Many bowlers need a game or two, or even a full night to get comfortable on a new lane condition. On the first night of the third quarter of the Pepsi league, on Kegel Beaten Path, all Kevin Thibeault did last night, however, was go 269-245-259 for a 773 set, a monster by that league’s standards (see recap, Lane 60). WTG Kev! 🎳🔥
Jan. 21 Patriots league scoring recap
Several bowlers were worthy of mention for performances last Thursday in the Patriots league, and I’ll start with the bowlers with notable series, first:
- Ray Fischer, 258-225-279; 762 (Recap, Lane 43)
- Aaron Major, 239-279-238; 756 (Recap, Lane 32)
- Brendan Litchfield, 279 (High Scores)
- Paris Cook, 279 (High Scores, linked above)
Nice bowling all around! 🎳😎
NEBA to return to Westgate for Brockton Bicentennial Open Nov. 6-7
This is a long video. However, as Chris Viale stated in it Thursday, NEBA will return to Westgate Lanes on the weekend of Nov. 6 & 7 for the Brockton Bicentennial Open. After Westgate wasn’t scheduled to host an event in 2020, it was my thought to try bring NEBA back for one of the Brockton bicentennial years (I’ll address it in an addendum note below.). The pandemic brought an element of uncertainty, but our proposal came together late in NEBA’s scheduling process and we are happy to have been added.
We’d originally hoped for a July date that would lead into our Hall of Fame Weekend and Mid-Summer Celebration, but the November weekend we are scheduled for also works for us, as it leads into Veterans Day, which is also important to our Bicentennial Committee. For more information about our plans for the weekend, you may follow the Downtown Brockton Museum page on Facebook, but I will also try to share any pertinent details on this website’s page, as Bill Hogan, the museum’s president, tends to like to use groups on Facebook for everything more than pages.
We look forward to having the best in my sport in New England return to my hometown this fall.
Addendum note: The City of Brockton’s official seal notes that it became “A Town” in 1821, and Brockton was then known as North Bridgewater. The Downtown Brockton Museum’s reasoning behind having a bicentennial celebration now is that many people alive now will not be alive in 2081, which will be when the bicentennial of the city’s incorporation will be celebrated, and so may not get a chance to experience a celebration of this scope.
Jan. 20 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 15 bowling, frame-by-frame
My closest approach to 600 territory in a while. 😎
The only thing disappointing about the night was that if I made either 4-7 in the 10th frame second or third game tonight, I do get the six just with fill on the spare, in all probability. However, I will take this, as I was as comfortable as I felt bowling in a while, made the right moves when I had to, and had almost no carry issues.
Result: 171-202-220=593
Average (42 games): 165
Average for last 9 games: 169
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 528
Our opponents’ second man had a good night, but the team rode my good third game to the win for that game’s point, which was what we salvaged out of the night.
2020-21 Brunswick Mixed Week standings update
Interactive league standings after Week 14
Creeden’s Mustangs are in 9th place, 15.5 points behind Last Empire, who are a half-point ahead of 10th Frame Magic, a point-and-a-half ahead of 4 On 9 Man, and 7.5 points ahead of Sweet Rolls. My team is scheduled to bowl against Motley Crew tonight, but where this is the last week before the last position round of the half, I’ll give the leaders’ schedules, as well: Last Empire vs. Spare Us, 10th Frame Magic vs. Move To Strike, 4 On 9 Man vs. BBOB, and Sweet Rolls vs. Maggie’s Warriors.
Kevin did have the overall high game (267) and series (710) in the league last week. 😁👍
Brendan Litchfield shoots 290 in His & Hers
I still like to congratulate bowlers for 11 in a row, and that was the case last night, as Brendan Litchfield had (apparently) the back 11 for a 290 in the His & Hers league last night (see the weekly high scores). Great bowling! 🎳🔥
Aaron Major tosses 289/780, Brian Egan 278 in Patriots league
There were a couple of notable scores last Thursday in the Patriots league: Aaron Major, with 258-233-289 for a 780 set (see recap, Lane 49), and Brian Egan, with a 278 game (see weekly high scores). Good bowling, you two! 🎳👍
Jan. 13 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 14 bowling, frame-by-frame
The way the night went, I might as well have titled this “Lost on the left side,” as that was where I left most of my spares and was missing most of them, as well. I was probably proud that I did pick up the one 10 pin I had all night, with the bonus being the washout conversion early in the night.
Result: 136-150-147=433
Average (39 games): 162
Average for last 9 games: 155
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 497
As bad as I was, the bottom of our order, Randi & Kevin (the latter in particular) was as good, relatively, and we did win all four.
2020-21 Brunswick Mixed Week 13 standings reset
Interactive league standings after Week 14
Creeden’s Mustangs is 10th, 18.5 points behind Last Empire, who are a point-and-a-half ahead of 10th Frame Magic, 5.5 points ahead of 4 On 9 Man, and 8.5 points ahead of BBOB. Creeden’s Mustang’s are due to bowl against Strike Machine tonight, but the weeks lost to the rollback will not be made up later in the season.
Jessica Lowe shoots 255 in TNBA league
Friday night’s return of the TNBA Mixed league saw Jessica Lowe record a 255 game, per the weekly high scores. WTG! 🎳😎
Aaron Major tosses 753 in Patriots league
Westgate’s leagues returned to action last Thursday night, with Aaron Major’s 753 set in the Patriots league being the night’s highlight, per the posted recap (Lane 33). Good bowling! 🎳👍
Oh yeah, the logo (and other changes)
Well, it’s done. In preparation for use in future projects, the website and Facebook page now have an official logo, which was my concept prepared for me by SS & Co. Media, recommended to me by former Pepsi league bowler Jeff Dawson, who uses them for his own business. The company presented four choices to me, of which I liked two of them (and actually the final one strongly), presenting them to a panel of three of the younger Westgate bowlers for their opinions.
Along with the new logo, I made a new website header and Facebook cover, and also changed the website theme again (to Independent Publisher 2). If you want insight into my thought behind the logo design, you can try my LinkedIn.
Jon Hester, Kevin Kelliher win January Reloaded event
Per the post above, Jon Hester and Kevin Kelliher, both members of Westgate’s Patriots league, along with Nikki Fletcher, won last Sunday’s Reloaded event at Town Line Luxury Lanes in Malden, defeating a team that included Westgate bowlers Jim Ferguson and Stephen Major, in the final match (no score was given). Additionally, it was noted that Westgate’s Aaron Major threw a 300 game in qualifying, and the aforementioned Stephen Major had a 299 in the match play portion of the tournament.
Nice bowling, guys! 🎳😁
Peter Cappola fires 278 in Brunswick Mixed
This one is a couple of weeks old, but, since Westgate is out of action for the time being, I thought I’d save this for a “Christmas gift”: Peter Cappola had a 278 in the Brunswick Mixed league in our last night before the rollback, noted in the week’s high scores. Nice bowling Peter! 🎳👍
Joe Bourhill throws 300 in NAT Year-End Doubles at Town Line
It almost escaped me when I was wrapping up posting, but I remembered seeing that Joe Bourhill of the Patriots league threw a 300 game Sunday at Town Line in the first round of the elimination finals of the NAT Year-End Doubles. I’m not certain who recorded the video that’s above, but it was on Joe’s timeline. WTG man! 🎳💯
Westgate Lanes closed at least three weeks due to Brockton COVID rollback
Per the post above, Westgate Lanes, due to the reopening rollback issued by executive order of Brockton mayor Robert Sullivan, will be closed for three weeks from this past Wednesday (Dec. 16) for bowling, arcade, and billiards. They will, however, be allowed to remain open for dining, but with no bar seating. Please, if you can, stop in once in a while and enjoy dinner, and even do take-out dining, if you’re able to (I think Yogi & Tim will let you do that.).
In a separate post by the Brockton Strike F/X that I shared on the Facebook page, they have reported that Westgate has allowed them to remain open while Westgate is closed for bowling, and I have pinned the share of that post to the top of my page as a reminder to do your holiday shopping for the bowlers there if you can. Happy Holidays! 🎳🎄🎅
Ethan Rosenberg slams 279 in His & Hers
And, in their last reported night (Dec. 8), Ethan Rosenberg bowled a 279 in the His & Hers league (I decided to link the high scores on the league name.). Good bowling! 🎳🙂
Ed Roberts shoots 279, 270 on consecutive weeks in BBIS league
Keith Seto throws 260 in Pepsi league
This is the first score of the season in the Pepsi league that has been noteworthy: Keith Seto put up a 260 Monday night, with Middle Road being the current lane condition. Nice bowling, Keith (and please note that he’s also in my Wednesday league). 🎳😁
Robert Tremblay fires 279, Chris Zalewski 278 in TNBA league
Continuing with last week in the TNBA league: Robert Tremblay bowled a 279 game, with Chris Zalewski not far behind him with a 278, shown in the week’s high scores. Good bowling! 🎳😎
Mike Major rolls 276/758, Mark Zimmerman 279 in Patriots league
Delayed with this last batch of scores, but here goes: Starting off with last week in the Patriots league, with Mike Major posting up 276-267-215 for a 758 (see recap, Lane 37) and Mark Zimmerman a 279 game (see week’s high games). Good shooting, guys! 🎳👍
Dec. 9 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 13 bowling frame-by-frame
This sort of felt like a missed opportunity, given how well I felt I was throwing the ball in the first game, and some of my second game struggles carried into the third game, as well. However, my late parallel move out gave me a chance to save the night if I could carry in the 10th.
Result: 185-146-167=498
Average (36 games): 164
Average for last 9 games: 155
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 519
We were facing an undermanned team, yet couldn’t win points because the bowler they had did well (Similar to me in the early season, one absent and two vacant, which is legal in this league.).
2020-21 Brunswick Mixed Week 12 standings update
Interactive standings after Week 12
Creeden’s Mustangs are in 9th place, 16.5 points behind Last Empire, who are leading 10th Frame Magic by 3.5 points, 4 On 9 Man by 5.5 points, and Sweet Rolls by 8.5 points. Move To Strike will be tonight’s opponents.
Kevin had the high scratch & handicap game in his division (men’s “B”) last week (shown in the league’s weekly high divisional scores here).
Taylor Sinkler tosses 255/703, Chris Zalewski 276 in TNBA league
Ladies first: Taylor Sinkler, last Friday night in the TNBA league, threw 245-203-255 for a 703 set, while Chris Zalewski added a 276 game. Both of these can be shown on the same LeagueSecretary.com recap (Taylor Sinkler on Lane 47, Chris Zalewski on Lane 50). Nice bowling, particularly to Taylor! 🎳👍🔥
Aaron Major throws 778, Mike Trent Sr. 277, Tom Roberson 276 in Patriots league
Recapping last week in the Patriots league, Aaron Major had a rather consistent 264-246-266 for a 778 set, shown on his recap (Lane 38), while Mike Trent Sr. turned in a 277 game and Tom Roberson a 276, shown in the week’s high scores. Good bowling, guys! 🎳😁
Dec. 2 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 12 bowling, frame-by-frame
Admittedly, I threw a few bad shots, but carry was a bit brutal tonight as well, the biggest case-in-point being the first game, when I threw two really great shots that left blower 7s, which I compounded the problem by missing. The Marvel Pearl seemed to look better than the Tropical, so I might take the latter ball in to Kevin in the shop when I get a chance.
Result: 148-167-154=469
Average (33 games): 164
Average for last 9 games: 154
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 522
Having Kevin means we’re usually good for a point, but that was all for us tonight against one of the leading teams.
2020-21 Brunswick Mixed Week 11 standings update
Interactive standings after Week 11
Creeden’s Mustangs are in 8th place, 13.5 points behind Last Empire, who are 2.5 points ahead of 10th Frame Magic and 4.5 points ahead of 4 On 9 Man (tonight’s opponents) and Sweet Rolls.
Devon McGregor rolls 279 in TNBA league
With the Patriots league off for Thanksgiving last week, it was a relatively quiet week for Westgate’s leagues. Friday night in the TNBA league, however, Devon McGregor did check in with a 279 game, per the weekly high scores. Nice bowling! 🎳😁
Nov. 25 Brunswick Mixed recap
My Week 11 bowling, frame-by-frame
This should be considered a throwaway night, although my routine spare game kept me somewhat in it for a while, because I was looking forward to something that was supposed to happen after bowling (but didn’t materialize because I got home too late for it). My good early spare game eventually deteriorated because I felt I just ran out of gas and I was just glad to be out of there at the end of the night.
Result: 142-152-135=429
Average (30 games): 164
Average for last 9 games: 160
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 496
I want to say we won the second game, but I’m writing this so late I forgot what the team points were and the results haven’t been uploaded yet.
2020-21 Brunswick Mixed Week 10 standings update
Interactive standings after Week 10
Creeden’s Mustangs are tied with Never Lucky for 8th place, 10.5 points behind Last Empire, who lead 4 On 9 Man by a half-point, 10th Frame Magic by 2.5 points, and Sweet Rolls (tonight’s opponents) by 3.5 points.
