Tim Major told me about it sometime ago, and only posting about it now, but he had a 295 game the other Thursday night in the Adult/Junior league, and I want to say he told me he left the “Greek Church” on his last shot. Maybe next time, Tim. 🙂

Tina Gannon wins singles championship in TNBA national tournament
As both the scratch/actual and handicap results show, Coke league bowler Tina Gannon has won the women’s singles event in the TNBA national tournament with a 785 scratch and 816 handicap score. The doubles and singles events took place at Texas Station in North Las Vegas.
I’m not sure what the prize rule is for the TNBA tournament, but she’ll likely receive the handicap prize if the prize fund percentages favor the handicap division. Still, congrats to Tina on a great effort. 🙂
Aaron Major throws 801 in Adult/Junior
Congrats to Aaron Major, with games of 268, 256, and 277 for an 801 series on the first night of the summer Adult/Junior league on Thursday night. 🙂
May 2015 NAT at Westgate Lanes
The Northeast Amateur Tournament held their season-ending tournament at Westgate Lanes today, with Jackson Getting defeating George Boudreau in the two-game final match by a score of 573-474 (with handicap). Westgate bowlers Jason Sherwood and Paris Cook both reached the semifinals, and Hakim Emmanuel, AJ Voisine, Sean Richard, and Danny Khuu were the other Westgate bowlers cashing.
During qualifying, Phil Hall had a 300 game, and Sean Richard a 290 game.
Congrats to all. 🙂
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 8
Before I wrap up the final day of the tournament, I’ll tie up a couple of loose ends from yesterday, as Jim Sicard had games of 258, 279, and 278 for an 815 series and Mike Farrar had a 300 game in the singles event of the 3:30 squad.
Today belonged to Tom Hedding, who, in the 9 AM squad, bowled games of 290, 258, and 300 for an 848 series, and because this was in his singles event, this is a new state tournament record, set just last year in Lowell by Ralph Marple. There were a couple of honor games in doubles prior to that, with Dave Chalifoux’s 300 game and Steve Travers with a 290 game.
The last squad of the tournament saw Scott Corkhum throw games of 279, 280, and 259 for an 818 series, which I believe helped him and his brother Ken into the scratch doubles lead. Rounding out the final day of the tournament, Jim Simon had a 299 game in doubles, and Chris Carter another 299 in singles.
I will post the final results link and acknowledge the champions when the results are made official.
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 7
The noon team event got the scoring going today, led by Bruce March, a 2003 inductee into the state Hall of Fame, with games of 263, 300, and 257 for an 820 series, with Dan Esdale (297) and Jim Wallace (279) having 11 in a row games. I got the video of Bruce March’s last strike for 300, which is below:
Another Hall of Famer, Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Jim Ferguson, followed up on last week’s team performance in doubles in the 3:30 squad, when he went 249, 258, and 300 for an 807 (doesn’t count for all-events, as this was a re-entry). Gary Weiner added a state tournament 300 game to his two this year in the Westgate Mixed league, and Lou Rosa also had a 290 game. I am aware of another 800 series in singles, but I don’t have the details, so that will be posted in the future.
John Hayes Jr. bowls 300 in Sportsmen league
Congrats to John Hayes Jr. for a 300 game tonight in the Sportsmen league, which was on the WTBA Sydney pattern. Paul Loberman recorded the last strike, and the video is below.
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 6
Mother’s Day meant the slowest day of the tournament, but some bowlers did bowl, and a couple of the “usual suspects” had honor scores: Danny Khuu, with games of 289, 279, and 254 for an 822 series, and Sean Richard with a 300 game, both in doubles during the morning squad.
The tournament’s final weekend is in the coming weekend.
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 5
Sean Richard got things going in doubles in the morning with games of 289, 276, and 256 for an 824 series, but it would be the 3:30 PM squad’s team event, which Sean was also part of, that would highlight the day:
“Richard’s Warriors”, with a lineup of Brian Gaskill, Jim Ferguson, Brian Egan, Bob Hamilton, and Sean Richard, put up a 1,309 third game, thanks in part to a 300 game from Ferguson and a 297 from Richard, which helped them post a 3,662 series, which was just one pin shy of the state tournament record by “The Winers” in the 2010 tournament at AMF Auburn Lanes. The video of Jim’s last strike is below.
Since I had the opportunity, I also took the photo below (pardon the blurred image):

Actually, I could have made it three record holders in the same photo, as Shirley Major, the former women’s state record holder, was also bowling in the squad.
2015 state tournament Day 4 addendum
It turned out I missed one other honor score on Sunday, that an 806 by Chris Donaghey in singles in the 9 AM squad. He had games of 279, 247, and 280. WTG! 🙂
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 4
I spoke too soon yesterday, because I did miss Chris Minor’s 300 game in singles. Today, the honor scores were provided by Shawn Hartigen in the team event with a 300 game and Al Donato in singles with a 290. Al (Coke league) is the only Westgate bowler of the three.
Just a reminder that results will be posted probably around Monday or Tuesday on the Brockton Bowling Association website.
Sean Richard bowls 802 in UBA ranking match in Wallingford
It’s been quite a run Sean Richard has been on already, and he didn’t limit himself to Westgate Lanes, as he put up games of 276, 279, and 247 for an 802 series in the first three games of a UBA ranking match against Chris Burke today at Wallingford Bowl in Connecticut. WTG! 🙂
Note: If anyone is wondering, UBA ranking matches are USBC-sanctioned.
Shawn Hagan throws 300 in 2015 Champlain International
Congrats to Shawn Hagan for a 300 game in the singles event of the well-known Champlain International tournament at Champlain Lanes in Shelburne, VT, outside of Burlington. It seems he loves that bowling center, as I’m told he usually is good for a 300 game in that tournament every year. WTG! 🙂
Ed Godino III throws 290 game in TNBA (with tournament note)
Congrats to Ed Godino III, who used to be in my league and whose father is still in same league, for a recent 290 game in the TNBA league. As has been mentioned, there’s been a technical problem getting standings uploaded, but we couldn’t place an exact date on this one. WTG Ed! 🙂
Deaf tournament note: Rai Doblmeier of the Tuesday scratch league let me know that he finished second to Peter Kaczmarcyk today in the Masters competition of the Eastern regional deaf tournament at Empire Lanes in Rochester, NY. Good bowling Rai! 🙂
Sean Richard bowls 832 in Patriots league, sets new Westgate record average
Sean Richard and Danny Khuu were separated by only 19 pins for 90 games in the Patriots league going into tonight, both needing a 727 series to break Jason Sherwood’s Westgate Lanes record average of 236.79 set two years ago, and the duel would take place on the same pair of lanes, 53 & 54, as their teams were matched for position round.
The first game would see Sean Richard run the first ten strikes before leaving a 4 pin for a 289, which, with Danny Khuu’s 266 left Sean just four pins ahead. A 7 pin miss in the 6th frame by Sean would lead to a 266 second game, while Danny posted the front 11 before leaving the 2-10 for a 298, leaving Danny ahead by 28 pins for the record.
Danny’s first three frames in the third game would prove to be his undoing, however, as he left the 4-6-10 split in the first frame and a 10 pin spare in the third frame, while Sean ran strikes until a 7 pin in the eighth frame, ending with a 277 for an 832 series, giving him the new record average of 237.70. Danny ended with a 225 game for a 789 series.
I’ve seen some amazing performances in my return, and Sean’s tonight would rank up there among them. He and Danny are friends off the lanes, but both competitive on them. It was good to see them both try to bring the best out of each other.
Congrats to you two on a good show tonight. 🙂
Bob Hamilton bowls 826 set in Westgate Mixed
Congratulations to Bob Hamilton, with games of 279, 279, and 268 for an 826 set tonight in the Westgate Mixed league. The two 279 games both had the front nine, so the potential of a bigger number was there. WTG! 🙂
Sean Richard posts 300 game in His & Hers
“$eany Ka$h” has continued hot out of the state tournament weekend, as he has posted his third perfect game in as many days tonight in the His & Hers league. WTG! 🙂
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 2
I need to tie up a couple of loose ends from yesterday, because I missed a couple of honor scores in the singles event of the 3:30 squad yesterday. They were shot by doubles teammates, as Mike Schrems put up games of 255, 290, and 268 for an 813 series, and Troy Bouchard ended the event with a 300 game.
All of today’s honor scores were shot in the doubles event, starting with Chris Bourdon with a 300 game in the 9 AM squad. In the 3:30 squad, Brian Egan and Sean Richard started their doubles event with games of 278 and 300 respectively for a team honor game of 578.
As an aside, Matt Richard bowled the minors both days, and, while they were not quite the same game scores, he had identical 780 series in singles for the two days.
Good bowling this weekend, everyone! 🙂
2015 Mass. state tournament Day 1
The first day of state tournament began with some scores in the minor events, with Brian Gaskill putting up a 299 game in doubles, and Sean Richard throwing a 290 in singles.
As a local board member, I participated in the opening ceremony before the noon squad, with Bob Young being inducted to the state Hall of Fame posthumously for Meritorious Service, along with Jim Harger for Bowling Achievement. Hakim Emmanuel was also presented several gifts from Westgate Lanes and the local and state associations for his 900 series, along with his 300 and 900 rings.
Although the 3:30 squad later was relatively tame for scores, Brian Boghosian, the 1999 USBC Masters champion, had a flirtation with a 900 series of his own in the noon squad (team event), putting up back-to-back 300 games before ringing a 10 pin to start the third game and finishing up with a 258 for an 858 series that would have been the Westgate Lanes house record up until two months ago. Team event was also special for Ed Grossett, who picked the state tournament to throw his very first 300 game.
The tournament continues tomorrow.
Ed Alfieri bowls 300, Derick Thibeault 297 in Westgate Mixed
Ed Alfieri added his name to the list of this year’s perfect game bowlers tonight in the Westgate Mixed league, but I also have to mention Derick Thibeault, who’s bowling again after some physical issues and posted his highest game since returning tonight, a 297. Good bowling to both. 🙂
Nick Grossi posts 290 game in His & Hers
This one is late because of the problems we’ve been having getting BowlerExpress updated, but I noted in the recent on-site standing sheet for the His & Hers league that Nick Grossi recently had a 290 game, and a search of the back standing sheets indicated it was bowled on Mar. 17.
Congrats Nick, and sorry this has been delayed. 🙂
Paris Cook posts 290 game in Westgate Mixed
He’s bowled as well as anyone at Westgate Lanes this year, and Paris Cook found a way for me to mention him again (albeit late), as he bowled a 290 game in the Westgate Mixed league. Good bowling! 🙂
Mike Litchfield wins NAT one-ball tournament; Tom Hedding throws perfecto
Congrats to Mike Litchfield for winning the Northeast Amateur Tournament’s special one-ball tournament today at Westgate Lanes. The concept was simple: One ball, and only one ball, of the bowler’s choice was to be used for the whole tournament, including for first ball and all spares. At the end, Mike defeated DJ Jones by a score of 500-445 (with handicap) in the two-game final match. Henry Webber, Shawn Hagan, Matt Richard, John Hayes Jr., Tom Hedding, Hakim Emmanuel, and AJ Voisine were the other Westgate bowlers cashing.
Tom Hedding also had a perfect game in the tournament, thrown using his plastic skull ball (trust me, it moves left when he throws it for a strike). Henry Webber added a 299 game, and Anthony Allen a 297. There was also a score of note thrown by a woman, that being Linda Dembro with a 280 game; the game was the second game and had the last 10 strikes, which won her the tournament’s strike jackpot worth around $700.
Congrats to all! 🙂
David Chalifoux shoots 299 in Coke league
I had a chance to watch the end of Dave Chalifoux’s third game last night, and was hoping to post about a 300 game for him, but he rang a 10 pin on the last ball and had to settle for 299. Good bowling, anyway. 🙂
Darrell Pesta records 805 set in Patriots league
The year’s multiple honor score roll grew by one the other night, as Darrell Pesta bowled games of 289, 237, and 279 for his second 800 series (805) of his career as well as his season in the Patriots league. Nice bowling! 😀
Gary Weiner posts 2nd 300 in Westgate Mixed
It was just last month that Gary Weiner had his first 300 game, and, tonight in the Westgate Mixed league, he became a multiple 300 bowler with his second perfect game. Nice bowling! 🙂
Rich Fulton posts 298 game in Westgate Mixed
This one was lost in the midst of Paris Cook’s big night last week until I saw the updated Westgate Mixed standings today, but Rich Fulton also had a 298 game in that league. Good bowling Rich! 🙂
Stephen Major bowls 300 game to end 2014-15 youth league season
Today was the last day of the youth league season, and Stephen Major ended it in fine fashion with his second 300 game of the season and third of his career. Nice bowling! 😀
Danny Khuu bowls 2nd 300 of season in Patriots league
He’s done it once already this season, and, tonight, Danny Khuu had his 2nd 300 game of his season in the Patriots league. Good bowling. 🙂
Paris Cook rolls 813 set in Westgate Mixed
He had been coming close on a couple of occasions this year, and, tonight, Paris Cook finally broke through with games of 245, 278, and 290 for his first 800 series, an 813, in the Westgate Mixed league. Great bowling, Paris! 😀
