2016-17 Week 19 league standings update

Updating my leagues after Week 19:

  • Brunswick Mixed: Lane Ducks was one of three teams winning three points in the first week of the second half, and four teams, Eileen On Me, Sweet Rolls, Minds in the Gutter, and Spear the 10 Pin, won all four to start the second half. WTF (We’re The Five) are tomorrow night’s opponents.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning two points from Here For Beer, The 3 Stooges joined Adam & Steve, Pinknockers, and Broads with Balls in a tie for second place, with Here For Beer alone in first, two points ahead. Ball Busterz are Sunday night’s opposition.
  • Virtual league: Lane Rangers (what my team named ourselves) started by winning five points (out of seven) from Team 6 (yet unnamed). Team 1 (yet unnamed) won all seven to start the league, and Team Square Balls was the other team winning five; Team 8 (unnamed) won four to start the league. Lane Rangers also tied with Team 1 for high team game of the week.

Gino Beniamino, Jon Hester shoot 300s in Coke league

I’d been a regular in-person observer of the Coke league for a while, but something happened last night that hadn’t happened since before that time (note about that to follow): Two 300 games on the same night. The first of the night was bowled by Gino Beniamino in the first game, and, thanks to Shawn Scales, I have video of the last strike (which Shawn originally posted on Snapchat):

Gino told me (and others) that this was actually his first 300 game ever.

It would take until the end of the night for Jon Hester to post the other one, which Zach Thompson got the video of and is shared here:

Hester figures in the note about last night, in that the only other time in my memory there were two 300 games on the same night in the Coke league, Jon’s teammate, Matt Yandek, had both of them as bookends in an 801 series.

Good work guys! 🙂

Jan. 15 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 17 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I will always take a night like tonight. I didn’t really have long strings of strikes, but I made most of the spares I was supposed to, missing on only one single pin on the night (a 10 pin in the third game). My third game was good enough to get my +1 for this league on the button, and it also raised my composite average.

Result: 180-192-204=576
Average (51 games): 180
Average for last 9 games: 180
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 594

Composite average (105 games): 177

Unfortunately, Peter really struggled tonight, but the team did win the third game. Ed had the only game of my teammates that was higher than one of my games (181 first game).

Tom Hedding, Nick Grossi roll 300s in Patriots league

“TomTom” Hedding is currently leading the house in average, and he’s doing everything in his power to try to stay there, as he had a 300 game last night in the Patriots league. Sean Richard’s Facebook video of “TomTom’s” last shot in the 300 game is below.

“TomTom” wasn’t the only bowler with a 300 game last night, however, as Nick Grossi also bowled his very first one. WTG to both! 🙂

2016-17 Coke league 3rd quarter lane condition

Junior has selected the Kegel Big Ben pattern as the lane condition for the 3rd quarter of the Coke league, which starts Monday night. It is a 44′ pattern with 24.7 mL total oil at a 7.33:1 ratio. The top view graph is linked on the pattern name.

As an additional note, the flyer for the Dan Hamilton Memorial Tournament has been revised a number of times, and I’ll be updating the Google Calendar event with the latest one shortly.

Update: The Coke league pattern, as posted on the bulletin board next to the pro shop (and not the one that’s in the pro shop), is actually a modified version of Big Ben, with a ratio closer to 5:1.

Jan. 11 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 19 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

The lanes were playing tighter than in recent weeks tonight, and it really took me a game to adjust, but I had two games over average after that. The good thing was I didn’t hurt myself by missing single pins.

Result: 161-176-179=516
Average (54 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 168
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 560

Composite average (102 games): 176

With Jeff pre-bowling, team took three of four, with Barry high man on the pair. Si was also over average tonight.

2016-17 Week 18 league standings update

As part of this week’s update, I’ll “introduce” my winter virtual league team.

  • Brunswick Mixed: Lane Ducks finished the first half in 9th place, 16 points behind Sweet Rolls, who finished 7.5 points ahead of Creeden’s Mustangs. We start the second half tonight vs. Spare Us.
  • Sunday Niters: As previously mentioned, The 3 Stooges won all eight from Ten Is Enough, and Ball Busterz was the only other team that won all eight to begin the second half. Here For Beer will be the opposition Sunday night.
  • Virtual league: Bwlnggd (a holdover from the fall team), champ, Kwik8, and Mikestormbowler91 are my teammates for the winter virtual league. The team has no name as of yet.

Jan. 4 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 18 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

Two decent games tonight, anyway, and if I had finished the second game better, it might have been three. Most of the spares I missed were ones I really should never have left, and my only single pin miss was a 7 (I made every 10).

Result: 185-155-188=528
Average (51 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 167
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 551

Composite average (96 games): 175

Barry was over 500, as well, but the opposing team’s woman and anchor both had good nights, with my team salvaging the third game thanks to my late string of strikes.

2016-17 Week 17 league standings update

Updating just one league, but reminding everyone about my team’s opposition for Sunday night with that league returning from the holiday break:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning four points from the dummy, Lane Ducks are in 8th place and will bowl against Has Beens tomorrow night in the position round ending the first half of the league. Sweet Rolls have already clinched the first half, being currently 6.5 points ahead of Creeden’s Mustangs with only four points available to the teams each week.
  • Sunday Niters: As I’ve posted previously, The 3 Stooges start the second half of the season Sunday night vs. Ten Is Enough.
  • Virtual league: I already know my team’s composition for the winter virtual league, which begins next week, but I will wait for next week’s update to formally post it.

2016-17 mid-season round-up

As usual on New Year’s Eve, I devote a post to the high scores (average, series, and game) for the men and women in Westgate’s leagues up to this point. I note again that high average is based on a minimum of 36 games in the league, and that youth bowlers are included with their gender, where applicable.

Men

Average: 242.6, Tom Hedding (Thursday Night Patriots, 45 games)
Series: 837, Harry Thibeault (Westgate Mixed)
Game: 300, Stan Gibbs (His & Hers), Ed Godino III (Brunswick Mixed), Sean Richard (Westgate Mixed), Dan Robinson, Tom Hedding, Brian Egan, Steve Travers, Rob Young, Jim Ferguson, Tim Woodley, Sean Richard, Chuck Paige, Carl Hanson, Danny Khuu (Thursday Night Patriots), Mike Henrikson (TNBA), Stephen Major, Kyle Egan, Aaron Major (Saturday Seniors), Paris Cook (Boston Rhythm & Bowling), Mike Carter, Hakim Emmanuel (Coke Classic)

Women

Average: 193.0, Debbie Butler (Thursday Handicap Doubles, 45 games)
Series: 682, Laura Beaudet (Brunswick Mixed)
Game: 269, Sheila Barrows-Gibbs (His & Hers), Hollis Solorzano (Brunswick Mixed)

Note: Some of the men bowled 300 games twice in the same league, particularly in the Patriots league.

Those who are interested in a particular league may look for individual standing sheets on Bowler Express and LeagueSecretary.com, which are both linked in the “Local/New England” sidebar list.

Dec. 28 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 17 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

I seem to be stuck in a rut right now with my bowling. You can definitely blame the first game on bad spare shooting, and I had a double in the other two games (lucking into the one in the third game), but splits and washouts to go along with those.

Result: 141-151-178=470
Average (48 games): 174
Average for last 9 games: 166
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 554

Composite average (93 games): 175

The third game was really the only one I “pulled my weight” for against the vacant, but Barry and Jeff had good nights to compensate, and the team won all four.

Sweet Rolls needed just two points tonight to be sure of clinching the first half, and one of their members said they won their first two games as I was headed out, so they’ve indeed won the half.

2016-17 Week 16 league standings update

Only one league to update, with the others on hiatus for the holidays:

In the Brunswick Mixed league, after failing to win points from Sweet Rolls, Lane Ducks are in 9th place, 15 points behind Sweet Rolls, who are seven points ahead of Spear the 10 Pin, 7.5 points ahead of Creeden’s Mustangs, and 8.5 points ahead of Eileen On Me. My team bowls the vacant tomorrow night, with Sweet Rolls vs. Team 12, Spear the 10 Pin vs. Spare Us, Creeden’s Mustangs vs. 5 Spares, and Eileen On Me vs. Has Beens.

Jim Ferguson bowls 300/811, Tom Hedding 805, Carl Hanson 300 in Patriots league

There was no lack of pinfall again in the Patriots league tonight, with the biggest chunk being put up by Brockton Bowling Association Hall of Famer Jim Ferguson, who had 224-287-300 for an 811, with the best part, he said, being having his brother, Steve, finally witnessing one of his.

It wasn’t all, because “TomTom” Hedding once again posted an 805, with games of 279, 247, and 279. “TomTom” is now the bowler bearing watching, as he now leads the Patriots league with a 242 average.

Finally, Carl Hanson also had a 300 game tonight. Congrats all around! 🙂

Dec. 21 Brunswick Mixed recap

My Week 16 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

An otherwise mediocre night in my return to this league after being absent last week was salved by three split conversions, including the 4-6-7-9 for the first time (and I probably would have converted the full Greek Church if the 10 was also standing), and better bowling overall in the third game.

Result: 147-162-202=511
Average (45 games): 175
Average for last 9 games: 169
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 547

Composite average (90 games): 176

Team lost all four, the third game by approaching 200 pins when the opposing second bowler posted a 198 (averaging 135).

2016-17 Week 15 league standings update

Updating my league standings after Week 15, with Sunday Niters, which will be final for the first half, to be added later. Standings are also final for the virtual league.

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning four forfeit points from Living on a Spare, Lane Ducks are in 7th place, 11 points behind Sweet Rolls, who are four points ahead of Spear the 10 Pin and five ahead of Artie’s Angels. The leaders are my team’s opponents tomorrow night.
  • Virtual league: 5 Kingpins won all seven from the vacant team, sneaking over the 50% points won line at the end and also sneaking into 4th place in the final standings, a point ahead of three teams tied for 5th. Big Guns’ final winning margin was six points over Team 6, and a member of the winning team, Fin09, also won the average crown for the 4th consecutive edition of this league.
  • Sunday Niters: After losing all eight to We Found “B”, The 3 Stooges ended the first half of the season in 4th place, with Suzy’s Crew winning the half by seven points over We Found “B”. The second half for us begins the Sunday after New Year’s Day vs. Ten Is Enough.

Dec. 18 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 15 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

My left foot was a little sore from being on my feet a lot of the day with the Brockton Bowling Association Holiday Doubles tournament going on today, but I still felt OK to bowl, and I bowled so poorly that it would have been better for me to take my blind score tonight. There were four splits in the second game and plenty of missed spares in the others.

Result: 160-129-150=439
Average (45 games): 177
Average for last 9 games: 159
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 550

Composite average (87 games): 176

Team lost all eight, with the first two games being closer than the third. Peter was the bright spot for us, with a 628.

Tom Hedding, Sean Richard lead scoring spree in Patriots league

With many of the best bowlers at Westgate bowling in the Patriots league, there will occasionally be multiple bowlers with scores to report on a given night, and tonight was one of those. “TomTom” Hedding led the way with 280-257-268 for an 805 series, and “$eany Ka$h” joined him in the 800 range with 299-255-247 for an 801. It was Tim Woodley, however, who had the only perfect 300 game of the night.

Good bowling all around, guys! 🙂

2016-17 Week 14 league standings update

Updating my leagues after Week 14; as an update isn’t available at press time, Sunday Niters will be added later:

  • Brunswick Mixed: After winning a point from Creeden’s Mustangs, Lane Ducks are in 8th place, 14 points behind the leading Sweet Rolls, who are six points ahead of Spear the 10 Pin and seven ahead of Artie’s Angels. This week is our “Christmas Bowl” week, with the same idea as the earlier “Turkey Bowl” (most over average in each average class wins a prize). We’re bowling against Livin On a Spare, but I will, unfortunately, have to miss bowling due to a family obligation. If I can swing by to at least get my paid dues current, I will, however.
  • Virtual league: 5 Kingpins won only two points from Team 3 and are still in 7th place, two points behind Big Four and three behind Ballslingers. As Big Guns are nine points ahead of Team 6 with one week left, they have officially cliinched the championship; Big Guns team members are 6_ball_man, Dylan585, Fin09, TheDemolitionMan, and trekguy.
  • Sunday Niters: After winning four points from Avengers, The 3 Stooges sit in 3rd place, seven points behind Suzy’s Crew, who are four points ahead of Ten Is Enough. We Found “B” are in 4th, nine points in back of the lead, and are our opponents for position round Sunday.

Dec. 11 Sunday Niters recap

My Week 14 bowling, frame-by-frame (Linked to BowlSK sheet)

This was not a very good night. If splits weren’t an issue, carry and missing the 10 pin were issues. I tried the IQ Tour Fusion at the end of the first game because the Tropical Breeze was laboring, but it didn’t seem to matter.

Result: 142-139-155=436
Average (42 games): 179
Average for last 9 games: 169
Next week’s AVG+1 score: 545

Composite average (84 games): 177

Team lost the first game big, but won the other two to make it close, and Ed couldn’t get the strikes he needed at the end. We really needed eight to keep pace, however, as one of the teams in first place swept their points.
