game by enough for total. The third point was there in the first game if I converted my light split, but I whiffed on it.

Al Donato, Dennis Johnson tie for Mass. state senior title

According to the unofficial results of the Mass. open state senior tournament, held this past weekend at Gardner Ten Pin, the Coke league’s Al Donato was the state champion in Class C (ages 60-64). The other state champions are below:

  • Class A (ages 70 & over): Terry Oullette
  • Class B (ages 65-69): Bruce Durwin
  • Class D (ages 55-59): Craig Clemons
  • Class E (ages 50-54): Darryl Washington

Congrats to Al, as well as the other champions. 🙂

EDIT: Rob Young alerted to me that I missed a tie for Al Donato’s division with Dennis Johnson, who is a Coke league bowler, as well. Congrats to Dennis, as well. 🙂

Nov. 1 scrapbook addition

I hadn’t thought about it until last night, but I wanted to acknowledge the pro shop’s method of noting 300 games and 800 series at Westgate, so I put a photo of the current state of the pro shop window (where the desk printouts of those go up) in the “scrapbook”.

Also, now that I have the Facebook page for this site, I thought it proper to also put this and future “scrapbook” content there. 🙂

Westgate Warriors finish 2nd in Northeast Team Relay

The Underground Bowling Association held the Northeast region’s annual Team Relay event last Saturday at Wallingford Bowl in Wallingford, CT. The format had the teams first bowling three games as a four-man team with handicap, then three games of scratch trios, two games as a doubles pair with handicap, and finally one bowler for two games scratch.

The Westgate Warriors ended up finishing second to the New England Heat, but the second place was a cash spot. The team started slow, earning only four points after shooting a 2,883 with handicap, although Jon Hester did help the cause with a 792 scratch. Trios was better, with the team of Hester (728), Hakim Emmanuel, and James Bessette (715) shooting 2,094. The momentum continued in doubles, where Stan Lewis and Hester put up a scratch 536 first game on the way to a 1,073, and Bessette finished up with 268 and 279 in singles for a 547.

WTG guys! 🙂

2016-17 Week 8 league standings update

Updating my leagues through Week 8…

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning three points from Solid 10, Lane Ducks are tied for 3rd with Artie’s Angels, two points behind Spear the 10 Pin, who hold a point lead over Sweet Rolls. Spare Us is three points behind the lead in 5th and Solid 10 3.5 behind in 6th. As this week is a position round, Artie’s Angels will be our opponents.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning two points from Adam & Steve, The 3 Stooges lead We Found “B” by three points, Ten Is Enough by 11 points, and Here For Beer by 13 points. Sunday night’s opponents will be We Found “B”.
  • Virual league: 5 Kingpins lost all seven points to Team 6 and are now in 6th place, 14 points behind Big Guns, who lead AmExGoGoDub by six points, Team 6 by seven points, and Ballslingers by 11 points.

Oct. 30 JBSC results

Sharon Evans of the Junior Bowling Sport Challenge provided me with the stepladder results of their event yesterday at Westgate Lanes, which I scanned and provide the PDF of here. In the U20 division (combined boys & girls), Tom Hankey Jr. won the final match over Hunter Kempton 215-183, and Randal Dunbar won the U15 (also combined boys & girls) division over Bradley Batbutt 175-154. Stephen Major of Westgate Lanes also finished 4th in U20 and also earned his Junior Gold spot, so his youth bowling career will end in Cleveland, OH next summer. The tournament was contested on the 2016 Junior Gold U20 girls long pattern (which was not announced before the tournament).

As an aside, this was not the only time during the weekend that Tom Hankey Jr. and Hunter Kempton tangled in a title match, as they were both in the title match in the Capital District Youth Scholarship Tour event Saturday at Broadway Lanes in Ft. Edward, NY. It was Hunter winning, and I’ve shared the match video on the Facebook page.

Oct. 30 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 8 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Tonight was frustrating overall, with an abundance of splits and washouts, and even a ball change to my IQ Tour Fusion in the third game didn’t improve matters. Result was my first Sunday night under 500 this season.

Result: 162-173-158=493
Average (24 games): 181
Average for last 9 games: 176
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 551

Composite average (48 games): 181

The team largely shared my frustration, but we did manage to win the second game.

Steve Huntress wins 2nd Brockton BA Bowler of the Year title

2016-bowler-of-the-year-finalists
2016 Bowler of the Year finalists, runner-up Brian Gaskill & champion Steve Huntress

Steve Huntress became the Brockton Bowling Association’s second two-time Bowler of the Year champion after defeating top seed Brian Gaskill 290-193 in the final match. Steve ran through the stepladder by first defeating Matt Richard 235-217, then Keith Kaestner 231-188 in the semifinal. In the final match, Brian had carry problems on the right lane while Steve took it off the sheet after a spare in the first frame.

Oct. 29 No-Tap Shootout results

With seven entries in today’s no-tap tournament, Tim Major won with an 819 and Rich Fulton was 2nd with an 809. The filing of this article under “Honor Scores” is because Tim bowled a natural 300 game in the first game today. WTG Timmy! 🙂

They’re going to do a few different things for the next no-tap tournament, and there could be information before it on the Westgate Facebook page, so keep checking there.
